Relive the 23rd World Tournament in DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT’s new DLC out now

DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT expands the story with DLC 5 available today and lets players experience a storyline coming straight from Goku’s youth.

Taking place during the 23rd World Tournament, as shown during the last episode of the Dragon Ball anime, this DLC will invite players into the arena for an intense competition to relive epic fights referencing the original work.

Watch the latest chapter of Dragon Ball unfold, in the new trailer for DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT DLC 5:

In the arena however, since the story takes place before the events of Dragon Ball Z, each of the characters’ abilities will match the manga’s storyline: players are limited in ki usage and cannot fly during fights! They will have to use their skills and be resourceful to win the World Tournament. While they can enjoy the main fights within the arena, they are also able to explore their surroundings, discover new side quests, and unlock more exclusive content from the game.

DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, and compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Kill It With Fire 2 adds Red Vs. Blue, RWBY Writer to the Team, Transcends the Cosmos with a Multiversal Story in 2024

Early Access starts in early 2024

SEATTLE — August 16, 2023 — Kill It With Fire 2, the sci-fi inspired sequel to the first-person spider-hunter from developer Casey Donnellan Games and publisher tinyBuild has added writer Miles Luna (RWBY, Red vs. Blue, Camp Camp, Slave Zero X) to the writing team.

The original Kill It With Fire was heavy on the spiders and a little lighter on the lore, but with three times more story content than the original game and top-secret audio logs throughout the multiverse, Kill It With Fire 2 is keeping Miles busy delivering a multiverse-spanning story of galactic proportions.

For starters, the writing is being turned into immersive audio logs by voiceover artists including the highly talented Andy Cortez (Kinda Funny, The Monster Under My Bed). When the Steam Early Access debuts in early 2024, players can expect a vast array of brand-new levels, features, and weapons from the get-go.

“Working with Miles on fleshing out the world of Kill It With Fire 2 has been a pleasure. He’s taken some of the game’s crazy settings and concepts, woven them together with an interesting backstory, and populated them with fascinating and hilarious characters. I also can’t wait for players to hear from Miles, Andy, and a cast of other great voice actors in the game’s audio logs,” said Casey Donnellan, solo developer of the Kill It With Fire franchise and genuine arachnophobe.

In Kill It With Fire 2, spiders have broken the space-time continuum and spread across the galaxy, and only Earth’s mightiest exterminators can wipe them out. Suit up, brush up on those spider-slayin’ skills, and launch an expedition across time and space. Dawn the mantle of exterminator and journey through countless dimensions to quash the multi-legged mayhem. Set foot in dark, infested space stations or hop through a portal into the deserts of the wild west.

“Casey and I had fun weaving an intricate web of Easter eggs and storylines for players to discover should they seek them out. At the end of the day, though, the most hilarious and memorable moments are going to come from the players whom Casey has happily armed to the teeth and turned loose as a bull in an interdimensional china shop.,” Said Miles Luna, feverous with excitement.

Kill It With Fire 2 launches on PC via Steam Early Access in early 2024. A full release on PC, PlayStation 4|5, and Xbox Series X|S is expected for late 2024.

Blasphemous II Review

Blasphemous II

Developer: The Game Kitchen
Publisher: Team 17
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox Series X, PC (Reviewed)
Release Date: 24 August 2023
Price: $29.99 USD / $44.95 AUD – Available Here and Available Here

Overview

Back in 2019, Spanish game developer The Game Kitchen and publisher Team 17 released Blasphemous. It turned some heads because of its twisted and brutal religion-inspired imagery that was rendered in beautiful pixel art.

Blasphemous is a 2D action-adventure game in the metroidvania subgenre. Its sequel uses the same gameplay and visual templates as its predecessor. However, Blasphemous II aims to deliver a more accessible and streamlined experience.

Story

After the events that transpired in the first game, a curse known as the “Miracle” has once again befallen upon the world and its inhabitants. Because of this, a knight that is known only as the “Penitent One” awakens from his slumber. Cast onto a foreign land, the knight must solve the mystery of the curse with the help of a divine entity.

The main story is mostly told in-game through dialogues. These events are all voiced, and they breathe much-needed life into the game’s static pixelated world. Item descriptions and NPC encounters help flesh out the narrative, while progressively elaborating on how the Miracle cursed the world and its population. Like any divinity worthy of its holiness, the Miracle pulled some nasty pranks on the people. One curious example is the man who dreamt of swallowing a honeycomb, only to be turned into a giant beehive himself. These events are the best thing about Blasphemous II’s narrative since the main quest doesn’t get any interesting until the later stages.

Gameplay

Blasphemous II is a metroidvania with fast and fun gameplay. The controls are responsive, and areas are designed in a way that facilitates traversal, exploration and combat. Exploration is non-linear, and it rewards players’ curiosity. The map is gigantic, and stages are diverse in both layout and look; they’re filled with simple puzzle and platforming segments along with many items and secrets for players to be on the lookout for. Close to the main hub, many NPCs have set up shop. Some of them will simply trade items for in-game currency, while others will reward players with much needed health and MP upgrades provided they complete simple fetch-tasks. While collecting these items will occur naturally as players explore the map, many of the missing pieces will require a good dose of backtracking. Fortunately, players can adorn the map with various types of markers, so they can remember the location of points of interest later. Additionally, there is a huge amount of fast travel points which make backtracking less of a chore. All in all, exploration and questing are paced fairly well, although the rewards for treasure hunting are oftentimes disappointing.

At the start of the game, players get to choose one of a total of three weapons to start their journey with, while the other two will be tracked down not long after. Furthermore, these weapons have three rows of skills to unlock, with each adding more defense and attack options. Combat is satisfying. The weapons can be swapped on the fly according to the player’s preferences or needs. Difficulty tends to lean on the easier side but with a twist: With each death, the Penitent One drops guilt fragments which lowers his defense. On the up side, the rewards for killing enemies get a boost. This is a neat mechanic because it allows players to adjust in-game difficulty as they see fit. If the difficulty gets too overwhelming; an NPC, known as the Confessor, will absorb the Penitent One’s guilt for a fee.

Visuals

Visually, Blasphemous II isn’t that different from the original game. Characters and enemies have better defined sprites, but they are lacking in detail and variety. The same applies to the backgrounds; they look good and crispy but could use more effects and animations. Enemy variety is also lacking; some of them are simple palette swaps with slightly altered animations.

Audio

The sound effects in Blasphemous II have the right amount of impact in contrast with the muffled sounds of the original. The soundtrack is very well done and varied, mixing melancholic and sinister tunes with more upbeat ones. The voiceovers in Spanish are superb for an indie game. They’re high-quality and well-delivered.

Overall

Blasphemous II’s worst sins are possibly its lack of visual variety and the toned down blood and gore. Still, It features combat and exploration with satisfying audio-visual feedback, tight controls, deliciously twisted imagery and a killer soundtrack.

Starfield Timeline Details the History of Humanity’s Space Travel

The official website for the upcoming space RPG Starfield has been updated with a new set of information, with Bethesda and Microsoft choosing to reveal a timeline of events that lead up to the beginning of the game. While these events are likely detailed somewhere in the game’s lore, it does give fans a small taste of the history of humanity’s journey through space in Starfield‘s universe and detailing the history of Constellation.

The timeline begins at 2050 with humans stepping foot on Mars and barely fifty years later humans have begun living in space. This marks the final point in time right before the beginning of Starfield‘s storyline and, as mentioned before, it is currently unknown how, if any, of these events listed on the full timeline will play a role in the full release. Currently Starfield is set to be released on the Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 6th where it will also be available at launch through Game Pass.
