While many may have initially taken it as an April Fool’s joke, it turns out that Neko Works’ dog based game, Inupara: Dog’s Paradise has been officially announced by Sekai Project at Anime Expo 2022 with character profiles revealed for all of the main girls that will be in the game. No release date nor platforms were given for Inupara at the time of the announcement but past Nekopara games have released on PC, usually with adult content, before releasing on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms without the aforementioned content.
In Inupara players will take on the role of a college student that works as a part-time pet groomer and awakes one day to find that his world has changed as all dogs are now dog girls, including those he has watched over for their whole lives.
Alongside this announcement Sekai Project also revealed that they will be bringing Nekopara After – La Vraie Famille to English audiences. The title takes place after the events of the fourth volume of Nekopara and focuses on Fraise and Shigure. Fraise has a fondness towards Kashou but becomes bewildered in the face of his six catpanions. She turns to Shigure for advice but she too harbors a hidden love towards him. Fraise feels that the relationship between siblings is most important while Shigure feels the happiness of her catgirls is what is most important.
Project Warlock II is a shooter game. It’s the sequel to the first Project Warlock game that came out in 2018. Both games have the same goal: to recreate the atmosphere of older FPS titles such as Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, or Quake. Like its prequel, a Kickstarter campaign is funding Project Warlock II.
The game looks like an older game with its pixelated environments and enemies. The graphics look nice and mix 3D backgrounds with 2D sprites. The game can be gory, with some weapons so powerful that they blow enemies out.
As of now, there isn’t much of a storyline. This early access version only has one chapter, split into different levels called “missions.” The final game is supposed to feature three chapters, each set in distinct worlds with different protagonists.
Every level has a similar progression system. Most of the gameplay revolves around players killing waves of enemies. But they also have to collect keys to open doors and advance in the map. At the end of every level, there’s always a boss fight. Each boss has a particular pattern. The fights aren’t very complex, especially after understanding when to dodge their attacks. Still, they are harder to beat than regular enemies.
The levels are huge and feel distinct from one another, thanks to varied environments and diverse map layouts. In every level, secret items can be discovered adding another small challenge for players looking to fully complete Project Warlock II.
The gameplay is fast, nervous, and fluid. This fluidity mostly comes from how quick changing from one weapon to another is. The movement, such as jumping or running across the map, is very energetic. The game is a good way to let off steam, thanks to its aggressive nature. The gameplay is easy to understand but can be hard to master, especially at the highest difficulty level. As of now, two difficulty levels are available.
During each level, a combo score is calculated after multiple enemies are killed in a row. This is a way to encourage players to kill enemies quickly. At the end of every level, a recap with statistics is shown. These statistics include the number of enemies killed, how much damage the player took, how long it took the player to finish the level, and other similar numbers. This recap increases the replayability because it creates an incentive to play the level again and have better stats at the end.
Many weapons are available in the game. Some of them can be found in the levels themselves, and others can be exchanged in shops that are spread throughout the maps. Almost all of the weapons are firearms. In this early build, I found the few hand weapons to be quite useless compared to the guns. I didn’t use them a lot, especially since there was enough ammo for me to never run out of it.
On top of the weapons, the game has abilities that can be unlocked as players progress through the levels. There are three abilities: the first is the ability to have two weapons on hand instead of one, the second is being able to freeze enemies, and the last is the ability to throw fire. The abilities are time-limited and can only be used for a few seconds. After use, there’s always a cooldown of about one minute. Thankfully, this cooldown can be decreased by using a special cooldown reduction item, sometimes found after killing enemies. These abilities are mostly useful against big waves of enemies and bosses.
There are different types of enemies, from skeletons and spiders to demons and giant robots throwing rockets. The enemies have various designs, but they also feel different by the way they behave. They don’t all attack the same way some have short range attacks while others have long range attacks. They also don’t have the same speed with some being faster than others. With each level, new enemies are always introduced. During the fighting phases, which constitute most of the game, there are a lot of enemies on screen. Unfortunately, when there are many enemies, and they are close to the camera, it often looks like pixelated chaos, making it hard to distinguish things.
