WANE, an Occult Turn-Based RPG Where Your Memory is Your Map, Revealed in the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct

0

Journey through the fractured memories of a fading archaeologist as you build your party and uncover the secrets buried within the realm of Ravelle.

Istanbul, Türkiye (September 20, 2026) – You’ve been invited inside a haunted mind, as Metis Creative unveils WANE, an occultish turn-based RPG set against the backdrop of an industrial noir world. Published in partnership with Shoreline Games, WANE follows Declan Wayne, a fading archaeologist tormented by his fading sense of self. As Declan turns inward, he must traverse the corridors of his mind, a labyrinth drawn from memory, distorted by regret, and guarded by what he cannot let go.

Watch the reveal trailer:

“Metis Creative has the kind of imagination that makes you want to pay attention to whatever they’re working on next,” said Keith Kawamura, CEO of Shoreline Games. “Having already had the chance to work with the team once before, we knew firsthand just how thoughtful and inventive they are. WANE is a fantastic example of that creativity, and from the moment we saw what the team was creating, we knew we wanted to help bring it to players. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Metis again and finally begin sharing WANE with the world.”

“Metis Creative has found success in our ability to produce high-quality, original visuals that match a deep and engaging narrative across several award-winning tabletop games,” said Sarp Duyar, CEO of Metis Creative. “Our vision with WANE is to continue that tradition across a totally new medium for us and push the boundaries of our creativity.”

In WANE, players take on the role of Declan Wayne, a fading archaeologist whose fractured memories have transformed his cerebral realm of Ravelle into a shifting labyrinth of trauma, obsession, and regret. Players recruit adventurers, build a three-person party, and descend through three distinct biomes in grid-based tactical combat shaped by attrition, random encounters, and boss battles.

Between expeditions, players return to an antiquarian shop to appraise and sell relics, upgrade facilities, and fund the next run. As the roguelike cycle continues, new synergies, shortcuts, and permanent buffs open up while the story unfolds through repeated journeys deeper into Ravelle.

Key Features of WANE:

  • Memory is the Map – Ravelle is a labyrinth built from Declan’s deteriorating memories, with his defining moments, traumas, obsessions, and regrets shaping the path forward… and reshaping it entirely.
  •  Tactical Turn-Based Combat – Fight through grid-based tactical encounters built around positioning, cover and line of sight, with the uncertainty of percentage-based attacks.
  • Rule of Three – Descend through the Ravellian Sanatorium, the Palace of Arvanshah, and the Death Pilgrimage to Erabel, each of the three biomes connected to Ravelle’s history and Declan’s fractured memories.
  • Run the Shop – Bring relics back from expeditions to appraise and auction in Declan’s antiquarian shop, using the proceeds to upgrade facilities and fund future runs.
  • A Story Told Through Repetition – WANE’s narrative unfolds across repeated expeditions, revealing more of its characters and Declan’s story with each run.

WANE is currently in development for PC. Additional details and a release date will be announced at a later date.

Radioactive Roguelike City-builder Toxic Frontier Unveiled during PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct 2026

Play your cards right and you might just survive another night in this post-nuclear hex grid hellscape

Oviedo, Spain – September 20, 2026 – Meteorbyte Studios and Mint Gate Games are glowing with excitement (or is that radiation poisoning?) to reveal their upcoming card-based survival strategy game, Toxic Frontier. Positively oozing with toxic sludge, Toxic Frontier features a crunchy retro aesthetic and worrying slithery shapes.

Played out across a traditional hex grid, you’ll start from a single humble tile and begin your settlement’s perilous pilgrimage into the wastes. Purifying the noxious landscape with each card you place on a tile, you’ll discover synergies that change how each run plays. Just make sure you reach the target score on each level, or you’ll soon run out of cards and your legend in the frontier will come to an abrupt, irradiated end.

As you explore the decimated wilds, you’ll uncover tiles and cards that react in new and unexpected ways to both your cards and the other tiles around them, creating complex and powerful combos. Plan your synergies carefully, and you might just increase your odds of survival from “soon to be mutant chow” to “might make it to the next bowl of rat soup”.

The journey to rebooting civilization is a long and arduous one, and will lead your community across three vastly different biomes, each with their own stories to tell, quests to uncover, and unique mechanics. They each also come with entirely new ways to claim the lives of your hardy band of travellers… if you make it that far in the first place.

