2D Action Platformer TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity Ascends from Early Access on PC, Nintendo Switch June 3

2D Action Platformer TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity Ascends from Early Access on PC, Nintendo Switch June 3

New level elements, final boss, ending, and modding features added to version 1.0

TOKYO – 23 May, 2022 – TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity, the 2D roguelike action-platformer set in a regenerating tower developed by //commentout and published by PLAYISM, ascends from Steam Early Access into version 1.0 on PC and welcomes Nintendo Switch to the climb on Tuesday, June 3, 2022.

Lead one of five heroes through their trials and tribulations as they seek escape from a shifting tower constructed from the broken remains of a forgotten world. Learn each playable character’s backstory as they climb, why the structure compelled them to enter it, and what it takes to truly escape from their repeating fate.

Each hero can only protect themselves from the tower’s many foes with screen-clearing magic skills that deal significant damage to enemies for a short time but take up to 30 seconds to recharge. Find items to reduce cooldown times, grant different effects to attacks, and help provide protection. Climb up high enough, and choose to pray to an angel or a devil capable of granting branching paths toward the tower’s apex.

Sprint through a collection of unpredictable rooms filled with chaotic traps and enemy attacks reminiscent of a bullet hell shooter. Use powerful abilities to clear out the screen and deftly dodge foes with precision platforming while the cooldown timer replenishes! Defeat bosses by mastering the ebb and flow of spellcasting and dodging, and stay alive long enough to discover the next powerful artifact. Don’t dawdle, as a karma meter begins to tick down further up the tower, with its depletion meaning certain doom.

Clear each floor with fury and finesse to earn points and soar up the daily leaderboards. Wander by gravemarkers of fellow travelers who failed their escalade and read their parting words. Perish before reaching the pinnacle and leave a helpful message for others on their attempts, or express frustration to the world from beyond the grave. Don’t get too familiar with the fortress’ surroundings; for every 24 hours a brand new tower arises, with fresh challenges within.

Veterans of the Early Access version and those entering the tower on Nintendo Switch can play the practice mode to fight bosses and earn achievements. Each day brings unseen trials, with new level elements added to the game and additional auto-generated variations for more unpredictable challenges each day. Fight a new final boss and discover the true ending to these travelers’ stories.

Steam version 1.0 also introduces an expansive new set of character customization options. Add custom skins to each of the five heroes, as well as their own dialogue, intro, and endings. PLAYISM and //commentout are collaborating with a variety of illustrators, game designers, and streamers to introduce official custom characters in a future update.

“Early Access was important for the development of TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity as player feedback influenced many of our design decisions,” said saebashi, Founder, //commentout. “I know Nintendo Switch players are ready to climb the tower alongside their Steam brethren and threaten some of our regulars atop the leaderboards!”

TOKOYO: The Tower of Perpetuity will be availablefor $11.99 on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2022, on Steam for PC and Nintendo Switch with support for English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese text. The Early Access version is available now for $9.99 on Steam, and Nintendo Switch players can preorder the game at a 20% discount.

Predecessor Paper Ghost Stories: 7PM Free on Steam for the Next Two Weeks

VANCOUVER, Canada — May 23, 2022 — Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open, the next installment and first full-sized game in an award-winning anthology of creepy tales inspired by Malaysian and Chinese myths and culture from publisher Chorus Worldwide and developer Cellar Vault Games, possesses PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC early next year.

Ting, a young Chinese-Malaysian girl, unknowingly breaches the spirit world. Everywhere she goes, the apparition of a child named Xiu follows, visible only to her. Despite her efforts to keep Xiu a secret, other children notice, quickly earning Ting notoriety as a “weird” kid. Follow Ting through pre-school and primary school as she navigates the perils of home life and the mysterious spirit world.

Third Eye Open’s gripping narrative unfolds across multiple years at locations including Ting’s troubled home, creepy campgrounds, haunted houses, and even nightmares. Speak with friends and family through a timed dialogue system simulating heated arguments and hard questions. Interact with the world through a collection of minigames ranging from assembling a barbecue platter during a camping trip to hiding from malevolent phantoms.