The music is what one would expect in this type of game. It’s up-beat and nervous heavy metal. It goes well with the gameplay. An effort was made to make a soundtrack that fits every single level’s atmosphere. The enemies make distinct sounds, and the main character has some voice lines. These are all in low quality on purpose once again to bring back the feeling of classic shooters.
Recommended: Project Warlock II is a polished and fun-to-play homage to classic FPS titles.

For more than 20 years, the studio has been a driving force behind some of the most successful games in the industry, including Gears of War, Mass Effect 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Bulletstorm, Unreal Tournament III, Unreal Tournament 2004, and the award-winning sports-action hit, Rocket League®. Psyonix joined the Epic Games family in 2019.
On July 1st, 2022, CD PROJEKT RED celebrates its 20th anniversary, marking two decades since the studio entered the video game development scene and began work on the first entry into The Witcher series of games.
After seeing success in the realms of video game distribution and localization, CD PROJEKT turned its attention to the development of its own game which led to the creation of CD PROJEKT RED, a video game development studio, and official announcement of that fact on July 1st, 2002.
In the twenty years since, CD PROJEKT RED has become a global industry name. The Witcher series of games — highlighted by 2015’s critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — has sold over 65 million copies, with development on an all new mainline The Witcher game having recently been announced, as well. Cyberpunk 2077, the studio’s latest release, has also become a globally recognized franchise, spawning its own anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, created in collaboration with Studio Trigger and premiering on Netflix in September 2022. Currently CDPR is also working on the expansion for the game, to be released in 2023.
Looking back on the past 20 years, Head of Studio Adam Badowski said:
When we started CD PROJEKT RED, we didn’t know what you can and can’t do in the video game industry. We were rebels from the get-go, and we had to learn everything ourselves. That gave us the freedom to develop our games our way, and that distinct and personal approach has formed the core of our DNA — which you can see has shaped our games. These last twenty years have been exciting and fruitful for us, unpredictably so, and we are extremely proud of our achievements and the fact that we can constantly count on the support of our community. That in particular is something we all cherish here, and it is with this positivity and optimism we head into our twenty-first year and beyond.
The studio is focusing much of its anniversary celebrations around its passionate community. CD PROJEKT RED has held a close relationship with players since day one, and it is thanks to their support over the years that the studio is where it is today. Gamers have always been at the core of CDPR’s work and mission statement, and the recently announced 20th anniversary celebrations are the studio’s way of sharing this special occasion with its equally special community.
To that end, the studio has launched its own 20th anniversary website which invites community members to share their own memories of CD PROJEKT RED and its games via photographs, screenshots, artwork — and more. Gamers can upload their memories to the Birthday Gallery, and share this momentous milestone with both the studio and community members from all around the world.
Over the next few months, regular streams of CD PROJEKT RED games will be hosted on the 20th anniversary website, with studio members taking the audience on trips down memory lane every Wednesday, starting from July 6th. Visitors to the website will also be able to learn studio trivia, take part in challenges — and win prizes — and more.
CD PROJEKT RED is a game development studio founded in 2002. It develops and publishes video games for personal computers and video game consoles. The studio’s flagship titles include The Witcher series of games, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and the futuristic AAA role-playing game — Cyberpunk 2077. Together with GOG.COM, a game store offering hand-picked titles for PC and Mac, CD PROJEKT RED is part of the CD PROJEKT Capital Group. CD PROJEKT S.A. is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (ISIN: PLOPTTC00011).

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Lost Ruins – which is touted by its developer as a “survival 2D side-scroller” – was first released on PC more than a year ago. Lost Ruins bears a striking resemblance to Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight in its visuals, gameplay – albeit with a slower pacing – and monster girl centric themes. As part of its Kickstarter stretch goals, Lost Ruins was also recently released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch consoles along with some additional modes that enhance the game’s replayability.
Story
Lost Ruins story begins when an amnesiac schoolgirl awakens inside a dungeon located in what appears to be another world. This is a very overused trope in anime known as “isekai.” After wandering for a bit, the protagonist encounters a witch that informs the girl that she was summoned by some kind of cult to serve as sacrifice for the revival of the “Dark Lady.” The heroine’s only chance at surviving – and possibly getting back to her own world – is to defeat the members of this supposed cult so the spell can be undone.
