Everybody’s favourite blue hedgehog has managed to race his way around the world, causing it to spin on its axis, thus making time move backwards. Okay, maybe he can’t run that fast, but on the plus side, a blast from the past will soon be appearing on Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and mobile devices. Sega have released a new trailer to celebrate the release of Sonic CD to a range of different gaming networks, allowing players the chance to get a glimpse at Sonic’s origins. Sonic CD will be released later this year, in the mean time, check out the trailer below.

GTA 3 has officially hit double digits
Ahhh Grand Theft Auto 3, we had some good times. You were my first rebellion against the cruel games rating system, I didn’t let a silly thing like restrictions or letters get in the way of my love for you. That’s right, I’m showing some hookers who’s boss in my downtime between running over grandmas and I’m only ten years old, what up?
Rockstar has released a 10-year anniversary video making me feel really old and this Saturday they’ll be re-releasing the game to celebrate the anniversary. The video has succeeded in making me feel all nostalgic, which is probably what they’re aiming for, and looking back at those graphics just shows you how far we’ve come in terms of technology. GTA 3 introduced the gaming industry to open world games, creating a whole new genre which has now become incredibly popular.
The re-release will be available on iOS and Android phones, and no release date has been given, but as more information comes up we’ll keep you informed.
Congratulations for a very successful franchise Rockstar, ten years on and you’re still getting those under 15s to rebel against the ratings board and seek out your game so they can do all sorts of illegal and fun things.
Check out the video below and let us know what your GTA 3 memories are.
Harvest Moon’s Tale of Two Towns 3DS version finally arriving on November 1st
Natsume has finally nailed down a release date for the oft delayed Nintendo 3DS version of Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns. Despite being delayed a few times now, Natsume has annouced that the next time we can expect the title to be released is on November 1st. This means that the 3DS version will be released a month and a half after the release of the DS version on September 20th. Pre-orders will soon be available, though the title can be pre-ordered nearly anywhere that games are sold.
This will mark the first release of a Harvest Moon title on the 3D handheld, though Marvelous AQL has announced that they are developing Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin exclusively for the 3DS instead of as a port. Currently this title is only slated for release in Japan however, and Natsume has made no announcement whether or not they would be localizing this title as well.
Toki Tori 2 is coming, want to help it hatch?
Ten years ago this little guy made his debut on the Game Boy Colour in Toki Tori, a puzzle platformer from first time developers Two Tribes. The game had the young chick tracking down the eggs of his unborn brothers and sisters, making use of tools like bridges, teleporting and a freeze gun to traverse some tricky landscapes.
It may sound bizarre but the game was highly rated on release, being praised for it’s intelligent puzzles and charm. Indeed it’s still around today, having undergone several upgrades and re releases over the past decade.
Anyone who missed out on some chicken based platforming can find the original in various forms on WiiWare, Android, Steam and iOs – so you have no excuse but to fill that egg shaped hole in your gaming history!
Intrigued by the little guy and being one of those people with no excuse, I downloaded the iOs version. It’s a great little game with a definite focus on the puzzle side of things, the levels are definitely cranking up the difficulty and it looks gorgeous- the above screenshot is from the Steam version but they look nigh on identical.
Toki Tori 2
A decade later and the Dutch developers have announced that Toki will be back for an all new second adventure – and they want fans to help them out.
‘We’re starting with a super-early version of Toki Tori 2, which is basically interactive concept art, running on Steam for people to try out’, said Collin van Ginkel, creative director at Two Tribes, “we’re very excited to be able to involve the Two Tribes community in such a direct way!”
The original 200 spots on the open development programme have all been snapped up, but Two Tribes are promising more to come next week. Participants will get access to the previously mentioned early build and no doubt others to come -the developers will also be directly accessible via Twitter.
There are going to be a few changes from the first game now that the team are no longer limited by Game Boy era tech – Toki will no longer be able to use items but will make use of other creatures roaming the world instead. Berry eating bubble monsters will belch out a bubble when scared by Toki, providing him with a portable bubble suit – sounds good!
If the little fella has caught your eye, check out the announcement trailer below. Anyone interested in having a hand in the development of Toki Tori 2 should send a quick e-mail to the developers at: [email protected]
The full game is due to hatch in Spring next year and will initially release on Steam, but as with Toki Tori will eventually find it’s way to multiple platforms.
FIFA 12 Patch Available Now
As promised by EA Sports, they have released a patch for FIFA 12 which aims to fix some of the issues experienced with the game, mainly online and in FIFA Ultimate Team.
The first big one was removing the ability for players to select the goalkeeper to control, leaving the CPU to do the defending for them in a cheap way. EA Sports decided that enough people were abusing this feature to make it an issue, and thus it was appropriate to get rid of it, however the function is still available offline.
Other changes include fixing the FUT loading problems and crashes, hanging problems when downloading a game face, and the online situation where a player could switch to the other team during the match.
The patch is now available for download for 360 and PS3. Are there other things you want EA to still patch? Let us know down below.
Christina Hendricks and Sean Faris star in Need for Speed The Run
What does the Need for Speed franchise need? Well if your answer is an Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actress then you’re in luck. EA has announced that Need for Speed The Run will star the gorgeous Mad Men star, Christina Hendricks, as well as Vampire Diaries actor Sean Faris.
Christina Hendricks, famous for her curves and attitude, again takes on a strong female lead as Sam Harper. Sam manages the best drivers in the world of illegal racing, and she has her eye on Faris’ character, Jack Rourke. Sam fronts Jack to enter the race and guides him through the race-for-your-life game.
Powered by Frostbite 2 (the same engine used for the mind boggling graphics in Battlefield 3), the graphics are sure to be superior especially with their all-new capture technology. They are pushing the boundaries in terms of character animation, and hopefully it pays off.
For both actors this is their first game role, and they both seemed to enjoy themselves.
“It’s very exciting to be part of Need for Speed The Run. I’ve never been a video game character before so this is definitely a first for me. It’s been fantastic fun to do something so different and to show a different side of myself as well,” said Christina Hendricks.
Developed by Black Box, an EA studio, Need for Speed The Run will be available November 17, 2011 in Australia on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii and Nintendo 3DS.
Raving Rabbids: Alive and Kicking looks more interactive than ever
Ubisoft have brought the Rabbids back and they are as cute and totally insane as usual. Rabbids Alive & Kicking is the new Kinect game that takes the Rabbid’s key interactive features to a whole new level.
Check out the Augmented reality trailer below that shows off the Rabbids new way of invading our home entertainment system. It looks like it’s going to be a very active game, and hopefully the Kinect’s sensitivity will be enough to pick up the full extent of all the crazy stuff the Rabbids will make us do.
Rabbids Alive & Kicking will be available on the Xbox360 Kinect on November 1 for US and November 3 for Aussies.
Nintendogs + cats gets some high profile spokespeople
Nintendogs + cats has gotten its own spokespeople from quite a range of sources. The RSPCA has officially endorsed the game, with RSPCA Parternships Manager Kellie Rutherford saying “The RSPCA science team spent many hours with nintendogs + cats to ensure it was a game that promoted responsible ownership of a puppy or kitten. Every aspect of the game was carefully looked over to ensure it aligned with the RSCPA’s key messages”.
The second endorsement comes from Australian Idol runner-up and popular Australian singer, Jessica Mauboy. Jessica will be appearing in the new Nintendogs + cats adds and had this to say about the game, “If like me, you just don’t have the lifestyle where you can look after a puppy or kitten of your own – whether you travel a lot, live in an apartment, or work long hours – nintendogs + cats is the perfect companion for you”.
Nintendogs + cats is available on the Nintendo 3DS now.
