Borderlands 3’s First Campaign Add-On Revealed, See the New Trailer Now

Borderlands 3’s First Campaign Add-On Revealed, See the New Trailer Now

Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot will launch on December 19. Story DLC, next patch, Free Weekends, and more detailed on episode three of The Borderlands Show.

Get ready to go all in, Vault Hunter. Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot has been officially revealed as the first campaign add-on for Borderlands 3, and it’s slated to launch on December 19. During episode three of The Borderlands Show, regular hosts Greg Miller and Fran Mirabella were joined by Gearbox Studio Head Randy Pitchford to delve into the details of this casino-raiding caper.

In short, Moxxi’s recruiting you to seize control of a derelict space station built by the infamous Handsome Jack back when he was still President of the Hyperion corporation. The Handsome Jackpot is quite possibly the gaudiest gambling spot in the galaxy, with neon signs, slot machines, and gold statues all over the place. It’s also crawling with multiple models of deadly Hyperion Loader Bots, as well as lunatic looters who’ve been trapped on board ever since Jack’s death. But that’s not all:

  • Explore a glitzy new galaxy destination packed with unique zones worthy of Handsome Jack’s lavish lifestyle and dirty dealings;
  • Join Moxxi’s crew of eccentric characters and pull off the ultimate casino heist in a series of thrilling campaign missions;
  • Discover hidden secrets and strange happenings in The Handsome Jackpot via fresh side missions and Crew Challenges;
  • Get a blast from Pandora’s past when you battle the Hyperion forces that outlived Handsome Jack, including never-before-seen enemies and larger-than-life bosses;
  • Perfect your Vault Hunter’s gear loadout with all-new Legendary weapons and gear;
  • Expand your collection of cosmetics with even more customization items, including Vault Hunter heads and skins, weapon trinkets, an ECHO Device skin, and new emotes.

Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot is tuned for characters who are at least level 13, but will automatically scale up so that higher-level Vault Hunters can find a challenge and appropriately powerful loot. In order to access this content, you’ll need to have unlocked Sanctuary III, your space-faring home base that you reach at the end of the campaign’s prologue. For more information on Borderlands 3’s first expansion, just click right here.

As a reminder, Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot is the first of four DLC packs in development for Borderlands 3, and is included in both the Season Pass and the Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition. If you’d like to try before you buy, you can check out Borderlands 3 for free on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for a limited time from November 21 to 24.

Though Borderlands 3’s first campaign add-on doesn’t launch until December 19, its next free content update drops imminently. Both Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite and Mayhem 4 are being introduced in this next patch, giving veteran Vault Hunters more ways to put their skills to the test.

Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite is a brand new raid-style challenge tuned for coordinated co-op parties of four max-level characters, with restricted respawning to make your opposition that much deadlier. The all-new Mayhem 4 puts a spin Mayhem Mode by removing all player penalties and instead applying just two random modifiers: one that applies a bonus to players and one that applies a bonus to enemies. It also offers its own exclusive batch of Legendary gear that will only drop while Mayhem 4 is enabled.

As discussed on today’s episode, this patch also brings all of the following changes:

  • All bosses will now have dedicated loot pools so you can more efficiently farm for coveted Legendary items;
  • Maximum Bank Space will be upgraded from 50 to 300 slots; as usual, SDUs that boost your bank size can be purchased from Marcus aboard Sanctuary III;
  • A Target Dummy wearing a very familiar mask will be installed in Sanctuary III’s shooting range so you can safely test out your weapons;
  • New Vending Machines will be deployed across multiple maps;
  • Players will notice overall UI performance improvements.

Finally, Gearbox announced Mayhem 2.0, a long-term plan to overhaul Mayhem Mode with more UI support, new Mayhem Modifiers that change gameplay more dramatically, Mayhem playlists, new rewards, and additional levels of Mayhem to work through. More information about Mayhem 2.0 will be available next year.

We’ll be showing off more of the action and adventure you can expect in Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot as we approach this add-on campaign’s December 19 launch date. We also plan to share the patch notes in full once the patch has gone live.

STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order Review

STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order

Developer: Respawn Entertainment
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox OneWindows (Reviewed)
Release Date: 15 Nov 2019
Price: $59,99USD – Available Here $89,95AUD – Available Here

Overview

Well, it finally happened. Hell has frozen over. As promised before, EA managed to deliver a game without microtransactions, day one DLC content, loot boxes, season passes and any other way to weasel out an extra dime out of a fully priced AAA game. But the skeptic in me said after the first hour of play “surely there must be a catch here”. Maybe not any of the things above, but what if I accepted in their Fallen Order EULA that they can now sell my PC? What if there is a secret ending in the game that I can unlock only after purchasing every other EA game on Origin? These assumptions went on to be more and more ludicrous even after I completed the game. You have to understand they they are a side effect from years of distrust and disappointment coming from EA and that’s just how things have always been. Until now.

Story

The story of Fallen Order is set five years after the events in Revenge of the Sith movie. We play as a young padawan Cal Kestis who is being chased by an Empire as one of the few survivors of the infamous Order 66. Cal is now hunted by a mysterious Inquisitor known as a Second Sister (trained by Darth Vader himself). After a short prologue, we connect with a band of rebels comprised of a former Jedi Master Cere Junda, Nightsister Merrin and a ship pilot Greez Dritus. Our main quest is to find a Holocron obtaining a list of force-sensitive children that might become the next Jedi masters. Of course, such valuable loot is of high interest to the Empire as well, so it’s a race to the finish line for both parties (with Holocron being the winning prize). To not make it all about the main quest, Fallen Order is also filled with plenty of side activities. Notice how I didn’t write “side quests” because, well…..there are none. Instead, you have plenty of unmarked areas to discover on your map, boxes to open, seeds from plants to find for your ship, life and force upgrades to find, enemies and objects to scan and secret bosses to find. Enough to keep you occupied for some 20 or 30 hours, depending on how much of everything you want to complete.

Gameplay

Before I even got the review code, I’ve read some previews regarding Fallen Orders and I haven’t seen two of the most important features of the game. First of all, we have a ship. Our main way of transport from one planet to another and a base of operations where we converse with other characters, tend to our cosmic garden and customize our lightsaber parts. You can also change the visuals of the ship by finding the skins for it in the containers all over the galaxy (aka the planets we get to visit). Second of all, we have glorious lightsaber combat. But not just any combat. Depending on your difficulty level, you can tweak it form just breezing through the story to the difficulty of the bastard child of the Bloodborne and Dark Souls series. On lower difficulties, the parrying window is pretty generous and enemies react way slower. Anything higher than normal difficulty will give you a run for your money. And just like in Dark Souls, parrying is a key to victory when it comes to some encounters (especially boss fights). The RPG angle in the game is in experience points from scanning objects, fighting enemies/bosses and turning that into various Jedi skills. They’re split into the three main categories; force, lightsaber, and survival. Force is reserved for “magical” stuff such as force push, slowing down time and force gripping enemies (that last one sounds like a dark side power). Lightsaber section is reserved for learning combos and deflecting blaster shots with your glowy stick while survival is reserved for improving your health and force related stats.

Visuals

Fallen Order is a game that pushes the boundaries of what Unreal Engine 4 can do. The result is a game that runs flawlessly on PC and is responsible for one of the most gorgeous collections of screenshots that I took this year. Every planet you visit has its own visual charm, from the snow caves on Ilum to the hellishly looking Dathomir and perplexingly complicated maze planet known as Zeffo. An honorable mention should go to the fantastic motion capture for all the actors in the game. Although the first Star Wars game for Respawn Entertainment, it is clearly filled with lots of love and attention to details from Cal’s chatter with his BD-1 buddy, leaving footprints while evading blaster bolts on snowy Ilum to getting lost in the gorgeous rainforest of Kashyyyk.