Locked underground for generations, tales of the surface have become exactly that; legends passed down via oral tradition of a world filled with sunlight, grass, and non-recycled air. As your band of nuclear nomads sets out to reclaim the wilderness, you will have to make a choice: create a bountiful haven of the wastes, or harness the all-corrupting power of the Toxic Frontier.

Key features of Toxic Frontier:

  • Play the hand you’re dealt: +40 unique cards to unlock and collect
  • Turn the toxic tide: Increasingly complex and potent tile synergies to discover
  • Don’t forget your Geiger counter: New challenges and threats to face in every biome
  • Radioactive replayability: 4 game modes with 2 different story endings
  • Explore the Frontier on the move: Full Steam Deck support

Toxic Frontier will be released on Steam and can be wishlisted now.

Escape From Playtime, the Upcoming Co-Op Survival Horror Game Set in the Poppy Playtime Universe, Gets an October Release Date

0

The Smiling Critters infest the factory starting October 21st in Steam Early Access

Los Angeles, September 20, 2026 – Today, during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, Mob Entertainment revealed an October 21, 2026, release date for Escape From Playtime, a 4-player co-op survival horror extraction game set in the Poppy Playtime universe.

Launching first into Steam Early Access, the game sends players — alone or with friends — back into the infamous Playtime Co. factory from the perspective of the cute-yet-disturbing Smiling Critters. Tasked with scavenging materials for a mysterious building project that promises salvation, players must work together and follow instructions from an ominous voice lurking in the shadows, all while evading the factory’s most dangerous denizens.

Escape From Playtime is a co-op survival horror game set deep inside the abandoned Playtime Co. factory. Players take on the roles of the Smiling Critters, the dead-eyed toy line with gaping smiles first introduced in Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3, and explore classrooms, warehouses, testing labs, and the dark corridors connecting them all.

Played solo or with up to four players, each run sends teams into a dynamically changing section of the facility to find and transport resources for a mysterious Voice. The materials are needed to help build a promised home for toys who prove their loyalty and usefulness. Simple enough, except the factory is filled with rejected Playtime Co. creations stalking the halls. Players must search quickly, choose when to split up or stick together, and know when to retreat.

Along the way, players can solve puzzles, uncover clues, scavenge tools, use hiding spots and alternate routes, and turn the factory layout to their advantage. Proximity voice chat adds another risk: communication is essential, but an irresponsible whisper can bring the mission to a brutal end.

As you complete runs, Escape From Playtime reveals a deeper connection to the larger Poppy Playtime story. The Voice promises freedom and a home, but its motives remain unclear. Every resource gathered feeds into something bigger. You are helping build something, but what, and why?

Key Features:

  • Critter Co-Op: Play solo or team up with up to 3 friends in a fight for survival inside Playtime Co. More Critters means more ground covered and more chances for something to go horribly wrong, all enabled with proximity voice chat.
  • The Voice: A mysterious Voice sends players into the facility to collect scattered parts and resources. Gather what you need, bring it back safely, and try not to ask too loudly who or what you are really working for.
  • Scavenge to Survive: Use whatever the factory gives you to stay alive. Search for tools, uncover clues, find hiding spots, create distractions, and use alternate routes to outmaneuver the rejected Playtime Co. creations stalking the halls.
  • Mini Mode: Crawl, jump, and climb through every nook and cranny of the Playtime Co. factory as a Smiling Critter and experience some of the most iconic Poppy Playtime locations through a new (smaller) set of eyes.
  • Familiar and New: It’s Playtime Co. as you know it, with a twist. The mysterious Voice seems to be altering the factory’s layout, creating procedurally generated environments that change with each run.

EARLY ACCESS

Escape From Playtime is being built with Early Access in mind, giving players a strong core loop at launch while leaving room for the community to help shape future growth. The initial release is planned to include a four-character Smiling Critter roster with four more to unlock, one starter zone, and a core enemy lineup. Future updates are expected to expand the game with new zones, Critters, features, and refinements informed by player feedback.

A unique and fast-paced presentation

Red Dunes Games is showcasing nine exciting titles at Tokyo Game Show, at stand/booth Hall 7, Booth Number: N03, Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan, from 17– 21 September 2026, where the media and public will have the opportunity to discover a selection of games from talented development teams.