Rendered in a living “paper theatre” style inspired by the paper puppetry – the shadow plays – of Southeast Asia, Third Eye Open haunts and charms in equal measure. The beautiful, childlike aesthetic belies a darker story of a family falling apart, Ting’s role in its salvation, and the haunted house at the heart of it all. For added authenticity, all in-game sounds were recorded on location in Malaysia, in places such as the Taman neighborhood, local Ko Pi Tiam (coffee shops), and the Pasar Malam (night markets).

For those too excited to wait, explore the shared Paper Ghost Stories universe via 7PM. In addition to being available free on Steam until June 2nd, the game has been updated to include full controller support.43 Please note that 7PM is a short story to Third Eye Open’s novel: the former takes about one hour to complete, while Cellar Vault Games aims to make the latter approximately five to six hours long. Third Eye Open’s console release will also include 7PM.

“When we saw Cellar Vault Games’ 7PM, we knew we’d played something special,” said Shintaro Kanaoya, founder and CEO of Chorus Worldwide. “Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open takes many of the concepts that were in a fledgling form in 7PM and hugely expands upon them. We can’t wait to bring this mix of Malaysian culture, coming-of-age drama, and spine-tingling story and gameplay to fans of original adventures everywhere.”

“To bring our stories to PC and console players around the world is a dream come true,” said Benny Chan, CEO and Co-Founder of Cellar Vault Games. “We hope to be telling Paper Ghost Stories for a long time to come, sharing tales of Malaysian folklore with as many people as possible. We can’t wait for everyone to experience Ting’s adventure! “

Third Eye Open will be available on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC early next year. Courtesy of a partnership with Serenity Forge, a physical edition will be available at launch. Touken Ranbu Warriors Review

Touken Ranbu Warriors

Developer: Ruby Party , Omega Force
Publisher: KOEI TECMO AMERICA
Platforms: Nintendo Switch (Reviewed), PC
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $59.99 USD/$62.59 AUD – Available Here

Overview

Touken Ranbu Warriors is the latest spin-off of the Dynasty Warriors franchise. This popular hack and slash action series, which started in 1997, has already collaborated with many popular IPs such as One Piece or The Legend of Zelda.

Touken Ranbu is originally a free to play Japanese online game released in 2015 in Japan and last year worldwide. The all-male cast represents personified swords; the design of the characters is inspired by the swords they are based on. The series might not be well known in the West, but it has gained quite a following in Japan and has sprung multiple anime, a live-action movie, stage plays and now Touken Ranbu Warriors.

Story

Following the original Touken Ranbu story, the characters are from the future and must stop the History Retrograding Force (HRF) from changing history. To do so, they travel back in time under the directions of Kuronosuke, a speaking animal, to fight monsters and possessed humans in order to restore history.

The story is quite good, but the pacing isn’t. After finishing each mission, a small part of storyline is developed either through conversations or cutscenes. The thing is that there are a lot of missions, so I felt like it took a long time before each main event happened. The writing in itself felt unequal, especially the beginning was repetitive because the HRF almost always used the same way to change the course of the original historical timeline.

The historical aspect of the game is interesting. The battles were inspired by real life battles making the game feel more realistic.

Gameplay

The gameplay follows the typical Dynasty Warriors formula meaning that most of the time players have to fight big waves of enemies. They are multiple types of enemies, most of them are bugs or soldiers, some are a mix of both. A few rare missions have a different goal. for example the infiltration missions.

The gameplay is both simple and complex. It is really easy to start playing the game, but there’s depth to be found in finding out the best combos to fight each enemy type. Players can fight with regular attacks, special attacks and each character also has an ultimate attack. On top of all of that, there’s always two characters on the battlefield. One is controlled by the player and the other is controlled by the IA. The two characters have special attacks they can do together, and as their bond grows stronger their attack does as well. Overall, the combat is really fun.

Every time after finishing a mission players obtain materials and currency. Materials can be used to upgrade the characters’ stats or to unlock new special attacks. Meanwhile the currency can be exchanged against stat boosting items or more materials.

There are two difficulty settings, a simple one making the game easier, and which is intended for people that want to experience the story without struggling during the missions. The other difficulty setting is the regular one which unfortunately I found to be too easy. I barely struggled even during boss fights.

