Sigma Star Saga DX for Game Boy Advance Preorders Now Live

The shooter/RPG classic is back and better than ever from WayForward & Limited Run Games

Valencia, Calif. – March 7, 2025 – A legendary Game Boy Advance game is back and even better than before! Independent video game studio WayForward and publisher Limited Run Games, under license from Bandai Namco, are proud to announce that Sigma Star Saga DX, a refined version of the unique 2005 adventure/RPG/shoot-’em-up hybrid, is now available to preorder as a Game Boy Advance compatible repro cart from limitedrungames.com. Standard and collector’s editions of Sigma Star Saga DX will be offered as open preorders until April 6, 2025, and a stellar new trailer can be seen below.

Originally published by Namco on GBA, Sigma Star Saga is a genre-shattering sci-fi adventure that transitions from character-driven top-down exploration to realtime side-scrolling space-shooter action when battle begins. As elite Earth pilot Ian Recker, players must infiltrate the invading Krill empire and defeat them from within by traversing numerous planets, interacting with memorable NPCs, and wielding dozens of types of weapon data that allow for thousands of powerful combinations for Recker’s ship. Newly updated for the game’s 20th anniversary, Sigma Star Saga DX retains all of the gameplay and content of the original release, but adds numerous refinements including an improved map, decreased random encounter rate, rebalanced EXP system, modified hit boxes, adjusted auto-fire, enhanced dialogue, additional save points, assorted bug fixes and quality-of-life updates, and more.

“Sigma Star Saga DX is a new and improved version of this classic sci-fi shooter/adventure, polished and refined by the original 2005 dev team,” says Sigma Star Saga creator Matt Bozon. “We collected 20 years of fan feedback, and made this beloved game even better! Now, players who missed out two decades ago can finally experience this truly inspired and experimental genre mashup, and players who enjoyed the game back in the day will want to add this new, faster-paced, harder-hitting version to their collections!”

Sigma Star Saga DX will be playable on any Game Boy Advance compatible hardware, and will be available in both a standard edition, which includes the game cartridge and manual in retro-style box for $49.99, and a collector’s edition, which includes a special Galactic Blue game cartridge, manual, retro-style box, soundtrack CD, coin, keychain, and poster in deluxe packaging for $99.99. A version for modern platforms, running on Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine, is planned for physical and digital release in the future.