Among the featured titles will be Hellheart Breaker, a genre-blending classic in the making and the latest creation from BattleBrew Productions, the development team behind the highly acclaimed Cuisineer.

This is a refreshing blend of action, dating sim, dungeon crawling, and roguelite, mixing styles and genres in a compelling animated game! Set in an Asian-inspired Underworld filled with smoke and neon, you awaken in a forgotten room within a bathhouse, soon becoming a new resident of Aashraya, the last remaining city in the Underworld. With no memory of who you are and an ominous prophecy hanging over you, you embark on a journey to uncover your true identity.

The monster girls you choose to date will grant you powerful new abilities, while the ones you leave behind become the formidable bosses standing in your way. In this roguelite setting, you are trapped deep within the Underworld, battling through relentless challenges as you fight your way to freedom. When love and war have no rules, how far will you go to escape?

Aashraya, the world you are within, is a land steeped in history, mystery, and unforgettable characters. Meet diverse figures such as a Naga princess, Oni blacksmith, Kitsune courtesan, and Asuran enforcer, each with their own stories, struggles, and ambitions. Learn powerful abilities, master the elements through the teachings of different clans, and form bonds that may become friendships, rivalries, or something more.

Whether you stand beside the Clan Scions or challenge their beliefs, your choices will shape the fate of Aashraya. As the darkness of the underworld rises, fight to bring an end to this age, becoming either its savior or causing its downfall. With seven clans, multiple endings, extensive weaponry, elemental skill trees, customisation, fishing, and food markets, Hellheart Breaker offers a unique adventure where love, combat, and choice collide.

Features and Facts

  • 7 clans, each with its own agenda
  • 7 different worlds to explore
  • 35 weapons, including weapons such as the jian and katar
  • 7 elemental skill trees
  • Augments to modify your abilities
  • Procedurally generated/roguelite gameplay
  • Multiple endings – 9 planned endings
  • Customisable outfits
  • Home decoration
  • Fishing
  • Food-related activities at the Kappa Market
  • Romance and relationship systems
  • Two versions/”flavours” of the protagonist

I Love it!

One of many standout features is the romance system, where relationships have a direct impact on gameplay. Players can romance different Clan Scions to learn their abilities and elemental powers, or reject their beliefs and potentially fight them. A sequence would be to date a character, gain their powers, then use them to progress through the Underworld.

Game Reveal: Merge Materials to Make Mechanimals in Legacy Code, Physics Sim Coming to PC Next Year

0

TOKYO — Sept. 19, 2026 — Legacy Code, the quirky physics simulation game developed by Room 127 and published by Kodansha Game Creators’ Lab, fashions fantastical fighters on PC via Steam in 2027. Go hands-on with the bizarre new creature creator at Tokyo Game Show this weekend, where it was selected as a finalist at “Sense of Wonder Night 2026.”

Manufacture enigmatic machinations called “Mechanimals” by combining all kinds of objects, and set them loose upon the world to do battle…no, really, anything can be combined!Frankenstein together all kinds of parts like heads, arms, and legs with motors, doll heads, character merchandise, electric fans, televisions, 3D puzzles, dentures, chains, cacti…the list goes on!

Powered by the proprietary “Marionette Engine,” all Mechanimals come to life no matter their design or anatomy. Each powered-up part comes with its own quirks, and may cause Mechanicals to move in unpredictable ways, surprising even Legacy Code’s creators! Marvel at how they manage to amble across the ground and navigate terrain hazards.

Hodgepodge together a battle-ready Mechanimal, then face off against abnormal adversaries, collecting parts from fallen foes after every skirmish for future upgrades. Attach newer, more powerful parts, and head back into the fray in search of greater challenges.

Recognized for its originality, Legacy Code has been selected as one of eight finalists in this year’s Sense of Wonder Night at Tokyo Game Show, handpicked amongst more than 1,500 competing submissions. Finalists are chosen based on their ideas that evoke a sense of wonder and change, and Legacy Code earned its place through its unique concept of creating unpredictable creatures created from scraps.

“We tried our best to create Mechanimals that would break the physics engine, but somehow, every combination of parts led to a living creature,” said Yasuta, Programmer at Room127. “Creativity truly knows no bounds in Legacy Code, and we invite all Tokyo Game Show attendees to try their hand at creating bizarre creatures.”

