Apogee’s Chaotic Co-op Platformer “Bread & Fred” Reveals May 23 Switch Release at Nintendo Indie World Japan

Barcelona, Spain — April 17, 2024Bread & Fred, the co-op platformer developed by SandCastles Studio and published by Apogee Entertainment which has already sold more than 500,000 units, brings chaos and catchy tunes to Nintendo Switch on Thursday, May 23, 2024, as just announced during Nintendo’s Indie World Japan.

Grab a joy-con and experience the breathtaking highs and frosty face-planting lows of Bread & Fred on the go, with even more adventure awaiting atop the icy peaks! Meet the newest member of the mountaintop crew, Pol the Polar Bear. Race Pol to the finish line in 10 all-new time trial challenges to unlock special rewards.

Bundle up for the tandem-trek of a lifetime as Bread and Fred, pint-sized penguin pals, embark on a journey to the top of the summit. Intrepid climbers land heart-pounding jumps, clear sprawling gaps, and maneuver slippery platforms, all while attached at the hip to a (hopefully) trusty partner. Communicate via in-game emojis to count down every jump.

Find the perfect penguin partner and clear record-setting runs together in Speedrun Mode. Interested in a single-player solo climb? Swap out a penguin pal for Jeff the Rock to sling and jump-throw across the slippery slopes.

Clamber to the jams across all genres, from smooth jazz to hip-hop, with the “Super Duper Ultra Redux” mixtape, featuring an hour of toe-tapping, wing-flapping tracks from legendary gaming composers like Grant Kirkhope (GoldenEye, Donkey Kong 64), Chipper Hammond (composer, Turbo Overkill), and Tim Stoney (Assassin’s Creed: Origins). Find the perfect song for every climb with the Jukebox inside Bread and Fred’s house, easily accessible via the pause menu.

“Bread & Fred was created as a collaborative experience, and the Nintendo Switch is a perfect complement for friends and family to play together at home and on the go,” said Scott Miller, CCO and Founder of Apogee Entertainment. “With the addition of the timed trials, there’s even more reason to gather friends to create memorable, binding moments.”

About Apogee Entertainment

The “Apogee Model,” as described in the new book, Shareware Heroes (Aug. 2022 release), was the starting point for talented indie developers to bypass retail and sell their games using online distribution in 1990. Apogee founder Scott Miller created this new model and soon funded, mentored, and published many indie upstarts and released a legendary string of global success stories, like Commander Keen, Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, Shadow Warrior, Max Payne and Prey, earning over a billion dollars commercially. Miller also created the 3D Realms label for Apogee, which was sold to Embracer Group in 2021.

The new Apogee Entertainment, with founder Scott Miller and longtime partner Terry Nagy at the helm, will empower today’s incredibly talented indie developers, paving the way for their global success with innovative ideas, cutting-edge marketing, and the same fearlessness that changed the industry.
