Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT GAMES and The LEGO® Group ANNOUNCE THE EXPANSION OF LEGO® DIMENSIONS™

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT GAMES and The LEGO® Group ANNOUNCE THE EXPANSION OF LEGO® DIMENSIONS™

Even More Blockbuster Franchises, All-New Battle Arenas, Bigger Adventure Worlds and the Introduction of Story Packs Offer Gamers New Ways to Play in 2016 and Beyond.

Expansion Pack Assortment Will Add 16 Fan-Favourite Universes for More Mind-Blowing Mash-ups!

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO® Group today announced the expansion of LEGO® DIMENSIONS™, the LEGO® toy and videogame hybrid, with more blockbuster franchises and even bigger gameplay possibilities. New expansion packs broaden the complete selection to 30 of the world’s most popular entertainment brands allowing players to customise their experience by mixing and matching favourite characters and universes with full compatibility. Game features adding to the fun are all-new, four-player competitive Battle Arenas, a first for LEGO® videogames, as well as Story Packs, which provide deep, story-driven gameplay around the biggest theatrical releases and include a fresh LEGO® brick building experience.

LEGO® Dimensions™ packs based on 16 new entertainment properties will begin launching on September 27, 2016 with the Ghostbusters Story Pack, Adventure Time and Mission: Impossible Level Packs, Harry Potter and Adventure Time Team Packs, and The A-Team Fun Pack.  Additional expansion packs based on other highly anticipated films Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The LEGO® Batman Movie and wildly popular properties The Goonies, Sonic The Hedgehog, Teen Titans Go!, LEGO® City Undercover, Knight Rider, The Powerpuff Girls, Gremlins, Beetlejuice and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial will be released in product waves stretching into mid next year. All expansion packs provide players with continued compatibility to use everything from waves 1-9 interchangeably, anywhere throughout the game.  And no new starter pack is required, as all new packs will simply enhance the LEGO® Dimensions™ Starter Pack game and work with the existing LEGO® Toy Pad.

“We’ve built upon the existing LEGO® DIMENSIONS™ Starter Pack to expand the gameplay possibilities with entirely new LEGO® experiences that can’t be found anywhere else,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “We can now provide players with even more customization and mash-up opportunities, and all are compatible with the existing game and packs. Battle Arenas also introduce a fun new way for friends and family to join the action together and battle as favorite characters, which is an exciting innovation for LEGO® videogames.”

“LEGO® DIMENSIONS is a significant part of our LEGO® videogames portfolio, and we are excited to offer fans many more iconic entertainment franchises combined with new, enhanced ways to play,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “TT Games continues to innovate and expand the game experience, which gives players breakthrough digital and physical gameplay with an amazing amount of world-class entertainment properties connected together.”

“We are excited to continue our partnership with TT Games and WBIE and bring even more characters to life through LEGO® DIMENSIONS™,” said Niels Jørgensen, Vice President, Digital Games for the LEGO® Group. “The videogame has allowed our fans to extend their LEGO® play experience in a whole new way and the new expansion packs will create even more play possibilities through exciting properties.”

All-new Battle Arenas will offer first-to-LEGO® videogames competitive split-screen local gameplay for up to four players. LEGO® minifigures included in the wave 6 through 9 expansion packs will come with special, golden Toy Tags which unlock a Battle Arena within the Free Play Adventure World of the corresponding entertainment brand.  Each Battle Arena has four different gameplay modes and comes with its own traps, special powers and interactive environments that make every battle arena unique.

The Ghostbusters Story Pack, based on the upcoming film, will provide a complete movie-based gameplay experience with six puzzle-packed levels and new LEGO® Gateway bricks that allow players to build Zhu’s Chinese Restaurant atop the LEGO® Toy Pad.  It will also come with a buildable Abby Yates LEGO® minifigure with Proton Blaster and 3-in-1 buildable Ecto-1 which can be rebuilt into the Ectozer and The PerfEcto. The pack unlocks “Rip,” a new Toy Pad mode allowing players to tear open an alternate universe. In this mirror world, players have the ability to solve puzzles and affect objects and other items in the primary universe. And like all gold-tag minifigures purchased, Abby Yates provides access to a new themed Adventure World with its own unique Battle Arena.  The Ghostbusters Story Pack is just the first of this new exciting pack type, with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on the highly anticipated theatrical release, still to come later this year.  The LEGO® DIMENSIONS™ packs will be the exclusive construction toy offering this holiday for the exciting expansion of J.K Rowling’s Wizarding World.

