ABOUT CHERNOBYLITE 2: EXCLUSION ZONE

Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone – a sequel to highly appraised Chernobylite, is a post-apocalyptic action-RPG game, mixing free exploration of a huge and extremely realistic open world, challenging combat, unique crafting, team, and base management with non-linear, immersive storytelling.

The original game has built a huge and dedicated community, becoming the second most-funded Polish video game on Kickstarter (after Superhot), one of the most successful Early Access campaigns on Steam in 2019, and one of the best 2021 Steam post-Early-Access releases. Over the last 5 years, The Farm 51 has constantly been upgrading and expanding the Chernobylite world with tons of massive free updates, releasing the game on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and currently working on bringing the game to Switch.

Following the vast amount of feedback gathered on Chernobylite from players, Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone introduces the elements most anticipated when compared to the original game: a vast open world and a gameplay model in line with the most canonical action RPGs. The plot, player character development, exploration, combat, weapons and gadgets, the number of side characters, and relationships with other story characters – each of these elements is expanded many times over the predecessor, providing more opportunities to build your version of the story of survival in the mysterious and sinister Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.

The 3D-scanned post-apocalyptic world of Chornobyl has been given incomparably more detail and has been further enhanced with countless ambient elements brought by Chernobylite from other dimensions thanks to Unreal Engine 5 and Nanite, as well as Reality 51’s scanning technology, which The Farm 51 has been developing for over ten years.

Now The Farm 51 team is proud to be working hard on delivering the best possible RPG experience set in the post-apocalyptic Chernobyl and soon will be ready to share more details about gameplay, story, and the scope of the game.

Food Fight and Raffles Comes To Antstream This Week

  • Eat ice cream and explore a strange mansion in this week’s newly added titles.
  • Also enjoy a Super Spy challenge and the Zombies At My Neighbors Summer Tournament.

London,13th August: As the sun beats down, Antstream are set to add two more games to the leading retro streaming service. Food Fight (Arcade) pits the player against four angry chefs, while Raffles (Amiga) challenges the player to find gems hidden in a strange house. Both titles launch on Antstream this week.

When it comes to challenges, this week players can try their hand at “Ho Ho Ho, I Got A Machine Gun” in The Super Spy (Arcade). Explore the building and shoot as many enemies as you can. Get a high score before the time runs out, or you sleep with the fishes.

It is also nearly time to enjoy the Summer 2024 tournament, played in Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES). Starting on August 13th at 2pm GMT, the challenge is called Neighborhood Watch.

Atari’s Food Fight originally came to arcades in 1983. The game was later released for various Atari systems and was previously a VCS exclusive until now.

In Food Fight, players take on the role of Charley Chuck, whose objective is simply to eat a slowly melting ice cream. However, four angry chefs, called Oscar, Angelo, Jacques and Zorba, are determined to stop Charley. Chefs will appear from holes on the screen and then chase Charley. The level is also filled with various foods that can be used by both Charley and the chefs as projectiles, and Charley will lose a life if he is hit by thrown food, touched by a chef, falls down a hole or fails to eat the ice cream before it melts.

Raffles is an isometric action-adventure game, launched in 1988. The game, released by The Edge, started out as Inside Outing when the game was released for ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64, but was changed to Raffles in 1989 for launch on Atari ST and Amiga.

In the game, the widow of an eccentric millionaire hires a professional thief, the player, to locate the gems hidden in the Manor. The player must explore each isometric room, interacting with all of the usual furnishings, to find the often clever hiding places of the treasure. Unfortunately, the late millionaire had an interest in genetically engineering his pets, so it may not be the easiest job. The player has only three lives and will lose one on contact with any of these strange creatures. Good luck!

Whether trying to eat an ice cream or avoid strange creatures in a mansion, Antstream players will be able to use the cloud system to pause and resume the action whenever they choose. Newly added titles are coming to the service each and every week, ensuring there is always something new to discover in Antstream’s massive library.

“A classic Atari arcade game and an isometric adventure join the library this week. Two very different titles, they are both great fun and are a very welcome addition to Antstream.” – Steve Cottam, CEO of Antstream.

Antstream Arcade is the world’s largest official library of retro games to stream, with more than 1300 titles available to play on multiple devices, including PC, mobile, Samsung TV, Linux and Xbox. With local co-op, weekly tournaments, hundreds of challenges and a global leaderboard to climb, there are plenty of new ways to play classic games, and Antstream’s cloud system instantly saves game progress so players can put down and pick up games at any time.

Antstream Arcade retails at £39.99, giving the player unrestricted access to all 1300+ games and all tournaments, challenges and more for an entire year. For a limited time, players can also purchase the lifetime subscription for a one-off payment of £99.99, currently on Xbox only.

