Overview

Fire Emblem is without a doubt Nintendo’s most respected property, and if the Switch was any indication, the franchise shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is the latest release, launching for the Switch 2 while offering a fresh story and set of characters. Does this title live up to all of the varied releases of the past decade, or is it one to skip this time around? Let’s find out.

Story

Fortune’s Weave is not a direct sequel to Three Houses, but it does share the same universe and a few characters from the lauded title. The major difference here is the way the plot pivots into something truly unique for the franchise. Players start by controlling an avatar by the name of Eshmel, a deity revived to save the world. In order to perform this task, Eshmel has to travel back in time to re-route history for four fallen Flame Lords, attempting to save each from their fate and put them on a path to an alliance. The player now gets to choose one at a time, revisit fate through each story as they attempt to weave together a new destiny for the world.

Yeah, its pretty jarring to see this type of plot unfold so quickly into the experience, but this is a very special title for how it handles that task. Each narrative is fully fleshed out and your job is to keep this hero alive as they make their way to the Heroic Games, where they have an opportunity of gaining a wish to finally achieve their ultimate goal. The main objective is to successfully pull as many as these plotlines together successfully through choice and skill in order to defeat the demon god Balor once and for all. Yeah, its a lot, but the finesse Fortune’s Weave handles this in is like nothing Fire Emblem has done before. The plots are engrossing, and being able to jump back and forth between them allows players to go at their pace, offering a new take on a more meaningful “choose your own adventure” type tale.

Gameplay

Despite its many central characters, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave mostly takes place within Dagison throughout all the experiences. This world is a hub for the entire plot, and is where our heroes approach the Heroic Games. During the game, you and your current squad meet at inns, where you can shop, court new allies, and strategise with new items and statistics in true Fire Emblem fare. There are side quests to go on, but things still follow that same rich strategy-RPG experience that really follows the core of what we know. To flip things, players can also explore the world a bit, interacting with the world around them as they break out of the main area and head into dungeons to farm experience and tools to assist them on their questlines.

The entire game is split into three arcs. The first has more of a focus on getting to know each Flame Lord and assisting with their specific stories and quests. There are plenty of side characters to get to know and have grow with you, and that in itself is a fun time. The next is the second arc, which in my opinion focuses more on preparation, with a focus on a new protagonist as your squad acts as support. Finally, there is the last arc, which takes the adventure home with a massive alignment of all of the heroes as they prepare for that giant ending battle. If you ever played Dragon Quest XI, there are definitely some similarities here with how this is structured in terms of the acts within. It’s all well thought out and paced, providing the player with so many ever-changing elements that they are sure to never feel a slog, despite the usual RPG grind of it all.

The core battles are absolutely Fire Emblem. You will battle on a high number of grids in this title, and I do mean a ton. Players can utilise the environment for advantages, align with allies for boosts and buffs, and take out enemies while managing their current party over the field. Objectives sometimes play a specific role in each battle, and once that is clear or enemies are defeated, the battle is decided. Yeah, it is all familiar, and still as high stakes as ever. To give players a bit of a reprieve, they can perform a “blessing” that allows them to rewind a turn in order to provide small buffs that may result in a different outcome. For a game like this, the need for this mechanic will mostly come as the game slowly ramps up its difficulty.

Clashes act as a completely different style of battle. Instead of a grid, these action sequences feel more like turn-based fare and offer a fresh perspective while still maintaining the grind to boost character levels and stats. Every character shares a life bar in these segments and head in with a full team. Sure, it isn’t exactly groundbreaking mechanics on its own, but it is a nice change of pace compared to the usual Fire Emblem grid battles you will be doing plenty of. Add in the general new battle mechanics such as Blaze Arts (which have the player sacrifice HP for power) and the varied difficulties of it all, and you have the most complex and connected Fire Emblem to date. It truly feels massive because it is, and Weave never buckles under its own massive weight.