The game features a varied cast of characters that felt different from one another thanks to their design or their personality. When they are not on the battlefield, the characters are in a place called the “honmaru” which serves as the main menu. This concept is taken directly from the original Touken Ranbu game, and players can assign characters to each of the different rooms. The characters placed in the honmaru level up automatically after a mission is completed and when two of them are in the same room their bond level goes up as well. After two characters’ bond level up, a special conversation between them is unlocked.

Players can also play mini games in the honmaru, they appear at random times and once completed they give away currency or materials.

During the story players are limited in the choice of characters they can play as. In each chapter there’s a specific team that is dispatched and it is amongst these characters that the player can pick theirs.

Visuals

Obviously since this is a game on the Switch, the graphics are not extremely good looking. Still seeing so many enemies on screen while the game was running smoothly did impress me.

The character models look nice, and once a character has sustained a certain number of injuries there’s another model to reflect it.

Audio

The game is fully voiced even during the conversation segments. The voice acting is really good it has great delivery and fitting voices for each of the characters.

When it comes to the music, it fits perfectly the historical theme of the game, but the different tracks of the soundtrack didn’t feel distinct enough to me.

Overall

Touken Ranbu Warriors is a good game with its fair share of flaws. It will for sure appeal to both Touken Ranbu and Dynasty Warriors fans. For the people that aren’t, the game is fun but its flaws could overshadow the good parts especially when it comes to the repetitiveness of the gameplay and the slow pacing of the story.

BLADE RUNNER RPG on Kickstarter – Three Days Left

The neon noir RPG was funded in 3 minutes and has crowdfunded close to 1.5 million USD and unlocked 24 stretchgoals with three days remaining on the crowdfunding campaign

Los Angeles, CA (May 23, 2022) – Get your badges and blasters ready! Only three days remain on the Kickstarter campaign for BLADE RUNNER: THE ROLEPLAYING GAME – a neon-noir wonderland that’ll take your breath away. One way or another.

Walk the mean streets of Los Angeles 2037 in a new game from the award-winning team behind the hit ALIEN RPG. The BLADE RUNNER RPG invites you into an evocative world of conflicts and contrasts that dares to ask the hard questions and investigate the powers of empathy, the poisons of fear, and the burdens of being human during inhumane times.

Voted the #1 Most Anticipated RPG of 2022 at EN World, the BLADE RUNNER RPG campaign blew through its initial funding goal within three minutes. Now, with three days remaining, the campaign has crowdfunded  close to 1.5 million USD and unlocked 24 stretchgoals.

The BLADE RUNNER RPG on Kickstarter
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/blade-runner-the-roleplaying-game
The Kickstarter campaign will wrap up on Thursday, May 26 at 9:00 PM CEST.

Set in the year 2037, the adventures begin shortly after the Wallace Corporation debuts the new Nexus-9 Replicants on Earth, giving players the choice to play as either human or Replicant Blade Runners with different specialties, personalities, and memories.

Beyond the core casework, the game will both in setting and mechanics showcase key themes of Blade Runner – sci-fi action, corporate intrigue, existential character drama, and moral conflict.

As a member of the LAPD’s Rep-Detect Unit, you’ll face impossible choices and find beauty and humanity in the stubborn resilience to keep fighting. To persevere through pain. To agonize over itches you can’t scratch. To do questionable and extraordinary things.

Other than that, it’s just a normal day on the force, so get to work and grab some noodles on the way. That stack of cases won’t crack itself. It’s a shame you won’t live long enough to solve them all. But then again, who does?

The rules of the game are based on the acclaimed Year Zero Engine, used in award-winning games such as the official ALIEN RPG, Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying, Tales From the Loop and Forbidden Lands, but further developed and uniquely tailored for BLADE RUNNER.

Tomas Härenstam, Free League co-founder and lead game designer of the ALIEN RPG, fills the same role for the BLADE RUNNER RPG. Original artwork comes from lead ALIEN RPG artist Martin Grip, with Joe LeFavi of Genuine Entertainment is serving as the lead setting writer, brand manager, and producer on the game series.

