Metroidvania and RPG elements combine in the ruined world of Engardin

Walnut Creek, Calif (Dec. 22, 2022) – Modus Games and Aurogon Shanghai revealed today during the Nintendo’s Inside the House of Indies: Holiday Event the release date for the gorgeous, fully hand-drawn Afterimage. The 2D action-adventure title is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on April 25, 2023. The news was accompanied with a brand-new trailer showcasing the world of Engardin and the array of fantastical creatures that inhabit it:

Years after the cataclysm called “The Razing” nearly brought an end to human civilization, mystic forces suddenly assaulted mankind’s remaining settlements. Seeking to investigate these attacks, an amnesiac girl named Renee bid farewell to her destroyed village and embarked on her journey to discover the truth, inexplicably setting into motion a series of events that will determine the fate of the new world.

Afterimage combines its unique, hand-drawn aesthetic with deep RPG elements and a Metroidvania-like world to challenge its players to explore and traverse the land of Engardin. Explore treacherous environments, defeat challenging bosses, and uncover the secrets holding Engardin and its various inhabitants together.

The non-linear world of Engardin allows players to explore at their own pace. With over 200 pieces of equipment to collect, 6 different weapon classes to master and talent points to invest in multiple diverse skills, Afterimage allows players to take control of their own journey.
