NEXT UP HERO ANNOUNCED FOR PS4, XBOX ONE, AND NINTENDO SWITCH

AUSTIN, TX — JULY 7, 2017 – Aspyr Media and Digital Continue announced today that Next Up Hero is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux in early 2018.

Next Up Hero is an arcade action-adventure driven by Community Continue, in which players take turns fighting — and dying — in community game sessions, working to conquer impossibly hard monsters and bosses together, one hero at a time.

Choose from nine heroes with an assortment of weapons and abilities to suit your playstyle, from swords and rocket launchers to laser turrets, bongo drums, and boomerangs. When you die, you’ll leave behind an Echo of your hero on the battlefield. The next in the line of heroes will be able to resurrect your Echo as an AI battle companion. Take turns continuing friends’ games, fighting and dying until you have an entire army of Echoes by your side, and enough strength to finally defeat those jerk monsters. Everyone dies. Heroes continue.

Next Up Hero is the first original game from developer Digital Continue, founded by industry veteran Joe Tringali, the co-founder of 5TH Cell, creators of Scribblenauts, Lock’s Quest and Drawn to Life.

Next Up Hero is being developed with community feedback, beginning with an exclusive closed beta launch at RTX Austin today, and moving to Steam’s Early Access in the fall. Digital Continue will incorporate community ideas to improve characters, modes, weapons, attacks, and enemy types for the final game, launching in early 2018.

(Toronto/Vancouver, July 7, 2017) – Netflix has ordered a second season of Castlevania its new animated series based on the popular video game series. In addition, the network has increased the episode order from four in its first season to eight for the second season. The new Netflix original series Castlevania launches globally today and is the first proprietary production of Frederator Studios under the umbrella of parent company WOW! Unlimited Media (TSX-V WOW.A and WOW.B).

 

Inspired by the classic video game series from Japan’s Konami, Castlevania is an animated project written by best-selling author and comic book legend Warren Ellis. Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy that follows the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepes himself. Overview

Nex Machina is a twin stick shooter with cutting edge modern graphics. Set in a world where humans have been surpassed by artificial intelligence, robots have decided to overthrow the humans and take Earth for themselves. Players must now shoot down hundreds of robots and save the hapless humans to prevent praising their new robot overlords. Nex Machina features six worlds and over a hundred levels filled with secret paths and collectibles to discover.

Story

The premise of Nex Machina is as deep as the story gets. This is an old school arcade game that does not have time for silly things like plots. It only wants to know if you plan on continuing or not.

Gameplay

Nex Machina is a classic twin stick arcade shooter for the modern era. There are over a hundred short levels split across six worlds. Each level consists of a variety of enemies that will spawn in at a pre-set pattern with optional objectives like special enemies to kill and humans to rescue. Enemies vary from the standard cannon fodder to particularly nasty robots that fire a special laser at blistering speeds that cannot be dashed through. Each world is capped off with an awesome multi-phase boss fight that puts the player’s movement skills to the test.

The level design is excellent. The game gets progressively harder at a good pace and new mechanical challenges are introduced with some regularity. Trying to complete the optional objectives also gives the game a nice boost in difficulty, providing arcade veterans a much needed challenge. The sheer number of secret levels and collectibles available gives the game plenty of replayability.

Controls are pretty standard for twin stick shooters. Beyond the normal movement directions, players can also dash after a short cooldown, granting them a quick burst of speed and invincibility. This will allow them to pass through the straight pink lasers, but not the braided lasers. Players have their primary weapon that fires endlessly and is modified by a variety of battlefield boosts. A secondary weapon pickup that rotates between a variety of weapons can also be found scattered across some of the levels, giving players a chance to find something that suits their playstyle if they are patient enough to wait out their preferred weapon.

Arcade is the standard mode, offering four tiers of difficulty. Players start at the very first level and attempt to progress through all six worlds. The number of continues available to the player will vary based on the difficulty level. If players are looking to hone their skills on a single world, then the aptly named Single World mode is available. Multiplayer is also available as local couch co-op. To unlock customization options or battle it out for high scores, players can try the Online Arena mode where specific challenges are laid out. Completing them will reward players with coins that unlocks new skins and colours. As an added bonus, players can also view the replays of high score runs on the same platform. It’s a great opportunity to bone up on some new tactics.  While Arcade mode is the bread and butter of Nex Machina, Online Arena is a interesting new way to add some extra replayability to the game.

