Alongside this unique spin on the game, a variety of Commander guises, new crates, and new ship skins will be the treats to grab across this event. Completing it on of the highest levels of difficulty will result in a secret ship prize!

New seasons of Ranked Battles and Early Access battleships

The latest update also welcomes two new seasons of Ranked Battles, with action-packed fights on the high seas! Contend for naval domination within a three-on-three format, getting the best of Tier VII and VIII ships, excluding carriers, in the timeframes between 3rd and 9th October, and 10th and 16th October.

These ships are available through regular and Big British Battleship Crates, with the range including Tier V Renown and Tier VII Hawke.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin PC demo brings three full RTS campaign missions to Steam Next Fest from October 9th-16th

Frontier Developments today revealed that the first three missions of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin will be available in a demo as part of Steam Next Fest starting on Monday, October 9th. Introducing an exciting new entry into the real-time strategy genre ahead of launch on November 17th, players will take command of the mighty Stormcast Eternals faction in dramatic battles against the cunning Orruk Kruleboyz and the spectres of the Nighthaunt.

In the first two missions of the game, the Stormcast Eternals strike out from the fortress settlement of Harkanibus in search of a powerful source of magic in the swamps of the Mortal Realm Ghur. Their goal is to save the settlement from the encroaching forces of the Orruk Kruleboyz – and the artefact offers them their best shot at pushing their invaders back. Players will clash with the Kruleboyz as they learn how to play Realms of Ruin, including how to accumulate resources, counter enemy attack strategies, summon new units to the field and upgrade their command posts to access additional unit types.

In the third mission of the demo, players’ strategic skills will be put to the test. The Stormcast Eternals discover the source of magic in the swamp, but find it bound in the ethereal chains of the Nighthaunt. Fending off waves of Chainrasps and other spectral horrors, they’ll defend the celestial battlemage Demechrios as he breaks the chains to unleash the arcane force. What happens after this battle – including the dark, enigmatic history of the artefact itself – is waiting for players to discover in the full campaign.

Featuring full motion-captured cutscenes, this singleplayer demo gives players just a taste of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin’s comprehensive RTS experience. Alongside the campaign, players will enjoy the repeatable singleplayer Conquest mode, 1v1 and 2v2 multiplayer, detailed unit customisation in the Army Livery tool, and the ability to construct detailed multiplayer battlefields or scenes in the Map Editor tool.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin launches on 17th November forPC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation® 5 and Xbox Series X. The game is available to pre-order now on all platforms, with up to three days’ early unlock available for those who pre-order the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions of the game.

The Düngeonmeister Goblin Quest Coloring Book: Impressions

The Düngeonmeister Goblin Quest Coloring Book

Follow Along with—and Color—This All-New RPG Fantasy Adventure!

Price: $14.99 BUY HERE

Overview

Around a decade ago, it became a hot trend for adults to invest in coloring books. There is something therapeutic about the calming activity, and we started seeing a growing selection in that market as everyone began to invest in high quality colored pencils and pens, creating minor masterpieces while relieving stress from page to page. With the release of Baldur’s Gate III and the popular cinematic adaptation of the namesake, Dungeons and Dragons has had a large revival as of late, and now we have a nice time-killer to look forward to with Düngeonmeister: The Goblin Quest Coloring Book from Simon and Schuster. How does this release measure up to other products on the market? Let’s find out.

Contents

Sure, there are Dungeon and Dragons themes within this coloring book, but there is more to it than just the theme. This book was created by podcaster and author Jef Aldrich, who crafted this product lovingly  with fellow podcaster Jon Taylor – so players of the game could even sculpt their own campaign right out of the pages due to the simple yet accessible nature of the book’s design. The 96 pages has a flow of a campaign of several arcs, which may be great inspiration for a dungeon master who has been in a creative slump, as intros and the base of quests can be found with the coloring pages to provide you some direction if you choose to do more than color the images within.

The images within the book are created by Zachary Bacus, an illustrator with a knack for detail. Sure, the details in most coloring books this style come from the artist. But with narrow lines and impressive features on each page, Bacus has created an open canvas with so many little easter eggs with every image, allowing users to bring out their imagination as they color to their focal point of their own creation. Thin lines does mean that it is best to go into this book with a decent set of colored pencils or pens (I used fine-tipped sharpies for my time with the book), and due to most pages having a blank back, readers can worry not about bleed through as the backs can be used for notes or simply skipped without ruining the back page design, which is a constant intrusion in a lot of adult coloring books.

I enjoy Dungeons and Dragons and while I, personally did not create a quest, the book did give me a hunger to get back behind the dice as the images and general lore within are quite stunning as a lot of effort went into every design within the book. If I had any critique, it would simply be that it does come in a bit short, and some border imagery would have made these art pieces sing a little more. That said, the user can craft their own, as there is plenty of room to do so on every piece within.

