To Love-Ru Darkness licensed by Sentai Filmworks

It was a bit expected considering the fact that Sentai Filmworks already owns the license to the first two seasons of To Love-Ru’s anime series, but today the company revealed that they will also be licensing the third season of the anime, To Love-Ru Darkness.

It is worth noting that so far Sentai Filmworks has only released the past To Love-Ru series with English subtitles only, though considering the high expectations many fans have for this season, it would be a shame if they continued that trend.

For those who don’t know, To Love-Ru Darkness continues the story of the past seasons, except while Yūki Rito tries to figure out whom he truly loves, Lala’s sister Momo has come up with a “harem plan” which will seemingly make every woman around him happy. However one obstacle is in her way, the assassin called Golden Darkness or Yami. With a mysterious red-head named Mea appearing to cause trouble, can Momo manage to make Rito agree to her plan?

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Single-Player Hands-On Preview

At a preview event at EA Asia’s publishing offices in Sydney, Australia, we at Capsule Computers got the opportunity to preview the single-player code of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. After a brief introduction by our special guest, the Creative Director of Multiplayer Kristoffer Bergqvist, we were treated to the then unreleased Karachi Car Chase trailer before getting stuck into two campaign missions. We played on PCs of course, although we had the option of using Xbox 360 controllers.

The two missions that were made available to us, in their entirety, included an updated version of the Somalia level shown at E3 earlier this June called “Shore Leave”, and an action packed car chase through Karachi, Pakistan called “Hot Pursuit” as Task Force Mako tracks down the PETN trail. Firstly we would be playing as “Stump”, a new character to the series, joining in the fight with Task Forces Mako and Grizzly against Al-Shabaab pirates in Somalia. Upon arriving via RHIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat), we fought our way through onto the shore, starting off with a standard handgun and the HK416 rifle. The ability to change fire-modes between single-shot, burst and automatic was present in the HK416, while the ability to “ask for ammo” from a fellow team mate has returned the previous MoH title. Readily apparent was the “micro-destruction” as cover gets blown to bits, forcing players to constantly readjust and reposition.

Immediately upon entering the first building, we come across our first “dynamic door-breach” opportunity on the second storey. In attempting the breach, a radial wheel pops up to the left of the door with three options highlighted. From top to bottom, they were “Kick”, “Tomahawk” and “Crowbar”. There were slots for more options, but they were greyed out. The kick was automatically unlocked, however the tomahawk and crowbar choices were to be unlocked by achieving 4 head shots for each. Choosing to kick open the door shows a teammate doing the honors as Stump throws a smoke grenade into the room, although this sequence seems to vary instance to instance. Stump automatically goes through the door, and a hud element showing how many enemies are present shows at the bottom of the screen, leading into a slow-mo event as you attempt to shoot every enemy in the room. The slow-mo is simply an advantage for the player, giving us the easiest opportunity to score some head shots.

After being required to paint a target tower and moving through it’s rubble, something to note (that was particularly noticeable at this juncture and is sometimes related to scripted sequences) is the slow pace at which you walk. The realism of carrying so much gear was obviously a goal for the dev team, however it felt excessively slow, almost to a crawl at some points. Shortly after, we get to a section requiring the deployment of a remote combat drone. This bot controls like a clunky piece of machinery, struggling to traverse some parts of the rubble as it sneaks up on unsuspecting Somali pirates. There is the ability to turn on a flashlight though, and also an option to toggle between a mini-machine gun and a mini-grenade launcher. Of course it’s field of view is restricted by it’s height, but the drone is effectively powerful. There was a moment where we were confused as to where we were supposed to go with the drone as we would be bombarded with bullets from virtually every direction if we ventured too far. We then realised that the drone was scripted to be destroyed as a means to return to regular combat and progress with our soldiers.

Moving forward, we would encounter many enemies, getting the opportunity to man a mounted, shielded machine gun on the back of an enemy utility vehicle, before reaching a sniper section. After positioning ourselves – via cutscene –  against a table for our vantage point, we proceeded to take out anti-air fighters. Again, harking back to the goal of being “the most realistic shooter” out, we come across the issue of trajectory. Because of the distance at which our enemies stood, we would have to aim our shots slightly above our target in the scope’s reticule. As the distance between us and our enemies increased, so too did this aiming offset. A nice touch. After clearing the zone, attack choppers fly in to destroy the enemy dwellings and the area at large. This is (understandably!) where the mission ends.

Coming back from a fade-out, we witness a cutscene reintroducing Preacher to us, who was featured as an important, but none-the-less non-playable character in the 2010 Medal of Honor reboot. Once it ends (no spoilers for plot points here!) we initiate a car chase through “the bad parts” of Karachi. The chase proceeds through the Empress Market area, into a slight traffic jam – which we forcibly rammed through – and up to the end point where we could finally catch up to our assailant. This is where the real showcase of Frostbite 2 kicks in as materials, particles…and chickens, go flying. Yes, you will be figuratively wiping chicken off your windshield. Of course, you are not able to catch the pursued until the game tells you to, at which point you can smash into him, leading into a short concluding cutscene. This may have been a heavily controlled and scripted conclusion, however the driving segments will surely be a nice break from the constant shooting in the flow of the campaign come full release. Interesting to note is the fact that the Need for Speed team had worked closely with Danger Close for this level, and the fluidity of the driving really shines through because of it.

