Shantae 7 and Sigma Star Saga DX News Announced at LRG3

WayForward delivers a double impact of upcoming gaming awesomeness

October 29, 2025 – Valencia, Calif. – Shake your hips and shoot for the stars! Independent video game studio WayForward is thrilled to share new information about two of its upcoming titles following their inclusion in Limited Run Games’ LRG3 2025 video presentation earlier today: a new Shantae game and the console/PC version of shoot-’em-up/RPG Sigma Star Saga DX.

Following the highly anticipated release of the previous Shantae game this past August comes the announcement that the next, all-new, seventh entry in the fan-favorite series is already under development by Shantae series director/co-creator Matt Bozon and his team. Though no gameplay details are available at this time, the announcement was accompanied by a new piece of teaser artwork featuring series protagonist Shantae and her nemesis, nefarious pirate Risky Boots, both with subtle revisions to their designs, including new hair styles. No platforms or release window have been revealed; further information will be shared at a future date.

Additionally, a stellar new trailer was shown for Sigma Star Saga DX, available for viewing below.

This enhanced version of the cult-classic shoot-’em-up/RPG, which was originally released for Game Boy Advance in 2005, is on its way to modern platforms via Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine with porting handled by Mighty Rabbit Studios. Showcasing the game’s unique mix of top-down exploration and side-scrolling space-shooter battles, as well as the various tools and 20,000+ weapon combinations players can acquire during their intergalactic infiltration of the Krill Empire, the trailer provided a first look at one of several player-selectable HD border artworks, as well as an early preview of the game’s new title song.

Other upgrades to Sigma Star Saga DX compared to the original 2005 version include an improved map, decreased random encounter rate, rebalanced EXP system, refined dialogue, additional save points, and assorted bug fixes and quality-of-life updates (all of which are also included in the previously offered GBA cartridge version). Sigma Star Saga DX is now expected to launch digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam in early 2026, with preorders for the physical Switch and PS5 versions planned for a similar timeframe.
