The retro-inspired 2D hand-drawn Metroidvania is finally here.
Barcelona, Spain – September 9, 2026. SelectaPlay, in collaboration with the independent Spanish developer Dormidin Studio, announces that Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster, their new 2D action-adventure metroidvania title, is now available in both physical and digital formats. The game can be found on the Steam, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Nintendo eShop, as well as in a special physical edition at major retailers for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. This physical edition also includes a reversible cover.
The title combines fast-paced action, precise platforming, and a Metroidvania-style approach. The gameplay stands out for its dynamic combat built around the legendary Heart-Eater sword and the ability to gather ritual rings to increase power and unlock new sword techniques. Across a vast map filled with hidden villages, challenges, and side quests, every encounter and decision will require strategy and reflexes to overcome challenging enemies and epic bosses.
Inspired by 80s and 90s cult-classic fantasy films and video games such as The Beastmaster, Conan the Barbarian, Deathstalker, Castlevania, Golden Axe, and Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster offers an action-platforming experience that blends nostalgia with a modern approach. Every character, creature, and environment has been hand-drawn and animated through hundreds of detailed sketches, bringing the brutal fantasy world of Arborea to life.
