CC Screen: Dexter 7×03 Recap “Freedom!”

Stripper Nadia’s date with Quinn is going apparently well, well enough for her to admit that she’s been playing him and that she doesn’t want to do it anymore. They strike up a deal that they both share information with each other. Because Quinn hasn’t already had a spotty past in regards to unofficial informants.

Dexter breaks into the mausoleum from earlier, which has been decorate with some serious love for the Minotaur – with a drawing of a maze and one of the previous victim’s earrings in the middle. Not enough serial killers make mythical references these days, it’s nice to see a killer with some ancient education. In an effort to prove to Deb that Speltzer is the killer, Dexter takes a photo of the earring and tries to send it to Deb, but his cell reception is dead. Been there, buddy.

The dead reception on Dexter’s phone means that Debra also can’t get through as she lets him know that she wants to go check on Speltzer. Apparently Dexter’s trip about Speltzer has worried Debra to the point where she’s decided to check on him herself, just to make sure that Dexter’s ‘lizard brain’ is wrong. Unfortunately he’s dead on.

Speltzer has a girl that he invited from the bar earlier in his house, getting gradually creepier as time goes on, making her even more uncomfortable. Debra is sitting in the car outside, cursing her brother and his lizard brain, when the house starts having what looks and sounds like a hardcore screamo rave party. This is about the time when her instincts kick in, and apparently her instinct to get back up was not one of them.

She starts to explore the weirdo maze that Speltzer has set up and is chasing the bar girl around in. Oh and he’s wearing a Minotaur mask. Totally not creepy or anything. Yet another time to call back up, but Deb is nothing if not head strong. She gets into a fight with him, and Dexter ends up saving her by hitting Speltzer over the head with a plank.

They find the bar girl, dead unfortunately, Speltzer escapes, and Debra’s whole stance on the ability of the law is shifted. Not enough to get her to agree with how Dexter does it, however. The episode ends with her telling him to move out and her official stance on what he does up in the air. But it’s nowhere near a pardon, and she may still end up putting cuffs on her brother.

Next time on Dexter: The Brotherhood get closer to Dexter, Debra promises him that bad things will find him, and Speltzer and Dexter have a throw down.
