THE UNFORGETTABLE HORROR OF PROJECT ZERO: MASK OF THE LUNAR ECLIPSE RETURNS TO HAUNT CONSOLES AND PC IN EARLY 2023

0

With Only a Flashlight and the Camera Obscura In-Hand, Will You Survive the Mountain of Death?

Hertfordshire, 28th October 2021 – Today, KOEI TECMO Europe is proud to announce the revival and remastering of their classic Japanese horror adventure PROJECT ZERO: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, available digitally for Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC via Steam® in Early 2023. The original game, released exclusively in Japan in 2008 for the Nintendo Wii®, has been one of KOEI TECMO’s most requested remasters for over a decade, and this will mark the first time PROJECT ZERO: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse will be available to play, not only across Europe, but across multiple consoles and PC.

PROJECT ZERO: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse takes place a decade after five girls mysteriously disappeared at a festival on Rōgetsu Isle, an island in southern Japan. While all of the girls were eventually rescued, their memories were lost, with only the faint remembrance of a single melody and a seemingly possessed masked woman dancing in the moonlight. Now, ten years later, with still no memory of the events surrounding their disappearance, two of the five girls have died — discovered with covered faces and found in a tragic, crying pose. The remaining three girls now head off to the eerie island to solve the mystery of their friends’ death, while also unlocking the mystery of the memories left behind.

As the girls explore the western-style mansions and abandoned hospitals on Rōgetsu Isle, they will rely on the moonlight and a faint flashlight to search for clues. The story progresses by discovering relics like old newspaper articles and notes that help the girls unravel the island’s secret past. While exploring, the girls will also be confronted by a series of spirits. They will need to use a Project Zero franchise classic, the Camera Obscura, to repel vengeful ghosts, sealing away their power by photographing them. Throughout the game, the girls will need to equip stronger lenses and change out different films in order to capture the most powerful spirits, while also using the camera to capture “things that cannot be seen” to help them find the evidence they need to remember their haunting past.

The remastered game features an all-new Photo Mode, along with new and altered costumes, and enhanced graphics including the improved rendering of shadows and light, delivering a more immersive and frightening experience. In addition, in-game movies and character models have been brushed-up to deliver a story that shines, both narratively and aesthetically as the three remaining girls attempt to rediscover their past before becoming victims once again.

Critically Acclaimed Beat ‘Em Up Sifu is Bashing its Way Onto Nintendo Switch This Year

Take your Kung-Fu quest for revenge on the go

PARIS (Sept. 13, 2022) – During today’s Nintendo Direct, Sifu developer and publisher Sloclap revealed that the game of the year contender is making a long-awaited trip to the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 8, 2022. Starting today, fans of the Kung-Fu-packed brawler can pre-order digitally from the Nintendo eShop or physically from select retailers with a limited Vengeance or Redemption Edition to choose from.

The Redemption Edition, available to pre-order physically now, features a SteelBook copy of the game for the Nintendo Switch, as well as a figurine, pendant of tenacity, lithograph set and a 160-page ‘Behind the Art of Sifu’ developer’s diary.

Sifu places players in the shoes of a Pak Mei Kung-Fu student who has spent their life training for a day of reckoning after the brutal murder of their entire family by a mysterious assassination squad. With just one day and countless enemies in their way, players must beat insurmountable odds and defeat members of the powerful organization to claim revenge. However, on such a quest for vengeance, time is the price paid. With a magical talisman to revive players after death, defeat doesn’t spell the end. Though the student always comes back, the cost of magic is dear, however, and they will age significantly every time they come back to life.

Following its debut on PlayStation consoles and PC in February, Sifu was hailed as one of 2022’s early GOTY contenders surpassing more than 1 million copies sold in its first three weeks and garnering critical acclaim. Sloclap’s support of Sifu has been extensive, with two updates having launched throughout this year that added difficulty modes, a long list of exciting gameplay modifiers, new outfits and more. All update content added to Sifu to date will be available to players on Switch upon launch.

Sifu launches on Nintendo Switch on Nov. 8, 2022.

Destroy All Humans 2! Reprobed Review

Destroy All Humans 2! Reprobed

Developer: Black Forest Games
Publisher: THQ Nordic
Platforms: Xbox Series X (Reviewed), PlayStation 5, PC
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $39.99 USD – Available Here $59.95 AUD – Available Here

Overview

If someone had mentioned that the Destroy All Humans franchise would be seeing something of a revival over a decade past the last game’s release, many would have doubted them. However, now we have not only a remake of the first game in the series released two years ago but THQ Nordic and Black Forest Games have continued their efforts in the game’s sequel, Destroy All Humans 2! Reprobed. So now that Crypto’s journey continues, should those looking for some over-the-top sci-fi violence check it out?