Legacy Code is planned for release on PC via Steam in 2027 with language support in English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese. To stay up-to-date with the latest information, follow developer Room 127 on X/Twitter, and wishlist the game on Steam.

During the test, eligible PC players can choose between UHD, HD and SD resource tiers, while eligible mobile players can select either HD or SD. Each tier offers a different balance of download size and graphics quality, allowing players to select the option best suited to their device specifications and needs.

Overview

The popularity of The Walking Dead at one time was astronomical. The television show from AMC had fans eager to watch every week to see who might live or die and even had an aftershow every episode to keep fans engaged. That type of popularity usually translates well into video game form but outside of a certain Telltale Games series, that just wasn’t the case for The Walking Dead as nearly every attempt to bring the story to life ended up as dead as the walkers shuffling around.

Now, long after the main series has ended but with AMC continuing the franchise with multiple spin-offs, we have The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival, a side-scrolling brawler that takes and focuses on a single, and probably most popular, arc from the TV series. The question is, does this brawler take full advantage of its potential or does it once again fall short of fan hopes?

Story

The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival follows the AMC television show to the letter, picking up immediately during the events as Alexandria falls to Negan and his Saviors. Rick has sent Michonne ahead with Carl to the evacuation point in the sewers and is stuck battling against Negan who is determined to hunt him down. After managing to survive the encounter and escape from the Saviors, Rick reunites with Michonne only to find that Carl had been bitten before and is dying. With the residents of Alexandria on the run, Rick, Michonne, and Daryl must do what they can to guide their people somewhere safe with Daryl clearing the sewers to Hilltop while Rick and Michonne seek out help from the Scavengers, only to find they have suffered the same fate.

From then on it becomes a battle of attrition with Michonne and Daryl doing their best to protect Hilltop while Rick hunts down Negan for revenge, finding that there will only be one way that this will come to an end. With one of these leaders being put down, even if it goes against the letters and wishes left behind by Carl in his final moments.

Now for anyone that has watched the television show, The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival will carry no surprises, other than that one of the triple branched missions that see Rick, Daryl, and Michonne splitting up to weaken various parts of the Saviors’ defenses, feeling entirely like filler as it serves no real narrative purpose. Otherwise every other event will play out exactly the same as it did throughout the show, all the way through to the final battle location right as the credits start to roll. This means that not only is the game incredibly short, clocking in at under four hours and that is with finding nearly every collectable, it also feels like it barely scratches its potential.

While it is clear that Negan and his Saviors were obviously the most popular villains, as evidenced by the fact that Negan is still kicking around in Dead City with Maggie all these years later, it also feels like this is a game that should have embraced way more of The Walking Dead’s narrative than hyper-focusing solely on the Saviors. Rick’s initial wake-up, the farm and subsequent fallout, The Governor, or even smaller factions like Terminus or The Wolves . There’s barely any hints that Maggie even exists, no mention of Glenn’s fate prior to this, nor even mention that Carol exists despite the fact that she could easily have been a fighter as well.

The slightest hints come in the form of “lore items” that are often barely a paragraph of text and tend to have nothing to do with the plot or characters as a whole which makes this far more disappointing than one would hope, especially since it could have tapped into numerous earlier story arcs before leading up to Negan. Instead players are left with an extremely short and extremely narrow focused title that keeps only three playable characters despite the large cast to work with and a fourth unlockable character we won’t spoil here, but changes nothing narratively even when used in levels.

Gameplay

The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival is a brawler through and through with a small mix of “survival horror” mixed in. This aspect comes in the form that players will need to almost always rely on melee weapons while making limited use of the ammo that they come across for their primary firearm or weapons scavenged from the field. Even the medkits are limited with players only able to initially carry three at a time and taking time to use, healing slowly as the character kneels down to bandage their wounds and slowly refill their lost health. If the character is hit while healing, or shortly after even, they will lose all of their restored health and the medkit as well, making the timing of when to heal vital in surviving some encounters.

