STORMGATE EARLY ACCESS PREVIEW NOW LIVE

Support the Frost Giant Studios Team and Enjoy a Two-Week Head Start

IRVINE, Calif. July 30, 2024 – Frost Giant Studios today welcomed players around the world to join the early access preview for Stormgate, the highly anticipated real-time strategy (RTS) game. Closed beta testers, Kickstarter backers, and those who pre-purchase one of three Early Access Packs on Steam can now enjoy a two-week head start before the free-to-play release begins on August 13.

Created by veterans of StarCraft® II and Warcraft® III, Stormgate is a love letter to classic RTS games. Set in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi and fantasy future, Stormgate challenges players to build and command armies in epic battles. Early access includes the game’s three highly asymmetric factions–warring armies vying for control over our planet. Between the stalwart Human Vanguard, the demonic Infernal Host, and the techno-angelic Celestial Armada, players are sure to find an army that they’ll love to play.

Watch the Stormgate Early Access Trailer below:

Stormgate preserves classic RTS gameplay while introducing modern innovations to make it more approachable. The “BuddyBot” assists players of all skill levels, acting as training wheels or an always-on helper to aid in managing the game’s economy and base-building, so that they can enjoy RTS gameplay without needing the high “actions per minute” (APM) of a seasoned pro. Automated control groups and the quick macro panel simplify inputs, lowering the skill floor without affecting the skill ceiling.

Stormgate offers four main modes of play:

  • Campaign: Explore an ever-evolving story, with three free missions and more available for purchase.
  • Competitive: Engage in ranked 1v1 battles. A Hero-driven 3v3 mode is coming later.
  • Cooperative: Control powerful Heroes and team up in 3-player co-op vs. AI opponents on maps with unique objectives.
  • Custom Games: Challenge other players to 1v1, 2v2, or the MOBA-like Turf War mode (Editor to be released later during early access).

“Early access is an important milestone, but it’s not the final destination. Stormgate will continue to grow with new content and features in the months and years ahead,” said Tim Morten, CEO and Production Director of Frost Giant Studios. “We’re inspired by the success of other early access games like Baldur’s Gate® III and Hades® and believe this approach will help us create the best possible game with our community’s feedback.”

Tim Campbell, President and Game Director, added, “This early access preview is our way of thanking our supporters, including our playtesters and all the die-hard RTS players who have been with us for every step of our development journey. For Stormgate, this is only the beginning. We’re planning to release more story, more game modes such as 3v3, as well as our powerful new editor, while we continue working with the community to make Stormgate the best RTS it can be.”

Early Access Packs*:

  • Early Access Pack ($24.99 USD): Includes Amara, a Vanguard hero; Chapter 1 of the Vanguard campaign (containing three replayable missions); and the Gold Vanguard Army Accent cosmetic upgrade.
  • Deluxe Early Access Pack ($39.99 USD): Includes everything in the Early Access Pack plus Maloc, the Infernal Hero; Auralanna, the Celestial Hero; and a Chicken Supporter Pet.
  • Ultimate Early Access Pack ($59.99 USD): Includes everything in the Deluxe Early Access Pack plus unlocked access to Chapters 2 & 3 of the Vanguard campaign and the Firestorm Fog of War shader.

The Stormgate campaign will continue to expand during early access and long into the future as the team plans to continue releasing new missions every few months. Stormgate is designed as a highly social experience and, in the future, players who purchase access to these story-driven adventures will be able to invite their friends to play them cooperatively for free.

Free to Play, the Right Way

Starting August 13, every game mode in Stormgate will be playable for free, including three free prologue campaign missions, unlimited 1v1 ranked matches, three-player co-op vs. AI, and custom games. All Heroes will be free to enjoy up to level 5 and Blockade, a Vanguard Hero, will be completely free to everyone to max level. To support ongoing development of Stormgate, players may purchase additional story chapters, unlock additional progression for Heroes, or adopt an adorable in-game pet like the Supporter Jerboa. Stormgate is committed to fairness and transparency with its business model. Instead of locking content behind mind-numbing grinding mechanics (or even worse, selling competitive advantages to players who pay for them), we’re committed to fair play and not going “pay to win.”

