Epsom, November 15: Slitherine (Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War, Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach and Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon) and Black Lab Games (Battlestar Galactica Deadlock and Starhammer) are pleased to announce that the critically acclaimed turn-based strategy title set in Games Workshop’s world-renowned grimdark universe: Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector will launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and Games for Windows on December 2.

That’s not all: the game will be available Day One for Xbox Game Pass for Console and PC

Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector is the definitive battle-scale turn-based strategy title that takes players to the battlefields of the 41st Millennium in an epic single-player campaign that explores the aftermath of the Devastation of Baal. Sergeant Carleon and his allies must purge the Tyranid infestation on Baal Secundus, and preserve the honour of the noble Blood Angels. The gripping campaign also introduces the mighty Primaris Marines for the first time.

The console version features full achievement and trophy support, in addition to an updated UI and brand new control scheme specifically designed for consoles, giving players full tactical control when commanding the Blood Angel Space Marines in bone-rattling and soul-crushing skirmishes against the Tyranids.

Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector will be expanded over the coming months via DLC which will introduce new factions, maps and modes. The first two packs will launch on December 2 for both Console and PC, adding new elite units to the game.

The Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector – Blood Angels Elite DLC gives players access to Assault Terminators and Sanguinary Guard. The Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector – Tyranid Elites DLC adds the Broodlord and Hive Guard. The Broodlord are superior melee warriors with a natural ability for disrupting the minds of nearby prey, whereas the Hive Guard offers deadly ranged attacks, wrapped in a heavy armour of lumbering carapace.

SOCIAL DEDUCTION GAME EVILLE HEADING FOR PC STEAM EARLY ACCESS IN 2022

Magical and Murderous Intent With a Medieval Aesthetic

Denver, CO – November 15th, 2021 – Independent developer VestGames in partnership with indie publisher Versus Evil are excited to announce that their multiplayer social deduction game Eville  will be launching on PC via Steam Early Access in 2022.

A mysterious murder has taken place in the once peaceful village of Eville, and so begins a collective effort for those involved to either unmask the co-conspirators and prevent them taking over the village, or just get through the night alive. Built upon a solid foundation of deceit, slander, and manipulation, Eville casts players into randomly assigned roles with every session each with unique abilities, skills and advantages.

As Mayor you could flex your voting power and village stature, or go about setting traps for the dastardly murderer as the Trapper, or you could be investigating suspicious villagers as the Detective, or just talk smack, casting doubts and aspersions about the other players as the Slanderer. Whatever your role, there’s murderous intent afoot and someone’s responsible, it could be you or it could be someone else, utilizing your social skills is key to your survival.

Fundamental to Eville’s gameplay mechanic is its day and night cycle, during the day villagers will go about their daily lives before retiring to their cosy homes in the evening, unless of course you’re the murderer, where nightfall can be used to deadly effect, gruesomely hacking people to death in their beds while they slumber.

Players will have access to handy items and crafting abilities, spending their hard earned copper during the day on upgrades to help them survive the night or survive the devious traps by the pesky do gooders impeding another murder.

Within the quaint village map of Eville, players can find forlorn citizens who need assistance and even encounter the ghosts of the dead, Eville is not a place where dead men tell no tales and the clues to treachery and murder are still attainable.

“The Versus Evil team are huge fans of the social deduction genre. We just launched First Class Trouble 1.0 this month on PC, PS4, & PS5. Social deduction offers players a form of multiplayer gaming that connects people and invites them to engage one another in ways specific to this style of game,” said Steve Escalante, General Manager of Versus Evil.