Audio

While the audio has some flair during boss fights and key moments in the game, it’s like the developers forgot that the rest of the game shouldn’t be silent all the time. Granted, there are some moments where mild orchestral tunes will kick in during the exploration but after you complete the game every further visit to the planets feels desolate, just like the lack of music and overall sounds (unless you want to spam the dedicated key for Cal’s chatter with BD-1). But hey, when it works it sure works like hell. Dying a couple of times while dueling with Second Sister was even more intense thanks to the fanfare of the signature Star Wars classical tunes.

Overall

Only after bringing this review to the end, I have to finally get rid of my skepticism for the game and accept that way after Star Wars: KOTOR and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, we finally got a fully-fledged and pure singleplayer game. No catch or anything, what you see is what you get. Considering that this is the first Star Wars game for the devs is making me even more optimistic about the inevitable sequel and what new stuff will it bring to the table. I say “inevitable” because even though there’s no official confirmation of the sequel as of yet, it would be a crime not to release a follow up to it in the next year. Or the next month. Even better if it’s in the next week. Unreasonable request, I know. But understand that finishing the Fallen Order is like getting accustomed to binge-watching TV shows and now a new show came out in a weekly format. The pilot episode is great, it’s all you ever hoped to be but the next episode is a week away and that’s like a small torture. So go get the Fallen Order, enjoy it just like I did and suffer with me together waiting for a sequel.

Gorgeous FPS Bright Memory Opens Fire with New Features, Localizations in Early Access

Gorgeous FPS Bright Memory Opens Fire with New Features, Localizations in Early Access

 Full Game, Bright Memory Infinite, Storms PC in Q4 2020, Consoles TBA

TOKYO – 20 Nov. 2019 – Bright Memory, a high-octane, visually-stunning first-person shooter made by a single developer at FYQD Studio and published by PLAYISM, receives an Early Access update today on PC adding new graphics options, voice-overs, and other improvements.

The full game, titled Bright Memory: Infinite, will explode onto Steam in Q4 2020 with console versions to follow. Owners of the Early Access version of Bright Memory will receive the full PC version, Bright Memory: Infinite, at no additional cost upon release.

Until then, Steam Early Access players can enjoy a variety of new visual options, including 90, 100, and 100-degree field-of-view options, chromatic aberration, and ultrawide support. Controller rumble support is now implemented and the English and Japanese localizations have been fully revamped with dubbed voice-overs featuring talent such as Ishikawa Yui, who portrayed 2b in Nier Automata and Mikasa in Attack on Titan.

Lay waste to enemies with a mix of gunfire and fast-paced swordplay. Dodge attacks with a smooth dash, then quickly dish out damage, juggling foes to keep them off-balanced and racking up massive combos. Unleash a powerful pulse ability to obliterate barriers and extinguish fires, then knock enemies into the air, making them vulnerable to swift melee strikes.

In the year 2020, a mighty material is discovered capable of reviving the dead. The private military company SAI will stop at nothing to claim this powerful new substance for themselves, and infiltrate the base in which it is stored. When defending the compound, Special Operative Shelia accidentally activates the teleporter SAI used to penetrate the fort, warping her and the SAI to a continent floating over the north pole, where due to the substance revived creatures once assumed to be of myth, such as dragons and demons, are resurrected alongside humans.

Bright Memory is made by a solo developer based out of Guangxi, China. Inspired by AAA first-person shooters and combo-driven action adventures, he has used ray-tracing and other techniques to create a breathtaking and realistic visual aesthetic rivaling the work of larger teams.

“Playing AAA shooters inspired me to make games, and I aspire to create an experience on par with my favorite titles in quality and polish,” said Zeng, developer, FYQD Studio. “The visuals may be the first thing to catch your attention, but it’s the tight, visceral gameplay wrapped in a fusion of classical myths with futuristic technology that will keep you playing.”

The new Bright Memory updatewill be available on Steam Early Access in Japanese, English and Simplified Chinese at no cost for current players. New players can join the fray at a sale price of $4.68 USD.