Story Packs also expand the Starter Pack story with deeper gameplay. In the game’s storyline, the evil Lord Vortech has hidden portions of his powers around the LEGO® Multiverse. As players progress through Story Pack levels, they can unearth and tap into Keystone Runes to use Lord Vortech’s powers against him through all-new Toy Pad modes.

Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, LEGO® DIMENSIONS™ is now available for PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and the Wii U™ system.

About Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. Eddie Redmayne stars under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four Harry Potter features.

The story opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander (Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them also stars Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Ron Perlman, Carmen Ejogo, Jenn Murray, Faith Wood-Blagrove, and Colin Farrell.  The film marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, whose script was inspired by the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, written by her character Newt Scamander.  The film reunites a number of people from the Harry Potter features, including producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.

About The LEGO Batman Movie

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO® Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure.  But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.  Will Arnett reprises his starring role from The LEGO Movie as the voice of Batman, aka Bruce Wayne.  Zach Galifianakis stars as The Joker; Michael Cera as the orphan Dick Grayson; Rosario Dawson as Barbara Gordon; and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred.  The film is directed by Chris McKay, and produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.  It is written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, with additional screenplay material by Jared Stern & John Whittington, based on LEGO Construction Toys, in association with LEGO System AS.  Chris McKay also serves as an executive producer, alongside Ryan Harris.

A Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, The LEGO Batman Movie will open in theaters on February 10, 2017. It will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Overview

The year is 2110. Humanity has begun exploring space and experimenting with ways to adapt the human body to the environment of outer space. Earth ends up at war with an alien species known as the Wulgaru for an unknown reason. Team Rabbits is a group of genetically enhanced children who are being trained to fight in the war against the Wulgaru. Toshikazu Asagi, Kei Kugumiya, Tamaki Irie, Ataru Suruga and Izuru Hitachi are the members of Team Rabbits, which is also commonly known as the Fail Five. Their teamwork is greatly lacking at first, but they eventually become close to each other and develop both as individuals and as a team. They slowly learn how to pilot their mecha suits, but almost lose their new identities and their lives in the process.

Story

It comes as no surprise that Majestic Prince is an unoriginal series based on its premise. Some unoriginal ideas used in this series include: genetically enhanced children, a mecha suit that fuses with the pilot’s DNA and an enemy race that looks suspiciously similar to humans. The idea of genetically enhancing children in order to prepare them for piloting mecha is disturbing, but not original. On this version of Earth, children are taken from their parents/guardians at the age of 12 and have their memories erased. Essentially, they are raised and ‘enhanced’ for militaristic purposes. They have to develop new identities, but some begin to seriously question their existence as a result of this process. The actual process of genetically enhancing the children is not shown, but it is a particularly disturbing idea nonetheless. That the humans turn out to be the distant ancestors of the Wulgaru is not terribly surprising. The lack of surprises in this series goes to show just how stale the genre is at this point, and how little effort has been put into making this series stand out.

Majestic-Prince-Screenshot-01

The Wulgaru think of themselves as superior to the humans. They are only interested in advancing their own society; the majority of them could not care less about the other races that have evolved from their gene pool. Prince Jiart, the brother of the king of the Wulgaru, is depicted as particularly lustful and barbaric. His evilness extends as far as raping a Wulgaru woman, one of his own kind. He then immediately has sex with a colleague of his, a high-ranking person who, for some reason, has no problem sexually objectifying herself. Considering that mecha series are almost always set in the future, it makes no sense that these series continually present despicable and downright evil men and fail to promote gender equality at all. The author of the original manga clearly did not care about the potential female audience. Not just for the aforementioned reason either, but also because Tamaki and Kei are poorly developed characters. Tamaki is always going on about guys and pickled squid guts and Kei is constantly baking suspicious-looking cakes that always have far too much sugar in them. There are some hints at romantic feelings between some characters, and there are some emotional moments later on in the series, but the characterisation itself is disappointingly weak. Suruga provides some entertainment with his incredible knowledge of weaponry, but Asagi’s constant upset stomach should not be the most noteworthy element of his character during the first half of the series. Izuru’s wish to be a hero is understandable, but still generic. It is difficult to become invested in any part of the series. What could have been a sad and moving moment in the second half of the series instead ends up being a generic plot point that is entirely predictable. The series could have been better if it depicted the events that occur after the war with the Wulgaru ends, although this problem may be rectified when the new OVA episode and film are released.