Antstream Arcade is the world’s largest officially licensed retro game platform, featuring more than 1300 games available to stream. The extensive and impressive catalogue includes titles from the early systems like the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64, to Arcade classics and games from SNES, Megadrive, and PlayStation One, and even features newly developed arcade games. Tournaments and challenges mean that these classic games can be played in new ways, allowing players to compete with the active community. With the gaming service accessible on a multitude of devices, including PC, mobile, Xbox, and more, Antstream ensures you can enjoy gaming anytime, anywhere!

Developer Owlcat Games Moves Into Publishing Space

Two New RPGs Signed For Publishing

Nicosia, Cyprus (August 13, 2024) — Renowned RPG developer Owlcat Games, the studio behind critically acclaimed titles such as Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and Pathfinder: Kingmaker, has announced its ambition to become a publisher. Alongside its development efforts, from now on, Owlcat will focus on helping independent teams across the globe introduce their own RPGs and narrative-driven games to players. Owlcat will ensure its new partners have all the services, funding, and expert advice they need to create new role-playing experiences.

“We would like to work with teams that share our passion for telling captivating stories through narrative-driven games. These might not fall entirely into the RPG genre, but they will definitely have a solid focus on story, characters, and worldbuilding. We have already walked the path of creating our dream game, and now we have the expertise and resources to guide other teams to the games of their dreams as well,” said Andrey Tsvetkov, Head of Publishing at Owlcat Games.

After reviewing more than 50 projects, Owlcat has signed deals with two talented development teams — Emotion Spark Studio, based in Serbia, and Another Angle Games, based in Poland.

Emotion Spark Studio is working on a narrative RPG called Rue Valley. It is a story about a man trapped in a mysterious time loop during a psychotherapy session. Dealing with mental challenges, the main character must rise from the depths, delving into the anomaly to uncover its enigmatic origins.

Another Angle Games is creating an isometric RPG in an alternate history setting of feudal Japan called Shadow of the Road. It is an immersive story about samurai, honor, and allegiance, combined with a deep tactical turn-based combat system in a world filled with magical yokai and deadly steampunk technology.

Both titles are still in the early stages of development, with more information to be shared later this month at gamescom.

Owlcat Games has also gained full control over the publishing label META Publishing, which acted as a publishing partner to bring Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous to PC and console storefronts in 2021. META Publishing follows a strategy of its own and focuses on gameplay-first titles with co-op multiplayer features.

The label has a solid portfolio of launched games including Biped, Spirit of the Island, Train Valley, Train Valley 2 and others. New upcoming titles from the META Publishing portfolio will be presented later this month at gamescom, including Biped 2, the sequel to the successful puzzle action-adventure game from 2020, and Nested Lands, a new game from the Brazilian studio 1M Bits Horde, the creators of Spirit of the Island.

Embark on a brilliant adventure, using words and incompetence to solve bizarre problems and unravel a surprisingly wholesome story about embracing and empowering the real you while you bother a chaotic cast of characters, from potion witches and sweaty musclemancers, to a bombastic policewoman and a pyromancer who’s just fed up, to be honest. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter Review

Star Wars Bounty Hunter

Developer: Aspyr
Publisher: Aspyr
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (Reviewed), Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $19.99 USD – Available Here

Overview

Long ago, I got really into Star Wars. Oddly enough, I discovered the franchise during The Phantom Menace, and fell in love with the universe Lucas created almost instantly. The thing was, there wasn’t a lot of worthy video game representation until the Playstation 2. One of the finest titles was Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, which put players in the role of Jango Fett. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but it did have mechanics that were a sight to behold as well as a pretty interesting narrative. All these years later, Aspyr have brought us a remaster of sorts for the modern era. Is this title worth its weight, or is this one that was better left in the past? Let’s find out.

Story

The story here is worth the gate of entry. Players take the role of Jango Fett as he works to collect bounties and take out a dark force within the Jedi. The whole plot is a bit campy, but works well to give us a tale amongst a little known part of this universe, which for its time was pretty neat. You won’t find anything too groundbreaking here, but the plot is easy to follow and a lot of fun to watch unfold, full of cameos and references to other famous characters in this smaller adventure.

Gameplay

So the main concept of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is to hunt targets by utilizing the gadgets and arsenal Jango Fett has at his disposal. Players have the famed jetpack, which can allow for short flights. They also can shoot different weapons and even tie up enemies. Rewards are provided for scanning targets who may have bounties, so the goal is not just to clear levels, but to make as much money as possible by capturing targets as you progress through the story.