As a brawler it is interesting to note that the three primary playable characters mostly play the same way, with a combo of light attacks being able to be chained into a heavy finisher and some characters even having the ability to chain melee attacks into a ranged finisher. Each character can also make use of a kick to gain space or break an enemy’s attack stance or dodge roll out of danger, with each of these on small cooldowns. The real differences come from the equipment they bring into a fight and upgrades that they can have unlocked. Rick for example is a heavyweight fighter with an extremely powerful revolver that can pierce multiple enemies if fired at the critical shot point (smallest reticle), Daryl is the fastest attacker able to combo enemies quickly using his dual knives and can eliminate enemies silently with his crossbow that can also pierce multiple enemies if aimed properly. Finally we have Michonne who is primarily a melee character who focuses almost entirely on her samurai sword to dispatch foes but, unlike the other two, can pick up and carry both a light firearm and heavy firearm at the same time but she will never swap her katana out for a temporary melee weapon.

Among the three primary characters Michonne feels the strongest, especially as players upgrade her melee capabilities and ability to generate adrenaline automatically, making it easy to perform finishing moves for massive damage more often. Every character’s skill tree may share the same pool of resources, such as kill count expanding the amount of skills players can learn, the “knowledge” required to obtain a skill, but not the skills themselves. Every character’s skills must be learned separately from one another, encouraging players to select their favorite even if some stages require players to only control Daryl or Rick, with only a few missions giving players the option to select any of the three.

In a rather strange way to earn “knowledge” players will kill various enemies or loot objects in the world and gain knowledge points for doing so, though there really is no indication as to why, feeling like something of a shoehorned mechanic, Most levels also feature two or more “lore items” scattered throughout the level as well as a character progression item, since some skills on the upgrade tree require specific items such as Broadhead Arrow Tips for Daryl, Gun Parts for Rick, and Wrappings for Michonne.

The bosses throughout the game are something of a mixed bag as most bosses simply revolve around a basic mechanic of either dodging out of the way or throwing grenades back at them and little else. There is one boss that is far more complicated but can be defeated through brute force even if players can’t figure out the puzzle involved. That being said, the combat does feel a bit strange and floaty at times, especially when it looks like players should be hitting an enemy Savior or Walker only to find themselves swinging at empty air and eating a gunshot from the Savior or grab from a Walker. Similarly the random hitboxes of some foes feels incredibly strange at times and boss HP bars feel as if they have a lag to them, with bosses still showing nearly half-health suddenly dying.

One thing that is also currently a massive issue with the Xbox Series X version of the game is potentially a massive bug that has not been patched at the time of this writing. If the player has to quit the game for any reason and let the title enter the “Quick Resume” state, not only will the game not track any achievement progression, it will also not save any of the player’s actual progression from that point on. This means that even if players take a break a few missions in and then power through and beat the game, unlocking New Game+ and the fourth playable character, they can find themselves starting the game back up only to find the game treating it as it never happened, putting players back at the missions they were at before the last Quick Resume session, resetting progress which is incredibly annoying despite the short length of the game.

Audio & Visuals

For the most part The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival does a really solid job on replicating the appearances of the primary main characters that appear throughout the story in the retro pixel format. Daryl looks a little rough but both Michonne and Rick, including his bonus costume in the deluxe edition, look impressive. The enemy designs are also nicely varied, at least when it comes to the walkers that players will need to take down as almost all of the Saviors are designed after their role, so players will immediately know what their attacks will be from their appearance.

As for the Saviors themselves, there is no gore compared to zombie heads being blown up or sliced apart and while Negan of course looks perfect and a few other notable high ranking members of the Saviors are given accurate representation, the rest are incredibly generic. Outside of one character that fans should easily recognize though he is dispatched the same as any other foe but never is duplicated. It is nice to note that the backgrounds of most levels are at least fairly fitting as players fight through parts of Alexandria, Hilltop, and into Sanctuary, though a few stage designs are also rather generic in-between, feeling like filler.

The game features no real voice work of any kind. There are small voice clips from each of the playable characters that play when the player selects them to fight in a stage but other than that there is no talking, only groans and cries of pain during combat. The background music throughout the game is fitting given the nature of the title as well as the retro stylings.

Overall

The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival is a fairly solid adaptation of AMC’s version of events between Rick and Negan even if it retreads ground that has already been walked on a hundred times and doesn’t tap into any of the other potential villains or arcs that the long running franchise could have pulled from. This retro brawler is fun to play albeit without a co-op option and has some decent challenge to boot. But even then, with its shorter runtime this brawler is purely for The Walking Dead fans, or simply fans of the genre eager for something new.
