Developed with a deep connection to the region it portrays, MAFATE (Mah-Faht) puts players in the role of a legendary mail carrier, exploring one of the world’s most remote inhabited regions as they deliver letters, photograph fleeting moments, and connect isolated communities. The updated demo gives players a chance to experience MAFATE’s relaxed approach to exploration and discovery. The Cirque de Mafate is a real volcanic caldera on Réunion Island with no roads or cars, reachable only on foot or helicopter. In MAFATE, players can explore trails, villages, forests, waterfalls, and towering cliffs inspired by the region while experiencing its Creole culture.
At the heart of the journey is Luna, a young Creole girl mysteriously transformed into a magical camera. Together with the mail carrier, she helps players discover the valley from new perspectives, capturing photographs and even possessing native animals to reach hidden paths, uncover secrets, and solve environmental puzzles.
