Barrage Manga Cancelled

While many manga are cancelled prematurely due to lack of popularity it was particularly surprising when brand new series Barrage was cancelled from serialisation in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.

So what was so surprising about Barrage getting the axe? Well it was the fact that many had believed the series would be safe due to the fact that Viz Media had picked it up from the get go for serialisation in their digital manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha, making it one of the fastest translated manga of all time. Two weeks after it’s original debut in Japan it was translated into English by Viz for Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha.

This is certainly disappointing news for fans of the manga, but with weeks of ranking at the bottom of Jump’s polls was writing on the wall for this series. With only one chapter left (chapter 15), Shueisha promises it will be the ‘stunning conclusion’ of Barrage. What do you think of Barrage being cancelled? Let us know in the comments section below.

Minecraft XBLA Adventure Update “weeks away”

If you were hoping that the next big update for the XBLA version of Minecraft would be coming soon with the “Adventure” update then you still have plenty of time to wait. Minecraft XBLA’s developer 4J Studios went to Twitter stating that update 1.8.2 is “still weeks away.”

To be a bit more specific, the company said “We’re still working on 1.8.2. A few things left to add, more work on the Creative Mode interface, then lots of test.” For those who don’t know, the Adventure update will add in NPCs, villages, strongholds and more. There will also be a Creative mode added soon which will allow players to build whatever they want without mining anything.

High School DxD season 2 announced; new characters teased

Remember two weeks ago when we were given information about an announcement concerning High School DxD today? Well that announcement has come and it is as we thought, a High School DxD is going to be given a second anime season.

The announcement was made with the release of the 13th High School DxD light novel and the Blu-ray Disc bundled with the release. The above image not only announces season 2, but also reveals a number of new characters that will be introduced in the second season, such as the blue-haired Xenovia and the extremely shy Gasper.

In true DxD fashion, the tagline at the bottom of the video is one that would match the main character Issei perfectly, for it says “Let’s go!! Boobs!!”

Joe Danger 2 The Movie Announced for XBLA

Hello Games, the UK developer that brought Joe Danger: Special Edition to the XBLA has announced that its sequel Joe Danger 2 The Movie will be releasing to XBLA September 14th this year.  Set to feature even more than the original game, Joe Danger 2 will have 100 scenes and more than 20 vehicles for Joe Danger to use.  A big release for the small team at Hello Games, the sequel to the hit game will feature up to 40 hours of gameplay and the ability to play against online ghosts of anyone who’s played the game.

Even better, for anyone that hasn’t downloaded a copy of Joe Danger: Special Edition, the game is now at half price or 600 MS points, in honor of the upcoming sequel.  So, those looking to try out the original can do so for cheap and get a taste of what will be coming for Joe Danger 2.

Of Orcs and Men Video – Behind the Music Production

Of Orcs and Men has released a new video, but don’t be expecting more gameplay footage or a more in-depth look into the game’s story.  This time around the video is focused on the music of the game and includes a who’s done what throughout the music’s progress from composition to implementation.

The trailer, whose audio solely features the game’s music, gives a very good impression of what the game is going to sound like when it finally releases, and also shows off some of the folks who have been working on it, from the recording engineer, to the musicians in the Boston Cello Quartet.  Players interested in checking out the video and hearing what the game has to offer in terms of sound can find it embedded below.

Of Orcs and Men is slated to release in October 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

The Sims 3 Supernatural Ghost Tour Fun

Last night, us here at Capsule Computers were invited to attend a ghost tour in celebration of the latest Sims 3 expansion pack: The Sims 3 Supernatural — and to play around with the game some more. The event was held at a somewhat famous haunted bar here in Australia called The Hero of Waterloo, where a woman was apparently killed after being pushed down a flight of stairs. Spooky.

The event started with people arriving at around the time of the events start. Us gaming media and journalists started filling the room one after the other over a short period of time. It was a more intimate deal than an overly crowded one, I estimate there was about 10 people in presence all up, including the staff with EA.

I wont talk too much about how The Sims 3 Supernatural plays, as this version was identical to the version we previewed a month or two ago, but I will say that it was interesting participating in this scenario that I had set up for myself. Basically, with this one goal that I had set, I had to take my fairy girl that nobody seemed to like and get her to seduce some rich guy in order to become her sugar daddy. Yes, she was poor – I think the repo man took some of her stuff – but this was definitely a challenge that I could achieve… right?

Sims-Supernatural-Sydney-09-2012-13

Nope. Wrong. In all of the over an hour of gameplay that I had sunk into the game, I was nowhere near close to picking up a dude. The closest that I had gotten was a few Sims hating on me and this one guy in a labcoat who was at a much more minor level of red. It’s like they knew. Damn them.

After a while of playing the game and having some media dressing up in lame costumes, it was time for the ghost tour of spookiness. We all headed down stairs and kind of lost the tour initially, as we do (who reads the Dungeon Map?), but we eventually found the guides, who were just around the corner. From there we filled a room that was reminiscent of a jail cell and were told a spooky tale about how this pub owners wife was murdered by her husband via a flight of stairs.

