Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II – Enhanced Edition coming to PS5 this summer

After months of speculation, it’s now official: Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will be released this summer in an optimised Enhanced Edition for PlayStation 5. Ninja Theory and Microsoft confirmed the port in a video statement on Twitter, accompanied by an update on the official PS Store page, where the title can already be added to the wishlist. The PS5 version of the psychological action adventure game not only comes with graphical optimisations, but also makes use of the console’s special features: Haptic feedback via the DualSense controller as well as full support for PS5 Pro, should provide an even more immersive gaming experience. It is currently unclear whether there will also be a physical edition or whether the release will be exclusively digital.

The return to the PlayStation platform closes a circle, so to speak: The original Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was first released for PS4 in 2017 before Microsoft took over the developer studio Ninja Theory in 2018. The sequel, which was previously available exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC, takes Senua to the dark and mythical world of 10th century Viking-influenced Iceland. In terms of content, Hellblade II continues the story of the psychologically marked warrior, once again accompanied by an outstanding audio and visual design that, according to critics, almost achieves cinematic qualities. The Xbox release was widely praised for its depiction of mental illness and technical presentation – an aspect that is likely to impress again on the PS5 with its enhanced hardware.

Microsoft’s move to bring another exclusive title to the rival console is part of a broader multi-platform strategy. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition have previously been announced or released for PS5. Other titles such as Gears of War: Reloaded and The Outer Worlds 2 are set to follow in 2025 – and even Halo ports are rumoured to be on the cards. With the imminent PS5 release of Hellblade II, PlayStation gamers can look forward to an intense, cinematic adventure – a reunion with Senua that could set new standards not only narratively but also technically.
