Crow Country and Tangle Tower developer SFB Games announces The Mermaid Mask launches on PC and consoles, including Nintendo Switch 2, on July 16th 2026
London, UK – Saturday, June 6th 2025 – SFB Games, the studio behind Tangle Tower and cult favourites including Crow Country and Nintendo Switch launch title Snipperclips, today announced The Mermaid Mask, a stylish, witty, and atmospheric new instalment in the beloved Detective Grimoire series, launches on PC, Steam Deck, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on July 16th.
In the pitch-black waters beyond a long-abandoned fishing town, the enigmatic Captain Magnus Mortuga (rumoured to be everything from an immortal time-traveller to a cursed vampire) has been found dead within his submarine.
His body lies alone inside a locked room, marked by a single fatal wound, yet no weapon can be found. At the centre of the chamber sits an ancient, barnacle-covered cauldron with a heavy metal lid; recently opened, its interior eerily empty except for deep, unexplained scratches.
Summoned by the mysterious Captain Seafoam, players step into the shoes of Detective Grimoire and his sharp-tongued partner Sally to unravel the truth. Armed with little more than a cryptic letter and two photographs, they are drawn aboard the world’s strangest submarine and into a mystery that defies logic.
The Mermaid Mask builds on the acclaimed formula of Tangle Tower, blending clever puzzle-solving with sharp writing and a richly stylised world. Players will:
- Investigate an impossible locked-room murder
- Explore a sprawling, hand-crafted submarine filled with secrets
- Interrogate a cast of eccentric, fully voice-acted suspects
- Find and piece together clues to uncover motive, means, and opportunity
- Experience satisfying “aha!” moments through layered puzzle design
Balancing dark themes with light-hearted British humour, the game delivers a cozy-creepy experience that has become a signature of SFB Games.
Returning to their roles are acclaimed voice actors Edwyn Tiong (Loco Motive, Harold Halibut, Unavowed) as Detective Grimoire and Amber Lee Connors (Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, The Outer Worlds 2) as Sally.
They are joined by a diverse ensemble of English-language voice talent spanning games, anime, film, and radio, including Tara Langella (Hades II, The Outer Worlds 2), David Menkin (Pragmata, Still Wakes the Deep), Steven Kearney (SimCity), Justine Leah Hince (Killer Kiss, UnOrdinary), Anairis Quiñones (Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie), Eric Morgan Stuart (Life is Strange, Batman: Caped Crusader), Jacqui Bardelang (Metaphor: ReFantazio, Baldur’s Gate 3), Christy Meyer (Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Dead Island 2) and Alex Bankier (Cat’s Eye, Code Geass: Dakkan no Z).
The game features expressive animations and hand-drawn characters by Velvet V and Catherine Unger, bringing each suspect vividly to life, alongside a rich, cinematic score by Raphael Benjamin Meyer, performed by the Budapest Art Orchestra. A major improvement from Tangle Tower – the clues are now fully 3D interactive objects, modelled by Kindra Dantone.
From interrogating suspicious crew members to decoding cryptic evidence, The Mermaid Mask challenges players to think like true detectives.
Prepare to take the plunge with The Mermaid Mask launches July 16, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A playable demo is available now on Steam, offering players an early glimpse into the studio’s most ambitious mystery yet.
