Diablo 3 producer Rob Pardo: Direct the blame at me

diablo-3-demon

Diablo 3 director Jay Wilson has recently stepped down from his position to pursue a new project with Blizzard. Normally a positive reception would be in store for the resigning director; however, the Battle.net forums are relentless with nothing short of severe comments directed towards Jay Wilson. Criticism is quite frequent in the gaming world, but these “attacks” garnered the attention of Diablo 3’s producer Rob Pardo. Feeling that the justice that forum posters believe they are delivering is undeserved, Pardo said the following in reply:

I am very proud of the Diablo franchise and what the team was able to accomplish with Diablo 3. As a gamer I have enjoyed the game and played for many, many nights with friends and family. I’m not, however, going to use that as an excuse. The Diablo community deserves an even better game from Blizzard and we are committed to improving it. We have a talented team in place and have no intention of stopping work on Diablo 3 until it is the best game in the franchise.

I’m the only person in this thread who has actually worked with Jay. I hired Jay to head up the Diablo project and had the pleasure of getting to work with him, both in building the team and designing the game. He has great design instincts and has added so much to the franchise with his feel for visceral combat, boss battles, and an unparalleled knack for making it fun to smash bad guys. I’ve worked with many, many designers at Blizzard and Jay is one of the best. He has a great career at Blizzard ahead of him and I guarantee that you will enjoy Jay’s game designs in future Blizzard games.

I too have noticed the harsh responses in general forums speaking of the game itself. Many comments surfaced due to the lack of PvP or poorly written story, yet the fact remains that fans are still present for the franchise. Perhaps blaming a single entity for a supposed failure may give these “haters” some closure. Rob Pardo would then like to direct the blame to himself rather than Jay Wilson as he gave the ultimate direction of the title’s game design. Rob concluded with the following:

If you still feel the need to dish out blame, then I would prefer you direct it at me. I was the executive producer on the project; I hired Jay and I gave him advice and direction throughout the development process. I was ultimately responsible for the game we released and take full responsibility for the quality of the result.

Let us at Capsule Computers know how you feel about Diablo 3 and the creators behind the game by posting in the comments section below. Do you despise Diablo 3 enough to blame Jay Wilson?

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate European Release Date Announced

It came out last month that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate will be releasing exclusively to the Nintendo 3DS come March 5th for North America, but at the time the European release hadn’t been set.  Times have changed though as the European release date has been confirmed as March 8th.

The reason it took sometime to arrive at this date may come from the new distribution deal struck between Nintendo and Konami.  It seems that for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, Nintendo will be in charge of sales, marketing, and distribution for the European territories and Australia, while Konami will remain only as publisher.  Both Konami and Nintendo seem satisfied with the deal, as Nintendo has enjoyed the long history of Castlevania games and Konami hopes to provide the best handheld Castlevania experience via the uniqueness of the 3DS.

European players looking to experience the new handheld Castlevania can get their hands on it March 8th, 2013.

Feedback from ShootMania Storm Beta Pushes Back Release Date

0

It seems like the feedback for the ShootMania Storm beta had a lot to say about the upcoming game, so much so the developers have decided to seek some improvements before the game’s release. Listening so much in fact that the release date of the game will be pushed back to ensure that they are able to make the necessary changes.

So instead of a January release, those looking forward to the full release now have to wait until April 10th. However, those wanting to get in on the game early will be able to join a new open beta that will be launching February 12th, so that the devs can get even more feedback.

Coming from developer Nadeo and publisher Ubisoft, ShootMania Storm is an online-multiplayer FPS that is already active as an e-sport. Previously part of the IPL 5 tournament in Las Vegas and MLG in Dallas, ShootMania Storm will appear at both Pax East and IPL6 in Las Vegas in March, just before its new release date of April 10th.

Earthbound coming to Wii U?

earthbound-wii-u-teaserThe lights are on bright tonight for Nintendo’s Wii U Direct conference where they promise to announce new Wii U titles along with provide details on previously announced titles. As is usually the case with such conferences, hype is already building across the gaming community with speculation reaching boiling point. Following the hype and clues left behind by developers can be somewhat eye-opening.

One developer, Monolith Soft have been burning a quiet revolution by giving away hint after hint at a potential Wii U title and all signs point to Earthbound.

If you have been following Monolith Soft since their announcement of developing a new RPG for the Wii U, you will probably have noticed a number of hints that directly hint at a brand new Earthbound title for the Wii U. The first and most obvious allusion to a possible Earthbound is the artwork for the Monolith Wii U title which you can see to the right.

On top of that Soraya Saga, game designer at Monolith Soft and wife of president of the company took to twitter with hints towards Earthbound Wii U being announced at tonight’s conference. Saga posted an interesting tweet which speaks of looking towards a shooting star and constellations. She also retweeted the news that the Nintendo Direct conference would take place tonight.

Perhaps the most interesting news is that of Shigesato Itoi the original producer and director of the Earthbound (Mother) franchise. He tweeted only a few days ago that fans should not forget about the ‘Resurrection of MOTHER’. This follows previous tweets where he confirmed that there will be another Earthbound title but he could not detail it any further.

What do you think? Will a new Earthbound game be announced for the Wii U at tonight’s Nintendo Direct conference? Let us know in the comments section below.

To promote their new title, The Last of Us, Naughty Dog is pulling out all the stops with not one, but two Special Editions of the game. Set to be released on May 17 the Ellie Edition and the Joel Edition, only available at GAME and Tesco & Independents respectively, will be packaged in a unique canvas cover and come with an insane amount of extras. The packages include the expected bonuses, a mini art book filled with the artwork that shaped the games and a limited edition comic book made by Dark Horse Comics that plunges into the back story of the character Ellie that has a special cover only available in the Special Edition.

Each edition also contains an individual poster and skin for the Dualshock 3 with the character of each copy featured. However, gamers may be most excited about the bonus DLC included with each copy. The Survival pack includes multiplayer expansions that includes bonus XP, customizable items, in-game currency, and bonus Joel and Ellie skins once you beat the main game. There’s more than gameplay enhancements in the extras though. The Sights and Sounds DLC gives players the games official soundtrack (by award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla) to cover the sounds, and a PS3 dynamic theme for the sight end of the package but this is available for anyone pre-ordering the game. Last but not least, a voucher for downloadable skins for LittleBigPlanet for an Ellie or Joel Sackboy.
