Build, Automate, Optimize: Factory Automation Game Modulus Launches Updated Demo

Leamington Spa, UK/Leuven, Belgium – December 4, 2025: Kwalee has partnered with Belgian indie studio Happy Volcano to support the development of Modulus, the team’s upcoming factory automation game, through to its planned 1.0 launch in 2026. Alongside the partnership announcement, an expanded and updated playable demo is now available on Steam, giving players the chance to dive in today and begin building, automating, and optimizing elegant production lines.

The Modulus demo offers about two hours of content, but players can easily spend many more hours refining and optimizing their factory layouts. Factory floor size is the only limitation to creative freedom and expression in the demo. Players can experiment with a variety of operators, construct a variety of buildings with unique functions. A step-by-step tutorial is included for those new to factory automation games.

The current Modulus demo has been well received by players and holds a ‘Very Positive’ (95%) rating on Steam. Players have praised its pleasant visual style, strong mix of factory management and puzzles, and its relaxing music.

Modulus is coming to PC via Steam in 2026

About Modulus

Design the pieces, not just the puzzle

Modulus is a creative sandbox factory simulation where you don’t just solve problems, you design the components that make up the solution. Build and automate elegant production systems using modular engineering tools: cut, paint, stamp, and assemble 3D building blocks called modules. From logic-driven problem solving to free-form expression, Modulus blends base-building, resource management, and thoughtful strategy in a game that rewards both beauty and efficiency. There’s no single solution, only the system you create.

Find your flow

No enemies. No combat. No timers.

Modulus offers a relaxing, low-pressure take on factory automation, where experimentation and optimization thrive. Build at your own pace and enjoy the quiet satisfaction of systems that simply work.

Every module has a purpose

Modules aren’t just resources, they’re the building blocks of your factory. Each one you craft becomes a visible part of a structure rising in real time.

The more complex the goal, the more intricate your modules must become, rewarding strategic planning, creativity, and system optimization.

Endlessly modular, deeply yours

Whether you’re solving intricate logistics puzzles or designing the most aesthetically pleasing factory possible, Modulus is built for creative expression. No two factories will look the same,  your solutions, like your factory, are uniquely your own.

Start Simple, Grow Smart

Begin with basic resources and learn the core systems. As your production needs scale, unlock new mechanics, tools, and challenges that deepen your understanding of logic, optimization, and modular design mastery.

Pre-orders will kick off on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 22.

A free demo for MIO: Memories In Orbit is currently available on PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.

Video games as craft from a French studio

MIO: Memories In Orbit is developed by Douze Dixièmes, a small French studio previously known for their acclaimed debut, Shady Part of Me. True to their creative philosophy, the team has crafted MIO in a deeply artisanal way, building the entire experience atop a proprietary, in-house engine developed specifically for the project. This approach has allowed the studio to shape every aspect of the game’s mechanics, art direction and atmosphere with complete freedom.

Douze Dixièmes also maintains a seasonal (quarterly) blog where the team shares insights into studio life, their evolving creative process, and behind-the-scenes making-of content. Follow their journey here.

Cast light into an obscured past

Showcasing more of its unforgiving danger and atmospheric wonder, MIO: Memories In Orbit’s new trailer delves further into the game’s mesmerizing sci-fi world, which blends a mysterious narrative, challenging action gameplay, and a spellbinding art direction.

Come January 20, players will uncover it all as MIO, a nimble robot who awakens alone aboard the Vessel — a vast, drifting spaceship left in ruin. Once maintained by AI caretakers known as the Pearls, the Vessel is now overrun by wild vegetation and malfunctioning machines. With the ship facing imminent shutdown, MIO must explore its labyrinthine depths, recover its lost memories, and uncover the truth behind the collapse.

Start your journey now with the acclaimed demo

MIO: Memories In Orbit’s 2-3-hour-long demo is still live on Steam and the Microsoft Store. Experience the game’s beginning, with a secret area to discover and a major challenge to overcome.

MIO: Memories In Orbit launches on Jan. 20, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-orders are live today on Steam, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 — with a 10% discount* available on all platforms. Pre-orders on Nintendo Switch 2 will open on December 22.
