TEAM17 REWINDS TO THE 1980s WITH MYSTICAL TECHNO-ADVENTURE NARITA BOY

Studio Koba’s debut title arms players with the Techno-Sword and whisks them away to the Digital Kingdom later this spring on PC and consoles.

Wednesday, 3rd February 2021 – Team17 and Studio Koba have revealed the international games label is joining forces to publish the Spanish studio’s debut title, Narita Boy. The side-scrolling mystical techno-tale, which will release this spring on Steam, Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One – including on release day with Xbox Game Pass for PC and Console – is a heart-felt love story to the 1980s, featuring a narrative-driven adventure that takes players to a game inside a game, battling powerful bosses and overcoming puzzles in order to uncover the secrets of the Digital Kingdom and – ultimately – its creator.

Narita Boy puts players in the shoes of the eponymous digital warrior chosen to wield the Techno-Sword, a legendary weapon capable of defeating fearsome foes in melee or from afar as it instantly transforms into a shotgun or devastating laser beam. By using this new weapon and with the help of the Motherboard, the spiritual leader of the Digital Kingdom, players will face corrupted enemies and hulking bosses to save the electronic synthwave world from the invading Stallions, a group of rogue code bent on forced rule and subjugation. During the journey, players will also explore the memories of the creator that reveals his story, from his early years in Japan, to his creation of – and connection with – the Digital Kingdom.

Key Features:

  • Go back to the future: A homage to the eighties with a new spin on classic gameplay styles, Narita Boy takes players back in time for blast from the past
  • You have the power!: The Techno-Sword can be used alongside mysterious magic so that players can carve and blast their way through enemies great and small
  • Might as well jump: The classic 2D platformer will see players explore imaginative landscapes and navigate a plethora of pixel art environments
  • Pixel-perfect story: Encounter weird and wonderful digitised characters on a journey to discover the secrets of the Digital Kingdom and its elusive creator
  • Pump up the jam: Inspired by the glory days of analogue synthesizers, the pumping soundtrack turns back the clock for this techno-journey.

Narita Boy came to the attention of Team17’s indie games label following Studio Koba’s successful Kickstarter campaign that saw over 5,000 people back the game, leading to it smashing stretch goals.

Narita Boy powers Saving The Arcade World

Today also sees the launch of the Saving The Arcade World, a campaign powered by Narita Boy and created to raise awareness of the plight facing arcade games and arcade amusements. Team17 is partnering with The Strong: National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York; The National Videogame Museum in the UK; and Arcade Vintage: Museo del Videojuego in Spain, to ensure this distinct and important part of video games history is protected and preserved. Further information on #SavingTheArcadeWorld is available from www.team17.com.

The work on Siege Survival: Gloria Victis was started by an external team 2 years ago, with full support and supervision of Black Eye Games.

Now, after successfully merging both teams and starting the partnership with Koch Media, we secured the future development of both Siege Survival and our startup project, Gloria Victis MMORPG.

We hope players trying our demo during the Steam Game Festival enjoy playing it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.”

Daniel Emery, Senior Global Communications Manager with Koch Media said they were ‘delighted’ at the joint venture.

“We are delighted to team up with the team in Lublin, Poland – Black Eye Games – for this upcoming release.

Game Overview

Set in the same medieval environment as the Gloria Victis MMORPG – with its gritty realism, player driven economy and warring factions with swords and shields a plenty – the game sees your country being invaded and your city under siege; your group of civilians are trapped in the last remaining stronghold and are hanging on for dear life. Although you don’t participate in the fighting directly, the fate of the city is in your hands.

  • Scavenging: Venturing out from the safety of your keep, you have to explore the ransacked city at night to collect raw materials, abandoned goods and weapons that you need to survive and hold out long enough for the reinforcements to drive away the attackers.
  • Crafting & resource management: You need better weapons, a roof over your head, hot food and all the other trappings that just existing entail; and the only way you’ll get these is if you and your team craft them. But resources are scarce and you’ll need to manage them wisely to make it through in one piece.
  • Surviving: Defending what’s left of your city are a few tired troops in dire need of arrows, weapons and armour; along with treatment for the wounded. You need to keep this squad supplied and supported in every way possible ahead of their battles every few days; otherwise the enemy will storm the keep. Not only that, but you have to avoid the enemy soldiers when you go out into no man’s land every night.

