TOM CLANCY’S RAINBOW SIX® SIEGE REVEALS OPERATION PHANTOM SIGHT

TOM CLANCY’S RAINBOW SIX® SIEGE REVEALS OPERATION PHANTOM SIGHT

Rediscover the reworked Kafe Dostoyevsky map alongside two new eye-opening Operators in Year 4 Season 2

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — May 20th, 2019 — Today, Ubisoft announced the full details of the second season of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege Year 4 content. Operation Phantom Sight introduces an all-new Attacker and a Defender, Nøkk and Warden respectively, as well as a major map rework of Kafe Dostoyevsky, the high-class locale situated at the heart of Moscow. Furthermore, in Year 4 Season 2, Rainbow Six Siege will introduce new changes to the recently implemented feature, Reverse Friendly Fire, as well as updates to the Rainbow Six Siege storefront and the Ranked playlist.

In this new season, Nøkk and Warden will redefine how intel is gathered as the newest additions to the Rainbow Six Siege Operator line-up. Armed with her FMG-9 submachine gun and SIX12-SD shotgun, Nøkk uses her high-tech HEL Presence Reduction gadget to quietly navigate behind enemy lines, invisible to cameras and drones alike. In the meantime, Warden uses his Glance Smartglasses to enhance his vision, providing him with better visibility in smoke as well as immunity to flashes while remaining still. His M590A1 shotgun and MPX submachine gun makes him a powerful anchor and entry denier in defense.

In addition to these two new Rainbow recruits, players will be able to explore the map rework of Kafe Dostoyevsky, which incorporates significant changes to the current map in order to open up and diversify gameplay: the first floor has been redesigned, new Bomb sites appear on the second floor, alongside many other updates improving replayability and gameplay opportunities. Other features that will be introduced in the upcoming season include further updates to Reverse Friendly Fire based on data and community feedback, a reworked Ranked playlist and a new in-game storefront.

Sniper Elite V2 Remastered Review

Sniper Elite V2 Remastered

Developer: Rebellion
Publisher: Rebellion
Platforms: PlayStation 4Switch, Xbox OneWindows (Reviewed)
Release Date: 14 May 2019
Price: $59.99USD – Available Here $69.95AUD – Available Here

Overview

Sniper Elite franchise feels like it was made specifically for me. I instantly picked Zer0 in Borderlands 2 and if there is ever a skill for stealthy kills in any RPG, I’ll be sure to allocate my points there first. There is something super engaging in playing as an unseen predator, picking enemies off one by one while they’re at the end of their wits trying to find you. After the first game, the improved Sniper Elite 2, incredible Sniper Elite 3 and marvelous Sniper Elite 4, we are now moving forward to the….remaster of the second game? Hm sure, I’m a bit cautious (and interested) so let’s see what’s under the hood.

Story

Once again we step into the shoes of Karl Fairburne, an elite sniper thrown into the heart of war-torn Berlin. It’s almost the end of the war and Nazis are losing on all front. Your mission is to prevent the V2 rocket technology falling into the hands of Red Army, aid any scientist(s) willing to defect to the US and make it out of the crosshairs of two armies. This time, we have all the DLC included in the remastered version and the ability to play as other characters beside Karl in both campaign and multiplayer modes.

Gameplay

If you’ve played the original Sniper Elite 2, then there isn’t much to say or add here. Seriously. When I heard that they were remastering this game, my first thought would be that it will get a fresh coat of paint with the improved stealth, game mechanics and engine from Sniper Elite 3 and more. Sure, we can play as different characters now but for some lazy reason, you will still be shown as Karl in all the cutscenes. There is also a new photo mode to capture and edit your x-ray shots. But besides that, everything else is the same from the original. If anything, I did notice that the AI was a bit more forgiving (if not dumber) compared to the original. They rarely move towards my position and only peek out once in a while from the cover, inviting me to play whack-a-mole with their helmets. for what it’s worth, the gameplay is still as engaging as ever and sniping their brains and guts will never get old. Aside from your trusty sniper rifle, you can also carry a submachine gun of your choice and a pistol. I’ll always recommend the silenced one, because why carry all three loud weapons with you. Another fun way to neutralize enemies is with mine traps, placing dynamite, land mines and sniping off the hand grenades from their belt (a bit tricky to pull off but incredibly satisfying).

Visuals

Ah, here we are. The saving grace of this remaster. Or is it? To be fair, so changes have been made but it’s more of a game being injected with an incredible amount of botox rather than being improved. We can now play in higher resolutions compared to the original and the textures way sharper…..which also makes some parts of the game unnatural. The war-torn cities now look absurdly clean and washed and it’s n different with you and enemies. The uniforms are spotless, character models now resemble vax figures and I’m pretty sure Karl could now kill someone with his sharp and stiff hairdo. It’s been seven years since the release of the original game and some things that we could find acceptable are not anymore. Notably, the color palette in Sniper Elite V2. It didn’t receive any sort of visual remaster so you’ll be playing most of the levels in 50 Shades of Brown. I did notice some improved lighting, less obnoxious glare from the original and better shadows but that’s it. In general, the game does look better but that’s not much of a when almost everything is painted in monochromatic brown with some other color here and there.

Audio

I installed the original Sniper Elite V2 and after going back and forth, I can say that there is noticeable improvement in audio department. The echoing of sniper shots are better (especially in open areas), gun sounds are improved as well as ambiental noise. It’s kinda weird and sad that this part received way more attention than the visuals. Based on sound alone, you can pinpoint where the enemies are coming from towards you, which is something I couldn’t tell in the original. This angle of the game is actually the only one where the game doesn’t show its age and where the remastering makes some difference.

