Boundary’s Realistic Space Environments Strive for Best In-Game Realism and Visual Perception Ahead of PC Launch.

Guangdong – China, September 14th 2020 – Chinese Independent developer, Surgical Scalpels today revealed how they are harnessing the power of real-time ray tracing for its near-future multiplayer shooter Boundary with its Ray Tracing Benchmark.

With the team’s aspirations to provide the best in-game resolution and visual perception in an environment where physics, lighting and surface reflections require different texture effects, developer Surgical Scalpels has embraced the power of real-time ray tracing to bring a more ‘visual edge’ to the game.

“The Ray Tracing benchmarking is important for Boundary, as a team we’ve always strived to bring a level of real world realism that takes Boundary to a whole new level.” Said Frank Mingbo Li, Technical Director at Surgical Scalpels. “Real-time global illumination is the prominent ray tracing feature of the benchmark,with these visual technologies we can definitely go further beyond our current graphic state, allowing us to be more realistic and more precise”. He added.

Boundary’s realistic space environments feature complex space structures and orbiting facilities for players to navigate around, some of which utilize large reflective surfaces such as solar panels and glass. The benchmark facilitates ray traced reflections on opaque and translucent surfaces. Boundary’s ray tracing benchmark improves real-time, cinematic-quality rendering, further enhancing things like shadows and ambient occlusion which dictates how both direct and indirect light react with different surfaces and textures from astro-operators space suits to a highly reflective solar panel or helmet visor.

Boundary was previously one of the winners of the DXR Spotlight contest in China which saw several developers compete in building tech demos in Unreal Engine 4.22 featuring Microsoft DirectX 12 and DirectX Raytracing.

Boundary is due to launch on PC and PlayStation with a date to be officially announced.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — September 14th, 2020 — Today, Ubisoft® announced that the eight teams in the upcoming Stage 2 of the Oceanic Nationals will be competing for a $40,000AUD prize pool, and the chance to compete in the November Six Major. The Oceanic Nationals is the premier Rainbow Six Siege tournament of the ANZ region.

The AUD$40,000 total prize pool will be spilt as follows:

  • 1st: $12,000
  • 2nd: $9,000
  • 3rd: $7,000
  • 4th: $5,000
  • 5th: $3,500
  • 6th: $3,500

At the conclusion of the playdays, the top six teams will move onto three days of Playoffs in Bo3 matches. The final two teams will then go head to head in a Bo5 Grand Final with a one map advantage to the upper bracket team to determine the winner of the stage.

At the end of this stage, the top three teams will qualify to compete in the November Six Major, which will continue in an online regional format, with the Asia-Pacific portion taking place on November 25 – 29. This will be the last chance for teams to earn points on the global standings in the race towards a qualification for the Six Invitational.

Ubisoft also announced the start of the online Open Qualifiers for the upcoming seasonal relegations, scheduled to begin mid-November. The top two teams from this qualifier will compete against the bottom two teams from the Oceanic Nationals in a double elimination Bo3 bracket starting on November 21 & 22. This will determine which teams will compete in Stage 1 of the Oceanic Nationals in 2021 and provides an entry point to highest level of Rainbow Six Siege competitive play in ANZ.

All matches of the Oceanic Nationals will be broadcast on global Rainbow 6 channels Wednesday and Friday nights from 7:00PM AEST on Twitch & YouTube.

NVIDIA to Acquire Arm for $40 Billion, Creating World’s Premier Computing Company for the Age of AI

NVIDIA and SoftBank Group Corp. (SBG) today announced a definitive agreement under which NVIDIA will acquire Arm Limited from SBG and the SoftBank Vision Fund (together, “SoftBank”) in a transaction valued at $40 billion. The transaction is expected to be immediately accretive to NVIDIA’s non-GAAP gross margin and non-GAAP earnings per share.

The combination brings together NVIDIA’s leading AI computing platform with Arm’s vast ecosystem to create the premier computing company for the age of artificial intelligence, accelerating innovation while expanding into large, high-growth markets. SoftBank will remain committed to Arm’s long-term success through its ownership stake in NVIDIA, expected to be under 10 percent.

Commitment to Arm and the UK

SoftBank and Arm are fully committed to satisfying the undertakings made by SoftBank when it acquired Arm in 2016, which are scheduled to complete in September 2021. Additional Transaction Details
Under the terms of the transaction, which has been approved by the boards of directors of NVIDIA, SBG and Arm, NVIDIA will pay to SoftBank a total of $21.5 billion in NVIDIA common stock and $12 billion in cash, which includes $2 billion payable at signing. The number of NVIDIA shares to be issued at closing is 44.3 million, determined using the average closing price of NVIDIA common stock for the last 30 trading days. Additionally, SoftBank may receive up to $5 billion in cash or common stock under an earn-out construct, subject to satisfaction of specific financial performance targets by Arm.

