To view and share the official Back 4 Blood – Launch Trailer

Developed by Turtle Rock Studios, the award-winning creators of the fan-favourite Left 4 Dead franchise, Back 4 Blood combines a dynamic co-op campaign with thrilling moment-to-moment gameplay and near endless replayability that can be played with up to four friends online. The game also features a unique take on competitive, team-based strategy through the game’s PvP (Player vs. Player) Swarm mode. The Back 4 Blood campaign takes place after a catastrophic outbreak where most of humanity has either been killed or infected by a parasitic Devil Worm. Gamers can play as apocalypse veterans called Cleaners, a group of spirited zombie slayers, as they take on the infected horrors known as the Ridden in their effort to reclaim the world.

“We are thrilled to launch Back 4 Blood and partner with the talented team at Turtle Rock Studios to bring gamers an exciting new experience in the co-op zombie shooter genre,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “Back 4 Blood gives players action packed gameplay with different competitive encounters that we feel fans will really have fun playing.”

Back 4 Blood encapsulates all of the hard work by the entire Turtle Rock Studios team to deliver a brand-new, best-in-class zombie shooter,” said Chris Ashton, Co-Founder and Design Director, Turtle Rock Studios. “This is the game we envisioned for our passionate and dedicated community, and we are proud to finally see it realised for our fans to enjoy.”

Back 4 Blood features a diverse cast of eight playable characters making up the Ridden slaying crew known as the Cleaners, including Holly, Walker, Doc, Karlee, Jim, Hoffman, Evangelo and Mom. Each Cleaner has their own in-game perks and secondary weapon to complement their distinct personalities, as they take on countless Ridden variants throughout the fight, from towering Tallboys, beastly Breakers and grotesque Ogres to screeching Snitches, ravenous Hags and many more.

Back 4 Blood utilises the innovative Card System, a new rogue-lite component that enhances the experience with each playthrough, ensuring that every gameplay session feels unique. Players can easily dive into the Card System’s vast customisation options to create their own fully personalised deck of cards to combat the adaptive A.I. known as the Game Director, which monitors actions behind-the-scenes and responds accordingly by adding obstacles such as special Ridden mutations through Card System modifiers known as Corruption Cards. Players can change up the gameplay by utilising specific cards to strategise against the Game Director, from amplifying equipment to reloading weapons, as they take on hordes of enemies in their path.

Swarm mode in Back 4 Blood accompanies the game’s cooperative campaign elements with more gut-wrenching action and a new twist on PvP gameplay. Two squads of four can face off against each other in a best-of-three series of rounds as teams swap between playing as the Cleaners and the Ridden. Points are then awarded based on how long the Cleaners can stay alive and endure Ridden attacks, with the team that clocks the most time winning the match. While playing from the Ridden perspective, gamers can choose from nine Ridden types, each with different characteristics that can be upgraded with enhancements called mutations and then used collectively to aid the team and help turn the tide as the match progresses.

The Back 4 BloodStandard Edition is available for $99.95 AUD (RRP). The digital only Back 4 Blood: Deluxe Edition is available for $149.95 AUD (RRP), including the base game and Annual Pass featuring three upcoming downloadable content drops. The Back 4 Blood: Ultimate Edition is available for $159.95 AUD (RRP) including the base game, Annual Pass, Four-Character Battle Hardened Skin Pack and additional digital in-game items (Rare Banner, Spray, Emblem and Title).

VIDEO GAMES MEET COMIC BOOKS: LEARN MORE ABOUT BEYOND A STEEL SKY’S UNIQUE ART STYLE IN A NEW DEV DIARY

Sydney, Australia – October 13, 2021 – Studio Revolution Software and publisher Microids are delighted to unveil a Dev Diary for Beyond a Steel Sky, exploring the game’s unique art style. From Charles Cecil, creator of the Broken Sword series, with art direction by Dave Gibbons, legendary comic book artist behind Watchmen, Beyond a Steel Sky is the spiritual successor to the classic Beneath a Steel Sky. The game will launch November 30 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles and Nintendo Switch.

In this new Dev Diary, Art Directors Dave Gibbons and Sucha Singh detail the artistic intent and process behind Beyond a Steel Sky. “What we’ve done is to give it a comic book look, because we felt it was really appropriate to the game” explains Dave Gibbons. To achieve this distinct comic book style, Revolution wrote a custom cel-shading tool, ToonToy, which emulates Dave’s hand-drawn comic book style in real time. As well as achieving an aesthetic objective, this visual style helps focus the eye on key, important background objects that are important for gameplay.

The game’s visual design developed from the close collaboration between Dave Gibbons and Revolution Software’s art team, thanks to a fruitful iterative process where each fed off the other’s expertise, both technically and artistically. “It’s a very fluid process, providing very fast feedback as well. I can do a couple dozen drawings and I’ll get feedback that same day.” adds Dave.