Former Directors of Arkane Studios Announce New Independent Game Studio, WolfEye Studios

Former Directors of Arkane Studios Announce New Independent Game Studio, WolfEye Studios

World-class creatives come together to create a brand new, globally distributed studio

Nov. 20th, 2019 – THE BEYOND – Twenty years after the creation of Arkane Studios, former President and Creative Director, Raphael Colantonio and former Executive Producer, Julien Roby, announce WolfEye Studios.

As a fully distributed team, WolfEye Studios aims to create games in which players live their own adventures in rich simulated worlds that respond to actions and decisions in ways that are unique to each playthrough. Today, the studio released a teaser image for its first title, which will be announced at The Game Awards in December.

Colantonio’s nearly 20-year long career as the founder and creative director at Arkane Studios paved the way for some of the game industry’s most revered and groundbreaking titles. Roby has a deep bench of experience in the industry as well, having produced some legendary titles like Dishonored and Arx Fatalis and having worked alongside Colantonio for more than 12 years. After departing from Arkane, the duo spent time away from any one particular project before coming back together to form WolfEye.

“After taking some time off, and consulting for a variety of video games companies, I’m ready for a new adventure” added Colantonio, President and Creative Director at WolfEye. “The AAA market is risk-averse and innovation suffers from it. As a Game Designer, I’ve been wanting to try new ideas and approaches, and I believe independent games are in the best space to do so.”

“This is an incredible opportunity to work together again with Raf, being able to build the kind of unique and deep games we love to play,” said Roby, CEO and Executive Producer at WolfEye. “The decision to work as a distributed team around the world has meant we’re able to find some of the best talents in the industry to help craft our vision.”

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers Review

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers

Developer: Nippon Ichi Software
Publisher: NIS America
Platforms: PlayStation 4 (Reviewed), Nintendo Switch
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $39.99 USD – Available Here $69.95 AUD – Available Here

Overview

When it comes to Nippon Ichi Software, you never quite know exactly what type of game they will be working on next. For many years the developer has dabbled with many uniquely stylized games with even stranger gameplay styles. Even then, when the company announced Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers, many were quite surprised as the game looked outside of the company’s wheelhouse. Along those same lines, many veterans of RPGs have had years of experience examining all different kinds of mechanics so with Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers taking a more simplistic approach, is this one worth checking out?

Story

The town of Clocknee may not be the largest in the world but that won’t stop them from celebrating the new millennium with the best of them. One of these residents happens to be the young girl Sherry whose spunky attitude rarely lets her feel down, except when it comes to her father. While she has a great mother and her grandmother runs the local cafe, Sherry’s father rarely ever has time for her when he is home and this time around he hasn’t been home for over half a year. That’s why Sherry is heartbroken to learn that despite his promises, her father will not be making it home for the celebration. Not one to stay down for long Sherry and her mother venture out to celebrate with the rest of the town.

Things quickly become strange as the height of the celebration comes to a screeching halt as all time around Sherry and her mother comes to a halt and various appliances and other machines come to life. After being separated from her mother in the ensuing chaos, Sherry returns home to find her father’s mysterious lab and an even more mysterious robot who claims to not only know her father, but has been ordered to protect her. With the robot, Isaac, by her side, Sherry must find her family and find out just what has happened to the town. Though she will have some extra help along the way as this journey sees her traveling not only the current frozen time, but to the past and future as well.

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers plays things fairly light when it comes to its storyline. Sherry has struggled with feeling like her family is a whole unit for years and when her mother and the town she loves falls into danger, she only grows more concerned about those around her. This allows the game’s focus to be spent more on the various characters and developing the relations between them which is where the game can be at its best since the actual plot is a bit too simple to really hold itself together on its own with humor that is childish even by this game’s standards. Instead what we have is a fairly solid storyline that remains light in nearly every way, including its own runtime.