Eville stood out to us because the talented team at VestGames have approached social deduction in a wholly unique way with its medieval RPG style, character roles, and individualized motives. It’s sure to deliver a distinctive experience full of excitement, challenge, friendships, and of course, inevitable betrayal, that we feel fans of the genre will enjoy.  We’re very excited to be working with the creative minds at VestGames, and to introduce Eville to players around the world.”To find out more about Eville and its unique spin on the social deduction game genre, head over to the game’s Steam page here.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Review

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Developer: Eidos-Montreal
Publisher: Square Enix
Platforms: Xbox Series X (Reviewed), Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, Switch
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $59.99 USD – Available Here $99.95 AUD – Available Here

Overview

When it comes to handling a massive property such as one of the Marvel’s, there is a certain amount of weight due to its popularity. This is certainly true for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy but it also happens to be the case thanks to the rather poor reception that was given to last year’s Marvel’s Avengers. This time around Eidos-Montreal has focused entirely on presenting fans with a single-player story and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy ends up being all the better for it with the final experience being one that fans of action games and of course of the Guardians themselves will be happy to dive into.

Story

Players take on the role of Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord, who was kidnapped from Earth as a child and, after many years of committing crimes, helping people, taking part in wars, and more has settled in as being the leader to the Guardians of the Galaxy, an odd group including former assassin Gamora, Drax the Destroyer who has gained infamy after slaying Thanos, the technological chaotic-genius Rocket, and a walking tree named Groot. For everyone familiar with the Guardians this is well-known territory but this time Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy moves away from anything established in the MCU and focuses instead on the comic basis of the characters while also setting up its own world mixed together with existing fiction.

The Guardians find themselves incredibly broke to the point that taking on a risky mission such as breaking into a quarantine zone sounds like a great way to make a quick buck. After things obviously go incredibly wrong, the group finds themselves with a hefty fine on their hands and very little time to pay it off before they end up being sent to jail. Going into too much detail would spoil what becomes something of a comedy of errors that sees the Guardians fumble through numerous plans only to end up being the only ones capable of saving the universe from a dangerous new threat but it can easily be said that the writing of the core cast of characters, the many side-characters and familiar faces that appear from the Guardians’ lore, and of course the plotline itself help make this game one that truly shines and has more than a few surprises up its sleeves.

In many ways Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy‘s handling of the titular cast is done exceptionally well. Rather than try and retread the origin story for every character or how the group formed, the title instead is set sometime after the group has already been together for an unknown but not long length of time. Drax has already slain Thanos and takes most things literally while still distrusting Gamora who is more open with her past trauma under Thanos while Rocket remains mostly true to form with Groot still being Groot and Peter either being a more wise-cracking or caring leader depending on how players choose to respond to in-game dialogue prompts.

It must be said that the writers really have appeared to nail the personalities of the members of the Guardians here and the same type of humor that one should expect from the series as well. The characters bicker during battles while also making quips at the enemies that they are laying waste to and if they aren’t in a fight are either making jokes at one another’s expense or bonding over a recent event during more serious moments. In fact there is so much dialogue at times that players almost want to stop progress to avoid skipping conversations as a result. It is worth noting that this isn’t always a good thing as there are only so many one-liners during fights and longer battles, or fights against recurring enemies, can see characters repeating the same lines ad nauseum at times.

This mix of personalities works as well as it ever has with the Guardians’ formula and by not focusing on the group getting together the title can freely explore the characters growing as a group and bonding as well throughout the course of the journey. Combine this with the fact that players will run into numerous other characters such as Mantis, Cosmo, and more that have all been implemented in their own unique way and there is a incredibly enjoyable story to enjoy here, especially if players track down various collectibles that unlock additional dialogue with characters back on the Milano. These interactions provide extra backstory and some enjoyable moments with Peter trying to bond more with the crew as a result.

As mentioned before, players will find that they are often given dialogue choices throughout the course of the game. Many of these dialogue choices are meaningless and simply work as back and forth between the crew as they travel through an area but often there are moments that actually play a role in how some things will play out. Certain choices can be as simple as saving the crew some extra credits while avoiding a potential fight as a result, completely change the way a mission plays out, or even unlock additional help later on in the story depending on how things are handled. This is a fairly simple way to vary things up but it does give players some extra incentive to perhaps play through the game a second time to see how some events play out, even though the core storyline will always remain the same.

