Developer_Direct kicked off 2026 with new gameplay and developer insights for four games coming to Xbox, all of which players can enjoy this year.
The development teams at Playground Games (who brought two games to the show), Game Freak and Double Fine showed off Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Beast of Reincarnation, and surprise announcement, Kiln. Each brought extended new footage, looks behind the development curtain and, of course, information on when you’ll be able to play the games yourselves.
All the games in our show are Xbox Play Anywhere titles, meaning when you buy them through the Xbox or Windows store, they’re yours to play on PC, Xbox console, or supported gaming handhelds at no additional cost – and you can pick up where you left off with all your saves, game add‑ons, and achievements.
Here’s a summary of everything we brought to Developer_Direct today:
Beast of Reincarnation – Launching Summer 2026
Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Xbox Play Anywhere, Handheld Optimized, or play it day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (see developer website for other platforms)
Launching this summer and available day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Beast of Reincarnation promises an unforgettable blend of action, strategy, and mystery. Game Freak gave us more details on Emma and her companion Koo’s adventure in a haunting, post-apocalyptic Japan.
We learned that Emma has been afflicted by “blight” – which has removed her memories and emotions, but given her the ability to manipulate plants – and led her to meet Koo, a dog that’s become a “malefact.” Emma’s role is to hunt down malefacts, but she forms an unusual bond with Koo, setting her off on a journey through Japan circa 4026 AD.
Game Freak call Beast of Reincarnation a “one-person, one-dog action RPG”, and have created a unique combat system to match – Emma provides classic, fast-paced action game attacks in real-time, but Koo offers added skills that can be used from a menu that slows time, more like a turn-based RPG. It makes for a game that offers a very different feeling to other action titles, adding tactical complexity to high-speed combat – which can be tweaked to your liking with three difficulty settings.
You can learn much more about the characters, combat, world, story and the game’s dynamic tempo in our Xbox Wire article, and wishlist the game now ahead of its launch this summer.
Fable – Launching Autumn 2026
Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Xbox Play Anywhere, and launching day one with Game Pass Ultimate – also available on PlayStation 5 and Steam
The Fable team at Playground Games took us to the fairytale world of Albion, for the first in-depth look at the studio’s brand new open world action-RPG – and revealed that the game will be coming to players in Autumn 2026. Developed by a dedicated team at the UK-based studio, Fable is set to deliver everything players love about the original trilogy – choice and consequence, dry British wit and playful moral chaos – all reimagined for a new generation of players in an unmistakably Playground way.
During the show, we learned how your story in Albion begins, how character customization will work, learned more about the game’s new take on Fable’s morality system and saw brand-new gameplay that showcased combat – with enemies old and new – as well as the game’s unique living population of NPCs. Fablewill be a fresh new beginning for this much-loved franchise and will be coming Autumn 2026 to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, PlayStation 5 and Game Pass Ultimate.
Check out our in-depth interview with Fable GM & Game Director, Ralph Fulton here.
Forza Horizon 6 – Launching May 19, 2026
Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, Xbox Play Anywhere, Handheld Optimized, or play it day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at launch – coming to PS5 later in 2026
Forza Horizon 6 is speeding towards players in 2026, with the announcement that the much-anticipated next instalment of the Horizon series will be landing on May 19 this year. As part of the Developer_Direct show, the Forza team at Playground Games revealed first-ever gameplay showcasing the breathtaking landscapes of Japan in all their glory, and lifted the curtain on the spectacular cars that will be gracing the cover of the game – the 2025 GR GT Prototype, which is making its video game debut in Forza Horizon 6, and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.
Forza Horizon 6 will feature the largest and densest map of any Horizon game to date, full of verticality, diverse biomes, seasonality and breathtaking driving experiences – all elevated by Japan’s unique car culture. And just when you thought things couldn’t get better, the team provided an overview of the new features players will enjoy as part of Forza Horizon 6 – including Customizable Garages and The Estate, an overhauled car roster (with 550 cars to collect and customize at launch) as well as new shared experiences, Drag Meets and Horizon Time Attack Circuits.
For an in-depth look at what’s new in Forza Horizon 6, check out our interview with Design Director, Torben Ellert here.
Kiln – Launching Spring 2026
Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Xbox Play Anywhere, Handheld Optimized, or play it day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – also available on PlayStation 5 and Steam
We joined Double Fine in their game-turned-ceramics studio in San Francisco, California to learn more about Kiln, an Online Multiplayer Pottery-Party Brawler (say that ten times fast!), arriving this spring.
Double Fine’s new foray into fun asks the question: what would it look like for a game to combine the beautiful expression of creation with all of the chaotic fun of destruction? Turns out it’s a team-based arena battle game which asks you to craft ceramic battle armor on a realistic pottery wheel, and where your abilities are determined by the kind of pot you make.