World Turtles, a wholesome colony builder on the back of a giant space turtle, is soon available for PC

World Turtles, a wholesome colony builder on the back of a giant space turtle, is soon available for PC

Help us shape the destiny of the World Turtles – be a part of the journey until its full launch in August – Please, help us save our turtle. It means the world to us…

Pretoria, South Africa, 23/05/2022 – World Turtles is a wholesome colony builder made by a solo developer Gideon Griebenow from South Africa as the main ingredient of the nerdiest mid-life crises he’s aware of. It is the game he’s always wanted to make. He had a clear vision in his mind – create a world on a giant space turtle.

It still feels ‘Unreal’ to me, although it was ‘Made with Unity’, that the passion project I started out of nerdy interest has actually become such a reality, with enough support and appeal, to warrant pursuing it full-time in exchange for my career of two decades!”, says Gideon Griebenow, All-Round Tinkerer of Re: cOg Mission.

“I am happy to invite you all to follow my game’s journey to the upcoming launch and help save the turtle! Today, May 23rd also happens to be World Turtle Day, which is about encouraging human action to protect and help endangered turtles to survive and thrive in their ecosystems. Therefore, I would like to invite everyone to be mindful and help save the turtles in real life as well.” – encourages Gideon

World Turtles is a wholesome strategy game which includes working with the AI realms to interact with the World, the Turtle and Space itself in a way that ensures the Turtle’s, and the Meeps’, survival. Will you find peaceful, sustainable means of existing in harmony with your world and neighboring Meeps, rather than heartlessly exploiting or conquering one and all? Will you navigate the forces of nature, learn how they work and harness their power to affect progress without destruction? Will you be a part of the journey?

Key Game Features:

  • Set on, and actually involving, a huge turtle floating through space.
  • The Turtle’s position in space impacts life on the Turtle, including climate and water levels.
  • Separate technology trees per building type, coupled with an overall technology tree.
  • Meeps require balanced experience to progress.
  • The need to plan ahead and be willing to wait for your decisions to bear fruit.
  • Conquer land, water, air and space… together… for good.

The game beat out around 5400 other games to win the #PitchYaGame Industry Pick in June of 2021, and support in terms of wishlists and community feedback has been steadily growing.

World Turtles will be available on Steam in August – be sure to put it on your wishlist today to keep up with the progress and soon coming release.

About Re: cOg Mission:
Gideon Griebenow, Re: cOg Mission’s solo developer, joined the game development party quite late in life after obtaining a PhD in Credit Risk Analysis, spending 10 years in that arena and subsequently founding his own consultancy business. And then, three years later, he watched a Unity tutorial, and World Turtles slowly but surely took center stage, until taking over completely. What he finds most appealing about game development is also one of the hardest things about it: the extensive variety of skills, knowledge, experience and involvement required to bring everything together into a meaningful, enjoyable whole that can teleport you to somewhere else for a while. There’s certainly no room for being disinterested!

Taking a tiny island to the world stage – Tchia celebrates with new gameplay footage

Set Sail on an Open-world Tropical Adventure Coming Early 2023

[London, 23 May, 2022] – Independent game studio, Awaceb (Fossil Echo), and Kepler Interactive, today shared a new gameplay mini-feature showcasing ocean exploration in the upcoming tropical adventure, Tchia, releasing in early 2023 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and EPIC Games Store.

The genuine love the Awaceb team have for New Caledonia, homeland of Awaceb’s co-founders, is overflowing in this gameplay snippet with its emphasis on cruising the glistening blue waters that surround the island, exploring the ocean depths and traversing the waterway of a beautiful archipelago . The art style, colour palettes and music come together to create something incredibly heartwarming and welcoming.

Away from the water, Tchia also draws inspiration from the flora and fauna of New Caledonia to create a charming open-world to explore – take control of almost any animal or object you can find, or jam on your fully playable Ukulele!

Tchia will be moving to an early 2023 release to give the development team more time to realise their creative vision. See HERE for a message from the Awaceb team.

Tchia will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and EPIC Games Store. For more information please visit https://www.awaceb.com/tchia.
