Frontier Forges Ahead with New Games Label, Frontier Foundry
Frontier’s new games label expands the Company’s portfolio into new genres and platforms
Cambridge, UK – August 27, 2020. Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV, ‘Frontier’ or ‘the Company’) today debuted the first two titles from Frontier Foundry, its new games label championing quality studios from around the world. They are time-twisting turn-based combat strategy shooter Lemnis Gate, and physics-based co-op platformer Struggling. In both of these award winning games, innovative gameplay sits at the heart of the development process.
Frontier Foundry’s mission is simple: expand the Company’s excellent game portfolio by partnering with exciting developers. With their heritage as a developer, combined with a wealth of publishing experience, Frontier is perfectly placed to offer third-party studios expertise and guidance throughout the development cycle, delivering the vision its creators intended. And Frontier Foundry’s first two games represent radically new and different propositions indeed.
Struggling is Montreal studio Chasing Rats Games’ opera prima, putting players in the unsightly skin of a loveable monstrosity on a bizarre and outrageous adventure. Struggling is available now for Steam and Nintendo Switch.
Lemnis Gate, from fellow Montreal studio Ratloop Games Canada, subverts the popular first-person-shooter genre to create a brain-bending combat strategy where past, present, and future collide. Here, players harness the power of time to outthink and outwit their adversaries in this turn-based time-loop.
Five third-party games were signed to Frontier Foundry during the Company’s last financial year (the 12 months to 31 May 2020), including Lemnis Gate, Struggling and the previously announced and currently in development title by Surviving Mars developer Haemimont Games.
“Our journey into the world of self-publishing has always been underpinned by our passion to make memorable games that create legacies and break down boundaries,” says David Braben, Founder and CEO of Frontier. “We are one of the only developer-led publishers which means we are in a great position to work with excellent external partners to help them make great games. With Frontier Foundry our aim is to build upon our experience working with and building wonderful communities around a diverse catalogue of internally developed games, and bring that experience to those external development partnerships.”
Frontier Foundry is symbolic of Frontier’s continued growth and evolution. With more partners to be announced soon, this new games label will continue to promote genre-defining games for years to come.

Time is the Ultimate Weapon in Turn-Based Strategy Shooter, Lemnis Gate
Disrupt the past to change the future in Frontier Foundry and Ratloop Games Canada’s strategy shooter which challenges players to think differently about time travel
Cambridge, UK – August 27, 2020. Frontier Foundry today unveiled Lemnis Gate, the exciting turn-based combat strategy shooter with revolutionary four-dimensional gameplay, during Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live show. Lemnis Gate will be the second title published under Frontier Foundry, the newly founded Frontier-owned games label dedicated to championing diverse games from around the world.
Developed by Ratloop Games Canada, Lemnis Gate tasks players with defeating opponents in brain-bending 1v1 and 2v2 arena matches. Players have 25 seconds to execute an action, be it blasting an enemy, manoeuvring an operative, or setting up their next move. After all players have taken turns, the next 25-second round begins.
There are five rounds in total, giving rise to a near endless variety of incredible and creative plays. Set up ambushes, fix past mistakes, and develop unbeatable game plans to outthink and outwit adversaries. By using non-linear logic, abstract thinking, and outlandish manoeuvres, no two battles are ever the same. Past, present, and future collide.
Not only does Lemnis Gate’s mind-melting time loop mechanic breathe new life into the first-person-shooter genre, it also changes the very concept of teamwork through an innovative feature called ‘auto co-op’. This gives one player control of five deep space operatives, effectively enabling two players to duke it out in bustling, ten-character matches. Auto co-op shines in couch-based multiplayer, redefining both collaboration and competition as pad-passing players’ face-off with friends or work together by taking the hot-seat.
There are countless possibilities and endless outcomes. This turn-based strategy shooter subverts one of the world’s most popular genres, challenging players to throw out the rule book as they exploit time itself in this ultimate cognitive test. That’s why it’s already winning accolades, including the ‘best gameplay’ award from the Montreal Independent Game Awards 2019, an ‘outstanding original game’ nomination from the Unreal E3 Awards 2019, and a spot at the finals of the Ubisoft Indie Series 2019.
In Lemnis Gate, mental and physical warfare merge. Execute audacious strategies, master your hero’s abilities, and think several moves ahead to achieve a victory that reverberates across time itself.
Lemnis Gate is available to wishlist on Steam now, and will be launching on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2021.