Quality

It may not seem like much, but the design of the pages here is of high quality, with pages feeling weighty, allowing for a little more than the general gentle strokes without worry of bleed-through or indenting further pages with sharp tips. I do think the overall book would have benefited a bit more with a hard cover – rather than the paper one, simply to fit the D&D aesthetic, if nothing more. I get the price would have had to increase a bit for that to happen, but I personally feel that would be a fine trade-off for a bit more of a display piece.

Final Thoughts

Düngeonmeister: The Goblin Quest Coloring Book is an imaginative and visually pleasing product that will give you the itch all over again. With beautifully crafted art, waiting to be fleshed out with color – this adult coloring book hits a bit different, making it easy to recommend to any novice or expert player you may be looking for the perfect gift for with a lower-end budget.

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways Review

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways

Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Platforms: Playstation 4, PC, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X (Reviewed)
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $9.99 USD – Available Here

Overview

With Resident Evil 4 arriving earlier this year and proving itself to be an exceptional remake of an already exceptional game, fans were delighted to experience Leon and Ashley’s story of survival in its new form. That being said, most familiar with the game also knew it was missing something that was usually included in all re-releases of the original title outside of the very first release, the Separate Ways campaign that followed the story of Ada Wong. Rather than include it in the original release, Capcom has chosen to release Separate Ways as a piece of DLC for Resident Evil 4 and it certainly shows that giving this familiar storyline some extra time in the oven paid off as iit not only delivers satisfyingly fresh takes on combat but also new twists to Ada’s journey through the game.

Story

Those familiar with the original Separate Ways, or even the remake of Resident Evil 4, will find that Ada’s journey here mostly follows the same story beats as Ada has been assigned with retrieving the precious “Amber” for an incredibly nefarious purpose by an extremely familiar client who makes themselves known quite frequently. What sets this version of Separate Ways apart is the fact that it allows Ada to have a story of her very own rather than being tied exclusively to what Leon is doing, giving her a chance to shine a bit more as a character as well as showcase more about what is happening around Leon as he tries to rescue Ashley from the Las Plagas.

While we won’t go into detail about the various new elements, especially since players should experience them for themselves, Ada almost immediately finds herself dropped right into the action as she faces off against her very own antagonist that pursues her through a majority of the DLC and sees her battling against the foe multiple times in new and familiar locations. Along the way she also encounters a slew of standard enemies including an El Gigante she must fight while zipping around rooftops and quite a bit more. She also has new and unique interactions with Luis, expanding on his character a bit more as well as uncovering new documents revealing extra backstory about the history of certain bosses, including a missing boss from the base game that has found its way to the DLC with a number of new modifications, working a separate enemy into the mix that, in the original release, was never properly utilized.

These new elements to the story and the aloof nature of Ada’s personality that evolves over the course of the roughly four hour DLC make it extremely appealing and a new way to utilize the characters while also expanding on and complimenting Resident Evil 4’s already amazing storyline. It is worth noting that things can feel a bit disjointed at times, as Ada’s journey through various chapters can see her suddenly jumping to new locations, including entirely new areas, without much explanation. This is partially due to how she is worked into the main storyline and the game must still follow those developments but it doesn’t stop it from feeling a bit disconnected, especially between a certain set of chapters.

Gameplay

In many ways Ada is just as skilled as Leon when it comes to defending herself as she has access to a wide-array of weaponry to take down enemies in the form of familiar pistols, rifle and SMG as well as a unique shotgun and explosive bow, as well as being able to defend herself with a knife that can parry attacks and help her get out of getting grabbed. She can even be fairly stealthy, with some encounters allowing players to move quietly and stealth kill most enemies in a location if they choose. Alongside these weapons though Ada comes with a couple of other handy tools, though one only comes up in certain circumstances.

The primary unique tool to Ada is her grappling gun. Ada can not only use this grappling hook to zip over to enemies that have been stunned, delivering powerful spinning kicks to enemies at a distance, she can also use it to quickly traverse an area or get out of dodge. These grappling hook points appear at set locations and aren’t everywhere though they often allow Ada to either completely bypass a fight that she doesn’t need to take part in, leaving random enemies in the dust, or quickly maneuver around a dangerous foe, taking advantage of her new location to deal plenty of damage or chase down a fleeing enemy.

While a fairly simple mechanic, Ada’s grappling gun makes her a speedy and unique feeling character compared to Leon and her tool can be upgraded a bit to make it even more useful. While the Separate Ways DLC does not offer the Shooting Gallery found in the base game, Ada can still purchase Charms from the Merchant that can be equipped to her upgradable attache case with one of these Charms allowing her to yank shields away from enemies, giving her even more useful tools to take down difficult foes. The other tool is more contextual and matches with Ada’s spy aesthetic as it is a special augmented-reality tool that allows players to see remnants of footprints and fingerprints to track down a target. These only appear at set times and are simply used for story purposes though needing to figure out a code for a door by fingerprints is a fun little mini-puzzle.

