Binary Domain’s Hollow Children have been around for decades

Today Sega has released a new video for Binary Domain and rather than focusing on action or gameplay, we are treated to a five and a half minute cutscene pertaining to the assassination attempt on Mr. Bergen. Not only do we see how someone who believed they were completely human killed outright as soon as it was revealed he was a robot, but we also learn more about the Hollow Children.

In the video you can see below we learn that the man who tried to assassinate Mr. Bergen has been around for at least thirty years before its destruction and that Hollow Children believe that they are 100% human. Though this would be a bit odd, because metal detectors would just be going nuts anytime a Hollow Child went near them… Still, we’ll know much more next month on February 24th in Europe and February 28th in North America when the game is released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

THQ drops out of children’s market, focuses on core titles

0

It seems that the children’s video game market isn’t as profitable as it once was because THQ has revealed that they plan to drop all licensed kid games entirely and will instead focus their efforts on their core selection of video games such as Saints Row: The Third which has sold 3.8 million copies so far.

This news comes from an investors meeting held by THQ where CEO Brian Farrell had this to say “THQ will be a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises. The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve. We have now shipped 3.8 million units globally and are currently expecting to ship between five and six million units lifetime on this title.” He also went on to say that the DLC for Saints Row is their most profitable ever.

  • September: Map, mission

There is much more to Final Fantasy XIII-2 than battles according to latest trailer

While you will be spending most of your time in Final Fantasy XIII-2 progressing the story and battling against various enemies in the touched up battle system, there are plenty of other things to do besides that. Today Square Enix has released the final gameplay trailer and this time around it focuses on everything else you can do besides the main story.

The video itself can be seen below and shows a number of extra features such as the side quests that can be completed for rewards, as well as a casino area named “Serendipity” that contains your average slot machines as well as the exciting Chocobo Racing mini-game. Also shown is some footage of Captain Cryptic’s “Confounding Quiz” which seems to have players listen in on the citizens of a city and then track Captain Cryptic down and answer his question for an unspecified reward.

Also shown are the various puzzle sections of the game that players must solve to continue in the main story and find Lightning. As you can see in the video these puzzles vary greatly and while some may seem easy, expect some difficult ones to pop up here and there so it may be best to brush up on your puzzle solving skills as the release for FFXIII-2 is less than a week away now.

A quick look at the new Detective Conan game and movie

NamcoBandai recently unveiled a short teaser trailer called Detective Conan: Prelude from the Past, a video game based on the highly popular anime franchise of the same name.

Players will take control of Conan himself, a young teenage Detective trapped inside the body of his own child form. The game will star several of the main characters from the franchise, and it will involve solving cases from the franchise’s past with a new twist.

The trailer also shows bits of the upcoming movie, Detective Conan: The Eleventh Striker, and it will be the 16th movie of this franchise.

Detective Conan: Prelude from the Past is set to be released for the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS in Japan sometime in 2012. The movie, Detective Conan: The Eleventh Striker, will release in Japanese theatres on April 14 2012.

SoulCalibur V Rumored for the 3DS

It’s been a good while since SoulCalibur has seen a Nintendo platform, but if the latest rumors are true, that may change soon. Retailers have began listing SoulCalibur V for the 3DS as of recent for pre-order, and fans have now been foaming at the mouth at even the mere possibility.

As of now though, nothing has been confirmed from Gamestop, Namco Bandai, or any other party, but I would expect someone to step in soon to clear up any confusion. If you think about it though, this sounds very plausible. Dead or Alive, Blazblue, and Street Fighter have all seen a bit of success on the handheld thus far, and SoulCalibur would be very welcome considering how well the slide pad actually works for fighters. Also, Link making a reappearance? I’ll take ten.

Punch Out!! to Join the 3DS’ Virtual Console

Little Mac is back! Nintendo of Japan have just announced the latest 3D Classic, and it is none other than the much loved Punch Out!! for the NES. This 3D version of Punch Out!! will be available in Japan on February 2nd at 500 yen.

As of now, a western release is inevitable, so we all should expect seeing an announcement sometime soon. Honestly though, with all the recent life on the Virtual Console and eShop as of late, this year is looking like a good year to own a 3DS and this re-release of Punch-Out!! is just gravy in comparison to the upcoming likes of Mutant Mudds and Kid Icarus. Stay tuned as well and when Nintendo share details of a release date, we will sure to bring you an update.

Gamestop Offering Gaming Classics as Rewards

0

Gamestop…Classic Games? Don’t adjust your monitors. This is a thing that is happening. As of now, Power Up Rewards members can now redeem their hard earned points for actual cartridges of some of gaming’s greatest.

So what games are up for grabs? The likes of Mortal Kombat (SNES), Mario Bros. (NES), Super Star Wars (SNES), and several other common yet famous titles. This all sounds like a fantastic idea at first, but then you can look at the point prices, which tell a different story. Mortal Kombat commonly goes online for $5.00. Gamestop are asking a whopping 30,000 points for one, presumably used cartridge of the same exact game. Atari cartridges are also promised to be coming soon, with even E.T. getting on the action. With these prices though, I just don’t see this taking off.

I may sound overly negative about the whole thing, but think about it. It takes a lot of trades and purchases to gain 30,000 points and when you compare the point value (which is generally 20 points per dollar) to the asking price here, you can do much better by just cashing in for vouchers or gift cards and finding these gems in a pawn shop for pennies on the dollar. Admirable idea, Gamestop, but a rather poor execution.

The Power Up Rewards as a whole though is a GOOD idea and free is still free, so those who have no other options available when it comes to snagging up their classic titles might want to look into this. Everyone else…well…just save for that new controller.