Gameplay

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a third-person action adventure title that will see players taking direct control of only Star-Lord when it comes to combat although most of the time they will be joined by the rest of the Guardians. Action is handled fairly well with players usually utilizing Star-Lord’s elemental blasters to deal damage to enemies and firing off blasts of various elements to either stun foes or target potential weaknesses though melee combat is always available and a fairly fun tactic. The rest of the team battles alongside Star-Lord on their own with players being able to call on them to utilize various skills, three and eventually four per character, at will with a small cooldown afterwards.

This can lead to some incredibly hectic seeming battles as players can be battling a large number of enemies, calling Gamora to use a powerful single strike ability, Drax to pick up an object in the environment and throw it, and Groot to tie a group of foes in place all while hovering using Star-Lord’s jet-boots to shoot at foes from above. The team can help pick the player up should they fall in combat though the player will need to do the same for their allies or free them if they are entangled or frozen.

These flashy fights are great and can offer quite a lot of variety at times but that doesn’t stop things from feeling a bit repetitive eventually. This can be toned down some as the game features an incredibly useful difficulty modifying feature that can fine-tune parts of the game, such as lowering enemy health and increasing damage dealt by the player so if enemies end up feeling a bit too spongy, there is a fix for that. In fact, the customizable difficulty can even be ramped up beyond the hard level giving players as much of a challenge as they feel like taking on, giving probably the most accessibility possible without actually taking anything away as a result.

When not fighting against enemies players will find themselves exploring a fairly linear level design that has upgrade parts and collectables scattered around as well as plenty of platforming and puzzle solving areas to traverse. These puzzles tend to be rather simple but it is fun being able to command members of the team to help assist in solving them, even if it just might involve creating a branch bridge, hacking a panel, or needing an extra boost. It is worth noting that exploration also tends to be where many of the more worrying bugs can occur and while the game does have incredibly frequent checkpoints as well as multiple save slots, needing to reload simply because Peter is stuck floating on an object or an enemy hasn’t registered as dead can be rather annoying.

Visuals & Audio

With Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy players will be venturing to a number of alien locations that all have a great and unique enough look to them, though more than a few are revisited a second time around with some changes. The character designs themselves are familiar but unique enough to give the Guardians their own bit of flair for this version of the cast though players will find a large number of costumes throughout the game if they explore enough, giving players options ranging from outfits similar to their MCU counterparts, casual, Apocalyptic, and more. This level of style carries over to the flashy combat as players will rarely find themselves wanting for more when in a fight. It is worth noting that there do appear to be some optimization issues in later levels in the game however as the game will begin to stutter if played for a long time. This usually is fixed with a simple reset but it is a problem nonetheless.

Nearly all of the characters, the Guardians included, are voiced exceptionally well which is a necessity given how much everyone talks throughout the game though there is still the issue with repetitive combat dialogue. Of course any Guardians of the Galaxy entry wouldn’t be complete without a great soundtrack and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy fits that perfectly as there are tons of signature 80s songs that play throughout the game either through story moments, during power-ups that occur when Star-Lord successfully boosts his team’s morale during a huddle, or simply at will when exploring the Milano and using the radio.

Overall

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy feels like the type of action-adventure game that rarely sees the light of day anymore. It offers flashy solid combat that can be a bit repetitive at times while also telling a fantastic storyline filled with a great cast of well-written characters that, while familiar for most, can still be surprising from time to time.

Forza Horizon 5 Review

Overview

Open world racing games are a perfect way to unwind after a long day. What I usually do is that I rush through the campaign and then take my time completing all the challenges and secrets one day at a time. It’s how I got to almost 140 hours of playtime in The Crew 2. That’s what got me curious about Forza Horizon 5. This particular series has been available for PC ever since Forza Horizon 3, but the fifth installment finally branched out from Microsoft Store to Steam as well. What, I like to have all my games in one place when I can. But Forza Horizon 5 also comes with the biggest map so far, gazillion side activities, story mode, and an insane selection of cars – with more to be added along the way.