Visuals

The visuals are almost entirely unimpressive. When a mecha series has bad animation, something is very wrong. There is a heavy reliance on 3D CGI, but most Japanese studios except Square Enix have yet to master the use of 3D CGI in anime. The textures look cheap, unrealistic and outdated. Furthermore, as is common with this type of animation, frames are missing from most sequences featuring 3D animation. This is intentional, but it shuddering animation simply does not look good. It is hard enough to enter a sense of disbelief while watching this series, and this consistent problem with Japanese 3D animation does not help at all. The 2D animation is average, but not bad. The action scenes are extremely fast paced, so much so that it becomes hard to follow what is happening at times. There is surprisingly little blood, but there is a small amount of blood present in a few shots towards the climax of the war. There is not one element of the animation that stands out in a positive way, making it worse that there are several attempts at ‘fan-service’ throughout the series. Tamaki has unnaturally large breasts; they bounce around frequently, and, realistically, are probably causing her enormous back pains. The different level of gravity in outer space cannot be used as a defence for this either, seeing as this problem is also present when she is on Earth. The same problem exists with Reika Saionji, the head mechanic of Team Rabbits, as well as other characters who wear revealing clothes even in cold settings.

Majestic-Prince-Screenshot-03

Audio

The voice acting in the English dub ranges from average to slightly above average. The adult characters sound believable. The voice actors of the children give a reasonably convincing performance too, but Monica Rial is once again an annoyingly bad choice for a child character. It is impossible to believe her performance as Tamaki purely because her voice sounds nothing like a 15-year-old’s voice. This is not the only problem with the English dub, unfortunately. There are several missing lines of dialogue throughout the series. To find out what these lines were, the English subtitles should be turned on. Unfortunately, having the subtitles on while listening to the English dub reveals another problem. That problem is the inappropriate translation of elements the original script. The most noticeable instance is the use of the word ‘have’ instead of ‘rape’, the latter being the translation used for the subtitles. The meanings of other statements are altered too, so it is not recommended to listen to the English audio track unless you absolutely have to watch anime with English-dubbed audio. The background music is slightly above average. It is fitting, but does not stand out in any other way. The theme songs are below average.

Majestic-Prince-Screenshot-04

Extras

The Japanese promotional videos and the textless opening and ending animations are supposed to be included as extras. However, they are not present on any of the discs. The information on the back of the box suggests that they should be on one of the discs, but the individual package details for Parts One and Two do not support this.

Overall

It takes a few episodes for the story to start making sense, which is not a good way for an anime series to start. There are just a couple of episodes that really bring the series down to the point of being unwatchable, but even considered as a whole, Majestic Prince could have been a lot better. The personality ‘traits’ given to the main characters make it difficult to develop an emotional attachment to any of the characters. The poor use of characterisation in anime and manga is by no means a new problem, but it is a shame that the characters and just about every element of the plot end up being as generic as it gets for a mecha series. It is not the worst series to spend ten hours watching, but it does not stand out in any positive way.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Prologue Gets E3 Trailer & Release Window

Kingdom-Hearts-HD-2-8-Final-Chapter-Prologue-screenshot-01

Kingdom Hearts III is perhaps one of the most anticipated titles of this generation but unfortunately it’s still a fair ways off from being in our hands. To tide us over, Square Enix is bringing us the sort of third ‘remastered’ Kingdom Hearts game titled Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and just a week shy of E3 a new trailer has been released in multiple languages including English which you can view embedded below.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (or KHHD2.8FCP… I’ll just call it 2.8) includes two playable games and a cinematic retelling. The first playable game is a remaster of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance which originally released for the Nintendo 3DS back in March 2012. The second game is an all new adventure called Birth By Sleep 0.2 – A Fragmentary Passage and features Aqua as the playable character. The trailer also gives us a brief glimpse at what may be Terra, who was last seen being lost to the darkness in Birth By Sleep.