Nex Machina is nearly perfect and would probably have earned a score reflecting that if I was grading the game on the console. Unfortunately, the game’s PC version is a little clunky. The mouse and keyboard controls are just awful. Movement with the keyboard works well enough, but the mouse is terrible. In my testing, the gunfire has a weird habit of randomly hopping to the other side of my character instead of following the direction of the mouse. I am also pretty sure that the mouse controls only fire in eight possible directions while the thumbstick can fire at any degree in a circle. Binding keyboard and mouse keys work well enough, but switching from mouse and keyboard to controller is unintuitive and the instructions are vague. Most games will automatically detect when an Xbox controller is plugged into Windows and switch over. Nex Machina on the other hand needs players to manually switch the controls over, and it does not make it very clear that the player needs to hit tab to cycle the input type. I had to wade into the Steam forums to find that out from the developers, who admitted it wasn’t the cleanest of implementations.

If PC players can get their hands on a controller for Nex Machina, they will be treated to the same fantastic experience their console brethren are getting. The controller performs incredibly well. Everything is extremely responsive and the four button layouts are mapped to keep everything close at hand. I like the fact the shoulder and trigger buttons are automatically mapped to the same key.

Visuals

If Geometry Wars was all about presenting the twin stick shooter in the most minimalistic way possible, then Nex Machina is the antithesis of that mentality. The game is all about pushing the boundaries with cutting edge graphics and plenty of objects bouncing around the screen. The art style is a modern take on the retro alien robot design. Nex Machina is visually chaotic when the action gets going, but there is a beauty in the madness. The animations are fantastic, and the transition animations between levels are a special touch. Everything that is mechanically important is visually distinct, making it easy for players with sharp eyes to pick up on vital cues quickly.

On the technical side, Nex Machina has a minimum system specs that is worthy of its impressive graphics. Don’t let the twin stick shooter thing fool you, rendering all those flying objects on screen demands a lot of horse power. Surprisingly, the graphic customization options are a little on the thin side.

Audio

Nex Machina delivers a solid audio experience. The sound effects are excellent. The soundtrack is fantastic. It is filled with pulse raising dance and techno music that pairs beautifully with the games fast paced action. The bass and the gunfire seem to meld together seamlessly, creating an amazing rhythm for the game.

Overall

Nex Machina is a fantastic twin stick shooter. It features an excellent visual presentation and an amazing electronic soundtrack. The gameplay is tight and incredibly fun. There is plenty of replay value between the Online Arena mode and the mass of secrets to discover. It’s just a shame that the keyboard and mouse implementation is so awkward. If you are going to play Nex Machina on the PC, do yourself a favour and play it the way it was meant to be enjoyed: with a controller.

Capcom have just released a brand new gameplay video for Monster Hunter: World. The video takes a deeper look at how one of the upcoming title’s quests unfolds as players set off on their journey to defeat the giant new monster, Anjanath, in the lush and leafy paradise of the Ancient Forest. Step into the gameplay adventure here now!

Monster Hunter: World sees players take on the role of a hunter that completes various quests to hunt and slay monsters within a lively living and breathing eco-system full of predators…and prey. In the video you can see some of the creatures you can expect to come across within the New World, the newly discovered continent where Monster Hunter: World is set, including the Great Jagras which has the ability to swallow its prey whole and one of the Monster Hunter series favourites, Rathalos.

Players are able to utilise survival tools such as the slinger and Scoutfly to aid them in their hunt. By using these skills to their advantage hunters can lure monsters into traps and even pit them against each other in an epic fierce battle. Can our hunter successfully survive the fight and slay the Anjanath? He’ll need to select his weapon choice carefully from 14 different weapon classes and think strategically about how to take the giant foe down. Don’t forget to pack the camouflaging ghillie suit!

Gundam Versus Game Modes and release date revealed!

GAME MODE INTRODUCTION RELEASE DATE: 29TH SEPTEMBER 2017

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment reveals today the game modes that will be part of GUNDAM VERSUS and the official Release Date on 29th September 2017 PlayStation®4 in Australia and New Zealand.