Story

The year is 1969 and a decade has passed since the events of Destroy All Humans! and Cryptosporidium-137 is dead. That doesn’t matter however as how and what happened aren’t even mentioned but, Cryptosporidium-138, a direct clone, has been just as eager as his predecessor to continue his work on Earth. In fact, this latest Crypto happens to have one certain advantage over his previous version and that is the fact that he has “The Package.” Thanks perhaps to the pure Furon DNA obtained on Earth, Crypto now has been revived with fully working genitalia, something of a first for his alien species in quite some time.

With “The Package” toting alien now roaming the streets of Bay City and keeping the American public under control, the Soviet KGB are prepared to take action against both Crypto and the mothership housing his partner Orthopox 13. With a nuclear strike destroying the mothership and the KGB attacking him directly on the streets of Bay City, Crypto alongside a now digitized Pox is ready to take the fight back against Russia and get some revenge, make plenty of lewd jokes, and numerous pop culture references along the way.

Now with Destroy All Humans 2! Reprobed the developers have placed a warning at the beginning of the game that while the game has seen significant visual upgrades, that the story has been left untouched. Whether this is simply to assure players that the story hasn’t changed or as a warning that some things said back in 2006 might be a bit more offensive now but if it was the latter, it likely won’t serve as too much of an issue. This is mostly due to the fact that, outside of some overdone accents, the majority of the humor comes in the form of Crypto’s biting words at the humans he is talking with as a whole or plenty of lewd innuendo. Oddly enough considering the game features anal probes as weaponry, the humor is fairly tame but almost always surprising for those unfamiliar with the games as players never really know what will happen the next time Crypto opens his mouth.

It is also nice to note that although the story is on the shorter side, there are more characters worked into the storyline this time around and play off Crypto just as well as in the first game. This includes a rogue KGB agent that Crypto is not-so-subtly into, a James Bond style character, and more. This does come with the trade-off that Pox is unfortunately not as vocal this time around but for the most part the dialogue remains one of the key elements as to what makes Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed worth playing, especially since the sci-fi and crazy elements don’t quite reach the same levels found in the first game but still feels right at home as a sci-fi B-movie homage.

Gameplay

In many ways Destroy All Humans 2! Reprobed still feels like a game from 2006, all jank included. This includes everything from how it plays to the design of the small open world stages players will explore. Thankfully combat is one area that is as smooth and enjoyable as ever as players make use of Crypto’s wide array of alien weaponry to defeat anything standing in his way, be it a Zap-O-Matic that sends electric arcs into groups of enemies, Dislocator that bounces enemies and vehicles into a broken mess, or of course the anal probes. This doesn’t even touch upon his ability to simply use telekinesis to grab items and enemies and throw them across the map or use them as a battering ram or flying around in the saucer to lay waste to blocks of the city with giant lasers and abduction beam. These wide range of abilities and weaponry make for a great time when it comes to combat, at least most of the time as some boss battles end up as rather bland encounters.

When not blasting away at KGB agents or other enemies, Crypto must occasionally sneak around highly secure locations or to interact with certain characters. To do this, he now has access to the Body Snatch ability that temporarily allows the player to possess an NPC and interact with various objects in the world that Crypto otherwise cannot. This can also be used to help avoid the authorities during higher wanted levels or call the police off of an area though it is worth noting that, outside of the fun “Free Love Ray,” players cannot use a weapon while in disguise and should they come under attack will either need to run away or ditch the body and enter the fight.

As players progress through the game and complete various story missions they will obtain various currencies that can be used to upgrade Corvo’s personal arsenal as well as his ship, with even more obtained should they complete optional objectives during said missions. This allows players to build their character a little bit to make the most out of their favorite weaponry. It is worth noting that there are various side missions that players can also undertake outside of the storyline but many of these are a bit on the strange side even for a Destroy All Humans! game.

Unfortunately outside of the various missions that players will take on, the relatively small open world locations that players travel between through the game are incredibly empty when it comes to content. Oddly enough, a lot of attention to detail has been placed into designing many areas that players will only see if they go hunting for the various collectibles that scatter each zone or take on a challenge that will unlock an extra UFO landing spot. In fact, most areas have a sparse amount of NPCs traveling around despite the game releasing only on next-gen platforms with only a large number of NPCs appearing in certain locations or during fights.

Visuals & Audio

Although the various levels of jank remain the same from the 2006 release, the same cannot be said about how solid Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed looks now that it has been given a complete workover. The designs of the environment and locations players travel through are nicely detailed while the character models are both nicely upgraded and great caricatures of B-movie level sci-fi, especially in the case of Crypto and a few major boss designs.

