OFFWORLD INDUSTRIES FOUNDER & CEO TO LEAVE CURRENT ROLE

Offworld Industries founder, Will ‘Merlin’ Stahl to step down as CEO after seven years… But following Offworld Industries biggest year yet, Stahl looks to the future

Vancouver, Canada, — 15th December 2020: Today, Will Stahl, Co-Founder & CEO of Offworld Industries, developers of the Project Reality mod and the critically lauded military warfare simulator, Squad, is announcing that, after seven years, he will be leaving the company before the end of the year.

Will has been involved in Offworld Industries since its formation both as an early leader of the company and later formally it’s CEO. During his tenure he has worked to get Offworld on the map as a growing Indie Developer, and has helped shepherd Offworld’s expansion into both an indie publisher, and a licensor of the first person shooter technology that powers Squad. Earlier this year, Squad left Early Access to critical acclaim and surpassed Offworld’s expectations for 2020. The company also published Redstone Interactive’s WWI sim, Beyond The Wire into Early Access, where it has received a strong early reception. 

Will leaves Offworld Industries after its most successful year yet. The recent launches of Squad and Beyond the Wire have given the company its strongest-ever position and momentum in the years ahead.

Will will remain involved with Offworld Industries as an advisor, board member, and shareholder, as well as overseeing the transition period and selection process for Offworld Industries’ new CEO. Effective immediately, Offworld Industries has created an executive board composed of Will, senior managers, and board members to divide the responsibilities of the CEO role during this transition.

“It has been nearly half of my life that I have been involved in Project Reality, Squad, and Offworld as a player, modder, and developer, and that time has been both an incredible journey and has produced experiences that I will forever cherish. What started as a group of modders simply trying to build a game out of a mod we all loved and be able to make a living doing what was once a hobby, has turned into what I see as a growing indie development ecosystem”, said Will. “This decision is a personal one that I had been considering for some time, as I’ve realized that in particular with the success of Squad leaving early access and exceeding our financial expectations for 2020, as well as our publishing project Beyond the Wire launching into Early Access, Offworld Industries is now stronger than it’s ever been before.”

Squad will continue to receive content and functionality updates in addition to a slate of new and exciting announcements planned from Offworld Industries across 2021 and beyond.

NACON REVEALS AN EXTENDED GAMEPLAY VIDEO FOR WEREWOLF: THE APOCALYPSE – EARTHBLOOD

Game Director Julien Desourteaux revisits the game’s development

Lesquin, France, December 14, 2020 – With Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood releasing on February 4, 2021, NACON and Cyanide are pleased to unveil a 6-minute gameplay video featuring the game’s exploration, stealth and brutal action. For the release of this video, Julien “Patch” Desourteaux, Game Director at Cyanide, provides insight into the game’s development, and its roots in the World of Darkness – a shared story universe where supernatural beings roam hidden from human’s sight.

The biggest challenge for Cyanide was implementing all the mechanics for an action RPG: designing the combat systems, balancing the effects, working on different types of animations, and more… When the main character, Cahal, shifts to his Crinos form, players must feel like a bestial predator. Thus, a “stance” system was implemented so players can switch between agility and ferocity according to the situation.

The team went to considerable effort to create a visceral beat’em up game while staying faithful to the original tabletop roleplaying game. In Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou are warriors of Gaia, the Mother Earth, and are fighting to save the planet from the Wyrm’s corruption. This aspect of the game is visible when the players explore environments like an overexploited forest, an arid desert or an offshore oil rig.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is the first action-RPG game adapted from the eponymous horror franchise. Mature, brutal, and complex, it invites the player to embody Cahal throughout his quest of bloody redemption. He’ll play an essential role in the great war led by the Garou against Endron, a global corporation whose activities are devastating the natural world.

Microsoft and Space Jam: A New Legacy are coming together for an epic partnership in the leadup to the film’s release in 2021. In celebration of the new movie, Xbox, Bugs Bunny and LeBron James are teaming up to help YOU create an original arcade-style video game inspired by the new movie.

Just announced on social, we’re on the hunt for the best fan-submitted video game ideas—the loonier, the better! Starting December 14 through December 30, fans ages 14 and up will be able to submit the game ideas they think will be a slam dunk at the official contest website. All you have to do is review the Official Rules, select the gaming genre of your choosing using a key image and describe your game idea in less than 500 words.

Two lucky winners will have their ideas brought to life in the official Space Jam: A New Legacy arcade-style video game, available as the newest Perk for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in 2021. Winners will also receive the following prizes: their names featured in the game credits; an exclusive winner’s bundle with signed and authenticated LeBron James memorabilia, Space Jam: A New Legacy merchandise and Nike VIP packs, and a personalized Xbox Series S console; a private friends and family screening of the filmand a virtual Microsoft coding workshop for their local community.