Gameplay

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers plays like a fairly standard RPG where players will travel throughout the map where enemies are seen wandering around. When an enemy sees Sherry and touches her, or if the player sneaks up to them, combat will be initiated on a seperate screen. All battles are handled in a turn based fashion with sneak attacks giving player’s the first strike, surprise battles allowing enemies to strike first, and normal fights running through the standard gambit. The turn order is clearly presented and players will be able to make use of standard attacks, skills that vary depending on the character, items, defend, and run if possible on their turns. Skills require “SP” that recharges through battle by doing basically anything and every character has their own role to play with Isaac being the most unique in this regard as his robotic form allows him to assume numerous roles in a fight the further the player gets in the game.

Oddly enough, rather than worrying about the entire party the player has to keep their eyes on Isaac the most in a fight. This is because while the player’s whole party can usually fall in combat and result in a Game Over in this game if Isaac manages to die then it will result in an immediate failure no matter how well the rest of the party is doing. Thankfully this rarely is an issue as not only does the game allow players to avoid a number of fights should they choose to but also take on as many battles as they please while training their party to take down any threat with little cost to their resources.

That being said, considering the game’s already low difficulty ceiling, grinding is almost entirely unnecessary. Along those same lines the challenge of actually taking on enemies is nearly non-existent outside of a few boss battles and it is a nice touch that the developers included the option to slightly speed up combat animations to make the slog of battle go a bit quicker as even standard attacks feature a separate simplistic animation that tends to drag as the game goes on.

Players can choose to power up Sherry and the rest of the party with various pieces of equipment as well as mods for Sherry’s “blaster” and scrap to power up Isaac’s various abilities. A fleshed out elemental strength and weakness system is there to be taken advantage of and the game doesn’t try to hide any information when targeting a foe’s weakpoint making combat a breeze should the player focus on elemental targeting.

Perhaps the biggest sign that Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Traveler is intended for a bit of a younger audience, at least mechanically, is that the game features tutorials for basically everything. Whereas even the standard RPG may feature some tutorials for unusual mechanics or at least provide only a few at the beginning this game features tutorials for everything from camera movement and walking to how to equip items and use skills. This may be great for young players but a bit of an annoyance for anyone who’s played an RPG before.

Visuals & Audio

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Traveler features a very unique art style from Nippon Ichi Software with the developer taking a more Western “Pixar” like approach to the design of the world. The character models are nicely detailed with the characters having a solid amount of expressions in cutscenes and Isaac’s appearance changes can be a real blast. Even the enemy designs are unique enough though things do become a bit repetitive once the same designs end up reappearing with slight variations.

Oddly enough Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Traveler does not feature voice work of any kind. This doesn’t take away too much from the story but cutscenes that lack even the smallest reaction noises from the characters and even combat lack a bit of impact thanks to this choice. On the opposite side of things, the game’s soundtrack happens to feature an amazing collection of background music that fits perfectly no matter what type of event it is paired with.

Overall

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Traveler feels like a game designed with a younger audience in mind and tells a lighter storyline with that in mind with combat that is simplistic enough that it doesn’t truly provide a challenge but has some nice depth to it should the player choose to delve into it. This results in a fairly short RPG that may not be complex enough to really hold an older player’s attention but it does offer a cute little game that works well as an entry point for newer players or those looking for something of a palate cleanser.

Darksiders: Genesis Trailer Introduces Abilities

Both Strife and War will start with a variety of different moves in their arsenal they will gain more skills throughout the game as they obtain cores dropped from enemies and bosses and even from Vulgrim’s Store at the cost of souls.

The trailer can be found below while Darksiders: Genesis itself is set to be released on PC and the Google Stadia on December 5th with the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch releases occurring on February 14, 2020.

Detroit: Become Human Releasing on PC December 12

Back in May Quantic Dream announced that they would be bringing Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human to PC sometime this year and while the former two have since been released Detroit: Become Human has still avoided an exact release date. Well that has now changed as the developer has announced that the game will be launching on PC through the Epic Games Store on December 12th where it will be available for $39.99.

Originally released on the PlayStation 4 back in May 2018 Detroit: Become Human is set in the year 2038 and human like androids are everywhere. They speak, move and behave like human beings, but they are only machines serving humans. Players will control three separate androids and see a country on the brink of collapse where their choices can decide who lives and who dies.
