LOS ANGELES – SEPTEMBER 3, 2026 – Netmarble, a renowned developer and publisher of high-quality games, continues the 1st anniversary celebration of its AFK RPG THE KING OF FIGHTERS AFK with a new in-game update. Players can experience fresh new content and a range of in-game events.
This update is highlighted by the return of Iori Yagami with a new style from KOF XIII, a master of the Yagami-style ancient martial arts who carries [Rush] Synergy. As part of the ongoing 1st anniversary celebrations, his summon rate has been doubled from normal. Players can obtain him through the Iori Yagami Arrival Event that runs from September 3 to September 16, alongside the [Rush] Synergy Pick-Up event, which boosts summon rates for fighters with [Rush] Synergy over the same period.
A Keepsake for Terry Bogard has been added that features [Deathblow] Synergy. This item’s release is accompanied by another chance to recruit him through the Terry Bogard Rerun Arrival Event, also running from September 3 to September 16.
As part of the ongoing celebration, a 1st Anniversary Survey is currently open through September 16 that gathers player feedback on the Fighters Festa event and helps make future improvements to the game. The survey can be accessed directly in game. Players who complete the survey will receive 1 million Rubies, which is among the largest single rewards offered to date.
Additional events from this update includes the on-going Fighters Festa that gives players a chance to obtain the Legendary Pets Nitro and Hippaka through September 16, while a new main event, Happy Picnic, runs from September 10 to September 23 that introduces the Legendary Pets Sin and Bonnet. The Lucky Elpy Event also returns from September 7 to September 11, offering the Legendary Supporter Lawrence Blood.Lastly, the new mini-game Shaky Shaky Cake is playable from September 3 to September 11.
THE KING OF FIGHTERS AFK is based on SNK’s “THE KING OF FIGHTERS” IP. The game features iconic fighters from “THE KING OF FIGHTERS” series reimagined in pixel art graphics that gamers are familiar with from THE KING OF FIGHTERS R-2 on NEOGEO POCKET COLOR, allowing players to build their own team of favorite Fighters and enjoy dynamic combats. Players can strategically create their decks by combining at least 5 and up to 25 different Fighters and formations.
