First of Two Beta Weekends Underway on PS4; Second Beta Weekend Commences August 11 to 14 in Australia and New Zealand on PS4, Xbox One and PC

All Beta Participants Receive In-Game Calling Card, and Those Who Reach Max Rank Receive Permanent Unlock Token to Use in Multiplayer at Launch, Additional Blackout Beta Launches in September Where Fans Can First Experience Black Ops 4’s All-New Battle Royale Mode. 

Aug. 4, 2018 – Beginning today, the highly-anticipated Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 Private Multiplayer Beta is live around the world, available first on the PlayStation 4. Players who pre-ordered the game at participating retailers can jump into the first weekend of multiplayer testing, now through 3am AEST , Tuesday, August 7. Private Multiplayer Beta participants will experience a sampling of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer mode, which features gritty, grounded combat, along with new levels of customisation and tactical gameplay, and a variety of new weaponry, maps and modes for the ultimate Black Ops multiplayer experience. The Private Multiplayer Beta is an important stress test of game systems at scale and serves as a critical development function offering real-time analytics and feedback prior to the final game release worldwide on October 12.

The Multiplayer Beta schedule is split into two weekends as follows:

    •  Saturday, August 11 at 3am AEST – Tuesday, August 14 at 3am AEST (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC)
    • Sunday, August 12, 3am AEST – Tuesday, August 14, 3am AEST (PC Only Open Beta)

The Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 Private Multiplayer Beta* features six maps, several game modes including the all-new Control mode, and the opportunity to play as ten different Specialists. The Beta content represents just a portion of the multiplayer content that will be available at launch October 12th. In Black Ops 4, Specialists each have their own unique weapons, equipment and playstyles. Players can be powerful alone or devastating as a team working together. The Beta also features the return of the iconic Pick 10 system, along with a series of innovations in weapon handling, combat flow and health regeneration. Players will have the opportunity to strategise with their team through tactical teamplay while discovering unique and powerful ways to combine Specialist skills and dominate their opponents.

If PlayStation 4 players are unable to join the first Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Private Multiplayer weekend they will have another opportunity to join the Private Multiplayer Beta during its second weekend of testing, as it opens to players that have pre-ordered the game at participating retailers of either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The second Private Multiplayer Beta weekend begins on Saturday, August 11 at 3am AEST , and runs through Tuesday, August 14 at 3am AEST . Additionally, PC players will have their own PC Open Beta** which will take place from 3am AEST Sunday, August 12  until 3am AEST Tuesday, August 14. Players will need a Blizzard Battle.net® account to access it, and those who pre-purchase the game through Battle.net will get a full extra day – beginning at 3am AEST on Saturday, August 11– to play with their friends and fellow community members.

Players who partake in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Private Multiplayer Beta will receive in-game rewards that will activate at the time of launch. All players will be gifted a unique, one-of-a-kind commemorative calling card to display in-game. Additionally, players who achieve total max rank during the Beta will be awarded one permanent unlock token that will unlock any item from the Create-A-Class menu at launch.

Treyarch will be actively gathering community feedback throughout both Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Private Multiplayer Beta weekends. The data gathered will be used to fine-tune gameplay balance, stress-test servers and optimise the online experience ahead of the game’s launch this October. Private Multiplayer Beta participants will have the opportunity to share their feedback and join in an active dialogue with the development team across a variety of outlets, including player surveys and online forums, with frequent Beta update posts planned from Treyach.

The Black Ops series has become the most played in Call of Duty® history as well as a cultural phenomenon around the globe. Overview

A Rite from the Stars is an old school point and click adventure game set on the fictional island of Kaikala. Kirm, a mute boy from the Makoa tribe must pass his rite of passage into manhood with the help of his guiding star Hoku and his meercat Mirk. The three will venture deep into the jungles to prove Kirm’s wisdom, courage, and spirit.

Story

Probably the most notable thing about A Rite from the Stars is the constructed Makoan language made especially for the game. All the spoken lines are in this fictional language with subtitles for your region. For the most part, the Makoan language lines up nicely with the subtitles, letting players pick up the odd word or two. A few lines feel like they were changed last minute as the speaker will say a syllable, but the subtitles will provide two or three full sentences.

The plot is serviceable, but generally quite bland. For the most part, the spirit challenge is the most interesting of the three because it has the most meat on the bones. Since the Kirm is mute, most of the dialogue involves Hoku and other characters. I think it’s handled well as Kirm still participates in conversations with gestures and facial expression.

Gameplay

A Rite from the Stars is a point and click adventure. Each of the three challenges have a main gameplay mechanic. Wisdom is the most traditional of the three, requiring players to pick up items and use them in the right spot for most puzzles. In the spirit challenge, players can switch between the physical world and the spirit world. Finally, the courage challenge pairs Kirm with his meercat Mirk who is immune to poison.

The puzzles in A Rite from the Stars has some bright points among the doldrum. The music-based puzzles are my favourites, especially the rhythm-based puzzle early in the spirit challenge. The game generally excels with the logic puzzles as long as the puzzle’s main mechanic only appears once or twice. The puzzles are creative and offer a variety of challenges to keep players on their toes. Disappointingly, there are long stretches in the courage section where the puzzles are some variant of the fruit and poison puzzle. It gets repetitive and boring, making it feel like the developers ran out of ideas part way through the game.