Audio

There is so much to say here. First, the voice acting is fantastic. Sure, not all of the cast are going to be loved by all, but that does not mean their performances feel any less important. This is a massive plot, and one that is carried by these roles, where each character remains memorable and endearing. The soundtrack is also a stunner. Track after track of beautiful hymns or intense battle music coat this title and do it with style. This sounds like a unique take for something we all should expect with Fire Emblem, as most titles all have great music, but it feels more varied and expansive this time around. The standard effects, menu dings, and everything else tie it all together for an amazing audible effort from this team, who put a lot of love into building a superb presentation for Fortune’s Weave.

Visuals

This really comes down to preference. The art style here is a more colourful and crisp Three Houses. The detail on every character model is perfectly done, capturing a Mediterranean aesthetic. The game animations perform perfectly on the Switch 2, able to run at the full 60 frames per second without any issue, allowing animations to run silky smooth for gameplay and cutscenes alike. It’s a beautiful game that is easy to appreciate, and one that most fans will have no trouble enjoying for years to come.

Overall

I feel like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave almost came out of nowhere. Sure, it was announced long ago, but we didn’t expect it to be anything more than a normal Fire Emblem experience. Instead, this title will easily go down as not just one of the best from the franchise, but also the most daring strategy-RPG to hit the market as a whole. The stories are just as beautifully done as the art within, and there is so much to do and see that players should have no trouble putting in over a hundred hours into this massive beast of a title. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is not just one of the best RPGs on the system; it is easily one of Nintendo’s finest productions to date.

Alpha Nomos Drops the Beat on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S October 12th

RibCage Games sets the beat. Cello’s war against the corrupted puppets hits PC and consoles October 12

September 24, 2026 – Independent studio RibCage Games today set a release date for Alpha Nomos, its rhythm-action roguelite where music is the law of the world. The game locks in a launch date of October 12 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A release date trailer is out now.

Watch the Release Date Trailer:

A run of Alpha Nomos is a fight through room after room of corrupted puppets, each arena harder than the last. Clear one and you move up, picking upgrades that shape how the next stretch plays. Fall and the run ends, but you start the next one sharper, pushing a little further into the ruined world each time.

Everything in Alpha Nomos is tied to the beat and hitting your timing is what separates a clean run from a messy one. Every attack, dodge and ability only lands when you play it in time and a room can turn on you the second you drift off tempo. Cello swings instruments as weapons, all of them recorded live so you hear a real player behind every hit, while audio powerups like Reverb, Flanger, Delay and 4 more reshape her moveset and the track as you go.

The launch build carries the full puppetcore world: abandoned cities, a corrupted circus and enemies stitched from things that used to be whole. Behind the clown faces and empty streets are the two questions Cello has been chasing all along: what silenced the music and what happened to her friends. October 12 is where those answers start to arrive.

“Picking a date is terrifying and it’s also the best feeling in the world. We’ve spent this whole project asking players to trust that rhythm could carry an entire game, not sit on top of one. On October 12 they get to hold the whole thing and hear what we meant,” said Emil Lager, CTO  at RibCage Games.

KEY FEATURES

  • Beat-Synced Combat: Every attack, dodge and ability locks to the beat and landing your hits on rhythm is what makes them hit harder.
  • Live Instruments: Each weapon sound is a real studio recording rather than a sample library, so you can hear a person playing behind every strike.
  • Audio Powerups: Reverb, Flanger, Delay and 4 more reshape both how Cello fights and how the soundtrack sounds while she does it.
  • Roguelite Runs: Fight through advancing arenas and build out upgrades that carry across each run into the next.
  • Puppetcore: Explore ruined cities and a corrupted circus filled with enemies that were once part of something whole.
  • Original Score: The soundtrack comes from Totem Warriors, recorded live to sit inside the game’s rhythm systems.
  • Accessible: A timing offset lets players of every skill level tune the game so it feels rewarding rather than punishing.

