Action-packed manga panels turn into playing cards in the roguelike deckbuilding adaptation of The Fable, which touts 28 millioncopies in circulation alongside a movie adaptation starring renowned actor Jun’ichi Okada.
Outsmart groups of violent gangsters by planning out every move for the master hitman, Akira “The Fable” Sato, and his trusty sidekick duo, Yoko and Suzuki. There’s just one little problem: despite his name instilling fear across the Japanese underworld, he’s been banned from killing anyone for an entire year.
Anticipate the enemy’s strategies, then place flashy Attack, Defense, and Move panels onto blank pages in strategic order to create turn-based battle montages. Dance with death without dealing it directly, dishing out disarms and knockouts. Avoid taking damage whenever possible, as it destroys the page and therefore health, causing popping rips and holes!
Deal damage up close and from afar with Akira’s fearsome fists and firearm skills. Sneak up from behind for tactical takedowns with Yoko’s stealthy movements, or lay traps for easy ambush opportunities with Suzuki’s ability to both stun and debuff opponents.
Put together quick pulverizing sessions during Puzzle Mode’s one-page battle challenges. Take a break between intense battles in quirky mini-games paying homage to the original manga: smoke a fish, shoot a bear, or even witness a drinking challenge between Yoko and Playboy Kawai.
“There are so many battle strategies to choose from. You can be the aggressor, plan out entire montages filled with counterattacks, or something in between,” says mono, developer at MONO ENTERTAINMENT. “Many thanks to our community who shared feedback during Steam Next Fest which helped us to earn a “Very Positive” rating, your input helped define what The Fable: Manga Build Roguelike has become at 1.0!”
The Fable: Manga Build Roguelike is now available on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch today, with language options in English and Japanese. To keep up with the latest updates, visit the official The Fable: Manga Build Roguelike website, and follow MONO ENTERTAINMENT on X / Twitter.
