New Adele Class Headlines Global MapleStory Update

Rise: Promise of the Guardian Update Starts on June 10

Hot off its fifteenth anniversary festivities, renowned MMORPG, MapleStory, is offering players another cause for celebration with the arrival of a new class, Adele, in the Rise: Promise of the Guardian content update. Beginning June 10, Maplers can participate in fresh events, meet the newest addition to the MapleStory universe, Adele, a High Flora Warrior of Grandis, and explore a new region.

Adele is a highly anticipated class coming to Global MapleStory on June 24, after her popular introduction in Korea’s MapleStory server. Wielding Aether Swords conjured from pure magic, Maplers will find Adele nearly unstoppable, striking enemies without ever touching them.

Starting on June 10, the Tera Burning event will be back to support players leveling up new characters during the Rise event period. Players can rapidly gain a total of three level increases through each advancement up to level 200. Players who reach levels 200, 205, and 210, respectively, with their Tera Burning character after completing 5th job advancement, will receive special quest rewards.

Rounding out the Rise: Promise of the Guardian update, Maplers can participate in several themed events to earn a variety of gifts along the way:

●     Rise Salon: The first stop on the journey, players level 101 and beyond can pop in after completing the ‘[Rise] Invitation to the Rise Salon’ quest through the event notifier.

●     Rise Fountain: Granting wishes to visitors, the Rise Fountain is an area where players can come to put their Rise Coins aside, earning themselves varied rewards.

●     Rise Coin Shop: The main shop in the Rise Salon, players will need to find Gilberto in the Rise Salon map to purchase a variety of items using Rise Coins.

●     Rise Royal Shop: For players looking for special items, the Rise Royal Shop is a player’s paradise. Maplers who find and chat with Melissa can purchase a multitude of items here with Rise Coins.

●     Rise Stamp Shop: Diligent players who collect all of the daily Salon Stamps can purchase a plethora of goods from the Rise Stamp Shop, which houses everything useful and convenient.

●     Rise Famous Painting: This painting is said to be the most cherished painting by Daria, the Rise Salon’s host. Players who use the Salon Stamp can acquire a mysterious buff from the painting.

Kicking off on July 8, Maplers level 205 and beyond will also uncover Reverse City, a region along the Arcane River, and discover the upside down city.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey marks the birth of a highly anticipated new era for the long running definitive space simulation, allowing players to touch down on countless new planets powered by stunning new tech, and explore with unrestricted freedom from a first-person, feet-on-the-ground perspective.

MEGA CAT DEBUTS BITE THE BULLET AND LOG JAMMERS DEMOS AHEAD OF THE STEAM GAME FESTIVAL

Play the world’s first run and gun and EAT and then grab a friend for ax-throwing volleys.

PITTBURGH, PA – June 3, 2020 –

With the Steam Game Festival around the corner, indie developer Mega Cat Studios is kicking off the celebration early with exclusive game demos and Discord-focused events for Bite the Bullet and for Log Jammers. Bite the Bullet is the studio’s long-awaited run and gun and eat, a reimagining of the Metal Slug formula that incorporates roguelite elements, expansive skill trees, and stomach-based weapon crafting. Log Jammers, originally released as a new NES title, is a lightning-fast lumber-themed party game where players volley axes back and forth to score goals or to eliminate opposing cheerleaders.

Both of these games were scheduled for significant convention time in 2020, but with those events shuttered for now, Mega Cat is looking to capture the energy of gaming communities online.

“Losing so many face-to-face event opportunities with players has been hard for us,” James Deighan, Mega Cat Studios founder, says. “Gaming conventions aren’t just about promoting your game. They’re about making real connections with players and gathering one-of-a-kind feedback on your project. It’s exciting to see Steam step in to help fill that void, and we hope to build on that with more virtual player gatherings on Discord.”

That means in addition to playable demos in the Steam Game Festival, Mega Cat is teeing up coordinated events around co-op runs of Bite the Bullet, competitive matches in Log Jammers, and community free-for-alls with other multiplayer titles and trivia games.

It won’t be the same as being on the floor at an event like PAX, but Mega Cat hopes it will help bring gamers together.

“One of the magical parts of going to a convention is going booth to booth to try a bunch of games and ending up standing next to a complete stranger,” Deighan says. “But you’re playing the same game and sharing that new world and new gameplay, and suddenly you are swapping Discord handles and meeting up later in the free play area for a one-shot DnD session.

