Check out the new manic multiplayer trailer for Georifters

Tuesday 8th September, 2020 – Taipei-based indie developer Busy Toaster Games and video game publisher Leoful today released an exciting new multiplayer trailer showing off some of the manic terrain bending shenanigans you can enjoy with up to four friends. Georifters will be available for Nintendo Switch via eShop in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong on September 18th.

Georifters is a platform manipulating adventure game where players must push, flip, twist or turn the terrain to overcome challenges and battle competitors in hundreds of stages in single-player, co-op or multiplayer modes. Grab up to four friends to team up with or against each other in fast paced ground manipulation battles.

In the Georifters’ story mode, you play as Candy as she navigates the six bubble worlds (each inspired by one of the human senses) all currently destabilizing due to a threat to each of their existence. Candy must tactically manipulate platforms to defeat the havoc inciting creatures that have been unleashed.

These six fantastical worlds consist of 30+ levels with 300+ stages, with seven different heroes to discover along the way, each with their own individual special way of manipulating the terrain. Use these skills to unearth hidden items, unlock power ups to upgrade your champions’ unique abilities and customise their look with over 50 different costume combinations to choose from.

The physical edition of Georifters, which includes exclusive Pro Gamer Candy skin parts on the Game Card, will launch first in Hong Kong and Taiwan on September 18th, 2020, followed by Southeast Asia on October 2nd, 2020. The digital version will be available on Nintendo eShop in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong for $29.99 / £27.50 / €31.90 on September 18th, 2020.

CI Games Announces New Studio Hexworks, Which Will Focus on Fantasy Action-RPGs

Led by Executive Producer Saul Gascon and Creative Director Cezar Virtosu, this team features staff with significant AAA game development experience.

(September 8th, 2020) — CI Games is proud to announce the opening of Hexworks, a brand new game development studio that is to be based in Barcelona and Bucharest. The Barcelona crew opened doors at the beginning of March, with the team in Bucharest following a few weeks later. Collectively, the team of veterans has been hard at work on their debut title: Lords of the Fallen 2. The fantasy action-RPG is targeted for next gen consoles and PC.

“It’s been a long time since we started talking about Lords of the Fallen 2 and trying different ideas. I am very excited for us to be able to announce the new studio that has been already at work for the last half of the year and made significant progress,” says CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski. “Initially we decided to keep that quiet as we didn’t want to bring that to public eyes before we would build the core team and before we would all agree on the details of the first project and move forward with our vision. So, this is the time to officially say we are here and we’re here to stay.”

Creative Director Cezar Virtosu and Executive Producer Saul Gason lead a Hexworks team of around 25 people including veteran staff with AAA game development experience, but the studio is embracing a bit more of an indie approach to development as opposed to larger studios. Hexworks projects will focus on the high-quality craftsmanship of role-playing games.

“As a dedicated gamer myself, I can feel when developers are passionate about the games they make,” says Executive Producer Saul Gascon. “And this is what our studio is all about: Creating games we love to play ourselves. We’ve gathered a kickass team of senior developers with a deep fascination for mature fantasy games. The path has been intense, especially with the global lockdown situation, but working shoulder-to-shoulder with Marek and Cezar, we’ve gathered a great team mostly from our networks. I can’t wait to share more information on the studio, and show what we are working on!”

The studio’s debut will be Lords of the Fallen 2 and the Hexworks team hopes it serves as a prime example of the studio’s pillars. Inspired by community feedback for the first game, Lords of the Fallen 2 is a shift from the original’s power fantasy to a dark fantasy. The sequel will also be much more loyal to the challenging combat experience that the Soulsborne and Souls-like communities enjoy.

“For many months now, the three of us worked defining and scoping the project, to find the right DNA that would grant us a competitive edge and still remain in the realm of feasibility,” says Hexworks Creative Director Cezar Virtosu. “It is challenging to develop combat focused games remotely, but this is offset by the ease of contacting and working with massive soulsborne fans scattered around the world. It is an intoxicating mix of indie production and fanwork, since we are not a big production block and we all come from the genre’s trenches, thus, regardless of nationality, we are speaking the same game language. We are enthusiastic about our mission and we are aiming to deliver a creatively charged gameplay experience within the genre’s framework.”

The establishment of Hexworks sends ripples across CI Games proper, as well, as the group is focusing more on the development of CI’s own IPs. The new initiative is spurred by 5.7 million Euro that CI Games has just raised from investors in the last week.

“I am very pleased with the strong interest from the investors,” Tyminski says. “This is a very good news for CI Games as a developer with studios in several locations in Europe.”