Watch Pigxel go hog-wild with an arsenal of crud-crushing tools in the new early access release date trailer

LOS ANGELES – September 24, 2026 – Dirt’s days are officially numbered. Acclaim, Inc. and Valadria today announced that Pixel Washer, the cozy, retro-inspired power-washing sim where players restore a grimy pixelated town to its former glory, sprays its way onto Steam Early Access on October 15. Grime’s on borrowed time for Switch & Switch 2 owners as well, who’ll be able to get their hooves on what’s destined to be the best pig-centric cleaning sim of the year, shortly after in 2027.

“What a genuine thrill to be working with Acclaim! I’ve been a fan for decades so this feels surreal to me,” said Valadria founder Matt Hackett. “I had been working on Pixel Washer for many months “all by myself”, but then Acclaim signed on to help me make Pixel Washer much bigger and cooler than I could have on my own. I hope players are ready for a simple, relaxing game that’s easy to play and hard to put down. Oink!”

To mark the date, Acclaim has released a new trailer. Watch as Pixel Washer’s plucky porcine protagonist Pigxel takes on the filthiest jobs in town. The footage reveals even more grime-caked locales players will be tasked with cleaning when the game launches into Early Access next month.

Early Access Note: Pixel Washer’s October 15 launch marks the beginning of a broader content roadmap for Pigxel. Throughout Early Access, Valadria and Acclaim will continue expanding the game with new content, features, quality-of-life improvements, and community-driven updates, while also exploring crossover and licensing opportunities. This ongoing development will build toward the full 1.0 release and planned console rollout, supported by a larger worldwide scrubbing.

Developed by California-based indie developer Valadria, Pixel Washer puts players behind the stylish goggles of Pigxel, a pig tasked with turning filthy environments into shining pixel art masterpieces. Armed with a trusty power washer, players blast dirty sprites back to a pixel-perfect shine across a wide variety of sullied settings, all set to a chill soundtrack.

Can’t wait until October 15 to get your hands dirty? Download the Pixel Washer demo on Steam here.

Key Features

  • Wash and Restore – Use your power washer to blast away grime and bring beautiful pixel art levels back to their full glory.
  • Upgrade Your Arsenal – Earn money on the job and spend it on more powerful washers, new vehicles, and additional equipment.
  • Cozy Vibes – Relax to a chill soundtrack and satisfying sound design that makes cleaning feel like a reward, not a chore.
  • Explore a Pixelated World – Choose from a wide variety of pixel art levels and discover the charm hiding under all that dirt.

Creators of video game music tribute channel JT Music branch out into original horror games

RALEIGH, North Carolina – 25 Sept. 2026 – The first playable demo for Terrible Lizards, the first-person horror platformer with buried secrets from the minds behind the popular JT Music YouTube channel’s new game studio WDR Studios, is now available on PC via Steam for PC, ahead of the Thursday, Oct. 29 launch on Steam, XBOX Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Jordan is stranded and alone on Route 66, with the only sign of civilization a rundown tourist trap, Dalton’s Dinos. The lights are out, but when you’re alone in the desert, your options are limited, even if that place gives you the creeps.

Jumping the gate and dodging electrical hazards proves that all of his time on the UCLA track team and studying parkour didn’t go to waste, but getting in was the easy part. Now, Jordan is desperately searching for a way to call for help, and wondering why a missing mascot costume is filling him with dread.

But no amount of track practice can prepare you for the abject terror of having to run and hide from dinosaurs.

Use mobility to stay alive in portions of the first two levels of this acrobatic survival adventure full of enigmatic apex predators. Use your wits to cross difficult paths or unlock heavily guarded locations, all the while evading the monsters that could strike at any moment.

If walking dinosaurs weren’t weird enough, things only get stranger as Jordan explores the digsite beneath Dalton’s Dinos in the full game, launching Thursday, Oct. 29. What happened to Dalton, his wife Elena, and their son, Dalton Jr.? The first clues to these answers lie in the demo for the debut title from the minds behind JT Music, who have made music paying tribute to their favorite games, and are now crafting their own original horror experience.