Some final observations worth noting are the differences in the difficulty settings and the graphics quality that Frostbite 2 provides. We played through these missions on both normal and hard difficulty settings, and the difference is staggering. What was irritating was the lack of effort that the squad A.I. makes when playing on hard or higher. They almost do absolutely nothing. There are more appropriate ways to balance difficulty levels than rendering your teammates utterly useless. As for the graphics, we had most settings put on normal by default and didn’t want to mess with them just in case. The game looked good, although the textures were not very detailed. Obviously nobody likes to play a PC game on normal settings, and so I am sure the majority will not encounter this issue on their beastly gaming rigs. Overall though, Warfighter’s single-player campaign is looking good and will hopefully bring some variety in it’s mission structure if the included driving section is anything to go by. Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be released in Australia on October 25th.

You will find the just released Karachi Car Chase Trailer below. Enjoy!

Nintendo EB Games Expo Preview

nintendo-ebgames-expo-preview-night-001

So this year at the EB Games Expo in Sydney, gamers and attendees can expect a major presence from Nintendo. Speaking of Nintendo, they will primarily be showcasing their upcoming (and amazing) Wii U console and some of it’s launch line-up. Luckily for us here at Capsule Computers, we were given a preview to Nintendo’s booth before the actual event has taken place.

Nintendo have really gone out and created an amazing experience for gamers at this years booth. This is not only in terms of games and the Wii U itself, but also because of the incredibly friendly staff they had on roster for the event.

The booth itself portrays that Nintendo image that has come into being circa 2006 and everything has that clean Nintendo look and feel to it. This also includes the staff, who all seem to enhance this Nintendo aesthetic.

Now onto the games. At the preview we were sent to, we had the opportunity to go hands on with a number of upcoming Wii U titles. These included: Zombie U, Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. Wii U, Rayman Legends, Batman: Arkham City – Armoured Edition, Scribblenauts and Wii U Just Dance 4. What was really good about these was that the staff were pretty well informed of the games mechanics and the sections that we were being shown. This means that gamers probably wont get too stuck in any portions of the games. Heck, we even had one of the Nintendo guys join us in a game of Rayman.

The Wii U controller tablet device was really the star of the event as it was the primary playing device for a number of the games present, and for those that it was not, it served as a major function for a multiplayer aspect to the game. For instance, in both Mario Bros. and Rayman, the controller was used to assist players by modifying the playing field in some major way. This means that in New Super Marios Bros. U, players we able to stun or kill certain enemies, as well as create blocks for players to jump off from and on to.

The best thing about the Wii U tablet though, is that isn’t particularly weighty, nor is it particularly clunky. I mean, when you initially see it in person you’re like “Wow, this is bigger than I thought it’d be”, but then you use it and it’s amazingly comfortable. What’s even better is there is a kind of groove on the back of it that you can use as a grip when playing certain games, like the Ninja star throwing game on Nintendo Land. The controller is incredibly comfortable, and I think that players will definitely find this out for themselves on the show floor.

Overall I’d say that attendees visiting the Nintendo booth at the EB Games Expo event this weekend will have an amazingly fun time. The staff are friendly, the games are fun and most importantly, the Wii U is there. The very awesome Wii U.

Be sure to check out our gallery below of what Nintendo has to offer us this year at EB Games Expo.

Of Orcs and Men: Buddy Trailer

When two unlikely forces team up, you normally hear them bash each other quite regularly in good fun. Take for instance, Marvel’s Avengers that recently came out on Blue-ray and DVD. Thor, Captain American, Iron Man, and even the Hulk take shots at one another but eventually they pull out all the stops to become one hell of a team. That is basically the trials and tribulations that the characters Styx (goblin) and Arkaïl (orc) go through in their journey to rebellion.

In the following “Buddy Trailer”, listen close as Styx and Arkaïl build their bond with each other as they use their unique skills to take down foes but more importantly protect each other. In a week’s time Of Orcs and Men will be released on October 11th for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Additionally, there will be a digital download available for those that want to play as soon as the game launches. Find out more about purchasable options (here).

Resident Evil 6 London Butcher selling Human parts and limbs

Those with a tendency to lose their last meal at the sight of blood should probably not look any further regarding Capcoms latest publicity campaign for Resident Evil 6. Opening up a pop up butcher that sells human body parts called Wesker and Sons in London to appease those with a taste for human flesh (only joking). The various human parts including torsos, limbs and well… unmentionables were all designed by famous food artist Sharon Baker and for sale to the public pre the games release. The results were ultra-realistic as you can see and not something you should probably leave lying around on the back seat of the car when you go out. Either way a pretty cool idea despite the mixed reviews the game seem to get receiving from the reviewers.

Del Piero to take A-League crown

According to a simulation carried out on the upcoming Football Manager 2013, Alessandro Del Piero will have an amazing debut season playing Down Under for Sydney FC in the A-League. The former World Cup and Golden Boot winner who has chosen Sydney as his home for the 2012/2013 A-League season was given the honour of player of the season by the simulation.

Football Manager 2013 went on to reveal a few more secrets about the legends upcoming season, indicating a flurry of goals and teammate assists. Not surprisingly, his introduction onto the competition will be met with increased bums on seats and merchandise sales as fans flock to see their hero in action. Del Piero is not the only huge international signing into the League with the Jets managing to get their hands on Emile Heskie, whose season also looks set to create some sparks.

“This is going to be a big season for the A-League – and not just because of the arrival of a couple of big-name European players,” says Miles Jacobson, Studio Director of Sports Interactive. “It will also be interesting to see the impact made by the arrival of Western Sydney and the introduction of the new play-off system… both of which feature in Football Manager 2013. With all of this going on, we thought it would be fun to have a look ahead and see how the A-League season might pan out.”

Only time will tell the accuracy of the simulation but either way its all setup to be a cracker season.

Football Manager 2013 is available come November 2nd for both PC and Mac