To help coders of all ages jump-start their creativity, Microsoft Stores are hosting free, one-of-a-kind Space Jam: A New Legacy-themed virtual workshops on video game creation. Students will build a playable prototype of a video game using block-based coding on the MakeCode Arcade platform, all while learning about the professional skills and STEAM careers that are involved in game design.

Additionally, there are two Microsoft Learn lessons targeting more experienced coders, older teens, high school and college-aged students, and adults that focus on how to use player stats to help a coach make real-time decisions in the middle of a game. In the first lesson, you can predict efficiency ratings with machine learning and Visual Studio Code, using data from human and Tune Squad basketball players. The second lesson includes building a web app that uses additional machine learning models in real time to help a coach decide who needs a water break and who should be put in the game to yield the highest likelihood of winning. Think you have what it takes to lead a dream team?

LeBron James and co-stars Don Cheadle and Cedric Joe will help introduce the Microsoft Store and Learn lessons with short videos focusing on the power of computer science and coding.  In the film, Joe plays James’s son Dom, who dreams of being a video game developer.

We’re so excited to join forces with Space Jam: A New Legacy to support computer science education. Our video game contest along with the coding workshops and lessons align with Microsoft’s greater skilling initiative, which aims at helping 25 million people—including those from under-represented populations—acquire new digital skills and apply them to their passions.

FINAL FANTASY XIV’S STARLIGHT CELEBRATION BRINGS THE CHILL OF WINTER TO EORZEA TODAY

ENDER LILIES Exorcises Steam Early Access on 21 Jan

Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S Versions Launch Alongside Steam v1.0 in Q2 2021

TOKYO – 14 Dec., 2020 – ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights, a dark fantasy metroidvania fairy tale from publisher Binary Haze Interactive, will explore a hauntingly beautiful world in Steam Early Access for Windows PC on Thursday, 21 Jan., 2021.

Developers Live Wire, Adglobe Tokyo and Adglobe Montreal Studio will bring ENDER LILIES to PlayStation 5™ via backwards compatibility with the native PlayStation 4™ app, Xbox Series X|S™, and Nintendo Switch™ in Q2 2021. The console editions will launch simultaneously alongside the 1.0 build on Steam with at least eight areas, adding several new ones to the three available at the start of Steam Early Access.

A poignant soundtrack from Mili, veteran of anime series including Ghost in the Shell and Goblin Slayer as well as rhythm games enjoyed by millions such as Cytus and Deemo, brings the world of ENDER LILIES to life. Sound effects by former Sega producer Keiichi Sugiyama with credits on franchises like Rez and Skies of Arcadia punctuate the soundtrack’s melancholy melodies. 

Guide the priestess Lily through winding caverns, underwater landscapes, forests of glowing trees and other areas devastated by a rain turning people undead. Each biome is gorgeously illustrated in a distinctly Japanese dark fantasy style. Purify challenging and ghastly bosses to recruit them as equippable companions. Mix and match the souls of the fallen to create an ethereal bodyguard squad, with attacks ranging from powerful axe blows to ranged bow strikes.

Upon exorcising foes, Lily will experience visions revealing glimpses of the past. Piece together the whole truth and solve the mystery behind the unholy rain before facing a choice that will decide the fate of a kingdom.

The game has seen lots of love and support from the community, has a very positive Steam user rating (94%) and has just received its first major update today. The new Winter Update includes hours of new gameplay, a completely new area, quests, an overhauled lighting system, new combat features, more customization options, implementation of the scavenger mechanics, and much more. Wizards of the Coast has granted Tactical Adventures a license to use the Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.1 content and rules in Solasta: Crown of the Magister.

Solasta is a team-based adventure game where each character plays a critical role in the campaign and can be a hero. The dynamic and mysterious world features elements of verticality, allowing players to use their surroundings as an element of strategy. Players can position ranged characters on high vantage points or send their thief down into shafts and caverns to scope out what lies ahead. In Solasta, light is a tool to explore the depths and hallows of dungeons or can be used as a weapon against the creatures of the dark, but if players aren’t careful, it will give away the party’s position to nasty creatures bent on their demise.

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. today announced that Kozuki Oden, the former daimyo of Wano Kuni’s Kuri region, 2nd Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates and crewmate of Pirate King Gol D. Roger, will be writing the next chapter of his samurai legend on the battlefields of ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4 as part of Character Pack 3. Wielding two legendary swords, Enma and Ame no Habakiri, Oden stood both toe-to-toe and arm-in-arm with history’s greatest warriors throughout his storied journeys in Wano Kuni and beyond.

Oden will be joined in ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4’s Character Pack 3 update by two of his fabled Akazaya Nine retainers: “Foxfire” Kin’emon and the aforementioned Okiku.