“With the Steam Game Festival and tools like Discord, maybe we can still enjoy some of that magic,” Deighan says.

To learn more about Bite the Bullet, Log Jammers, or the schedule of Mega Cat Discord events, tune into the Steam Game Festival and visit MegaCatStudios.com.

Everspace 2 Preview

Everspace 2

Developer: Rockfish Games
Publisher: Rockfish Games
Platform: PC
Release Date: TBA
Price: TBA – Wishlist Here

Everspace 2 is a space sim RPG hybrid with an emphasis on loot and exploration.  Developers Rockfish Games was able to cover the initial development costs with their own funds, while returning to Kickstarter to raise money for extra features in October 2019.

I was able to get some hands-on time with a recent game prototype. The build was supposed to be shown off at various gaming events this year, but those plans have been scrapped due to COVID-19. The prototype build gave me a small taste of the final game. I was able to get some combat time in with three ships, maintain my ship, experience a few basic missions, and explore a small section of a solar system.

There were a few missions that gave a quick peek at the game’s writing style. The writing wasn’t too serious as much of the conversation was tongue in cheek.  The humour has its hit and misses, so it will be interesting to see how the humour holds up when expanded into a full game.

Everspace 2 has moved away from its rogue-like roots and is strictly a space sim RPG. Death is no longer a permanent end to a run, rather players can reload at the last checkpoint. The RPG elements are focused on player and ship progression. Players gain experience as they kill enemies and get stat boosts when they level up. The space sim loot table is tweaked with equipment rarity and modifiers. Combined with a generous variety of weapon types, players can create ships to fill whichever niche a player wants. Besides the normal set of weapons, ships also carry a variety of consumables for buffs and heals, much like a traditional RPG.

Exploration is a major part of Everspace 2. Even though the prototype only contained a few planets and a few space stations, there were lots of asteroids and derelict areas to explore and find loot. Points of interests are clearly marked on the HUD, though densely populated areas can clutter the screen. Travelling around is easy due to a large number of transportation options. Players have boosters for short bursts, cruise engines for mid-range travel, jump engines for planet to planet travel, and warp gates for travelling between systems. The game does a good job of allowing players to spot points of interest while they are using high speed travel using a combination of HUD notifications and icons.

Combat in Everspace 2 is fast paced and frantic. The enemy ships in the demo were mobile and could be challenging to hit at times. The game does have some aim assistance in the form of lead markers to help land shots.

I tested the game using a mouse and keyboard. The controls are somewhere between simple arcade controls and hardcore simulation. The game plays very well, though some players may be initially overwhelmed with the number of keys dedicated to movement. In practice, most of the game can be played with the standard four movement keys and a mouse as the remaining keys will usually only offer faster maneuverability in tight situations or combat.

The visuals are already very impressive. The vastness of space contrasts well with the brighter human creations. The ship design is eye catching and practical. The UX is well designed and is easy to navigate.

The audio experience is very good so far. There are plenty of laser fire, gun fire, explosions, and engine noise to create a wonderful wall of sound during combat. The soundtrack is in standard sci-fi electronic music style. While the soundtrack would be at home in any space sim right now, the songs are enjoyable. I hope there will be more when the game finally releases in full.

Based on this small slice of Everspace 2, there is plenty of reason to be excited for the game’s upcoming Steam Early Access release, which is expected to launch sometime in the second half of 2020. The game has the right mix of exploration, loot grind, and combat to keep old fans happy and bring in new ones.

Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass Part 1 Releasing on June 17

Earlier in the year Nintendo announced that Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield would be getting an expansion pass consisting of two large pieces of content that would be offered at a $30 price tag with the first pack coming in June and the second arriving sometime later this year. Now Nintendo knows exactly when that first expansion, the Isle of Armor, is being released and it happens to be on June 17th.

The company also released a number of screenshots and released a gameplay trailer highlighting a number of things being added into the game such as the forms of “Kubfu,” returning classic pokemon, as well as some recycling and special soup mechanics.

PlayStation 5 “Future of Gaming” Presentation Postponed

Less than a week ago Sony announced that they would likely be fully revealing the PlayStation 5, beyond its Dualsense controller, for the first time on June 4th in North America and June 5th in PAL regions but now that will no longer be the case. Due to current events that see the United States in turmoil, Sony has now decided to postpone the event so that “more important voices” could be heard instead.

At the time of the announcement Sony did not state when fans could expect the reveal to next take place, though with one of their larger releases happening in a little more than two weeks, it will likely happen before then.