The puzzles that test the player’s reflexes and timing are the most frustrating due to the game’s clunky controls. The game only requires the use of the mouse, using left click to move or interact and right to trigger the challenge’s special ability. The scheme generally works well except for the timing-based puzzles in the courage section, as guiding Kirm and Mirk to the correct locations at separate areas can be unpleasantly challenging. The problem lies with the game’s painfully slow movement speeds combined with the rather small window of opportunity to successfully complete puzzles. The shooting star puzzle earns a special mention for being the worst of the timing puzzles. The hitboxes are much larger than what is displayed on screen and later portions require a good bit of waiting around for the right moment, making failure a long and frustrating trek back from the checkpoint.

Most of the game’s interactive hotspots are responsive. The vine walls in the courage section are the major exception. They have a very small hotspot that is unnecessarily fussy about responding to commands. The camera angles can be awkward at times. The angles make it difficult to navigate multi-area puzzles. Changing areas in these zones can sometimes cause Kirm to slow his casual jog down to a crawl, further exacerbating the game’s already slow pacing.

Visuals

A Rite from the Stars is a simple, but attractive looking game. The art style is very cartoony with bright colours and exaggerated characters. The spirit challenge is easily the most eye-catching part of the game with a trippy atmosphere and off the wall set pieces.

Audio

The audio experience in A Rite from the Stars is excellent. The sound effects are solid. The voice actors do a great job of delivering their lines, sounding confident and fluent in the fictional Makoan language. I enjoyed listening to the soundtrack. The music is a playful mix that takes the classic video game soundtrack and infuses it with exotic instruments.

Overall

A Rite from the Stars has an interesting presentation and a handful of solid puzzles. While the brain teasers are fun, their shine is blotted out by the frustrating timing and reflex-based puzzles. The painfully slow movement speed and the repeated use of certain puzzles makes the game feel like a demo that was stretched out until it was long enough to be sold as a $15 USD game. I believe A Rite from the Stars would have been a much stronger title if a lot of the pointless travel were cut out and the courage section was trimmed down to its base puzzles and redistributed between the other two challenges. Drop the price to compensate for the much shorter length of the game, and Risin’ Goat would have had a much more polished title.

After a confrontation with an eldritch beast from the dark depths of the sea slaughters a pirate crew, a lone survivor washes ashore. An old man proffers ominous riddles to this person, calling them the Saltborn. Seeking answers, the Saltborn arms themself and sets out across an island haunted by all manner of undead monstrosities.

Create a character, customizing everything from physical appearance to weapon choice, and explore this forgotten land either alone or with another Saltborn via local co-op. Hertfordshire, 2nd August 2018 – KOEI TECMO Europe announced today the addition of two more fighters to the DEAD OR ALIVE 6 roster, including returning antagonist Rig, as well as Diego — a fascinating and forceful new character to the DOA Universe.  Both combatants will be showcased in the first consumer playable build of DEAD OR ALIVE 6 at the Evolution Championship Series (Evo) 2018 inside the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, on the 3rd-4th August 2018.

Known as “The Uncrowned Street Hero,” Diego makes his DOA debut boasting the raw and brutal skills of a street fighter, utilising everything from headbutts to tackles in taking down opponents. This gritty fighter grew up in the back alleys of New York, earning money to support his ailing mother by competing in many street matches. Long rumoured to be the strongest fighter in his neighbourhood, he is seen by many locals as a hero as he utilises his experience brawling in confined quarters to impact fights with a set of strong-style moves.

Joining Diego is returning taekwondo master Rig, who boasts the “Kicks of Truth and Deceit.” Rig, who originally debuted in DEAD OR ALIVE 5, is a former oil platform worker whose kick-heavy style has evolved to incorporate more acrobatic manoeuvres. To kick-off their confrontation in DOA6, the formidable brawler Rig challenges Diego in a New York alley, and the two decide the time for conversation is over; it’s time to fight!

Diego and Rig join the six playable characters previously announced (Helena Douglas, Hayate, Ryu Hayabusa, Zack, Kasumi, and Jann Lee), as fans in attendance at Evo will be able to test out the latest build of the game while winning exclusive swag, including DOA6 shirts, tote bags, and lanyards.

To celebrate the reveal of this fascinating new character, KOEI TECMO Europe released a reveal trailer showcasing the iconic meeting between Diego and Rig, alongside a selection of new assets showing the Training Mode for the first time!

UFC and Bethesda Partner in Australia and New Zealand to Promote Fallout 76 and More

UFC and Bethesda announced their partnership in Australia and New Zealand. The two companies will be focusing on promoting the impending launch of Fallout 76. UFC middleweight champion and gamer Robert Whittaker will serve as the Bethesda brand ambassador in the Oceania region. He will be appearing at several Bethesda promotional events in the coming months. Whittaker will also be streaming Bethesda titles like Elder Scrolls Online on Twitch. No schedule for the events or streaming have been released yet, but we should expect dates in the coming days.

Fallout 76 is a multiplayer action RPG set in West Virginia 25 years after the nuclear war that sent humans into the vaults. All human characters in the game will be played by actual human players. Fallout 76 is scheduled to launch on November 14, 2018.
