Nintendo Switch 2 – Mouse Support Finally Shown Off in New Gameplay Showcase

With the Nintendo Switch 2 (Pre-order here) just around the corner, Nintendo is ramping up its promotional efforts by spotlighting one of the console’s most anticipated new features: native mouse support. For years, fans of the original Switch have requested broader mouse integration. Now, thanks to the Switch 2, that request is finally being answered. The console will support both the updated Joy-Cons — which now offer cursor-style input — and standard USB mice, providing players with more flexible control options than ever before.

A newly released gameplay showcase offers a first look at the feature in action, demonstrated through Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition (Pre-order here), a launch title from Koei Tecmo. The strategic nature of the game makes it a perfect fit for mouse input, bringing a PC-like control scheme to the console space. Players will be able to choose between four input methods: traditional controller play, Joy-Con mouse mode, USB mouse support, and touch controls via the console’s screen. USB mice will automatically take priority over Joy-Con input, and switching between control types is seamless. The game also includes customizable sensitivity settings and full support for left-handed players. While mouse and keyboard compatibility was technically possible on the original Switch in select titles, this marks the first time Nintendo is fully embracing mouse functionality as a core feature.

The feature is shown around the 10-minute mark.

Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening, originally released in 2022/2023, will receive a free upgrade for Switch 2, alongside optional DLC content. This early look at mouse support suggests a strong future for strategy and sim-style games on the platform. The Nintendo Switch 2 launches worldwide on June 5, 2025. With innovative features like this, the next generation of Nintendo gaming is shaping up to be more versatile than ever.