Of course, aspects of Beyond a Steel Sky’s art style take inspiration from Beneath a Steel Sky, featuring numerous references to the previous game. “But newcomers won’t need to have played the original to enjoy Beyond. Both sets of fans will be happy.” says Sucha Singh.

Key features:

  • A fascinating sci-fi world – An adventure set within a dynamic world, populated by willful characters driven by motivations that the player can subvert. In combination with a unique hacking tool, multiple solutions to puzzles emerge from player choices.
  • A thrilling story full of humour – Unravel dark conspiracies, defeat a terrifying antagonist in this dramatic, humorous, cyberpunk thriller, which explores contemporary themes: social control, AI, and total surveillance.
  • A unique 3D comic book art style – A beautifully detailed, comic-book styled world, from the mind of legendary comic artist Dave Gibbons.
  • Ingenious puzzles – Intelligent puzzles are interwoven with an intriguing dramatic narrative to deliver a compelling gameplay experience.

But I did get a passionate community just as excited about space exploration as I am!”

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Review

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

Publisher: GameMill Entertainment
Platforms:Switch, PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4 (Reviewed), Playstation 5, Xbox One S|X
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $49.99 – Available Here | $69.95 – Available Here

Overview

We’ve seen a lot of Nicktoons titles over the years. Nicktoons RacingNicktoons Baseball, and so on have basically acted as semi-average fare to capture kids’ eyes – while possibly tugging on another market or two with a bit of nostalgia. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl looks to do the same but was released with a lot of hype behind it as it’s an unaplogetic Smash clone with a roster that is sure to get the attention of a lot of us older gamers out there. Is timing everything, or was the hype here a bit unnecessary? Let’s find out.

Story

I wish I had something to write about here. Even though fighters are not known for their narrative, with the characters involved, some sort of silly story bringing together this cast would have been just fine and filled out the game. Characters do have text dialogue, but outside of a one-liner before battle, there isn’t really much story to speak of. On top of that, the dialogue is not interactive between characters, so SpongeBob or Helga will be saying the same thing to just about anyone they encounter. Is story needed in this genre? No, not at all, but with Nicktoons that were chosen due to their personality and fit, it feels like a missed opportunity for All-Star Brawl to leave out such a simple addition.

Gameplay

So how does this clone stack up? Mostly, things are rather competent. Each character has an assortment of moves, and players have a goal of knocking the opposing foes off the map. Every face-button input has a small set of attacks, special moves, and so on – which all work well for the characters involved. That said, there isn’t anything else to really make this brawler pop. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the small touches that go a long way to enhance each character’s moveset. For instance, Catdog can switch between species, with each having their own themed special attacks that act as throwbacks to the show. From Sandy’s karate to April relying on studio equipment, these moves fit well here and do a lot to give the player a more fleshed out feeling that they are playing as the character from a Nicktoon.

In almost every way, this game is a Smash clone. The menus, the HUD, and so on mimic All-Star Brawl’s inspiration closely, which does nothing but enhance the gameplay. The stages are also a joy to play on, as they are interactive set pieces, ripped from cartoons they’re inspired by. Everything should be perfect, but instead, the more Easter eggs you find, the emptier this shell feels. There are no large smash attacks. No items, or silly assist summons. Just fighting and knocking the opponent out based on the damage they collected.

It’s such a shame as I do think this could have had the potential to compete. I mean, the love is there. It’s one of those games that had a passionate team who obviously knew the source material and cared about making a good game yet seemed to lack the assets and time to make it all continuously exciting as a whole experience. After just a few rounds of Arcade Mode, I found myself already bored with the character I had and ready to choose another. Once you explore the small roster, there are a few other modes to play such as a sports mode and slightly varied activities, but without unlockable content other than stickers and loading screens, the rewards simply do not match the monotony that comes during long sessions. Online and local multiplayer do add a lot to get more time out of the game, and the net code was fine. Regardless- solo or with a friend, I just kept thinking “OK, I’m good now”. I think fighting games need more, and with this cast- it is a disappointment we only got to scratch the surface of what a competent Smash clone could be in this wacky universe.

Visuals

The character models are outstanding. From getting every pixel perfect on Powdered Toast Man to playing as Ren and Stimpy as a duo, each cast member look as they should and feel just like you would expect. Animations are also clean and do give a great sense of variety for the attacks. Like I mentioned, it is all about the little things that give this game its greatest attribute, which is the attention to detail that was applied to the roster from a visual standpoint.