Story

The story in Forza Horizon 5 is as basic as it gets. You are one up-and-coming racer that showed a lot of promise, now you just have to show all of your drifting, racing, and points racking skills to the world. The storyline pretty much guides you through all the big sections of Mexico, teaching you about the game mechanics, showing you different play modes, and just as you finish it, that’s when the real game starts. Yeah, the story in Forza Horizon 5 is a long and glorified tutorial and that’s not a bad thing. The campaign is easy to complete, not overly long and is a good introduction to the meaty content of the game.

Gameplay

So after you’re done with the campaign, what’s the real hook of the game? Unlocks. Lots and lots of unlocks. Pretty much everything you do in Forza Horizon 5 is tied to some kind of milestone (or as they’re called here – accolades). You just did 5 drift skills in under a minute? That’s an accolade. Completed 10 street races? Accolade as well. Bought 10/20/1000 cars? That’s also an accol – yeah you get it. Some of those accolades will reward you with emotes, some with clothing pieces, and some with cars. One thing that I particularly like in Forza Horizon 5 (for a casual racing player such as me) is just how much you able to fine-tune the gameplay and driving difficulty in the game. Of course, increasing the difficulty and turning on certain gameplay options will get you more credits after the race so it is entirely up to you to find that balance. Being the veteran player of The Crew 2 I expected some trick braking and nitrous to come to my rescue in tight situations but you won’t find that sort of thing in Forza Horizon 5. Mastering the standard brake/handbrake is the key as well as being smart with acceleration. I should also mention that despite the huge catalog of cars in the game, every car feels and drives differently. Some are just horrible when it comes to braking and some have trouble decelerating in general (while being absolute beasts for acceleration). My advice is to pick a few cars; one for offroad, one for street racing, and slowly try to master them.

Visuals

Oh man, where do I even start? I’ll just say that if you bought your rig in the past 5-6 years, you should have no problems running this on high settings and above 30 fps. I don’t know what kind of voodoo folks at Playground Games did, but I’m glad that they pulled it off. Forza Horizon 5 is also the first game in the series to feature raytracing but even without it, everything looks unbelievably gorgeous. The extra spice in the game is different seasons that introduce weather conditions such as dust storms and tropical rain. The cars already look beautiful as it is, but if that isn’t enough for you, you’ll have a huge selection of user-created liveries (aka skins for cars). Some of them can be incredibly creative and even improve the default look of cars while others are just beyond hilarious. Passing the speed limit in a Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine van is something you just have to experience for yourself. What I’m also positively surprised with is a decent number of pedestrians in the game (obviously you won’t see them much in the desert areas) and a visible damage model on all cars.

Audio

Forza Horizon 5 also features a good number of radio stations so you don’t feel as lonely while cruising the beach or destroying cactuses for that one achievement. There are six radio stations in the game, each having a distinct genre of music. Do you like some classical music? Then Radio Eterna is your station of choice with other renditions of Swan Lake and Nocturne No. 2 in E-Flat Major by Chopin. And every once in a while, a DJ will put out a song that will be a “skill song”, meaning you get way more points doing all sorts of acrobatics with your car while the song is active. Pretty easy way to rank up the masteries.

Overall

With this being my first Forza game, I have to say the expectations were somewhat low but all of those bad thoughts went out the window after my first few hours of the game. Forza Horizon 5 is a game packed with more content than you can possibly expect at launch, challenges to find, areas and barns to discover and there’s always some new cars to unlock. A racing game that will keep you satisfied for a few months at least and that’s only taking the content right now into account. A few months down the road Forza Horizon 5 might evolve into something bigger and better than it already is and I’ll be there for it. You should too.