Overall

You know, giving a bad grade to a game is never easy. Every release had some effort and passion poured into it, it’s just that the sum of all isn’t enough for a passing grade. But you know what’s far worse? Giving a bad grade to a game that you love. I’m a big fan of Sniper Elite games, but this barely passes for a remaster. It’s a botched plastic surgery. If you never played any of the games from the franchise, this should be your entry. Now, is it worth spending more than 30 euros for some visual touch-ups that most developers would give as a free update? My answer is a firm no. Sniper Elite V2 Remastered tries to scrape the bottom of the barrel of what is considered as a remaster of a product. It’s sad because if this game was remastered in the engine of the games that came after, that alone would be enough to give it some new life. If I’m happy with this, then I will be happy with a different dev adding a couple of more trees or cars in their game and slapping a remaster on that. This is where I draw a line. Paraphrasing the words of a wise Gandalf: “This shall not pass!”

Winter Fury: Longest Road Rains Virtual Reality Bullets onto Steam Early Access May 30

Winter Fury: Longest Road Rains Virtual Reality Bullets onto Steam Early Access May 30

DALLAS — May 16, 2019 — Winter Fury: Longest Road, the VR tank action and first-person shooter from former Activision and THQ veteran developers at Spidermonk Entertainment and publisher 10th Reality, unloads magazines of ammo at Nazis on Steam Early Access on Vive and Oculus Rift May 30.

A Blitzkrieg, a horrifying parade of destructive machinery, approaches the Allied front. The Allies’ sole chance at surviving the devastating onslaught is a soldier with a classified, experimental M-4 Sherman tank. Turn the tide of war with a combination of steel resolve and good ol’ American ingenuity.

The M-4 can take a pounding, but packs a wallop. Bust bunkers with cannon shells or take out foot soldiers with a .50 caliber machine gun to take back the battlefield. Wield motion controllers either seated or standing and pilot the tank from a third-person perspective, or go on foot for first-person gun battles.

Hop out of the tank and fight for freedom with rifles, machine guns and handguns. Scope in with the sniper rifle and the UI shifts so the whole headset shows the sights, making for an intuitive aiming experience unlike any other. Mountable heavy machine guns, grenades and more unlockable weapons prove invaluable when fighting paratroopers to well-armed bosses.

Battle for survival against intimidating bosses like Tiger tanks, Steam Trains, and Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter aircraft. From close-quarter combat in concrete bunkers to sinking a destroyer with cannon fire, each mission offers awe-inspiring set pieces.

Winter Fury combines unparalleled VR tank-fighting action with advanced foot soldier warfare,” said Scott March, founder of Spidermonk Entertainment. “We wanted to bring an authentic World War 2 action game and virtual reality is the perfect platform.”

Winter Fury: Longest Road will be available in English on Steam Early Access for $19.99 May 30 and will be compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

METRO EXODUS EXPANSION PASS CONTENT REVEALED

METRO EXODUS EXPANSION PASS CONTENT REVEALED

Moscow – May 16, 2019 – Deep Silver and 4A Games today revealed the details of the downloadable content that will make up the Metro Exodus Expansion Pass.

There will be two major pieces of story-driven DLC for the game, following brand new stories from the world of Metro. Instead of Artyom, players will see through the eyes of a brand-new character and of one of the Spartan Rangers, the Aurora’s only American, Sam. Both of these will be available as part of the expansion pass and will also be available for purchase separately.

A quick word of warning: if you have not yet completed the Metro Exodus campaign, the following contains spoilers.

Coming in Summer 2019, the first story players will follow, The Two Colonels, is that of Colonel Khlebnikov, just below the surface, under the dead city of Novosibirsk, as he makes his way home to his son, Kirill, for New Year’s Eve.

But all is not well with the people here: the slime is further consuming the tunnels, mutant attacks appear to be on the rise and the precious ‘green stuff’ that protects the people from radiation poisoning is running low. In order to secure the survival of the people, those in charge may need to take drastic measures …

Following the journey and experiences of Khlebnikov during the last days of life in Novosibirsk, which Colonel Miller retraces a year later, players can expect the classic story-driven gameplay of the Metro series in this new linear chapter, complete with a brand new weapon, the deadly flame-thrower; claustrophobic environments; and the all-too-familiar hair-raising tension.

The second piece of DLC, Sam’s Story, coming to players in early 2020, is the brand new sandbox survival level based on Vladivostok. Sam, a U.S. marine at the Moscow embassy before the bombs were dropped, has long dreamed of returning to his homeland, and maybe finding his family alive. The prospect seemed impossible in the darkened tunnels of the Metro, but when the Spartans discovered that Moscow was not the only city left alive after the war, holding out hope didn’t feel so foolish anymore.

Sam makes his way away from the Aurora in search of a way back to the U.S., arriving at the remains of Vladivostok’s tsunami ravaged harbours, ruined industrial buildings, and crumbling residential districts. To complete his journey, Sam will discover that he needs every tactic he has learned so far to survive, as his surroundings prove to be far trickier than expected.

Players will forge Sam’s path through the sandbox survival landscape of Vladivostok, as they take a brand new journey across the wasteland of post-apocalyptic Russia.

The Expansion Pass content will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Pre-order now from:
