LG HOSTS TECH LEADERS IN VIRTUAL “FUTURE TALK” ON THE VALUE OF OPEN INNOVATION IN A NEW ERA

LG CTO discusses company’s open innovation strategy and the importance of working together towards a united goal to make life good for all

SEOUL, Jan. 12, 2021 — Dr. I.P. Park, president and CTO of LG Electronics (LG), took to the virtual stage at the all-digital CES® 2021 to share the company’s inspiring vision for open innovation in the era of social distancing. As the host of LG Future Talk, Dr. Park explained and demonstrated how open innovation has been the underlying principle of the company’s latest technological breakthroughs.

In a year of unprecedented change, LG’s unwavering commitment to making life better has remained firm, as has the company’s ability to meet the changing needs of consumers worldwide. To illustrate this point, Dr. Park highlighted products such as the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier and the LG Smart Thermal Camera, which effortlessly help support consumers’ wellbeing. LG is also adapting its CLOi robots for various environments and tasks – from disinfecting high-traffic areas in public and commercial spaces to making door-to-door deliveries and serving food in restaurants – to help improve hygiene and minimise health risks for both employees and customers.

The core of today’s talk centred around open innovation, where Dr. Park was joined by Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Technology Association, to talk about the growing power of partnership across disciplines and industries to deliver what is right for consumers. The LG Innovation Council is a prime example of the company’s  many collaborative initiatives, bringing together a group of experts from a broad range of tech sector companies to learn, cooperate, discover new opportunities, and find new ways to improve people’s lives.

“Technologies and disciplines are converging to facilitate a host of digital innovations – AI, 5G connectivity, IoT, cloud, sensors, navigation, batteries – and they are transforming mobility which is a huge part of our lives,” remarked Shapiro. “And we’re seeing that sort of change in so many other areas too – transport, logistics, agriculture, healthcare, and even food.”

This open approach to innovation provides the basis for everything that LG is working towards, especially under its LG ThinQ brand, which encompasses the company’s AI and IoT-enabled devices. Joined by David Rabie, CEO of Tovala, whose oven-ready meal kits will soon be available for purchase in the LG ThinQ Store, Dr. Park envisioned an evolved ThinQ app that goes beyond control and monitoring functionality to become a full digital lifestyle platform. Through diverse partnerships and by implementing new features such as Scan-to-Cook, which lets users instantly apply the right oven settings for select pre-prepared meals by simply scanning the packaging’s barcode, LG makes home management effortless so customers can focus more on the things that matter to them most.

Dr. Park was again joined by Jean-François Gagné, CEO of Element AI, who last year helped Dr. Park announce the Levels of AI Experience framework at CES 2020. The two companies, along with other partners, are developing an innovative, new platform called the AIX Exchange that will enable industry leaders, researchers, policymakers and consumers, to engage directly with one another to discuss how to best implement AI for the good of all. Dr. Park also revealed some of the intelligent technologies LG has been working on, including Vision Pack, which will augment the existing AI capabilities of the company’s ThinQ refrigerators and smart mirrors.

Another key point of the talk centred on the LG vision for creating a consistent and connected user experience that extends to all areas of consumers’ lives. Together with Dmitry Loschinin, executive vice president of DXC Technology and president and CEO of Luxoft, Dr. Park unveiled LG and DXC Luxoft’s new joint venture named Alluto, which will reimagine the in-vehicle experience, leveraging LG webOS Auto to seamlessly connect car to home and office. As an illustration of webOS’ potential, Dr. Park also presented a new smart cabin concept that will offer immersive interactive experiences for passengers, as well as the possibility of a cloud-based mobility ecosystem suitable for a variety of commercial and public applications, including intelligent fleet management in tomorrow’s smart cities.

POWERFUL RUNES AND ELEVATED GAMEPLAY ADORN MASSIVE PUBG MOBILE VERSION 1.2 UPDATE

New gameplay, weapon, Metro Royale content, Royale Pass Season 17 and more begin to drop into world’s most popular mobile game

LOS ANGELES – Jan. 12, 2021 – Mystical powers descend on the hit mobile game PUBG MOBILE as part of the latest content update. Beginning today the popular Erangel map receives special runes from another world which bestow players with special power. Player can also tout the new FAMAS variable-fire assault rifle, boasting 5.56mm ammo with reduced recoil. The PUBG MOBILE Version 1.2 content update is available now for free via the App Store and Google Play.

In the new Runic Power Theme Gameplay, players can queue for a unique version of Erangel, where they will have the choice between one of three rune energies. After selecting their rune, each player will be granted a summon and a boost skill, which both can be consumed to provide strategic advantages on the battlefield. All rune skills can be reobtained by looting Erangel’s vast terrain. Similarly, runes can be experienced in PUBG MOBILE’s Cheer Park, where players can complete daily rune missions to earn fresh rewards. 