After the story we had a bit of a poke around and took some photos. No we did not meet any ghosts, nor were any of us spooked or scared. I did break a laptop though, so that’s something.

Be sure to check out the photo’s of the event below or on our Facebook page.

The Avengers Initiative Preview

Avengers Assemble! The Avengers Initiative is the latest and upcoming game from Marvel which will be appearing on mobile gaming platforms Android and iOS. The game is an action game based around swipe based movement to attack and defeat foes.

Us here at Capsule Computers were invited down to the Sydney Office for Disney Mobile, who are looking after the title on behalf of Marvel and Wideload, who are the game’s developers. At this event, we were given some hands-on time with the game, as well as the opportunity to sit down and have a chat with the developers. It was a roundtable set up with us and a few other gaming publications present at the table, while we were video conferencing to the Marvel Studios over in the US.

What was interesting about this title is that the game was shown to be available for both the Apple iOS and the Android mobile phone market. This means that regardless of the platform that you own, you will likely be getting a similar experience from the game. The developers did mention a few enhancements for devices with nVidia Tegra chips, but they’re not really anything that will get your panties in know should you not have one.

The games series starts with the Hulk character from the Avengers universe. According to the developers, The Avengers Initiative is going to run across several games, with each starring a different Avenger in each. The gameplay is going to be similar across each game, from what I can tell anyway.

In this particular game, we took Hulk out for a session of beating up enemies. This was achieved through making various swipes across the screen in conjunction with a particular move. For instance if I wanted to dodge, I would swipe the screen differently to how I would if I wanted to attack. What’s interesting about the combat system though, was that you are able to actually combine attacks to create some rather devastating combos. These were rather effective against enemies, making the strongest of enemies go down rather quickly.

What was kind of worrisome about the game was that really wasn’t much freedom of choice – or at least in the sections that we could play. It was pretty much just the player touching a point on the screen for The Hulk to move to and then that would usually initiate some kind of battle. While the battles are fun, I’m hoping that there is a larger emphasis on exploration in the full release. Otherwise the only reason that the minimum amounts of walking could have been implemented for was to add a few minutes to the games playtime.

Everytime you win a battle, you get some EXP and the like, much like in an RPG game. These can be used to level up and purchase upgrades for your character. What’s actually really interesting here is that a lot of the customisation takes its inspiration from the Marvel Comic universe. For instance, you’ll be able to take various costumes from the Marvel universe and mix them up on your character to make the kind of character that matches your playstyle. Even better is that you can take various pieces from different costumes to mix and match them. So you could end up with a Hulk character wearing clothes from a bunch of different stories in his own universe.

Something that I though was an interesting concept was that this game – The Avengers Initiative – can be linked to the Marvel XP service. What this will allow you to do is to link your Avengers Alliance Facebook profile with your Avengers initiative game and collect more resources to make yourself even more powerful. So those players who have been playing Avengers Alliance already, should start thinking ahead now as to whether or not they want to spend all of their resources or to save some for this upcoming release.

As you may already be aware, the Marvel Avengers are made up of more than one character. What’s really good about this The Avengers Initiative game is that we will probably be able to play as our favourite Avengers at some point. At the moment, there are four games planned – with The Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America and one more that I don’t have covered on my notes for some reason – and the developers are really hoping to have all four of them out at the same time. So if you like, instead of buying all of the games at a massive price, you could just buy the characters you want to play as within the Initiative universe and then move onto the others should you want to.

From our chat with the developers, we have learned a few things behind and inside the games. For instance, we know that the Marvel Universe is full of interesting characters that often interact with one and another – so this obviously means that there will be cameo appearances from other characters within the Marvel Universe itself. Some of these may be other Avengers, some of them may not be.

What’s also interesting is that this game isn’t taking place in the existing gaming universe, Marvel movie universe or the comic-book universe. Instead it will be set in the Marvel XP Universe, which means that there will be a larger focus on narrative and additional content without worrying about conflicts with the canon of the other forms of storytelling.

Overall it looks like the developers over at wideload and the Marvel gaming division are really aiming for a true to character experience in their own version of the Marvel universe. The XP universe is already being pounded by the Marvel Avengers Alliance and players will likely notice similarities in story elements between that title and The Avengers initiative. The title was incredibly fun to play, and outside of one primary concern, looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. Fans of the Marvel universe and of having fun will probably want to pick this up when it releases incredibly soon.

Bombshells and Campers! on the way from Glu

Bombshells: Hell’s Belles and Campers! are two new titles from mobile game extraordinaires Glu, with both games hitting the virtual space later this week.

Bombshells draws inspiration from Glu’s Gun Bros franchise, and is a fast paced, aerial fighter starring a trio of female pilots – the Bombshells. There’s real time co-op and competitive multiplayer on offer as well as solo play, and every kill comes with a new item, so the action is constantly changing.

Campers! is more of a sedate affair, offering players the opportunity to spend some time in the great outdoors via their handheld device. There are cabins to be built, badges to be won and flowers to pick, with plenty of mini games and a cute cartoon style putting this firmly in the more kid orientated camp.

Both games will see a release on Android and iOS platforms this week, joining some of Glu’s other titles such as Eternity Warriors and the epically named Ham on the Run.