We took a turn on the clay-splatted wheel to learn all about the 4v4 action of Kiln, the wide variety of crafting tools at your disposal, and what each size and shape of crafted pot means for your combat abilities.
You can catch more of the action in their smashing Announce trailer now and get fired up for the ultimate throwdown by wishlisting Kiln today. Help the team sculpt the game before it launches this Spring by signing up for their upcoming closed beta test, and joining the Double Fine Action Insiders. Find out about the game’s story, mechanics, and more in our hands-on preview on Xbox Wire.
Looking Ahead
As with every Developer_Direct, today’s show marks just a selection of the games coming to Xbox this year. 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Xbox, and offers a moment to honor the games, creators, teams, and players that have inspired play for decades – and we’ll be celebrating that all year long. With the likes of Gears of War: E-Day and Halo: Campaign Evolved still to come, we’ll be returning to some of our most beloved franchises, not to mention introducing new worlds of our own, and those from our incredible third-party partners. It’s going to be an incredible year – make sure to stay tuned to Xbox Wire and Xbox social channels to keep up to date with everything we have to show you.

Sydney, Australia, January 23, 2026 – After unveiling a first glimpse into the game’s lore, Milestone released a new trailer for Screamer, giving fans an overview of the game modes taking place in its futuristic and dystopian world. Set to launch on March 26, 2026, Screamer will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with Early Access starting on March 23, 2026.
The single-player campaign unfolds through The Tournament, the most ambitious illegal street-racing event ever organised. Five rival teams, each formed by three characters, clash in ruthless, no-holds-barred races fueled by the Echo System, a unique technology installed on every vehicle that enables both offensive and defensive actions. Every crew is driven by its own story, with unique motivations and identities reflected in both characters’ design and cars’ aesthetics. As players progress through the competition and play with the entire cast of characters, they will uncover these intertwined narratives through cinematic cutscenes featuring an international cast of actors, including Troy Baker and Aleks Le.
Beyond the main campaign, Screamer’s suite of game modes showcases its distinctive blend of high-octane racing and intense fighting. Team Races allow players to form their ideal squad by joining forces with one or two characters of their choice. Victory, however, is not determined by speed alone, as final rankings combine race positions with the number of KOs executed by each team member, rewarding cooperation and tactical play. Overdrive Challenge, on the other hand, throws risk-lovers straight into the fire. Overdrive, a special state that significantly boosts vehicle performance, is active from the start of the race, forcing players to handle their cars at maximum capacity. Every mistake can be fatal, as a crash ends the run, turning this into the ultimate test of survival. Inspired by classic arcade experiences, Score Challenge is a run-based mode that challenges daring and driving instinct. Players need to rack up as many points as possible by performing specific actions across a series of races, competing for a top spot on the leaderboard at the end of the run. As a homage to the genre’s golden age, Screamer also revives the challenge of old-school arcade racing built around precision racing lines and uncompromising speed. Time Attack puts performance to the test over three high-intensity laps, while Checkpoint mode introduces relentless pressure, and every second becomes a fight for survival. Finally, in Race mode, it will be possible to take full control and tweak every detail of the competition, offering maximum freedom and deep gameplay customisation.
From global matchups to couch play, Screamer offers plenty of multiplayer options as well. Ranked Team Races are the ideal choice for those who seek fierce competition, while in Private Lobbies it is possible to create races with custom rules and invite competitors directly. Finally, the Mixtape offers a rotating playlist of Races and Team Races to be played online, while split-screen allows up to four players to enjoy offline mayhem.
With a wide range of modes designed to reward skill and strategy, Screamer encourages players to explore every facet of its arcade ecosystem. From team-based clashes to solo challenges, mastering each mode will allow fans to refine playstyles while unlocking special items and customisations.

Manage your own antique shop, cut deals to pay rent, or seal your fate forever
Falun, Sweden, January 22nd 2026 | Kiwick Studios is excited to announce that their new indie roguelike, ‘Fortune Seller,’ is coming soon to Steam. A demo is available now. Dare to sell countless antique relics to meet your customers’ needs and your landlord’s steep rent prices. Draw from new tarot cards each day for new upgrades and abilities. How long will you be able to earn enough gold, meet ever-increasing rent, and sustain your shop?
Escape Crippling Debt, One Deal at a Time Customers come from near and far for your treasures. Now, you must optimize your daily quotas, making every sale count, or risk losing your shop for good! Your stingy landlord will only increase your rent by the day, so try your best to manage a Tetris-like inventory to sell enough items to cover each day’s required rent. Complete large sales by keeping your customers happy, filling their suitcases with desirable treasures. Tarot and spell cards will influence your sale’s overall value. At the end of the week, a scale-tipping lunar moon phase event will occur. Wake up to increased debt, restock limits, and reduced effects!