The new instalment for the series will provide both solo and multiplayer modes with tutorial and free mode that will help the player to master the art of fighting.

Solo play: enjoy and practice the battle

WWE 2K18 FEATURES REVEALED

It’s finally time for us to start sharing our plans for WWE 2K18 with everyone! Similar to recent years, we won’t be providing full details today, but we are ready to share some insight into several of the exciting new features and improvements we are making for WWE 2K18.

As our development progresses this summer and into the fall, there will be more to share as we approach the game’s release in October. In addition, our team is excited to announce the 2KDev Spotlight Series, starting next Thursday, July 13 on wwe.2k.com, that will provide ongoing information updates and a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making a WWE 2K game.

Be Like No One

The WWE 2K franchise has enabled users to “Be Like No One” through its amazing Creation Suite for a long time, and this year is no different. The Creation Suite gets even deeper with improvements to Create-a-Superstar, Create-an-Arena and Create-a-Video. The Highlight Replay System now enables users to save game replays to make into future videos and adds a free-roaming camera for further creative and editing control. In addition, we are also bringing creativity to matches with a new Create-a-Match feature. This addition lets players create a custom set of rules for a match, save them and use them in either Play Now or WWE Universe.

WWE 2K18 also delivers a new MyPLAYER experience that introduces fighting styles and a brand new upgrade and progression system. Players can choose from eight fighting styles to help define their MyPLAYER experience. Each fighting style comes with its strengths and weaknesses, so the choice of style matters. No one style can be a master of all! Are you going to be a High Flyer, a Brawler or maybe a Technician? The choice is yours.

With a compelling new MyPLAYER system, we also wanted something unique and different for your MyPLAYER to do in WWE 2K18. Thus, a brand new MyCAREER experience awaits, incorporating a new story and a free-roaming backstage area that allow your MyPLAYER to interact with other WWE Superstars and help direct the narrative. Did you take offense to someone? Are you going to go it alone?  Are you going to align with the General Managers or are you going to let your in-ring prowess speak for itself? The new MyPLAYER experience provides many choices in for how players experience their unfolding stories.

Finally, WWE 2K18 is delivering an all-new Road to Glory Mode that lets players compete against others, using their MyPLAYER characters, in a quest to qualify for WWE pay-per-view events. There is a lot more to share about the new Road to Glory Mode in the coming months, but we are really excited to see everyone bring their MyPLAYER creations to this new level of competition.

Realism

WWE 2K18 will be the most realistic WWE game to date in the franchise. This year, we developed an entirely new graphics engine that delivers spectacular new lighting, more realistic skin and new camera effects. The WWE Superstars, crowds and arenas have never looked better. Since words don’t do visuals justice, we are excited to show you how amazing WWE 2K18 looks in the near future.

Along with the great visuals, WWE 2K18 introduces a new commentary team. With the trio of Michael Cole, Byron Saxton and Corey Graves at the commentary table, a WWE 2K game has never sounded better. We also greatly improved crowd sounds, including the addition of authentic crowd chants, to bring the entire WWE experience to life. In short, WWE 2K18 has never been closer to what our fans see every week on WWE television and at live events.

Most Comprehensive WWE Game to Date

WWE 2K18 continues improving and refining the simulation gameplay experience that sits at the core of the franchise. For WWE 2K18, we are bringing new mayhem and carnage in the form of eight-person matches, including Ladder matches, the Royal Rumble, Eight-Person Tags and even a Battle Royal. Players can now experience the chaos of eight WWE Superstars all vying for the same goal!

Speaking of Royal Rumble matches, we also revamped these by implementing new elimination mechanics, a quick elimination system, new match-specific finishers and new elimination sequences. With eight WWE Superstars in the ring, combined with the new mechanics, the Royal Rumble is better than ever.

WWE 2K18 also sees the addition of a new carry system, which we’ll share more details on in the future, as well as thousands of new animations. These are just a few of the changes we made with the gameplay for WWE 2K18 as we develop the most complete WWE simulation experience.