Surrounding all this are numerous tough moral choices, tasks and a woven narrative that will take the player on a journey through Edring.

However, it took us several more centuries to reach a point where the visions our ancestors fantasized about in then-popular TV series and games like Battlestar Galactica and Homeworld became our reality. Roaming through endless space and fighting an alien race for resources was no longer something from a science fiction comic book but an everyday challenge for which we were well-prepared. The one thing we weren’t ready to face was the truth about our own species.

Add the game to your Steam Wishlist (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1252070/Star_Exodus/) to stay up to date with its development.

ABOUT STAR EXODUS

Star Exodus is a single-player, real-time strategy game defined by exploration and player choice that will allow gamers to wander throughout endless space. Fight for and manage resources while taking care of your crew. Embark on the journey of a lifetime and put your survival skills to the test. Modify your fleet, face an intelligent alien race, and try to find your place in the universe.

STAR EXODUS – MAIN FEATURES

  • Extract valuable resources from across the galaxy. Control and manage them wisely. Remember not to run out of food or fuel, and adjust your ships to your crew’s needs. Remember that if you lose a ship, all associated resources associated are gone.
  • Keep your crew’s morale high. In the end, your team is the most important resource you have, and you’re only as strong as your fleet. Think carefully before making every decision and try to be a responsible and conscious leader not to be abandoned due to poor management decisions.
  • Let your decisions shape the plot. Decide about the lives of not only your enemies but, more importantly, your crew. Be ready for the varied consequences your choices will bring. Remember that no two games will be the same, so try to discover all alternative endings and create your own story.
  • Be ready for close encounters of the third kind. Space is endless, and so are the possibilities of meeting various alien spaceships during exploration. Usually, their crews will attempt to brutally remove you from their path. It will be your job as captain to decide whether to protect your crew and escape or face the enemy fleet. Use environmental elements to trick your opponents or hide. Send battleships or ambush hostile aliens by lurking behind asteroids to protect your team. Don’t be too reckless, as the aliens may be smarter than you think.
  • Build the strongest space fleet around. Assign utilities to specific ships and customize your fleet as you develop. Choose the right tools to upgrade and modify your ships according to your needs. Meet and recruit friendly ships. See if you’ve got what it takes to build a powerful, truly unstoppable space fleet.
  • Decide what to do with the resources at your disposal. You choose to what extent you’ll take your space exploration. You can even create an entire society within your fleet. One thing is certain – you have possibilities no one on earth could ever imagine. The only question is – what will you do with them?

‘VIOLA: THE HEROINE’S MELODY’ 1.0 ARRIVES FEBRUARY 17

Musical Platformer RPG Graduates from Early Access This Month

February 2nd, 2021 — Jelle van Doorne is thrilled to announce the 1.0 release of the developer’s musical rhythm RPG Viola: The Heroine’s Melody is set to launch on February 17th for $14.99!

Viola: The Heroine’s Melody is the musical platformer RPG! After failing at violin practice for the hundredth time, Viola gets trapped inside her instrument’s fantastical world. She’s joined by a set of strange, colorful friends, as she journeys through the lands of magic, monsters and music… Searching for her way back home.

Viola: The Heroine’s Melody pulls inspiration from many classic JRPGs as well as modern indie takes on the genre. Turn-based battles, a ton of recruitable characters, and a personal story to sink your teeth into: Viola has all of this and more. However, Viola is not a passive RPG. Attacks require the player to time their button taps, and to unleash spells you’ll have to follow a series of rhythm game-esque inputs.

On top of being an RPG, Viola: The Heroine’s Melody is a side-scrolling platformer! With wall jumps and triple jumps, springs and cannons, you can explore each level and uncover every little secret. Find more potions, or gems to equip and customize each character’s stats! And don’t worry about random encounters: each monster is visible in the level. Don’t feel like fighting? Just jump around and find another path!

Viola: The Heroine’s Melody is currently available in Early Access for $9.99 on Steam, with the price set to increase to $14.99 upon the 1.0 launch. A console edition is also in the works for release later in 2021.
