The Latest in the Yars Franchise Gets an Official Comic, Just Like the Classic 1982 Yars’ Revenge
New York, NY (October 4, 2024) — Today, Atari and renowned comic publisher IDW Publishing have announced a partnership to release an official single-issue companion comic book set in the world of Yars Rising, Atari’s and developer WayForward’s newest entry in the decades-spanning Yars universe. The 32-page comic acts as a prequel to the events of the game, and will be available online and in traditional comic book retail stores on November 13 for $4.99.
Yars Rising is the latest offering in a 40-year-old video game franchise that began in 1982 with the release of Yars’ Revenge for the Atari 2600 home console. In an industry first, Atari paired the game cartridge at retail with a comic book. The comic gave players a view into the expansive backstory behind the 8-bit game and set the stage for their on-screen campaign.
Written by WayForward Game Director Adam Tierney, Yars Rising #1 acts as a prequel to an entirely new Yars story that unfolds within the video game. The comic follows the lead character, professional hacker Emi Kimura, as she and her friends try to navigate the ramifications of a job gone horribly wrong. As the story progresses, readers are given a taste and perhaps some subtle hints about what awaits them in the game.

Hot off of this year’s 2024 Tokyo Game Show feature and a recent trailer reveal, brutal comic book-inspired action-meets-stealth platformer SteamDolls – Order Of Chaos has debuted abrand new demo on Steam (live today, October 3rd, at 11am EST / 8am PST). This new demo was long in the making and is now taking over the game’s old “Concept Demo” page from 2019. This demo contains the prologue sequence to the game. Current plans are for this demo to be available for the time being in order for long-time followers of the game (and new fans alike) to receive immediate access, but then to be migrated to a separate sub-page of the main game ahead of the next upcoming Steam NextFest, of which the game is participating in. On October 14th, the game will debut a limited-time extended demo on the aforementioned new demo application page.
The title, originally teased to the public back in 2019, boasts a reunion of AAA voice actors from the Metal Gear Solid franchise (no relation to studio), including David Hayter, Christopher Randolph, and Jennifer Hale. It bills itself as a unique stealth-meets-metroidvania experience, with brutal combat and deep levels of exploration. The demo trailer can be viewed below:
Originally conceived in 2019 based on a comic book from the development studio and then Kickstarted soon after, SteamDolls has been a passion project of its director. A small concept demo was originally launched at the time of original conception, which acted as a small preview of the original title. Since then, the game has changed significantly, undergoing a significant visual upgrade as well as an overhaul of gameplay. The original concept demo, which acted as a vertical slice presentation of the game’s concept, will be launched out of Early Access with this new updated demo replacing such. A separate, longer extended demo will be available separately for the upcoming Steam Nextfest.

Heihachi Mishima makes his return to TEKKEN 8 pushing the game’s roster to 35 characters. He is the third DLC of the Season Pass 1, joining Eddy and Lidia. The King of Iron Fist, seemingly dead at the end of TEKKEN 7 has managed to cheat death and is back with an evolved style, learned thanks to his time with the Tekken monks.
In addition to Heihachi, a new stage, the Genmaji temple is also available for individual purchase. But that’s not all, as the 1.08 version of the game comes with new free content. A new Story Mode, Unforgotten Echoes, has been added. Happening in parallel of TEKKEN 8 main story, it follows Eddy, Lidia and Heihachi and gives more details about how Heihachi managed to survive his fate in TEKKEN 7. In this mode, Eddy, Lidia and Heihachi are playable even for players who don’t own the characters.
New features have also appeared, such as the much-requested possibility to put any character in the TEKKEN 8 main menu, or the possibility to practice online with friends in the TEKKEN Fight Lounge.