Powered by SnowPlay

SnowPlay, Frost Giant’s custom-built technology, transforms Unreal Engine 5 into the most advanced RTS engine to date. Stormgate features 64 tick-rate servers versus the typical 8 (tick rate being a measure of how frequently a game refreshes its information), empowering smooth and responsive gameplay. With SnowPlay, Stormgate offers players cutting-edge features like rollback netcode, a groundbreaking innovation that revolutionized online play for fighting games and has never before been possible in an RTS of this scale.

Stormgate is available for Windows PC on Steam and can also be played on other devices, including Mac systems, via NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform.

Starting today, anyone can receive a free in-game pet–the Rizzy Kitty–by tuning in to one of the content creators playing Stormgate on Twitch.tv with Twitch Drops enabled.

To join the Stormgate community on Discord, visit https://discord.gg/stormgate. For further information on Stormgate, including a development roadmap, webcomics, an eNovella, and more, visit playstormgate.com.

Want to get involved? Help create a bright future for RTS games by investing in Frost Giant through StartEngine today.

*The Gold Vanguard Army Accent, Chicken Supporter Pet, and Firestorm Fog of War shader are all exclusive to the Early Access Packs and will not be available for purchase in the Stormgate in-game Shop. Chapters 2 & 3 of the Vanguard campaign will be released later during early access.

Please note that all investments entail risk, including the potential loss of capital. You should only invest an amount of money that you can afford to lose without changing your lifestyle. For more information, please visit StartEngine.

The Duck Life 9: The Flock free content update is now live for PC, and fans can try the game with the free PC demo available on the Steam page.

Watch the Duck Life 9: The Flock content update trailer below:

The Duck Life franchise started back in 2010 as a flash game released on the Newgrounds and Kongregate game portals. It quickly gained popularity, being hosted by hundreds of websites and picking up over 200 million plays over its lifetime. The original game involved training up a duck in running, swimming and flying and then entering it in races – all to become the champion of duck racing. Over the next 14 years, Duck Life has continued to evolve and found new homes and fans on PC, mobile (in partnership with MAD.com), Nintendo Switch and Xbox platforms.

About Duck Life 9: The Flock

Welcome to the newest chapter of the Duck Life series, Duck Life 9: The Flock, where the ducks are still finding new ways to do what they do best – honing their skills and racing their way to the top! Touch down on the tropical archipelago of Featherhaven Island and set up shop in your own little town, ready to rise up the ranks and become the fastest flock there is!

Different Duck stats – Get ready to cultivate the most talented bunch of ducks any farmer has ever had! Start your flock from selection of different eggs, each with unique skill bonuses that affect how well they can utilise their skill levels during races. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, before we hotfoot it to the races it’s time to get your newly-hatched duck to grips with some training!

Training – Becoming the champion won’t be easy, though, as this is hardly a simple matter of training alone. Feed and clothe your ducks to help boost their stats, and then race every challenger you can find! The island itself is filled with many tricky tasks to overcome, and without fully exploring each of the 9 areas that surround your humble settlement, you won’t stand a chance against the mysterious challenger that looms atop the volcano…

9 Island locations – Discover an expansive, vibrant new 3D world sporting luscious meadows, dazzling crystal plains, a floating city and much more. As your ducks broaden their horizons, you mustn’t be afraid to delve a little deeper and discover the secrets that these areas hide, from jelly coins to buried treasure – you never know what could be lurking around each and every corner!

Build your town – As your ambitions grow, so does your flock. Over time you can take your home from a humble campsite to a fully-fledged village, sporting shops, housing, decorations and other interconnected systems that allow the inhabitants to talk to each other and level up their skills. Start your own farm to have more food and drink to go around, or create a town square where learned ducks can stand atop a soapbox and impart their knowledge – it’s up to you!

Become the tournament champion – Filling your flock with a rich mix of feathered friends will help to strengthen the overall group. It’s going to be a team effort if you want to topple the competition! Use your best swimmers for the swimming leg of the race, and your best climbers for the mountainous peaks. You’re only as good as your worst player, so remember to treat all of your ducks with care, and you’ll surely see the fruits of your efforts blossom into a truly remarkable team of ducks!

Duck Life 9: The Flock is available now for PC via Steam and mobile devices. Head over to Steam to try the free demo. Xbox and PlayStation consoles and Nintendo Switch versions will release later in 2024.