LG ELECTRONICS AUSTRALIA LAUNCH XBOOM GO PL SPEAKER LINEUP

LG ELECTRONICS AUSTRALIA LAUNCH XBOOM GO PL SPEAKER LINEUP

Premium audio powered by Meridian technology combines with unique design and lighting features to deliver a high-quality and portable listening experience

SYDNEY, 8th September 2020 – LG Electronics Australia (LG) today announced the arrival of the latest addition to its XBOOM Go portable Bluetooth speaker line-up, the LG XBOOM Go PL Series (models PL7, PL5 and PL2), available now in select retailers. The range is a perfect solution for premium audio on-the-go, complete with Meridian Audio technology, compact and splash-proof design, seamless connectivity and a battery life of up to 24 hours (PL7).1

LG has once again teamed up with Meridian Audio, the UK-based pioneers of high-fidelity audio, to deliver enhanced bass, clear vocals and rich treble in the company’s portable speaker range this year. The high-quality bass is driven by the inclusion of Dual Action Bass (PL7 and PL5), which uses passive radiators to pump out dynamic bass and immersive beats that users can both feel and hear.

Complementing the enhanced audio quality and adding an element of visual excitement for a group listening experience, the LG XBOOM Go PL speakers include a Multi-Colour Lighting feature (PL7, PL5). This feature employs a three-step process to detect tempo based on soundwaves, which then produces pulses of LED lighting in sync with the speed and beat of the song.

The XBOOM Go PL line-up further optimises the party experience through the Dual Play feature (PL7, PL5), which allows two of the same LG speakers to be connected at once, creating an even more immersive sound experience. What’s more? Users can connect two of the same LG XBOOM Go PL products (PL7, PL5), to act as rear channel speakers, with a compatible 2020 LG TV for an amplified viewing experience.

Furthermore, the line-up will allow users to control the speaker from a mobile device via the LG XBOOM Bluetooth app2 and pair two devices simultaneously to control a playlist without interruption.  Meanwhile, users can manage the audio connection, lighting effects, playlists, equaliser and more via the app with just a few clicks.

Finally, for added peace of mind, the IPX5 rated PL series is splash-proof. 4 The design will come in handy in settings such as outdoor meals and adventures. The compact design and up to 24-hour battery life (PL7) makes it ideal for on-the-go use, as well as at home.2

“LG Australia is passionate about providing consumers with entertainment experiences – even outside the home. Whether it’s a backyard BBQ, visit to the beach or park picnic, this summer Australians can experience a premium listening experience with the XBOOM Go portable speaker range both at home and on-the-go,” said Tony Brown, Marketing Manager for Home Entertainment at LG Electronics Australia. “Through our continued partnership with Meridian Audio, we’re pleased to offer Australians high-quality audio in a multi-functional range of speakers.”

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Review

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning

Developer: KAIKO, Big Huge Games
Publisher: THQ Nordic
Platforms: PlayStation 4Xbox OneWindows (Reviewed)
Release Date: 8 Sep 2020
Price: $39,99USD – Available Here $59.95AUD – Available Here

Overview

If there’s one game where its development could be made into a decent Netflix special, it’s Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning. Helmed by a studio run by a former MLB pitcher Curt Schilling, with creative support from Todd McFarlane and R. A. Salvatore. A stellar ensemble of creativity, turbulent development process, and a peculiar case of why the state of Rhode Island owned the rights to the game after the bankruptcy of Schilling’s development studio. In any case, I’m waiting to sell you my overly sensationalized story, Netflix. But that’s all in the past. Maybe thanks to all of that I have a remaster of the said game, humorously called Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. THQ Nordic sure likes to put a comedic spin in the names of its game remasters.

Story

Re-Reckoning is set in the Faelands, one of the Kingdoms of Amalur and home to the immortal Fae of the Summer and Winter Courts. Immortality doesn’t mean that they cannot die, it means that their essence will be reborn in another body, repeating the past, endlessly. Amalur is also home to a species of supernaturally-gifted people called “Fateweavers.” Fateweavers can look into an individual’s future and tell what they see, often with special attention paid to the individual’s eventual death. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning follows the story of a mortal known as the “Fateless One”, who, having died before the game’s outset, is revived in the experimental Well of Souls by the gnomish scientist Fomorous Hugues. After escaping from the Well of Souls, the Fateless One (having no memory of their life before their death) is briefed on the inner turmoils of Amalur, the political intrigues and where is his role in all of that chaos by a Fateweaver called Agarth. Agarth is simultaneously puzzled and pleased that he cannot read the future of Fateless One, suggesting that he might be the only one without a predetermined end. This power also allows the Fateless One to alter the fates of others, as Agarth discovers when the Fateless One saves him from his fated death at the hands of a native creature. And just like that, with your unique power and a huge arsenal of bladed weapons, you set your sight on the vast territory of Amalur to see whose fates you can alter – and possibly save the world. It would be an RPG without one world-saving plot, right?

Gameplay

Even during the release of the original, the game received praise for its engaging combat system. On the surface, it is a simple hack n slash combat where you can occasionally throw in a spell as you melee your way through enemies. But it is the simple flow of combat and responsiveness that makes it all shine. Your melee arsenal is made of daggers, swords, and hammers. Daggers are perfect for sneaking behind enemies back and dealing huge amounts of damage (as long as you’re undetected), sword is your “play it safe” pick when you just want to push through the horde and, as imagined, hammers are rather slow to swing but they tend to deal heavy damage. After every level up, you can assign points to be more proficient with those weapons, learn new spells, or having a higher success rate when persuading others in conversations. You can also learn to lockpick better, be a master alchemist or a blacksmith as you evolve. This will all take time and loads of exp, so what is the best way to earn them? Besides the obvious (playing through the story, duh), it would be wise do delve deeper into a hundred little side quests sprinkled through Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. What I like about the combat is that the enemies won’t just stand around as you attack one from the group (as it is sadly a common thing in older RPG games), instead they will all gang up on you from all sides. The smart tactic is to eliminate one or two from a distance with a spell or a stealth attack, before engaging with the rest.