“Christian and I at JT Music have been making music about games for years, and are massive horror fans, so developing our own title seemed like a natural fit,” said John Gelardi, co-founder of WDR Studios and JT Music, and the Producer and Designer on Terrible Lizards.

“We’ve drawn from our collective nostalgia for the 1990s and classic horror titles to create something original. We’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with amazing developers like Amanda Farough to help us fully realize our vision of a one-of-a-kind horror experience.”

Terrible Lizards is currently slated to launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X|S on Thursday, 29 Oct, 2026, with news on other platforms to be announced at a later date. The FC Mobile 27 Season Update also introduces two new PlayStyles, expanding player choice on the pitch across passing and set pieces:

  • Incisive Through Pass – More accurate, leading ground through passes.
  • Dead Ball – Revamped free kicks with greater bend and precision for players with the appropriate attributes and PlayStyle.

A refreshed visual experience gives the new season of FC Mobile an updated look and feel, elevating match presentation across the gameplay HUD, loading screens, player indicators and other elements throughout the experience.

Beyond the 27 Season Update, MLS action continues in EA SPORTS FC Mobile on October 10, when players worldwide can watch Vancouver Whitecaps FC take on Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) live at 7:30 PM PT / 10:30 PM ET through the in-game FCM TV portal. As part of EA SPORTS FC’s collaboration with Major League Soccer and Apple TV, fans can tune into the live in-game simulcast* and be rewarded with in-game currency.

With the FC Mobile 27 Season Update, there are more ways to build, play and stay connected to the action, as the wider EA SPORTS FC community looks ahead to the September 25 launch of EA SPORTS FC 27, available now through Early Access with the Ultimate Edition**.

EMBRACE THE UNEXPECTED IN MAGIC: THE GATHERING REALITY FRACTURE

0

In Jace’s Echoverse, a new reality brings chaotic twists and shocking turns to your favourite characters and spells

September 25, 2026 — Wizards of the Coast today launched Prerelease events at WPN stores for Reality Fracture, the latest set for the popular trading card game, Magic: The Gathering (MTG). As Jace Beleren’s alternate reality, The Echoverse, invades the Multiverse, your favourite characters and spells won’t be quite as you remember when Reality Fracture lands on the tabletop from October 2.

Reality Isn’t Quite As It Seems

This is the end. Reality Fracture marks the conclusion of an epic three-year arc in the universe of Magic: The Gathering. Jace Beleren’s alternate reality is crashing into our Multiverse – it’s your choice to confront him in his twisted world, or join him as a student of Hexhaven.

Reality Fracture brings twisted versions of cards you’ve played with over 30 years of Magic, warped in Jace’s vision. You’ll also be presented with Echoed Pairs of characters you know and love, their alternate pathways brought to life in cards that mirror one another appearing in the same pack.

Multiversal Mechanics

Marking the end of the saga are new and returning mechanics designed to flip any game on its head. These mechanics include:

  • Empower Jace – When triggered, cards with ‘Empower Jace’ either make a Jace Planeswalker Token or adds loyalty counters if you already have one in play.
  • Prepared Creatures – A returning mechanic from Secrets of Strixhaven, creatures with a spell that you can cast so long as they’re prepared. Each preparation card has a two-part frame, with the left side housing the creature’s abilities, and the right side housing its spell.

Multiverse Reforged

Reimagine a new Multiverse with Jace at the helm and a deck full of alternate-reality versions of beloved Magic creatures. Reveal your master plan by replacing tokens with these new twisted creatures and bring order, just the way Jace envisioned it!

Collecting Reality Fracture

Reality Fracture introduces a raft of new cards for you to wrap your mind around, along with never-before-seen card treatments to stand out in your collection. The headliner of the set is Bloodline Recollector, a serialised card limited to just 500 across all realities. This double rainbow foil treatment can only be found in Collector Boosters.