NVIDIA will also issue $1.5 billion in equity to Arm employees.

NVIDIA intends to finance the cash portion of the transaction with balance sheet cash. The transaction does not include Arm’s IoT Services Group.

The proposed transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals for the U.K., China, the European Union and the United States. Completion of the transaction is expected to take place in approximately 18 months.

New Borderlands® 3 Content, Features, and Plans Revealed During PAX Online

Gearbox Software and 2K confirmed full next-gen support, new Vault Hunter skill trees, additional add-on content, vertical split-screen, four-player local co-op, and more during today’s digital showcase

Hope you’re ready for more, Vault Hunters! Just in time for Borderlands 3’s one-year anniversary, Gearbox Software and 2K today revealed their plans for the future of Borderlands® 3 – including full next-gen support, a new skill tree for each Vault Hunter, additional co-op features, and more – during the Gearbox PAX Digital Showcase. To catch the showcase in full, see below.

Leading the way: confirmation that Borderlands 3 is coming to both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. If you already own the current-gen version of the game on Xbox One, you’ll receive a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X version. And if you own the game on PlayStation 4, you’ll receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version. This applies to all content you’ve purchased, as well as all your saves. You’ll be able to bring everything over to the new console generation.

In addition to running at 60 frames per second at 4K resolution on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in single-player, the next-gen console versions of Borderlands 3 will include two highly requested local co-op features, free for all players. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to play four-player split-screen, and when enjoying two-player co-op, you’ll have the option to divide the screen horizontally or vertically. That’s right, vertical split-screen! Better still, this vertical split-screen option will also be added to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game via a free patch.

Borderlands 3 will also receive additional add-on content later this year! Though the next paid add-on won’t look like the campaign DLCs of the now complete Season Pass, it will include a brand new game mode, as well as one new skill tree for each Vault Hunter – and with those new skill trees come new Action Skills.

During the Gearbox PAX Digital Showcase, Gearbox gave viewers an in-depth look at FL4K’s new “Trapper” skill tree – which emphasizes shields and survivability for both FL4K and their pet – plus FL4K’s new Action Skill: Gravity Snare, a throwable trap that tosses enemies up into the air before slamming them back into the ground. Enemies caught in its radius will have their attacks interrupted, giving FL4K a crowd control skill for the first time.

Gearbox also revealed FL4K’s latest pet option: a Hyperion Loaderbot. FL4K’s special Loaderbot buddy can be specced in a variety of ways as you work your way down the skill tree: there’s the range-based ION Loader, which fires slow-moving projectiles can be shot to create powerful shock novas; the BUL Loader, which charges enemies and knocks them into the air with its shield (or just roundhouse kicks them); and the WAR Loader, which packs an incendiary shotgun, can toss grenades, and unleashes homing missiles on command.

World of Tanks launches Tanks.TV to APAC fans

Wargaming’s World of Tanks has announced that it will be officially launching Tanks.TV to APAC fans today. The channel which was trialled through the World of Tanks ANZ Twitch in July will feature content specifically created for the games’ local audience. 

The trial stage of Tanks.TV, part of the World of Tanks ANZ Twitch channel, featured segments from World of Tanks content creators such as Flying_Elite, Mystblade and stewiejp. Going forward, the channel will feature similar talent presenting a mix of programming including gameplay, competitions, and esports. Initially the channel will have one program each day and depending on the long term response and available content, this may be expanded.

World of Tanks is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, a huge milestone for any game, and chose PAX Online 2020 to launch Tanks.TV.

“Over the past 10 years World of Tanks has continued to grow and evolve as a gaming experience for our fans and players. We aim to provide both a deeply engaging in-game environment and one that is welcoming to fans interested in knowing more about the game and being a part of the community. Tanks.TV is another step for us on this path and we are excited to interact with viewers in this new format,” states Alexander de Giorgio, Regional Publishing Director, WOT.

Alexander will be hosting a Q&A session on Wednesday,16 September at 8pm AEST talking about the Tanks.TV launch, PAX, and the World of Tanks 10th anniversary. He’ll also be running through some of the highlights of a World of Tanks cosplay competition currently underway in Japan.

The Tanks.TV project has been spearheaded by ANZ product manager Jake Truman who started with Wargaming in 2017 as the ANZ community manager for World of Tanks.

“The World of Tanks community is a very diverse audience who are great at sharing their thoughts and ideas on the game and other activity. We’ve been listening to them and have created a tailored and accessible channel, presenting it like a network television station with game shows, panel discussion, clip shows and, of course sports,” said Jake.

“Tanks.TV will also allow us to support our grassroots community contributors while also enabling our players to engage with their favourite personalities both from Wargaming and the community itself,” Jake added.

World of Tanks recently announced the launch of the ANZ Premier League which will also be kicking off at PAX Online and can be viewed through Tanks.TV.