Visuals

After a couple of hours of playing, I could see why they went with such a joke title in the remaster. Cause the remaster in terms of visuals is a joke as well, just not a one that lands. Most objects and environments received a facelift, there is now higher resolution support, but other than that I was really struggling to find something that stands out in this remaster. There is still a touch of shared brown palette throughout the game, open areas will often feel washed out but we can chalk that up to the infamous generic shooter syndrome from a decade ago. To be honest, I expected a bit more for this price tag.

Audio

There is one name from the development ensemble that I haven’t mentioned above. Could it be that I saved the best for last? Who knows. In any case, the man behind the musical score in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is none other than Grant Kirkhope. The nerds reading this will recognize him as someone behind the music of Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, GoldenEye 007, and Perfect Dark. His presence here is more than evident. Every main area has a specific music theme that goes with it and sooner or later, you’ll know where you are not by looking at the map just by listening to the background music. And when you don’t pay attention to the music, you’ll certainly be aware of all the background noise in the forests and caves. You are never alone since that inconspicuous sound could just be an enemy preparing an ambush for you.

Overall

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a welcome trip to the past. Despite the age between the original game and this remaster, the combat system is still as good as ever. There is great freedom in how you build and evolve your character and I have to mention a horde of side quests if you want to check out every nook and cranny of Amalur. And that’s only regarding the base game! The remaster comes with two huge story DLC, “Teeth of Naros”, and “Legend of Dead Kel”. In total, don’t be surprised if your playtime clocks a bit over 100 hours once you’re done with everything. There is also a 50% discount on the release day or the owners of the original and THQ Nordic has a completely new expansion called Fatesworn in the works, set to release in 2021.

FABIO ROVAZZI STARS IN CALL OF DUTY® MODERN WARFARE AND WARZONE™

FABIO ROVAZZI STARS IN CALL OF DUTY® MODERN WARFARE AND WARZONE™

Passionate gamer and long-time fan of the Call of Duty® saga, Fabio Rovazzi – singer, author, actor and director – has inspired a playable character in ‘Call of Duty: Warzone’ and ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. ‘Morte’ is the codename of the operator to whom Rovazzi gave his voice and appearance. Morte is a former member of the Italian special forces and is portrayed in-game with an Old-West inspired look that reflects his passion for Italian-Western movies.

Milan 7 September 2020 – Starting tomorrow, players from all over the world have an additional playable operator in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play first person shooter set in Modern Warfare’s universe with over 75 million registered players. The operator’s codename is Morte and his voice and appearance are those of Fabio Rovazzi, the multi-faceted 26-year-old Italian creator and artist. During his career, Rovazzi has been a singer, an actor and a film director. Fabio is a long-term fan of the Call of Duty franchise.

The new operator is a former soldier of the Italian special force ‘1° Regiment Col. Moschin’ and his appearance uses photogrammetry to realistically portray Fabio Rovazzi, with the addition of some very peculiar features. The operator’s look is inspired by the ‘Italian Western’ film genre, which during the 1960’s and the 1970’s relaunched the western in Italy thanks to extremely talented and famous directors, who included well-known actors in memorable films. The classic soldier-like beret is replaced by a cowboy hat and a stylish poncho. Add the iconic big and bushy beard to Fabio’s face and animate his hands with a gun spinning move, and there you have Morte coming to life in all his glorious badassery.

“Being a character in Call of Duty has always been a secret and impossible dream of mine,” says an enthusiastic Rovazzi, “and there are no words to describe the excitement of the opportunity to give my voice and my appearance to an operator. I also love the character tribute to the Italian Western tradition. When I think that millions of players will be able to play with my character, I feel flattered and satisfied beyond imagination”.

Morte’s background is a very intriguing one. The character interpreted by Rovazzi, whose real name is Sergio Sulla, was a kid from Salerno with a passion for Western-films and the dream of becoming a law enforcer. However, his desires were crushed by his hard and gall temper, leading him into the juvenile justice system for having ‘energetically defended’ some unfortunate people from local bullies. Being cut out from the law enforcer road, he enlisted as a volunteer in the Col. Moschin special force, serving in Iraq and Libya. But after some time, even the Army resulted unsuitable for Sergio, who is now the Warcom operator named Morte, a nickname symbolizing the ultimate tribute to the ‘dead’ dream of the bounty hunter who wanted to be a sheriff.

‘Morte’ has now joined Captain Price, Ghost, Gaz and the other legendary Call of Duty operators.

Call of Duty®: WarzoneTM and has reached over 75 million players to date.

Call of Duty®: WarzoneTM is free to download now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Internet connection required, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare full game sold separately.
