Recompile Announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox One Series X

New trailer featuring the song “Jupiter” by Grammy award winning artist Aoife O’Donovan shows sci-fi Metroidvania-like in action

Manchester (July 1, 2020) – UK indie developer Phigames and publisher Dear Villagers today revealed as part of PlayStation Show that their 3D sci-fi Metroidvania-like is heading to PlayStation5 to Xbox Series X. The game will also be coming to Steam as previously announced.

Recompile features intense combat, tight 3D platforming, super-powered abilities and environmental physics-based hacking mechanics – everything, right down to foes, can be hacked. World obstacles include intelligent enemies and intricate environmental circuitry, and both require the mastery of new abilities such as time dilation and flying with a jetpack.

The adventure is built around a branching narrative system unique to the Metroidvania genre. Unlike a typical Metroidvania, it uses a dynamic narrative system based on play style, meaning player decisions alter the world and can lead to any one of multiple endings.

The story explores everything from machine sentience to the nature of reality. The player is a rogue piece of semi-sentient code, trapped in The Mainframe – a sprawling digital wasteland dead-set on deleting trespassers.

Features:

  • Metroidvania progression combined with a unique narrative branching system.
  • A range of futuristic weapons and super-powered abilities, including a jetpack.
  • Intense and intelligent combat
  • Hack through environmental circuitry, logic gates & even enemies.
  • Multiple endings depending on play style.
  • Face colossal entities blocking your path to freedom
  • Reactive soundtrack of blistering electro.

Where the Heart Is, the Experience of a Lifetime, Comes to PlayStation 4 Winter 2020

Dreamlike Journey Home From a Team of AAA Veterans

AUSTIN, TX — 1 July 2020 — Where the Heart Is, a surreal narrative journey through one man’s past where he will reevaluate a lifetime of important decisions, seeks greener pastures on PlayStation 4 in Winter 2020.

Directed and conceived by Armature Studio co-founder Todd Keller (lead artist for Metroid Prime), Where the Heart Is emerges from an all-star team of veteran developers, including Beth Foster (senior artist for Metroid Prime) and Scott Eaton (art manager for God of War).

On the kind of fateful stormy night that changes a man’s destiny, an enormous sinkhole opens in the middle of Whit Anderson’s farm. As thunder rumbles and rain lashes the Andersons, Casey—their curious Golden Retriever—ventures too close to the gaping maw and tumbles in. Desperate to save Casey, Whit descends into the darkness, but emerges in a realm beyond his imagining.

In this strange world, constantly shifting like the stops and starts of a dream, Whit bears witness to the story of his life and gains the power to change it.

Experience a lifetime in hazy, ethereal spaces made manifest by Whit’s memories. As they come into focus, explore his childhood, learn about his family, and uncover his greatest joys and regrets. Connect with others who’ve shared in Whit’s life, from his eccentric, misunderstood brother Sege and high school sweetheart Rene to the children they raise.

At pivotal moments in Whit’s dreamlike reflection, at the points in time and space where lives change forever, make new choices or stick with the decisions which helped form his family. Answer, for Whit, what life would have been like. If he’d stood with his brother. If he’d stayed behind. If he’d taken the leap. If he’d said ‘Yes.’

Behold surreal environments and structures that defy reality. Soak up an ambient soundscape befitting a dream. Discover what gets left behind, and what’s worth returning to, across a selection of intimate vignettes. Make hundreds of choices on the journey back home, where dozens of possible endings await.

“Our lived experience is like a dream—lying somewhere between the material facts of the moment and how we perceive that moment in our minds,” said Todd Keller, director, Armature Studio. “Where the Heart Is makes the dream lucid, inviting players to reflect on their lives as they walk through Whit’s. Perhaps they’ll find the grass really is greener, or that ‘home’ was inside them all along.”

Where the Heart Is dreams of a different life on PlayStation 4 this winter. To spend time with the Andersons, follow their story on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, or visit the official website.

WORMS RUMBLE REVEALED!

Frantic real-time combat, cross-play, and up-to-32-player online multiplayer gameplay to feature in the next instalment of the iconic franchise in its 25th anniversary year.

Wednesday, 1st July 2020 – Team17 has revealed the first details of Worms Rumble, the brand-new instalment in the iconic and multi-award-winning Worms franchise, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary. Announced today for PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, and PC, and set for a late 2020 launch, Worms Rumble will be the first game in the series to feature real-time combat and multi-platform cross-play, with up to 32 players able to take part in matches in a range of arena maps, including a multi-levelled shopping mall – complete with its own ballistic missile silo.

Registration is now open for players to participate in a closed beta of Worms Rumble on Steam, which begins on Wednesday 15th July at 12pm BST and runs through to Monday 20th July at 8am BST. The beta gives players their first chance to take part in the next stage of the Worms real-time revolution.