Its simple enough to understand, but man is it clunky. Even walking feels extremely dated here, as at times it seems Jango wants to crabwalk when just targeting enemies. Shooting works fine, but with very little collision detection involved – it seems as if you are just hitting character models that collapse. Capturing enemies however does feel kind of nice as Jango can use a rope to tie up foes, and that works fine enough, but they may break out if left there too long. I say the latter because sometimes the action button has difficulty registering there is an action to make, which leads to the player hitting the command with no result as the enemy begins to get away again. No, this didn’t really happen much during the original, it is an issue with this port/remaster.

Listen, I play older games a lot. I have a lot of nostalgia and even played the ported version of this a while back on the same platform I reviewed this version. Is it clunky? Yes, but that version of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was playable. I had so many game crashes during my time with this version that I really wonder if testing was involved at all. Aspyr has been doing a few of these ports with mixed results, and this one wasn’t ready yet. On top of crashes, the standard clunk feels even worse now, blending somewhere between frustrating and boring. Bounty Hunter was never a difficult game, but one that now feels too cumbersome in its current state to be worth it.

Audio

If anything works fine, it’s the audio. The original voice acting and in-game cutscenes look fine, and the music will make you feel right at home in this universe. Could it have used a bit of an upgrade? Yes, as the sound effects are a bit dated and may sound cleaner, but also come off as a bit grating due to their awkward nature. It’s kind of like watching an old 70’s film. There is a lot of cheese in the dialogue delivery, and I think some improvements could have at least made it feel less like that as a whole.

Visuals

This is pretty bad, but the original also had some of the same problems. Characters, including Jango – clip through walls a lot. Through walls, through each other, yeah – there are a lot of rough edges here that are not really acceptable. Important characters sometimes disappear behind scenery, and the shooting looks as stiff as the combat ultimately feels. It’s one thing to port a game from long ago and to keep it in its original state even if it was far from perfect. It’s another to somehow make it worse. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is the latter in this case.

Overall

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is not a good port or remaster. While the original wasn’t known for its quality, it had some groundbreaking techniques used in gameplay that sometimes deserve credit. This release however fails to highlight the jetpack or the bounty options, instead burying everything notable under glitches and crashes. If you can make it through that, there is something playable here somewhat. That said, the original release which was ported on modern consoles is still better than this as it has so much less issue simply playing. Star Wars is great, but Aspyr missed the mark with this version. Wait for a patch or give it a pass, as this bounty is just too steep in this state for entry.

Demo for detective horror title Nowhere investigates Steam this week

Take on a haunting, ritualistic case and become a true detective on August 15th

Leamington Spa, United Kingdom – 13th August 2024 – Solo indie developer, Midnight Forge is today thrilled to announce that a PC demo for its upcoming detective horror title Nowhere will be available to download via Steam on Thursday, 15th August.

To coincide with the announcement, a brand-new demo trailer has been released offering a glimpse of the terrors that await those brave enough to take on the case later this week.

Nowhere | Nordic Detective Horror Game | Demo Trailer

Nowhere is an upcoming hardcore-detective-horror game, which effortlessly blends immersive investigative gameplay, classic survival horror mechanics and a rich, mysterious narrative together with a highly-atmospheric Nordic locale.

Set deep within the forests of Norway, the game sees players step into the hiking boots of a detective on the hunt for a group of missing tourists. It quickly becomes apparent that there is more to the disappearances than initially meets the eye, as the investigation takes a supernatural twist; plunging players headfirst into a unique and terrifying spin on Norse mythology and will see them piece together the doomed story of the gods after Ragnarök.

The demo features approximately 20-30 minutes of gameplay, serving up just a taste of what will be available in the full game. Players will investigate multiple sites of interest as they begin to piece together the puzzling disappearance of the missing campers and uncover the secrets of an archaic and haunting ritual. It won’t be easy though, as unimaginable horrors lurk within the shadows beneath the pines.

Nowhere Features

  • A unique tale of Norse mythology. Uncover the impact and conflicts caused by a new religion during the Viking Age, and find out what happened to the Norse Gods in the final years of their worship.
  • The perfect blend of Detective Mystery and Survival Horror. A highly-suspenseful experience, Nowhere utilises a slow build up of tension to instil fear and dread, instead of jumpscares.
  • Non-Linear Open World. Explore and investigate multiple creepy locations across the highly-atmospheric scandinavian-forest at your own pace.
  • Realistic Investigation Mechanics. Nowhere will make you feel like a true detective. Conduct your own investigation then make your own connections and draw your own conclusions; search for clues while inspecting sites of interest.
  • Dynamic Shifting Environment. As the sound of a horn blares in the distance, the forest twists and corrupts around you, transforming into a nightmare version of itself. Draugr stalk you from the shadows, waiting until your back is turned. Run! Hide! Fight! Survive!

Nowhere is now in development for PC and is currently targeting an early 2025 launch. It is available to wishlist now via Steam.