Kingdom-Hearts-HD-2-8-Final-Chapter-Prologue-screenshot-06

Lastly, Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover contains cinematics based on the mobile version of what was originally a browser based game in Kingdom Hearts Unchained X (pronounced chi). This story predates all games that have been released before and tells the tale of the Foretellers, which seem to have some connection to the zodiac with each member representing an animal. In a separate announcement, the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter announced the mobile version will be coming to both iOS and Android in Europe (and maybe Australia) in the near future. The game is already available in North America and Japan.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 will be releasing worldwide in December of this year so we don’t have to wait too long to get a first hand glimpse of how beautiful Kingdom Hearts III will look like as both Back Cover and Birth By Sleep 0.2 will be using the same engine as that game. Speaking of KH III, at the very end of the trailer it says to expect more information this U.S. winter (Dec, Jan, Feb). Don’t forget to check out the trailer for yourself below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

SYDNEY, 9TH June 2016 – Open Bionics, the award-winning robotics start-up, Eidos®-Montréal, the award-winning video game studio that is the home of the Deus Ex® franchise and Razer, a world leader in connected devices and software for gamers, today announced that they will be working together to bring Deus Ex inspired augmentations to life. The three companies will partner up to help bridge the gap between fiction and reality, working together to design, 3D print, scan, power, and create affordable bionic hands. This “Augmented Future” initiative will combine the expertise of each company, with the ultimate goal being to make fashionable robotic prosthesis accessible to a larger audience.

The Deus Ex Universe® depicts a near future where human beings are equipped with prosthetics that give them enhanced capabilities. Although being a fantasy world, the Deus Ex Universe is recognized for being at the forefront of the discussions on transhumanism and bionic augmentations. Eidos-Montréal’s team of artists are striving to create state of the art designs inspired by this universe and the characters within it. Adam Jensen, the main protagonist in the series, was a particular source of inspiration when creating the designs for both The Titan Arm and The Adam Arm prostheses. These, and other prostheses, will soon be available for everyone, from adults to kids of all ages, with models being created for both boys and girls. Eidos-Montréal and Open Bionics are providing these blueprints and designs royalty free, granting anyone the ability to access and use them whenever they wish.

Open Bionics will devote its team of experts to bring these models to life, using the latest technology in 3D printing to create unique prostheses. “Working with Deus Ex to re-imagine the future of bionic prosthetics has been a fantastic creative process. It is has been made even better by seeing people wear the bionic arms and get so much enjoyment out of it. This collaboration goes to show how bright the future of bionics is. We feel lucky to have been able to work with the design team at Deus Ex. They’ve been incredibly generous with their time and ideas throughout this project. We’re excited to see this relationship continue to grow” said Joel Gibbard, CEO at Open Bionics.

The Razer “Stargazer” camera and a motion tracking technology will help to bring this bionic arm initiative to a virtual setting, allowing people to digitally ‘try on’ the arm at events, effectively enabling a real-time demonstration of how the arm would look and move if it they were actually using it. “We’re excited to contribute to this incredible partnership with the Razer Stargazer. As the world’s most advanced webcam, it is a precise hand tracking solution that allows everyone to experience first-hand the future of augmentations,” said Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan.

