17-BIT’s mystical VR survival adventure Song in the Smoke launches October 7th

Hunt, forage and fight prehistoric beasts on Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR

Kyoto, Japan, September 27th 2021 –Skulls of the Shogun and GALAK-Z developer 17-BIT’s highly anticipated VR survival adventure Song in the Smoke will launch on October 7th for Oculus Quest and Rift platforms, and PlayStation VR at $29.99. Get ready to embark on an epic quest in a mysterious prehistoric world full of strange beasts where they must craft, forage, hunt, and fight to survive.

Song in the Smoke utilizes VR to its full potential, allowing players to expertly identify threats with sound, sight, and smell. Use the world to your advantage, and stalk your prey from the tall grass. Intuitive VR controls let you line up the perfect shot with your bow, but be careful to listen out for the creatures that may be hunting you, or else you’ll have to fight for your life with clubs, sticks, or anything else you can get your hands on.

With art by famed illustrator Katsuya Terada (The Legend of Zelda, Blood: The Last Vampire, The Monkey King), Song in the Smoke creates a primordial wilderness unlike any other. Part survival game and part mysterious adventure, Song in the Smoke’s fantastical creatures and stylized scenery lend an eerie, otherworldly tone to an experience that’s both action-packed and intimate.

“When we decided to make Song in the Smoke we knew we wanted to make more than a VR tech demo, but rather a fully fleshed out survival adventure that captures the danger and wonder of the natural world. It’s a place you want to be… even when it scares the bejesus out of you,” said 17-BIT founder and creative lead Jake Kazdal. “We’re based in Kyoto, which is full of absolutely mesmerizing ancient forests, and we wanted to capture the feeling of being a primitive person living in this lush wilderness, relying on their wits and instincts to get by. Song in the Smoke is enchanting and foreboding in a way that never would have been possible without VR.”