Separate Ways will see Ada traveling across many familiar looking locations from the main game at different times from Leon but she will also travel through new areas entirely, including a few from the original release that never were featured in the remake. This includes the return of a certain aforementioned boss that sees players battling against a new type of enemy with its own set of mechanics that are a bit on the predictable side. It is also worth noting that this boss fight from the original game has been modified to be simpler as well, lacking any of the puzzle elements found during the original release despite being extended.

Throughout the DLC players will be able to still locate various treasures and complete Merchant Missions to obtain Spinel that can also be used to upgrade and purchase equipment that can then be carried over to other playthroughs. Along these same lines players can choose from a few difficulties to start with, though Professional can only be unlocked after beating the game once, with each difficulty offering its own set of unlockables and challenges that are unique to the game and offer extra bonuses for players to strive for if they want to be completionists.

Audio & Visuals

Since Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways uses most of the base game’s locations and enemy types players will be familiar with most of the designs here and there though some of the updated monster designs for returning bosses and encounters are quite interesting and fitting. Zipping around using the grappling gun feels and looks impressive, especially as many of the cinematic melee attacks on boss enemies are wonderfully acrobatic and a few even delightfully over-the-top. Ada’s own design remains straightforward throughout the chapters though players can unlock extra outfits, including her signature dress, by completing a run of the game and going through it a second time.

The voice work throughout the DLC is solid, with Ada’s voice actress really coming into her own throughout the campaign, playing quite well against some of the more dramatic characters she interacts with, including a signature character that just can’t help drop a reference to one of his most famous lines in another game. The soundtrack features a fairly solid collection of background music as well though it really doesn’t seem much different from what was offered in the base game.

Overall

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways offers an action-packed reinvented storyline that compliments the main game nicely while allowing Ada Wong to develop a bit more as a character as she fights through reimagined areas with fresh feeling combat thanks to her unique tools and takes on varied reimagined bosses in what ends up being a shorter but incredibly worthwhile expansion to an already amazing title.

DALLAS — Sept. 29th, 2023Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition (ROTT), the definitive remaster of the cult classic FPS by original developer and publisher Apogee Entertainment, the maniacal minds at New Blood Interactive, and the gaming treasure hunters at Nightdive Studios rocket jumps to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility.

For the first time ever, Splatter LUDICROUS GIBS on consoles! With a controller in hand, get trigger happy and experience Rise of the Triad like never before, and relive the ‘90s FPS golden age with modern luxuries, including crisp 4K graphics, increased FOV, cloud saves, and achievements.

A sinister threat looms off the California coast, and the clandestine Triad clan is dead-set on destroying Los Angeles. Suit up as one of five High-Risk United Nations Task-Force operatives (codenamed H.U.N.T.), each with their own distinct attributes, and pursue clandestine cult members while zig-zagging through labyrinthine levels.

Lock and load with a skull-crushing arsenal of devastating weaponry. Unload two fist-fulls of fury with the iconic dual-wield pistols, or get hot and heavy with drunk missiles and towering walls of flame leaving nothing but ash in its wake. Blast into out-of-reach secret areas with a well-timed rocket jump in the world’s first FPS with verticality.

Veteran operatives will enjoy new content, including five heart-pounding campaigns, fresh expansion packs, and never-before-seen-narrative beta build episodes designed by the original developers.

Coming soon to every platform, recruit fellow operatives and crank up the mind-melting mayhem with 11-player online multiplayer match-ups featuring cross-play. Engage in classic COMM-BAT deathmatch, become prey in 10 vs. 1 Hunter mode, or play a piece of history in “Capture the Triad” mode, gaming’s first ever online capture the flag mode.

“Reviving ROTT has been a blast. Many thanks to our friends at Nightdive and New Blood for making the console edition a reality,” said Scott Miller, founder of Apogee Entertainment and original project manager of Rise of the Triad circa 1995. “ROTT’s simple, fast-paced formula was revolutionary and still yields hours upon hours of fun. For some, this is the FPS that your parents played, but the console edition gives a whole new generation to join the H.U.N.T., and I’m sure some parent-child faceoffs will be in the works!”

Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is available now on Steam and GOG for $19.99 USD and on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One along with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility.

About Apogee Entertainment

The “Apogee Model,” as described in the new book, Shareware Heroes (Aug. 2022 release), was the starting point for talented indie developers to bypass retail and sell their games using online distribution in 1990. Apogee founder Scott Miller created this new model and soon funded, mentored, and published many indie upstarts and released a legendary string of global success stories, like Commander Keen, Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, Shadow Warrior, Max Payne and Prey, earning over a billion dollars commercially. Miller also created the 3D Realms label for Apogee, which was sold to Embracer Group in 2021.

The new Apogee Entertainment, with founder Scott Miller and longtime partner Terry Nagy at the helm, will empower today’s incredibly talented indie developers, paving the way for their global success with innovative ideas, cutting-edge marketing, and the same fearlessness that changed the industry.