PUBG MOBILE’s powerful rune skills include:

  • Flame Rune – Players can summon a wheel of flame that rolls slowly forwards, dealing burn damage to afflicted players. An additional boost skill adds a burning enhancement to ammo for a brief period
  • Arctic Rune – In addition to the boost skill that adds a freezing enhancement to ammo, reducing healing effectiveness, players with this skill can summon a 3×3 grid of ice wall for mid-battle protection
  • Wind Rune – This skill summons a semi-transparent shield of wind that reduces bullet damage from weapons shot outside of it. The boost skill increases player movement speed and reduces reload time for a short time

In addition to the new features in Classic Mode, PUBG MOBILE’s ongoing collaboration with popular first-person shooter Metro Exodus intensifies today with a fresh chapter. In the new Metro Royale: Honor chapter, players can obtain Honor by defeating enemies and collecting in-game items, which both increase Honor levels. Honor can be accumulated to unlock special voice packs, outfits and other permanent rewards.

The highly anticipated Royale Pass Season 17 is also set to arrive in PUBG MOBILE on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Boasting a RUNIC POWER theme, Season 17 offers updated Royale Pass missions, Activity Pack events and stunning cosmetics, such as the Deadly Sickle and Guardian Armor Set. A new game variant of PUBG MOBILE’s popular EvoGround Mode is also set to touch down on Friday, Feb. 5, delivering high-tech Power Armor and Matrix Events on the condensed Livik map.

Games for Change Announces 2021 Festival Themes and Calls on Global Community to Imagine the Next Decade of Social Impact Games

The 18th annual Games for Change Festival will take place July 12-14

NEW YORK (January 12, 2021)—Today, Games for Change (G4C), the leading advocate of games for social impact began accepting speaker submissions and award nominations for the 2021 Games for Change Festival (July 12-14)—the largest industry-facing event for social impact games in the world. Major themes of the Festival include a focus on achieving equity and social justice, ensuring a thriving planet, promoting mental health, and regaining a sense of security.

“The issues Games for Change has advocated for years have been accelerated through this time of adversity,” said G4C President, Susanna Pollack. “We need to continue that momentum by sharing lessons learned and thinking big about the road ahead. We invite developers, researchers, innovators, and changemakers to create this shared vision for our industry and hope to inspire the next generation of media that tackles our world’s most pressing issues.”

Through an open call for session submissions, Games for Change is inviting the global gaming community to share the latest thinking around games and immersive media that imagine, inspire, and ignite a future rooted in tangible social impact. Talks, panels, workshops, and demos will be presented across multiple tracks, including but not limited to Civics & Social Issues, Health & Wellness, Games for Learning, and the return of the XR for Change Summit.

Given the increased interest from international communities joining the Festival virtually in 2020, Games for Change will feature more sessions and speakers whose work is making an impact outside of the United States. In addition, Games for Change reinforces that the Festival is a platform for all voices and backgrounds, providing the community an opportunity to celebrate and reinforce core values: cross-sector collaboration, innovative and progressive thinking, and diverse perspectives.

Nominations have also opened for the 2021 Games for Change Awards, which recognizes and celebrates games in various categories. Games and XR experiences released between January 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021 are eligible to apply for one or more of the six award categories, such as Most Innovative, Best Gameplay, and Best Learning Game. Through a rigorous evaluation process by industry professionals, four finalists will be chosen in each category.

KING ARTHUR: KNIGHT’S TALE – NEW EARLY ACCESS DATE: 26 JANUARY

12 January, 2021 – In the past few weeks, we here at NeocoreGames have been working on delivering the Early Access version of King Arthur: Knight’s Tale. We’re very nearly there. However, there are still a few bumps to iron out, and as a result we’ve taken the decision to push back the Early Access release of King Arthur: Knight’s Tale by a few days.

Based on the Arthurian mythology, KING ARTHUR: KNIGHT’S TALE is a turn-based tactical role playing game – a unique hybrid between turn-based tactical games and traditional, character-centric RPGs. KING ARTHUR: KNIGHT’S TALE is a modern retelling of a classic Arthurian mythology story filtered through the dark fantasy tropes, a twist on the traditional tales of chivalry.

MAIN FEATURES

Your Fights – Control a small team of heroes and fight grueling, but satisfying battles with a deeply engaging, tactical turn-based combat system. Choose from more than 30 heroes of 5 diverse classes and combine hundreds of skills and artifacts to assemble an efficient team.

Explore the mystical island of Avalon, venture on knightly quests and make decisions in various encounters where you’ll need to make moral choices, as in most RPGs, which all have impact on the story and your Morality. The end of the campaign opens up new endgame content for the bravest of all: tough new challenges appear on the map with challenging, mythic boss fights and random quests, loot, and character progression ultimately leading to the banishing of Balor, the monstrous god-king of the Fomorians himself.

Beyond the Legend – Complete more than 50 unique points of interest on the Adventure Map, including 20 story missions and various side quests, taking place on diverse terrains. Journey to dark castle dungeons and the forests of the Sídhe, all built by using photoscanned environments and complemented by high-quality mocap animation, then rendered inside a modern PBR engine utilizing DirectX 12 to support strong, atmospheric effects.