Along her journey the nameless girl will encounter all sorts of messages left behind by other not so fortunate schoolgirls that give a bit more of insight on what kind of mess she got herself into. Other NPCs will ask for the heroine’s assistance which will trigger some more dialogues. Then, there are the so-called followers of the Dark Lady which at first glance are just other lost schoolgirls but with some loose screws.
Regardless, the story is pretty barebones with dialogues that try and fail to be funny or interesting. There are a couple of different endings and even a bonus mode that expands on the game’s lore and its characters. Even then, it’s not enough to hold my attention.
Gameplay
At first glance, Lost Ruins plays like your typical 2D metroidvania with players navigating through a 2D side scrolling environment while battling enemies, collecting items and solving some simple puzzles to advance. Right off the bat, players can choose between five different types of difficulty. The Recommended difficulty is, well, recommendable since harder modes will lock out some gameplay features and are best reserved for a second or third run.
Differently from most traditional metroidvanias, the game’s pacing is deliberately slow. There is no dash or run button or any other manner of maneuvering besides a simple jump and an evading roll. The player can make use of two slots for weapons and two more for spells. There’s no basic attribute enhancements since the game doesn’t use a character leveling system. You can, however, enhance your HP or MP among other stats; this is done by equipping a piece of armor or an artifact in the appropriate slot.
The sheer amount of weapons, spells and equipment available enables the player to approach combat as they see fit; you can make a variety of combat builds focusing on spell casting, debuff infliction, raw physical damage or even mix things a bit. If you’re someone like me, you’ll want to experiment with builds as much as possible, but that’s very cumbersome to do. The game uses an archaic item management system which consists of opening a menu and swapping equipped items one by one. This adds an unnecessary layer of tedium, as this could be simply resolved by just adding slots where you could save your builds and a simple shortcut button to swap between loadouts as necessary.
Another point of contention in Lost Ruins is its lack of balance in regards to its combat. It’s commonplace to enter an area, take a hit from an enemy that inflicts some life-draining debuff, and then have a flying enemy that you didn’t see coming land the final blow. This isn’t much of a hindrance to progression as it’s irritating since there are a lot of checkpoints throughout the map. The same can’t be said about bosses as many of them are easily defeated. Even then, the game is still a fun little romp. There’s enough exploration and platforming to be had here, and the areas are varied enough for a game such as this one.
Visuals
Lost Ruins is entirely crafted using pixels with the exception of some CG art depicting the characters when they talk. The graphics are mostly pleasing to the eyes but a bit on the pixelated side. Sometimes it can get a bit confusing discerning traps from harmless background scenery, but nothing that gets in the way too much. The characters are mostly rendered with very simple pixel art, and they are also crudely animated with few exceptions. It’s kind of a mixed bag at some points, but it’s well done enough, especially when you consider the low-budgeted indie nature of the game. The most notable graphic prowess in Lost Ruins comes in the form of huge bosses that have very well defined sprites and excellently animated female “bouncy bits,” if you catch my drift. There are other sexually suggestive nuances spread throughout the game but it all feels much more comical than anything else.
Audio
Lost Ruins overall sound design is what you’d expect from a pixel indie game. The sound effects are nothing special, but they have enough quality to convey the weight of a heavy weapon hitting something for example. The soundtrack features some pleasant compositions that change from adventurous to ominous depending on the area that you’re currently exploring. Overall, the sound design adds positively to the experience.
Overall
Even though I had enough fun playing Lost Ruins, it’s impossible to ignore its many drawbacks. More avid 2D action/exploration fans should at least give Lost Ruins a try, as there is a demo currently available on consoles. Players looking for something more polished may want to look elsewhere.

In the third episode of Sonic Origins Speed Stratsbelow, SEGA dives into how Sonic met Amy Rose, a kind-hearted and cheerful hedgehog who likes mystical things and fortune telling, as he tries to stop Dr. Eggman from destroying Little Planet and stealing its Time Stones. In order to get the Time Stone in each special stage, players must defeat all of the UFOs within the time limit. Time decreases if Sonic touches water, so do your best to avoid it!
