PlayTV™ to launch in Australia

Introducing PlayTV™, the device that turns PlayStation®3 into a Personal Video Recorder and High Definition digital TV tuner, available 26th November 2009.

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Aust.) announced today the introduction of PlayTV™ – the device that turns PlayStation®3 (PS3™) into a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and High Definition digital TV tuner. PlayTV will be available in Australia on 26 November at a compelling recommended retail price of $169.95 and is set to become a favourite on the gift lists in time for the festive season.

With the ability to watch, pause and record free-to-air TV, PlayTV reinforces PS3’s rightful place at the heart of the family’s home entertainment needs. With twin HD tuners, PlayTV allows you to watch one program while recording another, or even record while playing a game or enjoying a Blu-ray movie. PlayTV offers a simple solution to the Australian family’s TV needs.

PlayTV also makes it possible to watch TV programs on the go via Remote Play on PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) or via WiFi or 3G with Sony Ericsson’s AINO phone.

PlayTV provides the sort of features you’ll only find on top of the range PVRs:

Two High Definition TV tuners: both able to watch, pause and record TV in High Definition, as well as Standard Definition. Ability to record TV while playing games or watching a Blu-ray movie or DVD.
Electronic Program Guide: an incredibly user-friendly, seven-day interface, that provides the navigation for programming the PVR features of PlayTV – it’s fast and simple to use, with either SIXAXIS™ controller or the Blu-ray Remote Control for PS3.
Compatibility: PlayTV operates on the widely available Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T) format.

Hidden 3.10 Feature: Report Playstation 3 Crashes

Something really interesting also very useful for anyone thats had problems with their Playstation 3 crashing after the firmware update for 3.10

Sony have added a new feature that was unannounced in Firmware 3.10, (screenshot below).

If your Playstation 3 crashes, and you turn it off without pressing the PS button and selecting ‘Turn off system’, next time you boot up you can send an error report to Sony. Hopefully, all this information can help Sony find problems with the PS3 to patch up.

Resident Evil 2 is re-launching today as a digital download to the Playstation 3 and PSP. Now you can relive all the fun of running for your live and trying to survive in Racoon City as Leon and Claire all over again.

Now I can’t confirm prices just yet. And looks like at the moment its only available in North America via the Playstation Network. If your in the US, login and check it out. Should be availabe as we speak.

We’re proud to announce that, with its focus on epic, sci-fi storytelling, Dark Void has been tapped by Brad Pitt’s production company to be developed into a full fledged movie:

Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment, under its Creative Partnership with Reliance BIG Entertainment, and Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, have come to terms on the film rights relating to Dark Void™, a new property from Capcom. The theatrical version of the Dark Void game is being developed as a sci-fi action franchise and potential starring vehicle for Pitt.

Announcing Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition

Capcom are pleased to confirm today that a variety of new content for the hugely successful RESIDENT EVIL 5 will be available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 next year. The plan is to release two new downloadable episodes, a host of new costumes, and a new “MERCENARIES REUNION” mode featuring 8 new playable characters and weapon load outs.

For those RESIDENT EVIL fans who prefer a box copy, I’m happy to report that a RESIDENT EVIL 5: GOLD EDITION will be released, that will include the original game plus all additional content, making this the ultimate Resident Evil 5 experience. RESIDENT EVIL 5: GOLD EDITION will be available for $49.99 as a single Blu-ray disc for the PLAYSTATION 3 or as a DVD with a token for the downloadable content for XBOX 360.
