MinskWorks and Yogscast Games launch Landlord’s Super – Available Now for PC on Steam Early Access

The quintessential construction simulator arrives in Early Access. Take a loan, restore a property brick-by-brick, then celebrate with a beer in a fully simulated open world

Bristol, UK – 30 April 2020. MinskWorks and Yogscast Games today launched Landlord’s Super on Steam Early Access. Your quintessential construction simulator is here. Take a dodgy loan, restore a property, move in the locals, attend to their grievances, then celebrate with a pint in this fully simulated, open-world 1980’s Britain. Build stuff, get drunk, build stuff while getting drunk.

Landlord’s Super is a first-person construction simulation featuring some of the most ambitious construction gameplay ever seen. Mix cement, assemble scaffolding, order supplies and rebuild a home brick-by-brick and nail-by-nail. Take odd jobs and ransack abandoned homes or spend the day at the pub alongside a cast of local personalities and dodgy characters.

Explore the fictional county of West Berklands and plan your actions in a living world around the time of day, major events, seasonal weather and your own wellbeing. Work hard and rebuild the community’s hope or get drunk and cause mayhem at the local pub. Some days it’s better to drink the day away than climb a scaffold in the rain.

Landlord’s Super is available now on Steam Early Access for £15.49 ($19.99, €16.79). Landlord’s Super already features a dynamic open world, construction and crafting gameplay, Jobcentre, rag-and-bone man, seasons and dynamic weather, boozing and bodily functions, and a warm welcome at The Anchor pub. Content, bugs, features and optimization continue to be worked on.

Play Landlord’s Super today on Steam. Join MinskWorks on Twitter and Discord.

Streets of Rage 4 Review

Streets of Rage 4

Developer: DotEmu
Publisher: DotEmu
Platforms: PlayStation 4SwitchXbox OneWindows (Reviewed)
Release Date: 30 Apr 2020
Price: $24,99USD – Available Here

Overview

My first encounter with Streets of Rage was during the Sega Genesis era. Video games weren’t exactly cheap back then and on whatever title you got your hands on, you had to hope for the best (read: pray it wouldn’t be some garbage). The first entry in the series was also the first co-op game for me in general, and oh boy did it felt like a whole new world. That was almost 30 years ago and the series is still alive and kicking. But how good is it with its latest entry? Do we still need a small fortune of coins to play it and get to the final boss? Let’s find out.

Story

The story is there as a simple excuse to clean up the streets from the hooligan scum, rack up some fisticuffs combos, stab your enemies with knives, broken bottles, and hit them with lead pipes. There’s something about some crime syndicate ruling from the shadows of Wood Oak City and who is a better candidate to dismantle it than Axel or Blaze. Yes, certain veteran characters from the series are back, along with some newcomers. The big baddie of the series, Mr X, is out of the picture but there are rumors on the street about a new criminal enterprise led by Mr X’s own children: the Y Twins! While the premise doesn’t leave much to the imagination, in later portions of the game you’ll be surprised with a good number of twists and turns as you move forward with the story.

Gameplay

The gameplay loop is pretty straightforward. side scroll from left to right on the mean streets of Wood Oak City, dispatch a small army of hooligans, and face off a mini-boss at the end of each level. Beside your fists and kicks, you can perform grab attacks and special moves that will send a large number of surrounding enemies flying off in all directions. There are also occasional pickups in the form of health replenishment as well as plenty of melee weapons. There is some decent enemy variety and later on, you’ll have to learn their attack patterns if you want to make it to the end. The game does that thing where they just increase the number of them instead of making them more challenging or stronger. I could joke and say that it is trying to invoke the feeling of unfair difficulty in video games from the era coin-operated arcade cabinets, but it’s just bad game design at this point. With that said, it’s clear that the game is made with a slight focus for co-op game sessions since it flattens the difficulty curve quite a bit when you have someone watching your back.

Visuals

Now, this is a part of the game that took some time to get used to. Considering the previous games in the series (and their style), I expected something retro oriented with high detailed pixel art so I was kinda taken back with the new visual direction that they went with. It’s far from bad, just…..different. The faux comic book style didn’t sit well with me for the first level or tow, then it just sort of all clicked together. Coupled with smooth gameplay, polished animations, and detailed background art as you explore the city, it really felt like the new art style compliments the other segments of the game.