Thankfully Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed has been released with the same intact voice work from the original game only improved upon to sound far better than it ever did in the original. This means that the voice acting of Grant Albrecht as Crypto and Richard Horvitz as Pox remains as strong as ever with Crypto doing his best Jack Nicholson impression and Pox sounding basically like Invader Zim in the best ways possible. As for the soundtrack, the game features an impressive collection of licensed music as well as some original tracks with more songs available for unlocking hidden throughout various levels.

Overall

Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed may still have some of the jank that comes from a game originally released on the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox but has been improved in numerous areas to make for a mostly fun time. The combat can be great at times thanks to Crypto’s varied arsenal and the dialogue is as outstanding as ever inside of an unfortunately short storyline that has its moments but fails to be as impressive as its predecessor. As such, Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed comes across as far more polished and fun but still lacking in various regards, mostly due to its origins.

God of War Ragnarok Family Portrait Series featuring guest artists announced

0

In God of War Ragnarök, the relationship between Kratos and Atreus is the heart of what defines the game’s story. Though they are the central family, there are many others across the Nine Realms that will also place their marks on how the events leading towards Ragnarök unfold.

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio are very happy to announce a new collaborative partnership that will feature five immensely talented artists who capture a selection of the most prominent relationships in the story with their unique styles in the God of War Ragnarök Family Portrait Series.

Over the next five weeks, Santa Monica Studio will be releasing one of the portraits every Tuesday.

Drew Merritt – The Bear and the Wolf

Drew Merritt is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, California. Working across a variety of mediums, his style blends classic realism that captures the emotional nuance of the subjects.

Drew has painted the heroes of our story, Kratos and Atreus, for his work – focusing on the core family of God of War Ragnarök.

“The complexity of the storyline and characters is hands down what really wrapped me into this project. I’ve also always loved Norse mythology and try to tie it into my work as much as possible, which basically made this franchise a dream for me to work with.”

Portrait Reveal: Tuesday, September 13

Emma Ríos – The Dwarves

Emma Ríos is a Spanish comic book artist and illustrator whose cover art has earned her a 2020 Eisner Award and has worked with many of the heavy hitters in the comic book industry. Her style organically blends environments and subjects into fluid compositions with a whimsical, colourful quality.

Emma’s work focuses on the Huldra Brothers, Brok and Sindri, alongside two dwarves you will meet during your journey in God of War Ragnarök.

“I enjoy action and hack and slash games, so it was easy for me to find it appealing. The last game, God of War (2018), has a touching story that plays very smoothly and has beautiful art direction.”

Portrait Reveal: Tuesday, September 20

Romina Tempest – Heroes of Midgard

Romina Tempest is an illustrator and character designer who worked with Santa Monica Studio on B is for Boy, an illustrated retelling of the events in God of War (2018). Her cartoon style captures the heart and expression of her subjects with dynamic backgrounds that create a scene that draws you into the moment of the scene.

Romina’s piece will feature the found family that Kratos and Atreus have gathered to them on their travels through the Nine Realms.

“I’ve been playing God of War ever since it first hit the PlayStation in the early 2000s. What originally appealed to me was the combination of the hack and slash genre (my absolute favourite genre at the time thanks to games like Devil May Cry) which paired so well with fantastical characters and creatures from Greek Mythology.

What really struck me at the time was the scale of everything, from the creatures, which were often physically huge and fantastical to the plot and orchestral score.”

Portrait Reveal: Tuesday, September 27

Jae Lee – Mother and Son

Jae Lee is a legendary comic book artist with award-winning work for many of the biggest names in comics. His style captures movement, light, and emotional depth in high contrast portraiture that lend to his expertise on adeptly conveying the headspace of even the most complicated characters.

Jae has captured a mother’s grief and vengeance in his portrait of Freya and her lost son, Baldur.

“As an artist, I appreciate the sheer skill involved in building a world like [God of War]. These games represent a lot of blood, sweat, and tears that the people that built this up from nothing have sacrificed for us so that we can escape the suffering of our daily lives for just a little bit.”

Portrait Reveal: Tuesday, October 4

Sui Ishida – The Aesir

Sui Ishida is a Japanese manga artist behind the massive hit Tokyo Ghoul series. His stylistic approach melds a painterly aesthetic to traditional manga elements. His use of colour brings a soft, almost dreamlike quality to his portrait work.

Ishida’s piece focuses on the Aesir, the most powerful family in the Nine Realms led by Odin, the All-Father.

“It’s a long-running series, and the setting changed a great deal from the last instalment, so I think that part of God of War’s appeal is in how players can embark from the latest game and also dip into the series’ past and explore the series’ world.

Also, I’ve been interested in mythology for a long time and do a lot of reading about it, so for me, seeing how the various gods feature as characters in the games is something else fun that God of War offers.”