Stow Away Precious Cargo Customers’ luggage comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. Pack their newly prized possessions from your current inventory and refresh your selection, hopefully rotating to the items your customers crave the most. However, do so carefully, as refreshes are limited and you never know which item you might need next! Also, try to fill all item slots to earn massive sales bonuses. Use the tiles on the board to match items of the same type, which will increase their value and attract returning customers. Avoid tiles that could tarnish your treasures, reducing their value. Remember, every fit matters, and even the slightest misplacement could end your run prematurely!
Irresistible Rewards Guests never settle, and neither should your sales! Use Tarot cards to stack the value of your items, grant additional fill bonuses, and more. Each item has a unique type and a minor Arcana. Sell items of the same type to passively rank up your minor Arcana, making the overall class grow more valuable. Also, use spell cards to make items more powerful, reschedule moon phases, and even change the effects of Tarot cards entirely! Survive long enough to visit the store, where you can exchange any leftover coins for unlockable rewards. If you prefer, you can also make deals at a cost! Sign contracts to bring forth permanent changes to your runs at the expense of some of your current stats in exchange!
Full Gameplay Features
38 Total card upgrades available
22 Arcana-inspired cards and 8 monster and body organ-inspired Tarot cards, each providing unique passive effects to enhance your sales

Beloved Action-RPG Reaches 1 Million Total Sales as Moon Studios Invites Players to Join With Their Friends in Isola Sacra With Free Weekend and Deepest Discount Ever Before 1.0 Launch
Vienna, Austria – Jan. 22, 2026 – Independent developer Moon Studios has released the long-awaited co-op multiplayer update for the dark and painterly action-RPG No Rest for the Wicked following the update’s formal reveal last December. No Rest for the Wicked Together, now available on PC via Steam via Early Access, brings players and up to three friends together across persistent shared Realms rife with new gameplay mechanics that combine the best of ARPGs and MMOs while leaving behind the chaff. No Rest for the Wicked recently reached 1 million copies sold on Steam while still in Early Access, so the game’s active community is filled with potential party members.
Shared upgrades to the game’s Soulslike combat let enemies react naturally (and desperately) to being cornered or outnumbered, and new hand-picked enemy locations means plenty of new surprises. Players can work together during downtime to share and build housing, visit newly reworked vendors, and employ a simple voting system to keep fellow players from causing too much chaos. In addition to all the co-op multiplayer features, this latest update brings numerous quality-of-life updates to No Rest for the Wicked.
There’s never been a better time for players to try out No Rest for the Wicked, as the game is now available for 40% off on Steam ($23.99/€23.99), the lowest price since the original Early Access launch in 2024 and the deepest discount that will be offered before the official 1.0 release. Moreover, the game will be available to play for free from Jan. 22 at 10am PT to Jan. 26 at 10am PT. Moon Studios is also celebrating with exclusive Twitch drops between Jan. 22 and Jan. 30, including the gorgeous “Songkeeper” and “Champion’s Statue” in-game decorative items.
“The No Rest for the Wicked Together co-op update is an incredible milestone for the entire Moon Studios team, and we couldn’t be happier that it comes just after we’ve reached 1 million total sales of No Rest for the Wicked,” said Moon Studios CEO and game director Thomas Mahler. “Our team has been working nonstop since our last major update and we couldn’t be more thrilled to meet you all in Isola Sacra once more. This update includes an all new co-op experience with free private and persistent Realms, quality of life improvements and many features our community has been asking for. With this update, we’re one step closer to delivering the type of gaming masterpiece our fans have come to expect from Moon Studios.”
No Rest for the Wicked is the third full-length game from Moon Studios, following in the footsteps of the immensely beloved Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Players take on the role of a “Cerim,” a member of a holy order imbued with mysterious powers, tasked with destroying the Pestilence, an ancient plague that has begun to consume the island Isola Sacra, itself already the site of great political upheaval and death. Players can collect and craft weapons, items, and more to turn the tide of each battle, upgrade their character and personal homestead, and play their part in an epic tale of bloodshed and bravery. It’s all brought to life in Moon Studios’ signature painterly and vivid art style that helped define the Ori series as some of the most visually appealing titles of their generation.
The Together update will serve as a robust feature for players – old and new – to join forces for an unforgettable co-op experience. Moon Studios is continuing to develop and iterate on No Rest for the Wicked ahead of the game’s 1.0 release for PC, as well as early development for console platforms.