Fans of Secrets of Strixhaven may find this card somewhat familiar. That’s right, both visually and mechanically, it’s a warped version of that set’s headliner card – Emeritus of Ideation.

Brand-new to Reality Fracture are Shattered Mirror cards. These new treatments showcase a card’s inspiration right alongside its Echoverse counterpart. One card representing multiple realities. There are just 13 Shattered Mirror cards in the set, with unique facet foil versions appearing in Collector Boosters, while non-foil versions appear in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

Split across realities yet joined as one, Borderless Echoed Pairs depict a clash across realms between the different versions of notable characters from the story, like Chandra. Here, Chandra’s fire magic clashes against her chilly counterpart’s ice spells. There are 15 pairs total, each displaying stunning artwork across that extends across both cards. Borderless Echoed Pairs can be found in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

Is your mind not boggled enough yet? Then the Braintwister Series Cards are here to finish the job. These 23 card variants can be found in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, tricking your senses with the most dizzying effects of the set.

Ten cards from the Reality Fracture set have been reimagined as Japan Showcase cards, with artwork inspired by Japanese hobby shops, complete with a special card frame. Traditional foil and fracture foil Japan Showcase cards appear only in Collector Boosters.

Get in on Secret Lair’s dazzling artwork with the Secret Lair Bundle Promo Cards. This mind-bending collection brings together everything you love about the set, infusing ten cards with wild Secret Lair visuals. The Bundle houses 2 Collector Boosters, 6 Play Boosters, a set of traditional foil basic lands, and 2 of 10 traditional foil Secret Lair Bundle promo cards.

Reality Fracture also includes rare Dual Lands, opening portals to familiar dimensions. Like Secrets of Strixhaven before it, these Portal Lands align with Hexhaven college colours. These can be found as non-foil and foil versions in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

Lastly, basic lands also get their own unique treatment, depicting the impossibly tall Jace Tower. The structure is represented in the set through borderless art spanning 15 Land cards, three for each colour, in total. You might need a bigger table to show these off in your next game.

Magic: The Gathering Reality Fracture includes Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, a Commander Deck, Prerelease Packs, Draft Night, Bundles and Secret Lair Bundles.

Discover the political intrigue of a collapsing government.

September 24, 2026: Don’t Pick Up, the latest narrative-driven horror title from Quarter Games and GRIME and GRIME II developer Clover Bite, is available for players to play today in a free demo published on Steam.

Developed by Quarter Games, Don’t Pick Up sees players working in a government-certified phone and communication device repair shop in an alternative dystopian 2000s. The authoritarian government’s policies and restrictions shift on a daily basis, changing what the player can legally service, what parts they can use, and which customers they can accept.

Don’t Pick Up — Official Announcement Trailer

The game’s rich world of political intrigue reveals itself as the devices themselves become a source of forbidden discovery. As players go through customers’ phones, they discover information about the various factions, conspiracies, and individuals caught up in the ongoing political collapse taking place in the outside world.

The choices the player makes as they navigate the political intrigue will have a direct impact on how the story plays out – so long as they are prepared to live with the consequences.

Features:

  • Maintain full compliance. A first-person psychological horror set in a dystopian alternate history.
  • Repair customer devices. Each phone that comes through your door needs fixing. What else you find inside it is your business – and your responsibility.
  • Make sound decisions. Multiple endings. Shaped entirely by the choices you make – who you serve, what you report, what you keep to yourself. Choose carefully.
  • Follow the daily directives. New government regulations arrive every morning. Stay compliant or suffer the consequences.
  • Handle sensitive information with care. Each device may contain things their owners didn’t intend to share. Things the government doesn’t want people to know.
  • Serve the community.  An escalating political crisis is unfolding more each day, always visible from your window.

A free Don’t Pick Up demo is available on Steam right now. Wishlist the game today!