Worms Rumble will be fully-supported by ongoing, content updates featuring new arenas and customisations. Players will be able to level up their Worm and progress through the ranks, earning new weapons skins and character customisations, accessories and emotes as they go. Today’s announcement reveals some of the weapons making their way into Worms Rumble at launch later this year, including the Baseball Bat, Hand Cannon, Bazooka, Assault Rifle, and Shotgun.

Worms Rumble features:

  • Worms goes real-time: Every round is in REAL TIME. When enemies rain down fire, unleash heck right back!
  • Up-to-32-player, cross-platform multiplayer: Play across PlayStation generations and PC, with Deathmatch and Last Worm Standing solo and squad battle royale modes available at launch
  • Classic Weapons/New Ways to Play: Arm Worms with new and returning fan-favourite weapons, including the Bazooka, Holy Hand Grenade, and Hand Cannon
  • Events, Challenges and ‘The Lab’: Take part in seasonal events, daily and community challenges, and experiment with new gameplay mechanics and weapons in ‘The Lab’.
  • Player Customisations: Earn XP and in-game currency to unlock and purchase weapon skins, outfits, accessories and emotes. Players create their personal style for the battlefield.

Adam Findlay, Lead Designer, Team17, said:
“Yes we teased a new Worms game earlier in the year, and yes some in the community were speculating that we’d be taking the franchise into real-time action – and they were, of course, correct! Worms Rumble represents a significant rethink around the Worms experience, and not just because of the switch from turn-based gameplay. The up-to-32-player online cross-play between generations of PlayStation consoles and PC will unite the community and newcomers to the series in wonderfully Worm-tastic mayhem!”

Max Everingham, Head of Publishing, Team17, said:
“Today we’ve thrown an exploding sheep into the room and announced the most significant shake-up for Worms in… possibly ever! Worms Rumble and its real-time gameplay and promise of regular content updates underlines how we’re adapting an iconic franchise and keeping it fresh in its milestone 25th year and beyond.”

Dead Sells: Dead Cells Clears 3 Million Copies, Update 19 Deploying Death Today

Overhaul and rework of items, weapons, economy and merchants on tap for Update 19

Bordeaux, France (July 1st, 2020) — Motion Twin and Evil Empire announced that Dead Cells has sold 3 million copies over the course of its lifetime since hitting early access on Steam in 2017 and that the title has received its 19th major update today, which is available now for PC with console planned for release in the coming weeks.

Update 19 makes a lot (no, a lot) of smaller changes to the game, including sweeping changes to items and weapons – many of which were completely reworked, nerfed or boosted.

Examples of these small but meaningful changes include alterations to crossbows, which are now two-handed weapons (duh) and ‘Survival’ only, giving players two separate attacks and a generous health pool. There’s also a backpack that lets you hold a weapon (sorry, you can’t use it if it’s in the backpack) while you wield a two-handed weapon, making sure you’re never punished for switching back to a dual weapon build.

Additionally, the in-game economy and merchants got a makeover with the removal of gold-scaling (gear price will now go up with item level), prices have changed on a variety of items, and there are various changes to refining and affix rerolling costs. Shop categories are now color-based instead of being based on equipment type and you now get a shop reroll for free, however, it makes items on sale pricier so do with that what you will.

The other more notable changes include scrolls being removed from ++ and S weapons, but to compensate more scrolls have been added to the early biomes (heyoooo make it rain!), enemy damage has been reduced, and gear damage has been increased. #balance

Also, for fans who lovingly encountered unrelenting death in 2BC (two Boss Cells), the new update has smoothed out difficulty progression – 0BC (zero Boss Cells), for example, has been made more challenging in order to teach new players more of the moves and give them time to collect more gear/runes before progressing, but the difficulty curve in general has also been adjusted from 0-5BC so difficulty spikes should be (should be) less of a problem.

As always, the full updates can be found here: https://dead-cells.com/patchnotes

D3: Devolver Digital Direct Will Change The Industry on July 11

D3: Devolver Digital Direct Will Change The Industry on July 11

AUSTIN (July 1, 2020) – Amid a groundbreaking new level of tedious digital showcases, Devolver Digital aims to raise the bar for overrated marketing videos with this year’s Devolver Direct on July 11 at 12:00PM Pacific Time. The seventh best indie game label will step up to the plate once more and whiff real hard with a live pre-recorded presentation on Twitch [http://twitch.tv/twitchgaming] and Steam.

This year’s showcase continues the tradition of overpromises with new game reveals, gameplay reveals, release date announcements, and special guests from the industry to help usher in these important marketing bullet points. And it’s nearly all gameplay because that’s what the youths of today demand.