Audio

While the visuals are great, the audio is yet another downfall to the experience. There are no original voices present for these characters, so playing as anyone takes time to get used to due to that emptiness that comes with seeing a mute SpongeBob or a silent “Loud” family member. The soundtrack is sure to be divisive as well, featuring generic tunes that try to mimic theme songs from the official Nicktoons, but still feel very distant as they do nothing to bring out any atmosphere to the overall experience. I got excited at the City Dump stage as the scream from “Aaahh!! Real Monsters!” starts out the song, only to go into this wonky beat that pulled me back out of the world, where I then began to reach for my phone and play the real deal while the game was played on mute. I can see the effort and attempts made, but when you are dealing with anything licensed and you have the official license for the characters, it seems like an odd decision to omit the music that made these cartoons a delight.

Overall

I have a long history with Nicktoons, which makes Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl a difficult pill to swallow. The gameplay is great at its core- but that’s the problem. It’s just a core. There are no bells and whistles. No chaos or excitement that makes these characters feel like themselves. Nicktoons are nostalgic for generations of kids, and I get why there was so much hype as All-Star Brawl effortlessly nails its gameplay and visuals where it counts. However, without music, voice acting, or any personality, this brawler comes off more as a novelty than a real contender, offering a hollow visitation to worlds and characters that deserve so much more. After all, they’re not just cartoons, they’re Nicktoons.

Doktor’s Curse Returns in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

Starting tomorrow, hunt monsters in a spooky limited-time event

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – October 12, 2021 – Today, Ubisoft® announced that the frightful, limited-time event from Tom Clancy’s Rainbow SixSiege Year 4, Doktor’s Curse, will be back starting tomorrow until November 2. This event brings back the Monster Hunt game mode in the same spooky but reworked, Frankenstein version of the Theme Park map where Doc’s dreadful horrors are roaming. But this time, monsters will hunt monsters.

Click the image to be taken to the trailer

In this new version of the 5v5 Monster Hunt mode, some Monsters (Lion and Jackal) have joined the side of the Exterminators. The Sledges are back and again, they only wield Sledge hammers as weapons and one gadget from a selection of three, each attached to a unique operator skin – Eyenox Model III (Jackal), Heartbeat Sensor (Pulse) and EE-ONE-D (Lion). They will face five other Monsters: a cast composed of Lesion, Frost, Kapkan, Smoke, and Ela, with new additions of Aruni and Melusi. The defending Monsters have no weapons but can use traps and a unique ability created for this mode: become momentarily invisible and run faster to escape. The attacking Monsters’ goal is to kill all the opponents, while the defending Monsters must try to survive the round.

The Doktor’s Curse Collection, including bundles for Smoke, Kapkan, Frost, Lesion, Doc, Bandit and Ela, is back, with the addition of bundles for the new Monsters: Jackal, Lion, Aruni, Melusi, and Kaid. Bundles are available for 1680 R6 Credits each or via the collection packs for 300 R6 Credits each. Each player logging in from tomorrow until November 2 will get a Doktor’s Curse pack for free and can get three other packs by completing Ubisoft Challenges.

To The Rescue! Adopts Nov. 4, 2021 Release Date on PC

Nintendo Switch Version Takes A Nap Until Early 2022

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Oct. 11, 2021 – To The Rescue!, the heartfelt dog shelter management simulator from developer Little Rock Games and publisher Freedom Games, jumps into the loving arms of Windows PC and Mac via Steam on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021. The Nintendo Switch version goes up for adoption in Q1 2022. 20% of proceeds from both versions will be donated to The Petfinder Foundation to support real world animal shelters.

Take charge of the local animal shelter to help stray pups find new and loving forever homes. In between belly rubs and sessions of playing fetch, ensure that the inner workings of the shelter are running properly. Foster a warm and welcoming environment for future pet parents to come and meet their soon-to-be companions.

Ensure people and puppers find their perfect fit by matching between four dog sizes, seven breed types, and dozens of individual personality traits for adopters and doggos. It’s a bittersweet day when furry friends leave the shelter, but the happiness on their faces knowing they’ve found their families warms the heart every time.

Taking care of adorable fuzzy butts isn’t all fun and games; there’s inevitably more to be done. Balance feeding, grooming, and exercise schedules for all of the dogs. Treat, pun intended, any illnesses that may arise to keep the pups in tip-top shape for the next game of tug-of-war. Manage shelter resources by upgrading facilities and replenishing inventory, all on a tight budget. Keep up good standing with other members of the neighborhood to keep the shelter support strong. It may take an army, but those fuzzy faces make it more than worth it.

To The Rescue! balances the wholesome feel of a loving and cozy animal game with some of the hectic realities of running a real animal shelter,” said Olivia Dunlap, co-founder, Little Rock Games. “We wanted to pay respect to all of the hardworking volunteers running actual animal shelters and raise awareness for their profession through the power of video games!”

To The Rescue! will be available for $19.99 USD. The development team will pledge 20% of all profits from the game to The Petfinder Foundation