– Deus Ex joins the GO line up-

SYDNEY, 9TH June 2016 – Award-winning Canadian studios Eidos®-Montréal and Square-Enix® Montréal today announced two new additions to the Deus Ex Universe®: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided® – Breach and Deus Ex GO™, both bringing new elements to the rich transmedia universe.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Breach is an innovative game mode included in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. This new take on the game offers, for the very first time, an arcade approach on the gameplay of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, providing players with a connected puzzle shooter experience. As a Ripper, your objective is to obtain and sell highly classified corporate data by infiltrating some of the world’s most secure servers, using the funds you acquire to upgrade both your skills and arsenal. As you play, the rewards you earn, including XP, credits, and booster packs, will allow you to face the increasing difficulty of the game. Challenge yourself, your friends, and people from around the world in the ultimate Deus Ex® arcade twist. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Breach is a live game mode, introducing new challenges and features by rolling out updates on a regular basis.

“We are introducing a brand new game mode to Deus Ex. In addition to being a new visual approach for the players, the Breach mode broadens the lore of the Deus Ex universe” said David Anfossi, Head of Studio at Eidos-Montréal. “Breach also reinforces Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’s gameplay experience with a totally different setting”

Deus Ex GO is a turn-based infiltration puzzle game set in a stylized interpretation of the Deus Ex Universe. As double agent Adam Jensen, you’ll use hacking, combat, and augmentations to solve the most challenging puzzles of the entire GO series. Work alongside your allies in TF29 and the Juggernaut Collective as you infiltrate locations to unravel the conspiracy behind a terrorist plot.”

“With Deus Ex, we are taking the GO franchise to another level. We are building on the learnings of Hitman™ and Lara Croft® to go a step further with Deus Ex in terms of visual, game design and social features” said Patrick Naud, Head of Studio at Square Enix Montreal.

The Deus Ex Universe is also expanding outside of the video game world: Eidos-Montréal has partnered with Open Bionics, the award-winning robotics start-up and Razer, the world leader in creating connected devices and software for gamers to bring Deus Ex inspired augmentations to life. The three companies will partner up to help bridge the gap between fiction and reality, working together to design, 3D print, scan, power, and create affordable bionic hands. This initiative will combine the expertise of each company, with the ultimate goal being to make fashionable robotic prosthesis accessible to a larger audience. More information can be found here.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will launch on August 23rd for PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Deus Ex GO will be arriving this winter on phones and tablets.

Build the Ultimate Version of Your Favourite DC Characters in the Super-Powered Sequel to NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice™: Gods Among Us

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment yesterday announced Injustice 2, the super-powered sequel to the hit game Injustice: Gods Among Us.  The newest game in development from the award-winning NetherRealm Studios features a massive roster of DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains and allows players to build and power up the ultimate version of their favourite DC characters.  Injustice™ 2 will be available for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One in 2017.

The official Injustice™ 2 trailer can be viewed here:  https://youtu.be/hX0WA6yIZ7I

“In Injustice™ 2, we are introducing new features that will change the way fans play fighting games,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios.  “We’re always interested in pushing the genre forward and allowing players to customise and level-up their favourite DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains is a significant leap.”

“Expanding the DC Universe in games continues to be one of our top priorities, and Injustice™ 2 showcases amazing gameplay and an original story to bring the characters to life for players,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  “NetherRealm Studios is offering fans an experience of customising and battling with DC’s iconic characters in an entirely new way.”

Injustice™ 2 offers the latest DC fighting game experience that expands on the previous title’s larger-than-life showdowns.  Every battle defines you in a game where players personalise iconic DC characters with unique and powerful gear earned throughout the game.  For the first time gamers can take control of how their characters look, fight and develop across a variety of game modes.

Injustice™ 2 continues the epic cinematic story introduced in Injustice: Gods Among Us as Batman and his allies work towards putting the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime.  In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth’s existence at risk.  Players can play from the biggest DC roster ever offered in a fighting game, from classic fan favourites such as Batman, Superman, Supergirl and Aquaman, to astonishing new villains like Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd.  Battles will take place across arenas that have evolved in scale and span across iconic locations such as Metropolis, Gotham City and Atlantis.

To celebrate the announcement of Injustice™ 2, fans who have downloaded the hugely successful Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile game can unlock the Injustice™ 2 versions of Superman and Aquaman through the in-game Challenge Modes.  Released in 2013 and developed from the ground up by NetherRealm Studios, the Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile game is available as a free download on the App Store and Google Play.