First Look: Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense Wireless Controller

If you have been following Astro news as of late, then you know Team ASOBI have been hard at work on a brand-new game coming out on Friday, 6 September. The game features over 50 planets, new powerups, lots of enemies, secrets and PlayStation-infused characters to collect. And it also features a DualSense wireless controller turned into a living character and helping Astro on his mission.

Today, PlayStation Australia and Team ASOBI are excited to announce that players will be able to charge into Astro’s new supersized adventure along with the cool new DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition – check out the full reveal trailer below!

The controller’s design features Astro’s signature blue accents on the handles and buttons, carved-in, sci-fi lines as well as the trademark playful pair of eyes on the touch pad. It is a true work of art, and all involved could not be happier with the end-result.

With this dynamic addition to your set-up, a supersized space adventure awaits…

The DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities for $124.95 and will launch on September 6, day-in-date with the launch of Astro Bot. Starting Friday, 9 August at 10am AEST players will be able to pre-order the DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition from select retailers.

See below for an overview of all the cool things this new Astro Bot game does with the DualSense wireless controller.

First, as many players would expect from an Astro game, you can feel the surfaces that Astro runs and slides on, from grass, sand, metal to more squishy textures or water. That was already the case with Astro’s Playroom, but the team have increased the number of textures players can feel through the controller.

Next, SIE doubled down on the adaptive triggers combined with haptic feedback, by tying them tightly to Astro’s new powers. For example, when using Barkster, the bulldog Jetpack, you can feel the thruster ratting against your finger in synch with the animation, giving a very dynamic and immersive feeling. Every new power up has been given that same special treatment so you will be able to experience various expressions through your fingers.

Finally, given the number of enemies and boss battles we added to this new adventure, it was important to work on battle and impacts by combining all of the above. Whether it’s stretching, pounding or pummeling hard surfaces, there are many new types of impacts that can be experienced in Astro Bot.

And of course, the Dual Speeder, one of Astro’s most recurrent gadgets, allowing him to fly into various planets. The Dual Speeder makes full use of motion control, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.

The team will be back soon for more news around Astro Bot. For more information, head to the PlayStation Blog here

Developed by award-winning NetherRealm Studios, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is set to release digitally on Sept. 25 at 1am AEST for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch™, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).

After repelling the invaders who endangered Fire God Liu Kang’s New Era of peace, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expands the story campaign with an all-new cinematic narrative. When a perilous threat arrives from an alternate timeline, led by the ruthless Titan Havik whose sole mission is to throw the realms into khaos, Liu Kang must rally his champions and put faith in his enemies to defeat this grave danger. Adding to the growing roster of playable fighters, Kombat Pack 2 features returning kombatants Noob Saibot, voiced by Kaiji Tang; Cyrax, voiced by Enuka Okuma; and Sektor, voiced by Erika Ishii, all with unique backstories as part of the reimagined Mortal Kombat 1 Universe. Born into the Zaki, one of the Lin Kuei’s many sub-clans, Cyrax became a martial arts prodigy with an independent streak and untamed desire to serve the clan on her terms, or not at all. Growing up immersed in Lin Kuei culture under the tutelage of her parents, Sektor becomes a master armorer, skilled warrior, and Sub-Zero’s most trusted lieutenant, committed to advancing the clan’s future at all costs.

Kombat Pack 2 alsobrings a new batch of guest fighters into the mix with Ghostface, the recurring identity donned by antagonists from the Scream horror movie franchise, voiced by Roger L. Jackson; T-1000, the liquid metal-based Terminator and deadly cybernetic assassin from the Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) film featuring the voice and likeness of actor Robert Patrick; and Conan the Barbarian, the towering warrior from the Conan the Barbarian (1982) film featuring the likeness of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Additionally, Animalities, the fan-favourite finishing moves will be returning as a free content update for all Mortal Kombat 1 owners. Allowing characters to morph into their spirit animal to annihilate defeated opponents, Animalities can be performed by all playable fighters and will be available in conjunction with the Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns release. Furthermore, all owners of Mortal Kombat 1 will receive a free MK 95 Scorpion character skin, inspired by the original Mortal Kombat (1995) film, available today.