WWE Universe Mode sees changes in WWE 2K18, including a new story system that provides more flexibility in how stories play out. The interactions between WWE Superstars build up to rivalries and determine what stories will unfold. The new story system also supports very diverse pay-per-view calendars, meaning it manages WWE’s current pay-per-view schedule alongside player-created custom pay-per-view calendars. In addition, there are new story cut scenes, new Power Rankings and even a new Superstar goal feature to be announced in the future.

For WWE 2K18, we are working hard to improve the online experience in several ways. For example, we are reworking the search system for Community Creations to ensure everyone is able to find the best amazing content created and made available by the community. Additional improvements will be announced later this year.

All of these feature additions and improvements are only made better by the largest roster in WWE gaming history. We are excited to share the roster for this year’s game soon, but for now, our recent announcement of WWE Hall of Famer and current Raw General Manager, Kurt Angle, as the game’s pre-order bonus is a sign of the good things to come with the roster.

July 7, 2017 – Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Absolution, the third DLC Map Pack for 2016’s No. 1 top-selling console video game in the United States (excluding hardware bundle sales), is available now on the PlayStation®Network for the PlayStation®4 interactive entertainment system. Published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, Absolution features four new, diverse multiplayer maps that are designed to showcase the diverse play styles experienced within the game. The DLC pack also includes “Attack of the Radioactive Thing!” with actress Cassandra Peterson starring as Elvira in a 1950s Creature Feature zombies experience.

“No matter your play style, whether you’re a sniper from long range or love close-quarters combat, our team has designed the new maps in Absolution to be fun for all players,” said Dave Stohl, Studio Head of Infinity Ward. “And with Attack of the Radioactive Thing!, the twisted zombies storyline heads into another crazy setting now in the 1950s, straight from the classic horror movies of the era. It’s a beachside town completely demolished by a new type of enemy we hope our fans will love, along with waves of the undead and all-new weapons and traps to engage with.”

Attack of the Radioactive Thing!, the next action-packed chapter of the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare zombies story, once again features the return of Willard Wyler, the merciless movie director villain portrayed with voice and likeness by Paul Reubens (Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, Gotham). Wyler has trapped the four protagonists inside an all-new horror film in the style of the classic, Creature Feature movies from the 1950s. Players will fight against a new array of zombie enemies across a ravaged beach town where a government science experiment has transformed the residents into flesh-devouring zombies and introduced a new biological menace into the city. Additionally, horror movie icon Elvira, played with voice and likeness by Cassandra Peterson (Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Elvira’s Movie Macabre), will help players survive and give them gameplay tips and side quests with her unique Elvira style. New weapons, traps and more, will augment the hallmark Call of Duty zombies action fans know and love, with Seth Green (Robot Chicken, Austin Powers) as “the Scientist;” Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors, Suicide Squad) as “the Rebel;” Jay Pharoah (White Famous, Saturday Night Live) as “the Soldier;” and Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live, Pizza Mind) as “the School Girl,” all making a return from the ongoing story in this all-new experience.

In addition to Attack of the Radioactive Thing!, Absolution will also include four new multiplayer maps:

  • Bermuda – A shantytown created around the remnants of a crashed ship, Bermuda allows players to duck, dive, and wall ride from the fish market to the lighthouse in this small to medium sized map that’s been water-wasted and sandblasted.
  • Permafrost – Set within the chill of a frozen city skyline, Permafrost lets players stick to the ground and pick their plan of attack in one of three main lanes. They will traverse the map, moving from street side to train station, and hobo village to wrecked theatre house in this small, tight-quarters map.
  • Fore – In Fore, the only thing miniature about this large map is the golf courses players will be fighting in. Fore features great visual variety as players swing around the sights and sounds of areas that brandish magical forests, giant creamsicles, and elevated castle walls.
  • Ember – Located near an old town castle, Ember is a remake of the Modern Warfare® 3 classic map Resistance, featuring old world aesthetics retrofitted with modern technology. The surroundings include lava, gallows and a torture room, where players will want to stick close to their teammates.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Absolution DLC Map Pack is available for a great value via the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Season Pass, which can be purchased on its own or obtained as part of the Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe editions of the game. Season Pass gives discounted access to all four Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare DLC Map Packs released during 2017 (discount based on a Season Pass suggested retail price of AUD$64.95/NZD$69.95, and four individual DLC Map Packs at a suggested retail price of AUD$19.95/NZD$22.95 each).