The astonishing misuse of marketing budget will end with a few surprises and game demos available to play by the unwashed masses including Carrion, Disc Room, and an unannounced game. Maybe another game too, who can really tell where this is all leading.

Devolver Digital fans and detractors can catch up on the unnecessarily intricate narrative to the ongoing saga by watching last year’s Devolver Direct [https://youtu.be/riNcPrsFYM0] and begin their uninformed speculation at on Discord [http://discord.gg/devolverdigital].

Oxford, July 1, 2020 – Rebellion Unplugged, the new tabletop division of one of Europe’s largest independent studios, is proud to announce the launch of Adventure, a brand new series of roleplaying games specifically designed to remove traditional barriers to play.

The project launches on Kickstarter today with Adventure Presents: Tartarus Gate, a journey through sci-fi horror. Tartarus Gate is designed by Grant Howitt & Chris Taylor, the creators of Spire and Honey Heist, and their work has been featured in the likes of Critical Role and The Adventure Zone. In Tartarus Gate, players will take on the role of unpaid interns in deep space trying to secure permanent jobs in the face of cosmic chaos.

Adventure Presents is a complete role-playing game in a single magazine. It operates as a series of pull-out supplements, leaving players with a complete rule set, character sheets, in-game handouts a GM’s reference and a 24-page adventure. To assist in remote play, Rebellion will be providing a digital asset pack including copies of the illustrations and character sheets to backers of both the physical and PDF editions.

“We’ve been working on Adventure for over a year, developing it to be a game that works equally well in person and remotely”, said Duncan Molloy, head of Rebellion Unplugged. “With everything that’s happened recently we’ve brought it to the top of our development plans to meet the evolving needs of our audience.

“We’re superbly suited for this too – we’ve been delivering 2000 AD to our many subscribers on a weekly basis throughout the lockdown, so we’ve got the systems in place to ensure we can deliver physical copies of Adventure Presents to players by the end of August.”

Rebellion Unplugged launched in November 2019 with a remit to release new physical games and collectibles based on Rebellion’s extensive collection of properties. Sniper Elite the Board Game is currently in development and scheduled to launch later this year.

Graffiti Games and Long Neck Games To Release Puzzle Platformer REZ PLZ on July 15 For Console and PC

Discover the Many Ways to Die on Xbox One, Nintendo SwitchTM and PC

Vancouver, Canada – July 1, 2020 – Death is just the beginning in co-op puzzle platformer REZ PLZ from Graffiti Games and Long Neck Games, and soon players can partake in the joys of sacrificing and resurrecting wizard brothers from a bevy of untimely deaths. REZ PLZ launches on July 15 for $14.99 USD on Nintendo SwitchTM, Xbox One and Steam (PC), and starting today those interested can preorder the game on Switch, while Xbox One preorders begin on July 3.

REZ PLZ is a pixel-art puzzle platformer with a new twist on co-op and single player gameplay. Join apprentice wizard brothers Arcan and Zeph as they fight the forces of Dark Arcanum armed with little more than the Resurrection Scroll, a tool they can use to bring each other back to life. While traversing through platforming challenges and solving puzzles, the brothers will encounter dangerous monsters and traps that require one of them to die in order to advance. But thanks to the magical scroll, the brothers are able to resurrect each other from a multitude of one-hit deaths, ranging from being sliced in half, eaten by creatures, burned alive and more. While progressing through the game, the brothers will unlock new spells that grant them abilities to conquer the increasingly difficult challenges ahead.

Discover these abilities and more in this new gameplay trailer:

REZ PLZ is the perfect game to sit down on the couch and play with a companion to pass time,” said Nathan Pearce, developer at Long Neck Games. “And time will fly as you’ll work together to solve puzzles and laugh at the many ways you can die. Home alone? Then try Remote Play on Steam to play with a friend or take on the challenges alone in single-player mode.”

Features include:

  • Co-op Play – REZ PLZ puts a unique spin on the traditional co-op concept. Instead of trying to keep each player alive through each level, players must strategically kill one of the brothers to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Use the Resurrection Scroll to bring Arcan and Zeph back to life.
  • Death Around Every Corner – Death is everywhere in REZ PLZ, and can come from a multitude of one-hit deaths, ranging from being sliced in half, eaten by creatures, burned alive and more. Death is part of the adventure!
  • Unlock Magical Spells – Unlock new spells to conquer the increasingly difficult challenges ahead, but be careful because these brothers are poor at magic and one bad spell can mean death!
  • Unlockables – Explore and find a bevy of unlockable cosmetic items and unlockable challenging gauntlet levels to customize your gameplay.

For more information regarding REZ PLZ please visit the game’s Steam page, or Graffiti’s Twitter page.
