Surreal, but true: Elden Ring really is getting a live-action film

Somehow surreal, but really true: Bandai Namco has made work on a live-action film adaptation of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring official. Together with film studio A24, the project will be directed and scripted by Alex Garland, who we know from films such as Ex Machina, Annihilation and most recently Civil War.

The film is being produced by Peter Rice together with Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, with George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis also involved as producers. The well-known author George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones) is responsible for the background story and mythology of Elden Ring.

Since its release in February 2022, Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. You might not really be able to imagine a film adaptation yet, but hey, Minecraft and Pac-Man were also made into films. Fans explore vast landscapes and dangerous dungeons in a dark fantasy world to face challenging battles.

In addition to the planned film adaptation, Elden Ring will also be back in the spotlight in the video game world in the coming weeks: Elden Ring: Nightreign (Pre-order here), a cooperative spin-off that offers new characters, threats and game mechanics, will be released on 30 May. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, a new version of the game for Nintendo Switch 2, will also be released in 2025.
