Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away Returns To Cinemas For The 20th Anniversary

Melbourne, Australia, 8 July 2021 – Madman Anime Group is pleased to announce Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar®-winning masterpiece, Spirited Away, will return to cinemas across Australia from July 22nd, in celebration of its 20th anniversary.

The biggest box office hit of all time in Japan (surpassed only recently by Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train), Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away helped redefine the possibilities of animation for Western audiences and a generation of new filmmakers. Combining Japanese mythology with Alice in Wonderland-type whimsy, Spirited Away cemented Miyazaki’s reputation as an icon of animation and storytelling.

First released in 2001, Spirited Away is a dazzling masterpiece from one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the history of animation. Since its release, the film has gone on to win multiple awards including Best Animation of the Year at the 2002 Tokyo Anime Awards, Best Animated Film at the 2002 New York Film Critics Circle Awards and Best Animated Feature at the 2003 Academy Awards, among several others.

To further commemorate the 20th Anniversary celebrations, a limited run of 20th Anniversary ‘No-Face’ Pins will be available* on opening day at participating locations.