DIGITAL EXTREMES INTRODUCES PRIME RESURGENCE TO WARFRAME

DIGITAL EXTREMES INTRODUCES PRIME RESURGENCE TO WARFRAME, UNVAULTING A VAST COLLECTION OF ITS RAREST AND MOST POWERFUL PRIME WARFRAMES FOR A LIMITED-TIME ONLY AS THE NEW WAR APPROACHES THIS DECEMBER

Discover Warframe’s Thrilling All-Out-War Action and Assemble the Prime Vanguard with the Prime Resurgence to Prepare for a New War with Old Enemies this December

LONDON, Ontario – November 12, 2021 –Warframe developer Digital Extremes is inviting new and returning players to discover its free 30+ hour story-based Cinematic Quest within the critically acclaimed action game as the Canadian publisher and developer treks toward launching its next and largest expansion, The New War, on all platforms in December. Full of non-stop space action, combat, and a personal story of self-discovery, Warframe’s Cinematic Quest is a AAA developed single-player experience taking players on a journey across 16 planets with 3 Open Worlds as they work to restore balance to a fractured intergalactic ecosystem – The Origin System – left in a state of all-out war.

To prepare players for the action and threats of The New War, Digital Extremes is introducing its first-ever, massive, limited-run Prime unvaulting program, Prime Resurgence, to Warframe on November 16. Prime Resurgence gives players an opportunity to instantly unlock or earn a selection of Warframe’s rarest and most powerful Prime Warframes, the Prime Vanguard, on a rotating basis through the expansion’s release in December. An extension of Warframe’s Prime Vault program, Prime Resurgence will reward players with unprecedented access to 18 Prime Warframes and gear previously retired from Warframe’s reward tables and will bring a wealth of long-awaited content to players on all platforms.

“There has never been a better time to play Warframe,” said Digital Extremes COO Sheldon Carter. “Prime Resurgence will bring powerful Prime Warframes to players that participate, and will create an exciting experience for newcomers and Warframe collectors while preparing everyone for the launch of The New War.”

A new trailer highlights Warframe’s story so far and features a first-look at the game’s upcoming cinematic CG short teasing an old friend, now turned enemy:

The full The New War cinematic trailer will premiere during Devstream #158 on November 30 at 10 a.m. ET/ 3 pm GMT, where more unveils, giveaways, and exclusive Twitch drops will also take place.

Beginning November 16, each week Warframe players will have an opportunity to instantly unlock or earn two Prime Warframes, along with their Prime Weapons and Accessories from a new event shop located in Maroo’s Bazaar. Former Dax, Varzia, the shop’s new vendor, will help players enact the Prime Resurgence, recovering Prime Warframes who lay dormant in Orokin technology using curious new resources: Aya and Regal Aya.

The New War is Warframe’s biggest Cinematic Quest expansion in its 8-year development history and will offer players more ways to engage with its sprawling sci-fi universe. New playable characters will be added for the first time, along with new environments, threats and challenges, plus the addition of Warframe’s 48th unique Warframe into the game, all while answering longstanding questions about its bold and intimate story. Arriving in December, The New War will also introduce new Customizations, Weapons, and Accessories, giving players limitless power to look and play the way they want. Furthering its commitment to players, Digital Extremes will bring Cross Save and Cross Play features and Warframe for Mobile to players in 2022. New, existing, and returning players can jump in now and start preparing to unite opposing forces as the Tenno and heroic villains save the Origin System from the invading Sentient threat. A Warframe Quest Guide is available to help players prepare for war.

How It Works: Instantly Access or Play to Earn

A new in-game event store will be introduced to Warframe in Maroo’s Bazaar on November 16 where players can awaken the ancient Orokin Prime Vanguard by interacting with Varzia and exchanging a new curious currency, Aya and Regal Aya, for Void Relics or fully built Prime Warframes, Weapons, and Accessories:

  • Gather Aya from select missions and bounties or Purchase Regal Aya
  • Exchange Aya for Void Relics | Open Void Relics for Prime Parts
  • Exchange Regal Aya for Fully Built Prime Gear

The Prime Advantage

During unvaulting periods, Prime Warframes, Weapons, and Accessories can be instantly unlocked or earned, allowing players to tap into the power and prestige of the Prime Warframe. A Prime Warframe, Weapon, or Accessory represents technology as it was during the height of the Orokin Era and boasts superior performance and other advantages over its non-primed counterpart. Prime Warframes, in particular, offer increased base stats and additional polarity slots offering maximum customization, among other features like enhanced visual style.
