DECAPITATE ENEMIES IN LOFI, LIGHTNING FAST, TOP-DOWN INSTANT DEATH ACTION GAME; ‘SICK SAMURAI’ DEMO LAUNCHING ON STEAM

Rack-Up Continuous Kills With Strategic Dash-And-Slash Movement

Montreal, Canada, 8 May 2025 | Solideo is excited to announce the upcoming release of Sick Samurai, a retro anime-style top-down action game. Slice through enemies room by room in this blindingly fast and bloody action game with instant-death combat. The demo will be available on Steam on May 29th.

Master the Girameki Technique

Inspired by the classic top-down instant death game genre, Solideo masterfully blends aesthetic retro anime-inspired art designs with a sick original soundtrack behind high-violence action mechanics. Set on a surreal island that fuses Edo-period Japan with gritty 20th-century urban America, begin your journey as an aspiring young fighter. Retrieve a mask and sword from Genyu, an infamous ex-samurai who oversees your combat training. Throw yourself through fast-paced enemy-filled territory as you master the Girameki Technique to become the greatest fighter on Furikyu Island.

Precision, Speed, And Style

Sick Samurai features hand-crafted levels, each offering multiple paths and strategies, as well as various upgrades and item choices that players will make as they progress. Players can restart levels instantly upon death, and repetition is necessary for mastering the game’s combat, which largely revolves around a blazing-fast dash-and-slash mechanic. Use your sword combined with a secondary weapon: Kunai, Stun bombs, or smoke bombs to clear each room. Precision with weapon use is vital. If you miss your dash attack,  a drum will beat; this is your recovery time needed before that skill move can be used again. Dodge, or swiftly wield your secondary weapon to defend yourself until the beat.

As you clear the level, a point counter is present in the top right corner. Increase your points with the Combo Counter by performing consecutive kills in a short period of time; take too long between kills or miss an attack, and you’ll lose your combo. Style points are earned from the variety in which you land your kills. Multikill points can be combined with style points, which can be earned by killing multiple enemies with a single attack. Race against the clock to complete the Genyu cigarette challenge; finish the level by the time Genyu finishes smoking to receive an additional point for your overall score. The highest score you can achieve in a level is a 10, you’ll need that time bonus for a perfect score.  Precision, speed, reflexes, and planning will all be put to the test.

Eccentric Characters With Unique Styles

Sick Samurai also features fully voice-acted dialogue with branching choices that will shape the player’s relationships with the game’s diverse and eccentric cast of characters, including Jones, an “ex” gangster turned proprietor of a jazz bar, and Spike, Jones’ lazy pet Rottweiler. The game’s aesthetics transition and change as you progress through each Act. From the traditional Edo period, then to an urban American jazz and rap vibe, ending on a more elevated, monk-like, and religion-centered look. Each stylized Act has a main boss who also has their own distinct design and fighting style.

Game Features:

  • Dash Through Decapitations  –  To beat the Cigarette timer, clear the level in an insanely fast fashion before the timer runs out, earns you 1 point needed to achieve a perfect score.
  • Chase The Deadliest Score – Increase your overall score by stacking Style and Multikill points, kill enemies consecutively to keep the Combo Counter running.
  • Utilize Weapons Intentionally –  Smoke bomb, Stun bomb, Sword, Kunai, and various kinds of specially mixed sakes that offer passive upgrades, all must be used in a coordinated effort to complete levels.
  • Eccentric Cast Of Characters – A Unique and diverse cast of characters is introduced, including boss Samurai with varying strategies and skills.
  • Devastate Enemy Formations – Multiple paths and strategies, upgrades, and item choices that players unlock as they progress.
  • Chill and Kill To Original Lofi Soundtrack – Infused with elements of hip hop, jazz, funk, soul, and more.

Sick Samurai’s demo will be available on Steam on May 29th. Wishlist to stay up to date with Sick Samurai’s demo release! Learn more about the game through the game’s website.

Milan, Italy, May 8th 2025: Independent studio We Are Muesli has announced In Their Shoes, a new slice-of-life mumblecore narrative game available to wishlist now on Steam. Launching on PC and mobile in 2026, the game is set in present-day Milan and explores the everyday lives of seven individuals through 49 short, interactive stories called “Moments.” The project has already secured a nomination for A MAZE. 2025 independent and arthouse games awards in Berlin, setting itself up as one to keep an eye on in the genre.

Watch the trailer below and prepare for a 2026 launch on PC and Mobile!

From intimate conversations to silent reflections, each Moment captures a fleeting yet meaningful situation, exploring each character’s lived experience, sorting through their tangled thoughts and dictating their reactions. Players are encouraged to make small decisions, mostly at their own pace, with some real-time interactions when time sensitive activities occur, that reveal character, context, and connection. What emerges is not one story, but many, told through shifting perspectives and grounded in the texture of ordinary life.

In Their Shoes unfolds like a fragmented diary. Players can piece the timeline together, discover 26 hidden biographical details for each character, and let the city itself become part of the narrative, all set to a rich, combinatory lo-fi soundtrack and detailed, Intimistic visuals.

Key Features:

  • 49 playable Moments, each a self-contained story that together combine to create an extraordinary puzzle
  • 7 characters, each with a distinct voice and rhythm, discover their personalities, identities, and their place in Milan
  • Real-time dialogue combined with normal choices to direct the story, and timed choices in high pressure Moments

In Their Shoes is not about grand narratives or heroic arcs. It’s about the way people live, think, relate, and get through the day, inspired by a city very close to our hearts, Milan,” share Claudia Molinari and Matteo Pozzi, Game Directors at We Are Muesli. “We wanted to make something honest and grounded, where even the smallest gesture has weight, and where you are made to pause and reflect about your actions and choices, about the feelings of each individual, how they perceive themselves, how they’re treated by others, and how they should ultimately react to the little big problems that affect them, as they navigate the relationships and the city around them.”

In Their Shoes is coming to PC and Mobile in 2026! Why not wishlist the game on Steam today, join the Discord and follow the studio on Instagram?