Audio

There are some games where I decide to have toned down expectations in advance and it’s mostly tied to the production value. Shallow, I know. If it’s some AAA release, I expect much more. Something from an indie corner will have me think “eh, whatever goes”. Streets of Rage 4 is the exception to that rule, especially when it comes to the soundtrack. It is exciting, diverse and almost every stage has a memorable and catchy theme. Never judge a book by its cover, folks!

Overall

How do they say it, “the kind is dead, long live the king”? In this case, it should be seen that the king has been in exile for a decade or two, and now it’s back and better than ever. To put it simply, Streets of Rage 4 is a great new and revamped entry in the series, attaining all of the fun gameplay that made it so acclaimed in the first place. Grab the game, grab a friend while you’re at it and you’ll be rewarded with one of the best beat ’em up releases this year.

Star Citizen — Alpha 3.9: Locked Up & Loaded Update Highlights:

●       Unified Friends List: Group play is getting a major upgrade. Moving forward, contacts and friends from Star Citizen Spectrum (CIG’s proprietary out-of-game communications platform) will be unified with in-game contacts. Connecting with fellow pilots and forming parties from either platform has never been easier!

●       Klescher Automated Prison: Actions have consequences. Players incapacitated by security forces or bounty hunters will now find themselves serving hard time in prison. Pay off your debt to society by doing manual labor, or make plans for a daring escape.

●       New Babbage Landing Zone: This brand-new landing zone and trading hub is now open for business! Located on microTech and home to the company’s flagship store, New Babbage features an extensive transit system with lines connecting all major hubs. ●       New Mission – The Price of Freedom: In an all-new mission, some unlucky outlaws have been captured and are catching a ride on a prison transport. Players have been hired to board the ship, fight their way past security, wake these unfortunate individuals from cryosleep, and if possible, eliminate the turncoat who got them captured in the first place.

●       New Ship – Esperia Prowler: The Prowler is a near-perfect recreation of the infamous dropship that battled UEE forces throughout the Tevarin Wars. Elegant, advanced, and effective, it embodies the unique Tevarin approach to warfare and organic vehicle design. The Prowler is the first Tevarin-derived ship ever offered on the Human market. Find out more about the Esperia Prowler here.

●       New Player Status System: Player immersion reaches new levels, as blizzards and snowstorms are now more than just a visual effect. “Weather locomotion” now provides wind force resistance to player characters and ships in the atmosphere. In addition to monitoring temperature, the new player status system also measures hunger and thirst. Eat and hydrate to stave off starvation and thirst while taking advantage of specially designed suits to maintain an ideal body temperature in harsh environments.

●       New Weapon Attachment UI Feature: Ground combat sees major improvements as players can now make adjustments to weapon attachments on the fly without having to navigate through inventory menu systems. Make quick changes to scopes and attachments on the go and stay in the action.

ScourgeBringer gets first major content update “The Living Walls”

The hit roguelite action game gets a new game world, fresh bosses, skills and more

Montpellier, France (April 29, 2020) – French developer Flying Oak Games, composer Joonas Turner (Nuclear Throne, Downwell) and publisher Dear Villagers are proud to announce that the fast-paced rogue-platformer ScourgeBringer is getting its first major content update today, titled “The Living Walls”.

The game is currently available on PC via Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Pass for PC and will see a full launch in 2020 for PC and Xbox.

The Living Walls update highlights:

  • A new realm, called “The Living Walls”
  • Four additional skills including the most savage counter attack yet – “Dragon Punch”
  • Five new blessings to power up your character
  • New lore elements: you will now find computers from the Old World throughout the game, revealing more about the story
  • A bestiary is now accessible, showing all the monsters you have fought
  • New enemies, including a boss fight
  • Six new achievements
  • General fixes and improvements

ScourgeBringer aims to channel the mystery and rawness of an early rogue-platformer, with fluid control, aerial combat, pixel graphics and a punchy soundtrack. The story follows hero Kyhra, who is sent away to uncover the secrets of an Eldritch monolith which is threatening to destroy her world. Armed with her trusty combat drone, she must shoot and slash her way through the infinite depths of an ever-changing dungeon, wherein gigantic bosses, ancient machines, strange ghosts and untold secrets from previous explorers await.

There is no backtracking, as the game’s structure follows a procedural combination of pre-built challenge rooms, not unlike the Binding of Isaac.

The game is in open development, with an in-game feedback system gathering feedback from players, and regular looks behind the curtain courtesy of regular development updates from Flying Oak Games, who you can follow on Twitter here.
